today. throw some humidity in the mix and that makes it even worse. this is what we're looking at today as far as our high temperatures in the south bay, up to 102 in gilroy this afternoon, 102 in pleasanton as well and oakland today 80 degrees and for the peninsula we'll be up to 91 in palo alto, san francisco, 70 and 75 in the mission district and the north bay into the mid-90s from napa down to know vado. we'll talk about the high temperatures expected for the rest of the weekend, the chance for some thunderstorms and maybe dry lightning. that's coming up. mike is tracking that big traffic headache in east bay. >> it could potentially be a measure issue. right now we're looking at the speed sensors. we're concentrating over here in the hayward area. this is right off the castro valley y. you'll see flares closing off at

14th or at 185. a lot of changes over here. mission boulevard, east 14th and 238, a major concern potentially later on in the morning commute. right now our bob redell is out there. we saw them making progress on the big rig. what is going on out there? >> reporter: good morning. you can see behind me a wrecker crew is putting air bags underneath this overturned tractor-trailer. they don't want to tear the trailer apart because it's loaded with 70,000 pounds of washers and dryers. this big rig overturned just before 2:00 this morning as the driver was coming off a 238 on to 14th street here. they were going too fast according to chp. lost control and overturned. as a result the northbound 238 on ramp is shut down until we're able to get this big rig uprighted and removed from the screen. chp expects this to take another hour so we're looking at 6:00 to

7:00 this morning before they're able to get this uprighted and removed. looking at the progress we see right now. chp also points out the fact that based on their local knowledge of the area this 14th street on-ramp to northbound 238, usually does not get backed up during the commute so they do not expect this to have a huge impact on the morning commute. if you take a look back over here where you can see northbound 238, that on-ramp is shut down, the traffic is far in the background. people going into the warren will not be able to see this accident. the bottom line and takeaway they do not expect this to have a huge impact on your ride to work if you're going to the hayward area. the driver's okay so he might face a citation, reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay."

shots fired 11:30 last night. that's close to apple avenue. the severity of the injuries not clear. we've been placing calls to the sheriff's department to find out more for you and with we did some checking overnight. in july alone, three people were murdered in hayward. happening today, a san francisco judge will decide if three political consultants will go to trial for corruption in a case connected to the raymond shrimp boy trial scandal. keith jackson a former school board president. they've pleaded not guilty to allegations they helped arrange bribes for former state senator lee. he's already serving a five year sentence. all three are accused of laundering money. we know that hot cars can be deadly for toddlers. in a new proposal serves to aim that problem.

hot cars act. it would have car makers install rear seat sensors to sop children from being left in the hot cars. just yesterday chp had to rescue a 2-month-old baby in san jose. chp says the mother and baby were asleep, but the car was over-90 degrees. new this morning about 2,000 children's magging nettic building sets are under recall. they're called the rainbow dream builder and rainbow solid builder. they're choking hazard because the welds holding the corners can break and the magnets inside can get out. those toys were sold at school supplies. panel craft and tout about toys. the lawsuit accuses administrators of failing to stop the abuse that led to 12-year-old mallory grossman's death. her parents say she was cyber bullied over months over the phone, in june she committed

suicide. >> it humiliated her. it intimidated her. it made her feel alone. >> the tex messages escalated to her where it said why don't you kill yourself. the school district is cooperating with the investigation into the death. the grossman's say they want actability. bill cosby needs a new attorney. cosby's lead attorney wants off the case. brian mcmon angel filed documents tuesday seeking to withdraw from cosby's defense team. he says he will stay until cosby can get new lawyers in place. the 80-year-old comedian is scheduled for a retrial in november. campbell police trying to explain why a officers was aiming his gun at an unarmed passenger where officers kept his gun pointed as a car's passenger for more than five minutes. the department says the gun was

drawn when the passenger reached under his seat. >> facebook video shows the nine minutes of the gun being drawn. what it doesn't show is the five minutes leading up to that. campbell police say officers are trained to keep guns drawn in threatening scenarios if no backup is near. the critics say there was no need for the aggression. happening today, the bay bridge series continues. last night the giants being the a's 10-4. giants hit three homers. and tonight they'll move to at&t with the first pitch set for 7:15. we have a follow-up to the brawl that broke out during monday night's game. we showed you this video. the oakland police department says this fight started over a stolen backpack. the team says the security guard involved who is seen hitting a woman will no longer work at a's game. less cars, more bikes. that's the plan for san francisco redescribe.

