since 4:30 this morning. >> pete suratos just spoke with chp and looks like things are starting to clear up, pete? >> reporter: yes, things have cleared up. i sent out a tweet that mentioned all lanes have been reopened here on 101 south near grant avenue following that fatal pedestrian accident. since the scene has cleared behind me we'll show you video when this all took place. according to chp they say the accident happened roughly around 3:12 a.m. we're working to get more information on how that pedestrian got here in the first place. we know this area was shut down at least a couple hours while they dealt with the situation. chp did tell me it appears to be a male killed. that's pretty much all the information they could give me at this time. lanes have been open on 101 south so it is no longer an

land. the plan calls for about 8 million square feet of office space. to put it in perspective that is more than double the size of mountain view. a lot of concern over traffic and housing and affordability. the city will not subsidize google's development. taxpayers won't foot the bill. and when the process begins, it is not to begin before the holidays this year. when we find out what the ccale item is we'll let you know so you can have your say. >> a lot of things to talk about. new this morning in the last 30 minutes we've confirmed with the santa clara county sheriff's office a man did drown in morgan hill. deputies are also telling us the man's body has been found as well.

the man drowned between highway 101 and old monterey road. that portion of the creek has very strong current. people are recovering after a car crash in brentwood. chp says it was due to a head-on collision between a driver and a stolen car going the wrong way and a van with seven people inside of it including three kids. that crash happened westbound highway 4. helicopters had to come in to support and transport some of the victims. the man suspected of driving the hohn da accord was treated for minor injuries. two people in the van remained in the hospital this morning. san jose police are looking for a man who shot a woman in front of an apartment complex. it happened about midnight saturday near winchester boulevard. >> we heard around six gunshots.

we saw the cops and streets were closed. the victim was of treated for nonlife threatening injuries from the hospital. >> it's taken a while by happening today long-awaited repairs are set to begin any moment for a sinkhole that has caused traffic headaches for a year and a half. a live look at the detours. that is where heavy storms ca e caused a sinkhole to form. repairs costs kept ballooning. repairs are expect ed to take more than two months to finish. the latest bay area heat advisory is over for now. fire danger will likely remain elevated. a busy night in eastern contra costa county. firefighters worked to save homes. firefighters established a line to protect homes despite being

stretched very thin. >> we he did have some homes threatened on the west side of the fire. some of the houses are in the framing phase. we sent one of our units there first to protect the structures to make sure we didn't burn the new houses down. >> firefighters earlier in the day had to put out a fire in antioch that started as a car fire along highway 4. that fire briefly threatened about 100 homes east of hillcrest n. all about 20 acres burned. all those homes were saved. our temperatures will be very hot as we start out right now at 6:06. 63 degrees in the peninsula. for the tri-valley wake up to 66 degrees. a mild start. beautiful start to this monday morning. high temperatures today will reach into the mid-90s for livermore. upper 90s for concord and morgan

live this morning. good morning, landon. >> reporter: good monday morning. the markets will try to start off on a high note. a flat open on wall street as earnings season gets under way. netflix out with its quarterly report card after the closing bell today. goldman sachs, microsoft and ge among the companies reporting late they are week. u.s. markets finishing higher with the dow and the dabbing closing at record highs led by technology stocks and consumer staples, 84 points to 21,637. the nasdaq up 38 to 6312. the force is with disney unveiling plans to build an immersive star wars themed resort at walt disneyworld. parks and resorts chairman says the hotel would be their most experienced concept ever and would combine a luxury resort with emergent and authentic environment. each would wear a themed costume and be part of an individual

and that will contribute to higher temperatures over the south bay, all clear as we start out with high temperatures today heading up to 89 degrees there. 97 in gilroy. let's go over to the east bay where we'll top out at 96 degrees in danville and fremont. 89 degrees and 79 degrees today in san mateo. in san francisco we were hitting the mid-80s yesterday. how about 72 degrees. you'll be able to leave the air conditioning off and the north bay will be up to 94 degrees in s santa rosa. napa today, 96 degrees. we talked about getting out there early so make sure tee time is early, too, if you're going to be in the tri-valley. already at 10:00 we're at 79 degrees and heading into the low 90s by later today and one place where it will be nice and cool all day long will be the peninsula, hiking trails there, we'll see mostly clear skies. a clear sun rise at 51 degrees. mid-50s late morning and then

eventually making it into the low 60s today and i wanted to give you an update on what's happening in the pacific. hurricane fernando was a category 4. now it's a 3. this is expected to continue to weaken but one thing we'll be watching as we go to the end of the week will be this heading right over hawaii but it is expected once again to continue to weaken so something i'll be watching for you. our temperatures will stay in the 60s in san francisco as we bring you back home going throughout the week. the return of some fog and all clear skies inland from 96 degrees today to the upper 80s. i think we'll take that the rest of the week. and mike says your commute is starting out smooth. >> that's right. smoothing out a lot over here. all the jam in oakland. no problems on the peninsula or the south bay as far as traffic flow goes. i'll talk about the castro v valley this in just a second. i wanted to show you north bay. the issue was a stalled vehicle southbound. 101 coming down should be out of lanes and minor slowing here on the upper east shore freeway

firefighters flagged fire dangers. "in the bay's" thom jensen is live where the mayor pledged this had spring to improve the fire inspection practices. good morning, thom. >> reporter: laura and sam, good morning. this is very remarkable this bay area news group investigation of the nearly 900 properties that they looked at that were flagged for inspection since 2011 nearly 80% of those were never inspected. december's deadly ghostship fire, of course, brought attention to this problem after 36 people were killed. they exposed the problem of lack of fire inspections within the city. in the aftermath the mayor agreed to double the number of fire inspectors here from 6 to 12 to make sure all of the properties are up to code. the bay area news group discovered some commercial buildings across the city have never been inspected.

