5:00 a.m. this morning, and a look at the bay bridge and some low clouds that are no doubt going to burn off this morning. good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. i'm scott mcgrew in for sam. >> and i'm laura garcia cannon. they're going to burn off and we're going to burn up out there. >> that's right. it doesn't look like it lasts long looking at where we're seeing the fog and the marine layer right now. it's there, as of now, but, as we go through sunrise and late morning, we'll see some mostly clear skies. and our temperatures quickly heating up, right now in the low 60s as you head out the door and the east bay at 65 degrees. san francisco, 54, looking at the high temperatures today,

triple digits for those inland areas and 94 today in napa, san jose up to 91 degrees. we'll talk more about this and the heat advisory coming up. mike's talking about the bay bridge toll plaza. >> you saw the span. it's the concern overall. they are not a concern obviously right now, except for right there as the toll plaza. we were watching this also. west 80 an earlier crash is over on the shoulder, no slowing over the last ten minutes. that's better news for the east shore freeway. 14 minutes from highway four down to the bay bridge. you see the slowing. the live look earlier the cash lanes backing up and still seems to be the case. one of those cash lanes on the left approach and one over on the right is still closed. typical around 5:00, this will jog around and shift around. we'll track it, right back to you. we begin with a fight during the bay bridge series. didn't involve the players, instead, fans in the stands. and ball park security.

>> today in the bay's pete is there with that new video and the team's response. >> reporter: yeah, fwoorng, scott and laura. and the oakland a's tweeting early this morning making sure the security team is a third peter company. let's show you that video of the fight as it unfolded. you can see in that video posted bay fan there's a female body car throwing a series of punches at what appears to be a female fan. now at one point, she yanks the fan down by the hair into her seat. things got so heated that fellow security guards there in that video as well as fans had to eventually pull her away. now morning, plenty of questions regarding exactly what led to that fight. but the bay times reports that the guard was looking for someone specific in the top deck of the oakland coliseum. pointing and gesturing before the fight ensued. the person who hosted claims the

guard assaulted an innocent woman and was booed by fans and did an inappropriate gesture in response to the boos. the a's released a statement saying quote, during that tonight's game, there was an incident involving security guard. we consulting with the company and current ligating the situation. violence in any form is not acceptable and we take this incident seriously. so it looks like they are investigating the situation, no word on discipline for the guard or security company, but we know the a's will take on the giants tonight. here's oakland coliseum at 7:00 p.m. we're live, today in the bay. 5:03, happening today, fremont man expecting to be arraigned, he tried to extort his roommate. the man secretly recorded his roommates having sex. he then say he then threatened to release the footage. he denies the claims. something you'll hear only on nbc bay area.

here's what he told our mary-ann fabrio. >> did you videotape your roommates in bed? >> no. no. i didn't. >> due back in court today. kate steinly continues with yet another hearing. both sides are expected back in the courtroom at 9:00 this morning for that preliminary hearing. juan sanchez is accused of shooting and killing kate steinly on pier 14 in 2015. last week, the judge ruled the federal agent whose gone was stolen and used in the killing will testify in the upcoming trial. jury selection is expected to begin very soon. fire has damaged a north bay school. this morning the big question, will classrooms be ready when the school is back in session? it was at dixie elementary

corruption scandal. today the board of supervisors will begin review applications for that position. it starts at 9:00 this morning at the board chambers in martinez. as for peterson, he's been accused and charged with using $66,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses. how about riding your bike to work today? car pool and public transit? it's a spare the air day. it's in effect for the entire bay area. that's poor air quality can lead to potential health problems. during the hottest part of the day, you are advised to limit outdoor activities. now live to the tri-valley will things will certainly heat up today. parts of the east bay could see the triple digits. gary has more on that in just a bit. first pge will also be out in san ramone this morning showing people how they can stay school while trying to save a little energy and money. we'll be all trying to do that today as the temperatures heat up. let's look live outside in san jose. at least it is nice and cool to start out this morning.

it's 5:13, all we can see right now are the headlights as we look outside in san jose as the sunrises, it'll be a very warm afternoon. taking a look at the temperature trend for santa theresa, we'll be at 69 degrees at 9:00 this morning. rising up to 84 degrees by noon. and we don't stop there. it'll be up to 95 degrees there today. we will have some really hot temperatures today and tomorrow, more on that in the microclimate forecast in five minutes. and we're tracking this, no slowing for westbound 580, aside from the pass, smooth drive through livermore, eastbound we have a new crash, i'll check on

company which sounds like the lincoln brand. they plan to use it for high-tech vehicles. in chinese, it means style and technology. ford wants to protect it's lincoln brand as it plans to start production of the cars in china by 2019. spotify hitting another wig milestone, the service says it's top 60 million paid subscribers, adding ten million in less than five months. it's extending further past apple music which has 27 million subscribers. spotify is eyeing a possible ipo by the end of the year. back over to you. >> thank you. 5:15 this morning, commercial fishermen in san francisco gearing up for a big day. >> as we told you, commercial salmon season got under way after a delay. fishermen are hoping for a successful season after years of hardship. while crews prepare the lures for opening day, some federal lawmakers still fighting for disaster relief funds for the fishing fleet.

