today in the bay continues right now. we say continues because we've been on the air since 4:30. look how early you can join us. good morning. thanks for joining us right now i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm sam brock. i appreciate that early because we do get up at 3:30 in the morning. we've been on air for 90 minutes we've probably had four, five cups of coffee each the adrenalin is starting to kick in. >> i would think so. at least with the nice weather it's not too cool or hot outside when we come in because when we come in it's a whole different weather pattern out side. but right now it's cool and comfortable but we're starting to see some fog roll in, clouds roll in along the coast and it's going to get cloudy out there. so farnts you're getting your kids ready for school today a nice cool start, and by recess time it will be warming up with plenty of sunshine and by 1:00 expect fast warming with temperatures in the 60s and 70s along the coast and then of course 80s and 90s for the inland spots. so i would say maybe take them with a nice light sweater that

they can shed throughout the day because it's going to heat up by the time you pick them frup school. it's probably going to hit upper 80s in some inland spots and going to get hotter this weekend. so friday off to a good start sa far. mike, how are the roads? we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaz are where the big rig has just about cleared right behind where my name was for the last couple of minutes. we had lane 5 right here that was blocked by a semitruck carrying a bunch of pallets they had to back it uppand then clear through the toll plaza. it looked like everything just cleared in the last few seconds but the metering lights are on. now to the san jose camera, the backup starting to recover here. show you the map, the krark at oakland road was the issue. we had some recover rye here but it starts to slow just north of capital expressway that's the slow section for the silicon valley and that's the slow section as you look at the map for the bay, guys. back to you. at 6:01, back to breaking news. we've been following all morning, since we gacame on the

morning due to the san francisco marathon and the reasoning is that they say it all comes down to safety. now they cited stories of folks driving into pedestrians around the world so they're saying that this is all about safety. now here are the details for folks planning to drive across the golden gate bridge this sunday morning. now they're going to close down the northbound lanes from 6:00 a.m. -- all right well unfortunately we lost pete's information there or i should say his audio, but there you see the information on the screen. the northbound lanes of the golden gate bridge will close for the marathon runners, expect it from 60 lock to 9:00 a.m. just skou plan as well. 4,500 zriefrz use that bridge so certainly something to get used to and make sure your friends and neighbors know as well. sam. all right. by the way, unrg the san francisco marathon, more power to you if you're involved in that. you're right. 6:03, developing news out of mariposa county as that destructive wildfire is continuing to grow right now. this is right near yosemite national forest. here's the latest information

that we have so far 50 homes have been burned and destroyed. 49 other structures as well destroyed. the meantime, 1500 are in danger. the detwiler fire is now burning about half a mile away from the town of mariposa which was evac waited. more than 70,000 acres burned and we should say that figure, the last update is from 7:30 last night. so we're waiting and calling cal fire and waiting for more information this morning. we did look at these numbers more closely and found that's more than twice the size of san francisco. that's the footprint of the detwiler fire. right now it's only 10% contained. this is kpaez what's going on through youtd the entire state of california because the detwiler fire not the only thing that fire crews battling right now. this is the incident map put together by cal fire showing the number of active wildfires right now at this moment. the number of fires right now statewide absolutely astounding. the is sacramenty cal fire says that more than 3,000 fires have been report the just this year and nearly 200,000 acres have

already burned. of course we are not even halfway through the summer fire season just yet. laura. big concern there, sam. 6:04 right now. happening today the second hearing in the kate styly murder case. juan francisco lopez has been charged with shooting and killing styly on pier 14 in san francisco. he has pled not guilty. both sides were in the san francisco courtroom last friday but lawyers said they were not ready to proceed. but the judge said the case could be sent to trial today. new this morning, someone spray painted racial slurs at a north bay stooi high school. it happened in mill valley on wednesday. they say the suspect spray painted the name of a well known local african american adult along with proflaen fan knitty and racial slurs on a school wall. the certainly continues for a suspect. the search for tan arson suspect in the east bay also ongoing this morning. take a look at this video, it comes from tremont. police think that the car here that you see may be connected to

an arson. police say somebody over the weekend burned an american flag that had been hanging in front of the house near mission boulevard and pickering avenue. after reviewing some surveillance video from that neighborhood, investigators identified this car was a, quote where are vehicle of interest. it's a knewer model honda civic, possibly silver with dark-tinted rear windows. new this morning, president trump's legal team looking at potential conflicts of interest within special counsel robert mueller's investigative team. and potential pard donz for relatives and the white house staff. mueller is tasked with determining if the president's campaign coordinated with russia during the last election. today in the bay sara dulles live in washington, d.c. this morning. good morning, sara. >> good morning, laura. these new revelations follow a stunning interview in the "new york times" in which the president warned mueller not to look into his personal finances.