the city has no way of knowing if flaws have been fixed and have no power to make the owners pay for repairs. fire officials blame the faulty software program here at the city that is supposed to flag those properties to make sure that they are being looked at and the inspections are taken care of and the repairs are put in place. they say there there is a problem with that software package, something i'm sure they're going to hear a lot of questions about at city hall today and in the coming months. we're live in oakland, thom jensen, "today in the bay." >> and one we'll continue to follow. 6:33. a memorial service will be held this morning for the university of san francisco professor who died in a crash last week. the pilot of the small plane that crashed. also onboard, his two children and their nanny. all three survived that crash. goldman's memorial is this morning at 10:00 on hay street in san francisco. some scary moments in the

water to tell you about near the dumbarton bridge where two men and a boy had to be rescued after their boat capsized. a kayaker there called for help and the coast guard and menlo park firefighters spotted the three hanging on to the side of the capsized boat. all three were airlifted to safety. two of those victims were treated for mild hypothermia. 6:34. work on an important stretch of wroad in the east bay. the rural two-lane road connects manning road north of livermore with marsh creek road east of clayton. the damaged road will be closed to cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists through mid-october. local residents will have an alternate access to that area. the latest from washington and the president and his personal lawyer continues to down play the meeting between donald trump jr. and russian influence peddlers last june.

time could be crucial for republicans trying to garner enough support for their plan here. good morning, chris. >> reporter: good morning, laura. the senate majority leader had hoped to have a vote on the gop's latest iteration of their plan to repeal and replace ob a obamacare this week but now with a key senator sidelined after surgery that's not going to happen and now many republicans are wondering exactly whether this delay will help or hurt. president trump back in washington facing another setback on his campaign promise to repeal and replace obamacare. majority leader mitch mcconnell postponinging a vote on the latest obamacare replacement bill after arizona senator john mccain had unscheduled surgery over the weekend. republicans need every vote they he can get so mcconnell will wait until mccain returns to washington. >> yes, i believe as soon as we have a full contingent of senators that we'll have that

all lanes open on highway 101 in south san francisco after a d d deadly early morning crash involving a pedestrian. a man was struck about 3:00 this morning. so far deputies are not releasing any information about what exactly happened or the vehicle and the driver. >> quick action by police and muni is being credited to nab a woman accused of kidnapping an infant. police say a woman took a 6-month-old infant from her father's car in the city's sunnyvale district and proceeded to board a bus. police issued alerts and another muni driver noticed the woman and baby boarding the bus. he immediately called police who moved in and last week three family members were struck by a

car walking the fruitvale cross walk. video is so graphic we stopped it before the moment of impact. including installing flashing crossing lights. on the central kroes firefighters continue to battle the so-called whittier fire as there is a local state of emergency as crews there continue to try and contain the flames. it has been a struggle. firefighters are desperately trying to slow the spread of fire that so far has burned through 18,000 acres of land and is still only 49% contained. just a wall of orange in the sky there. that fire is burning south of highway 14 in the san inez mountains. this start add week ago. 16 homes so far have burned. 30 other structures have as well. now to developing news from central arizona where the search continues for a father who was

swept away by a flash flood yesterday. about 90 miles from phoenix, he was with a large group of family members at a river when floodwaters came rushing through. nine people died including six children, one was just two years old. devastating loss for a family. here is the missing man's sister. >> he's my brother. he has to be found. they can't stop looking until he's found. >> normally it's just a trickle of a creek but during the monsoon season it can go from a foot deep to ten feet deep in a matter of minutes. >> that was a local sheriff's deputy. heavy rains caused the flash flooding and recent wildfires have left the landscape vulnerable. 6:48. switching gears right now. we have a food recall to warn you about this morning. the maker of hot dogs is recalling 7 million pounds after some customers found bone and cartilage in their meat.

welcome back to you. 6:56 right now. before you head out the door the top stories we're covering. we start out with breaking news. >> that amber alert issued for monterey county we heard about this about 6:15 this morning. police say that 1-year-old emiliano salinas. you see all the information on your screen right there. the police report indicates this happened on 236 main street in soledad where the suspect was last seen driving a 1992 white honda accord with a california license plate. the child was last seen in the

car seat in the rear of the car. google 's proposed massive development in san jose is creating some concerns. the city council is willing with how to welcome google and the economic growth without pushing out companies and people who live and work there. traffic also a big concern. google hopes to build a complex of office and retail space. the development is in the planning stages. a live look right now are from oakland this morning where a stunning new report is putting fire safety in the spotlight for that city. according to a bay area news group report inspectors often never follow up on potential commercial fire dangers. that report says that since 2011 firefighters referred 879 properties for follow-up inspections due to fire code violations but 79% of the time those inspections never occurred. fire officials blamed faulty database software for inspections falling through the cracks.

6:57. we are confirming with the santa clara county sheriff's office a man did drown in morgan hill. we're learning the man's body has been found as well. he drowned in the portion of the creek behind parkway lakes, morgan hill rv park between 101 and old monterey road. that portion of the creek has a sharp current. this morning san jose police looking for a man who shot a woman in front of an apartment complex is this weekend. it happened near winchester boulevard. the victim was treated for nonlife threatening injuries at the hospital. happening today long-awaited repairs are set to start anytime now for a sinkhole that has caused traffic headaches for about a year and a half. these are live imannals you'ges looking at just off mirago road where heavy storms in march of 2016 caused a 130-foot sinkhole to form. cost to repair the problems kept
