crucial votes for senate republicans this year as they look to finally repeal obamacare and/or bring their own health care bill to the floor. it's still not exactly clear what republicans will be voting on. given the secretive nature behind mitch mcconnell's plan. >> still the president put pressure on members of his own party. >> for the last seven years, republicans have been united in standing up for obamacare's victims. remember, repeal and replace, repeal and replace. they kept saying it over and over again. but so far senate republicans have not done their job in ending the obamacare nightmare. they now have a chance however to hopefully -- hopefully -- fix what has been so badly broken for such a long time. >> nbc's chief white house correspondent hallie jackson has a preview. good morning, hallie. >> reporter: good morning to you. all the action is happening just down pennsylvania avenue from where we are because as you know republican leadership is promising this vote to try to start debate on a health care bill, but at this point it's not clear what that bill look like or whether there is enough support. that is where these battle lines are getting drawn right now. you have some republican senators i'm thinking rand paul who says he's a no unless it repeals it now and delays a replacement plan. but a lot of other senators feel differently.

and that is going to be the challenge for mitch mcconnell today. it's a real test of his leadership to see whether he moves forward. president trump is using the power of his bully pulpit to issue this warning shot even to his own party trying to get republicans to get on board here. he wants repeal and replace and he wants to get it done. remember, this is a president who six months into his administration is really looking for some kind of legislative win over on capitol hill. he wants health care to be that victory. >> so much at stake today, hallie. thank you. and it looks as though the president is ratcheted the president on members of his own cabinet, as well. listen to this seemingly joking threat he made to tom price about getting his votes.