26 aggravated assaults as of june in emeryville. that's up by nine assaults compared to the same time period last year. uc berkeley engineering professors blame state water officials and federal regulators for the failure of the oroville dam spillway back in february. a report says the deterioration of the spillway could have been prevented if proper procedures had been followed over the past few decades. a department of water resources says it welcomes additional analysis and studies and will ensure this report is shared with their forensic team. good morning, it is 6:09 and we're starting to sees hazy skies in san francisco as we begin to see some of that fog. we can also see those temps remain on the cooler side along the coast. 56 degrees right now. and then we'll start seeing those temperatures increase by about 8:00 a.m., we'll start climbing in the 60s, mid-60s by the 10:00 hour and then slowly climbing into the upper 60s by about 2012:00, 1:00 kpebting to hit a high in the upper 60s for

the weather will remain very nice and the temps will be climbing into the upper 80s and 90s for some inland spots. the coast will remain in the 60s. we'll talk about a very nice warm-up on the way this weekend. coming up in just a few minutes. and our live look shows you the continued recovery for northbound 101. it's friday lighter traffic recovery is possible but you still have the slowing through the south bay. i'll show you one way to avoid this. thank you very much it's quickly approaching 6:15 the follow up now the three chp officers involved in the deadly shooting on highway 101 in san mateo back in april have been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. police say a man pointed a gun at a driver and then took a car. which officers arrived on the scene, the suspect pointed his gun directly at them. fearing for their safety, the three chp officers fired their weapons killing the man. the district attorney says the lethal use of force was justifiable. we have some developing news overseas this morning. look at this video from inside

of a cafe. it shows people reacting as an earthquake struck. we have learned at least two people have died after a powerful earthquake struck off the turkish coast. this video shows the moment actually that the 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit. see folks jumping up there, the entire room starting to shake. a security camera captured the earthquake sending people secure rig outside. in nearby greece two people were also killed there and dozens of others injured. the island of kos was nearest the epicenter and appears to be the worst hit. >> the bridge in big sir is coming along. myrrh cuery news reports in the next week or two the steel work that will support the bridge will be put in place. the bridge is on highway 101 about 30 miles south of monterey. it was badly damaged in the winter storms. it made national headlines after a wreck willing ball sfald to bring that bridge down so construction could start. let's get to some business and tech headlines this morning, wall street looking to end the

down a woman who allegedly stabbed this man at least 13 times overnight. now the stabbing happened just about 3:00 this morning. the victim is now at the hospital taking een there by ambulance. he is expected to survive. now police brought in a k-9 to search for clues and they also impounded a small high yun day as part of the investigation but they say that the woman who stabbed the man allegedly is on the run pirt asked san jose police if this creates a public danger that this woman is at large and the officer here said that it appears at this point that the suspect and the victim did know each other. now, a sort told met identity of the victim but we're not going to release that until we can confirm it with police. i have passed on to mike that there is no traffic impact here in the neighborhood because of the investigation has moved along. in san jose, kris sanchez today in the zbla was that at red bird thank you very much, kris. happening today caltrain is

taking a major step forward making your commute a little easier down the road anyway. in just a few hours the transit agency is finally set to break ground on its lec tra if i occasion project. >> we're live at the caltrain station to tell you how this will impact your commute. good morning, bob. >> >> reporter: good morning. you're going to have governor jerry brown, nancy pelosi, sf mayor ed lee and other government leaders helping caltrain to break ground on this nearly $2 billion lec tra if i occasion project. this will elect tra phi the caltrain quarter up and down the peninsula from the fourth and king station in san francisco all the way down south to the tammy an station in san jose. right now it runs diesel local motives that are over 30 years old. accordsing to the agency need replacing. anyone who's done this commute before knows they are packed, many times standing room only. 65,000 people ride caltrain daily. that's more than double the number since 2005. now with the new electric

