>> andrea thanks so much. >> let's talk to our legal consult. i know you were watching that parole hearing. what did you make of it? it seemed like they knew what they were going to do no matter what they said. >> the parole board has specific guidelines. o.j. checked all the boxes. at the very beginning when we heard the risk factors were low the mitigating factors were high the aggravating factors -- really all they said because the victims feared for their safety they had one of the victims in the courtroom to say it's all cool with me. you knew they were going to release him. i got to tell you o.j. simpson did himself no favors yesterday. what he said to the parole board my jaw was hanging down. >> he looked like a guy who knew what the board was going to do.

in southern california. a red car collided with another vehicle, lost control and ended up crashing into a starbucks. seven people, suffered nonlife threatening injuries. we begin this half hour, turning back to o.j. simpson. and the question, what is next for him after being granted parole? it looks like he will be heading to florida when he is released. gabe gutierrez has that from naples. >> reporter: it's unclear where o.j. simpson will settle down. but a close friend says it's possible and there's a chance he could end up in this community. tom scotto says that simpson plans to check in with a parole officer in miami. and the state of florida must decide if simpson is eligible to serve out his parole here. this morning, questions are swirling about where o.j. simpson will spend his new life outside prison. but it appears he's heading back to the sunshine state. >> we've been made aware that you're requesting to live in

florida. >> reporter: his daughter, sydney, and son, justice, a real estate agent, live in st st. petersburg, near tampa. and he has a history in south florida. in 2000, he moved to this home in the miami area. but it wasn't long before he was back in the media spotlight. in 2001, he was acquitted in a road rage case. in 2002, he was ticketed for speeding on his boat. and in 2005, a judge ordered him to pay a fine for stealing satellite tv signals. the house he once lived in, foreclosed. but his friend, tom scotto, who lives in this gated community in naples, says there's a chance simpson could stay with him. >> we're going to go somewhere, i can't really share. i'm sorry i can't share it. >> reporter: scotto's neighbors have mixed reaction that simpson

>> i hear stage iv brain cancer and i don't think anything is good with that. >> reporter: months after her mom's surgery, maria went to the doctor herself, complaining of dizzines dizziness, slurred speech and headaches. >> did you know there was something there that was not supposed to be? >> when i said those things out loud to him, the symptoms mirrors what my mom had. and i realized it in that moment. >> the lightbulb. after the mri, her doctors called with the results. what did he say? >> he said, i'm so sorry i have to tell you this. he said, you have a brain tumor. you need to schedule an appointment with a neurosurgeon right away. i said, okay. i started chuckling. >> laughing. >> at that point, it's like, this is a joke. how does this happen? >> reporter: maria had her own

seven-hour surgery to remove the tumor, which, luckily, was not cancerous. she's on her way to recovery. but her mom has a tough road ahead. >> my mom, i justice u. hope th can make her one of the long-term survivors. 'cause i'm worried about her. nobody ever wants to lose their mom. >> maria's mom has the same kind of brain cancer that senator john mccain has. it is particularly aggressive. but her mom says she's not worried about herself. only her daughter, maria. >> both of those women, right by each other's sides as they go through it. is there a correction, though? maria has something else. is there a connection? >> the doctor said no. and maria has a 6% chance of the tumor recuring since it's been

welcome back. this morning on "today food," summer grilling, skewers. here with kebab recipes and hacks is michael. he opened up monkey tail in hollywood, florida. good to see you. >> thanks. good to see you. let's talk about our ingredients first. >> i want to show you simple, easy things to do at home. it's what we do in the run a. but the novice at home, really good for parties, hors d'oeuvres and appetizers. it's skewers. we're going to start out with a chicken one. take chicken wings. i like to put it in a brian. a cup of water. >> how far ahead are you going this, michael? >> this is perfect to do 2 hours or 24 hours.

and then, you put the salt in. this will give you flexibility when you cook it. >> that's the thing about the skewers, you think they're easy. but often, the meet is overcooked. >> this is a great trick. things that don't have as much fat, put it in the brian. you want to do turkey as another thing. put it in there. and when you cook it, it's nice and easy. we're going to take some wings and we're going to secure them up. put it right through there. >> you soak the skewers. that's important, why? >> every time you put it on the grill, it burns. every time you burn it. it's not fun. if you soak it in water, it keeps it from burning. we use bamboo skewers.

one of the things you want to make sure you're not secukeweri all the way out. scallops, you're going to take it, cut it in half. take two skewers. if you don't have scallops, you can use shrimp or squid. if you make them flat. >> how does this taste? >> the chicken wings are awesome. >> you do it the long way. >> another item at home, a steak. a fillet here. you want to cut it into cubes. if you just caught them in cubes. >> then, do you season this up, as well?

>> yeah. something like this, you need one skewer. all you do is put some salt on there, pepper on there. and we have it here. >> keep it simple, salt and pepper. >> exactly. it gets to the grill. and i put aluminum foil on the grill. it prevents everything from sticking, getting too hot and creating a mess. >> you don't get the flare-up on the flame, right? >> yes. >> put the kebabs on there. you can put the fish on the grill, on the aluminum foil which i like. and the meat. the aluminum foil is going the prevent this from burning. >> you like the chicken on the foil, too? >> yes. >> i like to show you what y yakaturi sauce. >> which one do we like best? >> i like the scallops. >> you're going to put a little

household name and one day multiple white house officials now confirm to nbc news that spicer resigned from that position. anthony scaramucci was offered a position and accepted a position someone who worked very closely with spicer. spicer has expressed great reservations about the hiring of scaramucci and suggesting he wasn't prepared for a communication's job that that's not where his past experience was. as we speak right now, the press has actually been ushered out of the upper area outside spicer's office. i saw inside the room, there was a big all-staff meeting taking place as we speak right now, including deputy press secretary inside, sarah huckabee sanders and the chief of staff reince priebus. what's striking here is that scaramucci, the new communication's director, has long clashed with reince priebus, the chief of staff. this is the latest in what is a

series of chaotic episodes. this really the first major shakeup here, craig, within the white house now affecting the press secretary who is expected to depart almost effectively immediately. >> peter, at this point any word on who becomes the new full-time press secretary there? >> it's a good question and, as you'll know, we haven't had a on-camera white house press briefing in a matter of weeks. this white house communication strategy has been different than the communication strategies of white houses before it right now. we've seen sarah huckabee sanders take the podium in recent days, but most of those briefings take place now off camera. who becomes the press secretary, that's the question we don't have the answer to right now. the president has been considering, as he's expressed frustration and considering individuals from the conservative commentators in the past. but at this point, craig, we don't know who will take that role. >> our man at the white house, peter alaxeneder.

over 74,000 acres and is up to 15% containment. cal fire still says that 50 homes and 49 other structures have been destroyed and 1500 structures are in danger. all of this is burning a half mile away from maraposa which has been evacuated. and working to figure out what started a house fire in berkeley. it happened about 4:30 this morning. our viewer suzette sending us the video of it. firefighters were forced to call in for additional help. the viewer that shared the video is also among those that called 911. coming up after the break, a look at your forecast going into the weekend and hopefully friday light traffic. traffic