lawmakers say the shorter sar monoseason paired with recent shutdowns at the crab fishery due to the tax tick algae bloom leaving many fishermen struggling to stay afloat. >> we lost a lot of territory this year. there's been a lot of restrictions. that's because of bad science and bad management plans on the government end. yeah, i think there needs to be some kickdown. >> now while lawmakers work to deliver some financial help, fishermen are hoping to make up for the short fall for the big catch this time around. san jose working to streamline the complaint process. among those city launched the my san jose app. let's people directly contact crews about potholes, graffiti, or illegal dumping. then follow the progress online. the mayor says the city doesn't have enough office staff to handle all community complaints, so this cuts out the middle man. happening today, napa leaders are set to talk about redeveloping the lake. five properties have been evacuate since 2009, the napa

of the battle of the bay today. and as we get a look at seven date forecast at bottom of the screen. notice triple digit temperatures in there for the next couple of days. and right now as you step out the door, mid-50s, but then as you head towards the south bay, 60 degrees in san jose and 63 degrees now in livermore with our high temperatures reaching up to 99 degrees in morgan hill and gilroy, 100 degrees today. east bay looking at some widespread triple digit temperatures from walnut creek over toward livermore and up toward antioch. oakland, up to 79 degrees. we'll be at 66 today at half-moon bay and stooth. 73 on the em bark dare row. outer sunset, 68, and in sonoma today, we'll be up to 93 degrees. we will have this heat advisory in effect for all of these areas shaded in orange. that includes much of the santa cruz mountains, over towards the

south bay and east bay hills and also parts of the north bay, higher elevations is where the temperatures will be the highest today and reaching over 1 hurks degrees. not a bad day in oakland. we start out with clouds at 8:00, it'll be at 60 degrees at lunchtime. 71 degrees, then the high temperatures reaching into the upper 70s today. we'll drop it back to 68 degrees by 8:00 this evening. and if you have a choice of where to go hiking today, definitely to want choose the peninsula and somewhere along the coastline we will start out with some clearing skies and mostly sunny throughout the afternoon, highs reaching into the low 60s with some breezy winds. napa and sonoma valleys today, it'll be very hot. afternoon time, we're going to see the temperatures reaching into the low 90s and san francisco we'll see the high today up to 75 degrees, even warmer tomorrow. a lot of humidity coming into the mix between wednesday night and thursday. and that could spark off a few thunderstorms. especially with that high humidity and there may be some

cry lightning too. i'll have more updates on that and mike now has an early warning for bay bridge commuters. >> we saw the cash lanes back up early because not all were open. over here the flashing lights because of it's oversized load, i'm going to trust that they've mash measured and can make it through the toll gate. i'll let you know if anything else goes on. right now we have the cash lanes backed up again because one is not yet open. and at 5:30, we typically see the lights turned on and probably will, but that back-up is there unless you have fast track, that's an advantage for you. we'll get you out to the east shore freeway and the maize itself. easy flow all around. the speed sensors will take you over to the east bay. the tri-valley i should say and it is eastbound 580 without any slowing. hasn't shown up over the last seven minutes. that's good news. commute is westbound and know delays there. we'll take you to the waze system, mass transition isn't

grab suspects 5:24 right now. take a look at this new video, video of a smash and grab suspects. they were targeting a bay area costco. told you about this on sunday night. this was the costco in navato. three men all wearing masks. walked in at 10:00 in the morning on sunday. breaking that display case with a hammer. grabbing jewelry, and then taking off. same thing had recently happened in two other local costcos.

authorities are trying to determine if those crimes are connected. happening today, walnut creek city leaders considering partnering with a california state military department to help the homeless. council members will debate signing a four month agreement for a temporary homeless shelter. that would go up at walnut creek's national guard armory. today, group looking to make foopt traffic safer in san francisco says it'll do an audit of dangerous city streets. starting at 10:30 in the morning, leaders will join citizens to evaluate safety crossings. more details now to tell you about, the group says more than 40% of pedestrian deaths and traffic crashes are seniors. we investigated overnight, san francisco's city website says there were 30 overall traffic-related deaths in 2016. so far eight in 2017. and since 2009, the majority of traffic-related deaths in the city have been pedestrians. the city's website does not break down victim ages, however. 5:25, the san jose police

chief says there's still a lot of work to do to beef up the police department. the chief says things are starting to turn around. 20 cadets graduates in two weeks. 54 other cadets are also in training. for years, dozens of san jose officers resigned because of pay and pension cuts. but this year, 17 applied to return or transfer back to the force. monday, he swore in a now former palo alto officer. >> it's still a great department and i can't wait to start rk woing there. >> the officers that sacrifice and stayed here did not allow this police department to crumble. and i owe them, this community, we all owe them everything. >> that officer hits the street of san jose for the first time on sunday. now as of today, go online to book reservations at california state parks. >> the new system reserves california launches today has a website by the same name.