and since then, we've learned the victim's name, he's 29-year-old daniel delltor row. police say someone shot and killed him on willow avenue near cherry land park he's was pushing his baby in the stroller. the baby was not hurt. his wife tells us her husband was trying to leave a gang. >> all he wanted to do was provide for his family. we had a big plans to get out of this stupid bay area and now it's not going to happen. >> the victim's wife says she does not know who would want to kill her husband. we have more of that emotional interview and the background of the man who died right now on nbcbayarea.com. new this morning san francisco police investigate a deadly stabbing. this happened about 7:00 in the evening last night between oak and page streets. police say the man who was stabbed did die at the scene and right now we don't have any word on arrests. in light of this latest stabbing we did look back at the homicide

rate in san francisco for the last several years. as i cording to a report from twist 2015, there have been 25 to 45 homicides in the city since 2010. o.j. simpson could leave prison as early as october 1st. simpson will have to spend about five years living under the terms of his release. he will not be allowed to drink alcohol and he cannot use drugs. obviously he cannot commit another crime. today on "the today show" simpson's best friends sies the former football star will have no trouble staying out of trouble. >> does anybody worry about o.j. that he could end up back behind bars, you know, he's reenters society? >> no. o.j. -- o.j. does nothing wrong. >> if simpson violates parole, he'll have to go back to prison in nevada no matter where he lives. simpson says he wants to move back to florida. the state of florida has to

one direction and it's entirely for the runners. that action was taken after recent terror attacks in europe where vehicles were used as weapons. southbound lanes will remain open as well as the sidewalks. 6:46. san jose's state weather research lab is helping in the firefighter efforts in mariposa county. they're collecting data and feeding it to firefighters in realtime. the group says wildfires can crete e create their own weather patterns. in one case they saw flames and smoke that started swirling like a tornado. >> when columns rotate it becomes a dangerous situation for firefighters. one thing with the dopplar radar that we have we can scan across the fire and detect that circulation before it's visible. >> they say the tool they use is the only one of its time in the county and it collects data to help fight future fire. about half of the states firefighters have now been called in to help bat this will fire. hundreds are from the bay area. the san francisco fire department for example has more than 2 dozen firefighters battling that wildfire but for many departments it's a delicate

balancing act. while they want to do all they can for mariposa county they don't want to leave their home bases uncovered. a father shot and killed and his two young children forced to see this has it happened in lake county. this morning detectives right now asking anybody with information to come forward. now we do have surveillance images of two of the suspects in this murder who are on the run. take a look at these photos. investigators say that they shot and killed 34-year-old david shallot on wednesday during a robbery at his house on state street in kelseyville. that's near clear lake. all they took in the end was a small amount of marijuana. his children, ages 8 and 10, saw the entire thing. right now in concord police are looking for help trying to find a man accused in the beating of a convenience store clerk there. police posting an image of that suspect. investigators say back in april that man tried to use a stolen credit card to buy some cigarettes and clothing from a store on clayton road. it was declined so they say the man then tried to steal the items and proceeded to make the

clerk's nose and leg. new this morning state health experts say they have new idea of what's behind a big jump in kafsz valley fever. last year about 5,300 cases were reported, the highest number since 2011. if you're not familiar, valley fever leads to flu-like symptoms. infections happen when people breathe in fungus spores and dust. health officials say people should try to avoid breathing in dusty air. makes it tough for people in the central valley. 20 sea lions are recovering after being rescued. we talk with the mammal center. they say it has made the rescues over the past three days. the latest happened yesterday afternoon just north of santa barbara. they say they think the sea lyons are sick from eightying toxic algae. 6:48 right now. a may oral candidate in florida is getting attention after his racist rant at a debate went viral. on tuesday paul conjammy that's the name of the candidate who's running for st. petersburg mayor

the first electric trains could be run big the year 2020. 6:57 the destructive wildfire burning near yosemite continues to grow by the hour. it's burning about a half a mile from the town of mariposa. now in just the last 20 minutes cal fire announced the fire is 15% contained. it has grown to over 74,000 acres. cal fire still says 50 homes and 49 other structures have been destroyed and 1500 other structures are still in danger. hapgs today, the second hearing in the kate styly murder case. juan francisco lopez have been charged with killing styly on pier 14 in san francisco and he has pled not guilty. both sides were in a san francisco courtroom last friday but attorneys said that they were not ready to proceed. but the judge said the case could be sent to trial today. coming up next "the today show" what's ahead for o.j. simpson after one of the country's most infamous inmates is granted parole.