kerry. pge is asking that you reduce your energy usage today while the management district is asking you reduce the amount of time in your car. instead use public transport, car pool, or work from home if possible. spare the air alert because of concerns of excessive amount of fog during what is expected to be a very hot day. the national weather service is concerned enough that it has issued a heat advisory for elevations over 1,000 feet in the south, north, and east bays. this is going to be in fact until 9:00 tomorrow night. places like livermore expected to hit 102. i did check in with meteorologist kerry hall this morning, she look ld over the numbers and found that over in the tri-valley, they've had nine days above 100 degrees. kerry says we could be on track for a record for the most number of triple digit dpas that trend continues. now pg & e issued some tips. on how to save electricity in the hot weather. some obvious, some not so much.

assault heads to court. normandy burgo taught tennis. he's facing 62 felony continues what have authorities say was a sexual relationship with an underage student. in 2010, he faced similar charges in marin, but that case ended in a hung jury. more detarials on a 15 hour standoff in san francisco. breaking news yesterday morning on today in the bay. the suspect is in the hospital this morning after shooting himself in the chest at the end of that standoff. he shot and killed aenlderly woman late sunday night, then locked himself inside his home. not clear yet how the victim and suspect knew each other. new morning, police in san francisco say a woman has ep life threatening injuries stemming from a bleach attack. along mason street in the tenderloin. police say a man poured bleach on the face of a 5. -year-old woman who had been sitting on the sidewalk.

police say she me a go blind. at last check, she's still in the hospital. officer haven't made any arrests and we don't know what led up to that attack. new report outlines san jose's response to the damaging winter floods. internationally renowned emergency management consulting firm compared that report. it features ten key accident is and failings by the city both during the flood and the aftermath. the report offers 100 recommendations on how the city can improve it's emergency response procedures. among them, improve emergency planning as well as increasing coordination and strengthen staffing. >> the report is fair and honest. >> it'll be presented to the city council next tuesday. 5:35, follow-up to a story we were talking about yesterday. the oakland public ethics commission voted unanimously last night to hire an independent auditor to

investigate city council woman. that's according to to the san francisco chronicle. the auditor will look further into whether she broke ethics rules for allegedly stopping the construction of a proposed housing development near her home, that was back in 201437. east bay commuters, bart wants to hear from you about an extense. bart has opened the public comment period for it's proposed livermore extension project, that five mile leg would run along interstate # 80 and the highway four interchange. invites people comment online or tweend meetings in livermore and in dublin. report out overnight says san francisco controllers officer wants to discontinue cash payment for cable car rides. sf chronicle reports investigators posing as riders say conductors did not ask them to pay on 11 of 30 rides. riders can also pay with clipper

cards or online. the report says cash fares still account for a third of twrans sit system's revenue. and no delays reported for any of those trarns sis systems, including the cable cars. they are runs from what i understand this morning. over here, the south bay, san jose. it's not unusual at this time. we have a crash reported with one right off at the 80. the saim information is reported for a street. i'm scheking both areas. that was the first one they came in. i'm just judge big this pattern that's changed in the last 30 seconds and may be off of that 238 interchange, fwhald a tough problem for castro valley, we're checking both of those. travel times getting over towards the bay, but we showed you the early start they got for the cash lanes and now all lanes are backed up. a little bit more extensive the approach for the freeway and no problems as we said.

happened. contra costa county is reporting it's first west nile virus. >> two walnut creek birds tested positive as did a group of mosquitos out of discovery bay. there are no reports of people the doctoring the virus this year. health leaders say report ted birds immediately. now to developing news, analysts questioning the strength of north korea's missile stockpile this morning. last week the country tested a missile that might be able to reach the mainland. this morning the analysts tell the associate the press they have yet to prove that could do real damage. it's unlikely the missiles are day ofable of dearing warheads all the way to their destination. also new morning, gavin newsome raised more money than anyone else to be california's next governor. in figured released monday, the raced over $5 million so far this year. that is double each of the leading democratic rivals.

the lyft driver says she was picking up a group in south sacramento about 3:00 in the morning last thursday. she says eight people tried to get into the car, but she told them she only had room for six. the group she sayings refused to follow the rules, so she called police. she says that's when things turned violent. >> the phone started ringing and then that's when water started getting thrown on me basically from all drexs. i started getting punched and they started taking my phone on my right side. >> hall says five people attacked her before she was finally able to shut the door and drive away. lyft deactivated the account for the passenger who ordered the ride and it'll assist in the investigation. police have need arrests. five minutes to the hour, happening today, covered california will release monthly premiums for 2018. and this comes at time of of uncertainty about the future of the u.s. health care system.

insurers have been warning they'll have to raise prices unless federal lawmakers at and the trump administration provide more certainty about the insurance market. governor jerry brown is vetoing a proposal to crack down on people using mylar balloons. assembly men sponsored that. pg & e says metallic balloons have caused 130 power outages so far this year. disrupting service for customers. a cluster caused an 11,000 acre fire in 2013, and 75 acre fire in 2015. the bill called for $100 fine for releasing the balloon some call accepted. >> i think it's crazy, really. to be honest. >> the idea would be to stop people from releasing balloons. i don't think they'll be facting any children. >> reporter: governor brown says he vetoed because criminal