we are seeing some mostly clear skies as we take a live look outside in fremont this morning as we go through the day. our temperatures quickly heating up. we'll be in the low 90s by this afternoon with more clouds moving in. we'll talk about the humidity and the chance for dry lightning in the bay area coming up in about five minutes. air bags help with the crash and recovery. this is over here in the hayward area. that rig is back on its wheels. we'll talk about where exactly this is and the impact it may have on your commute. honda's got a new electric car on the market. it debuted in silicon valley. it launched the clarity. it's first all electric sedan. limited release. and it's a lease only costing around $270 per month for three years. the mercury news says honda plans to step up production of electric vehicles in the coming months. a controversial development got the go ahead from los gatos

report. the nasdaq up 14 to 6362. watch shares of apple. they could trade at a record high today after the company reported better than expected earnings on strong iphone sales and that's easing fears of a possible slow down as consumers wait for the next version of the device. there has been speculation that production issues would delay the launch of the next iphone until late this year or next year. major health insures are seeking increase for obamacare premium in 2018. late request publish the by the department of health and human services insurance are also looking for more limited premium increases for products that they offer in individual states. the data reflects uncertainty as companies try to make decisions for next year amid open questions about changes that could come from the white house and the congress. scott and laura back over to you. let's get a look at the

forecast. we've been talking about this heat we've been having. >> or grumbling about it. >> they'll be grumbling even more once the humidity kicks in and it's been a long time coming. and then we have a chance of a slight chance of thunderstorms, maybe even dry lightning. so just a very unusual setup as we are going to have some really hot temperatures later today. look at where we'll be getting this morning. it's 68 degrees in the tri-valley. this is pretty bad. it's 66 degrees in the south bay, east bay at 58 degrees and it's 56 degrees right now in san francisco. we can see a little bit of that fog rolling by but much of the city is all clear and we're starting out in gilroy, nine degrees warmer than yesterday at this time and i think that trend will continue as we head up to 100 degrees in morgan hill and concord today 102. napa 96 degrees and san francisco mid-70s.

we'll keep those temperatures the same. i think it'll be a great day to go to the beach if you can. we'll start out in the upper 50s and up to 70 degrees at noon and more clouds moving in by 4:00. we'll see those highs only reaching the low 70s there and it's a great day to go golfing early in the day, very early. already by 9:00 we're at 77 degrees in the trivale, 92 degrees at noon. you know it's going to be a hot day as we see those temperatures quickly make it into the upper 90s and even over 100 degrees. this hot area of high pressure really setting records for the pacific northwest but it's far enough north to allow for this area of low pressure, that rain that we've been tracking this morning just offshore to move in. it's sucking up moisture and as it moves into the bay area it creates some high humidity, but then it dries out and that creates the potential of some dry lightning as it moves in. we'll have that chance late tonight and throughout the day

tomorrow. mostly cloudy skies. san francisco reaching into the low to mid-70s for the weekend. we'll be in the upper 60s and for the inland areas up to 101 degrees today for some valleys. very muggy tomorrow. look at those overnight temperatures, 72 degrees and for friday it all clears out of here, humidity goes back down but it will still be hot. i'll have more updates on that and mike has another update on that big rig crash. >> we have a big tow truck, a second one in the area. it looks like they're getting ready to hook up perhaps to this trailer. let's watch for a few seconds. we saw this big orange air bags that were underneath the rig. they inflated that to help get it up past the tipping point where they could stand it up on its wheels. they're now moving this big rig tow truck into the area. i'm hoping what they'll be able to do is hook this trailer up on to this tow truck. those air bags we talked about.

this is the on-ramp to northbound 238 at east 14th over there in the hayward-castro valley. the on-ramp is closed but so is the off-ramp. that's a critical point. we're going to monitor that and tell you that here there are no slowing sensors as you approach north 238 at east 14th. that off-ramp is closed for the time being. you get to the freeway. we'll track that as the morning continues. it may be another hour or so but it looks like they're making quick work so far. it did not rip through the side of that big rig and that's good news. the south bay and peninsula look great. no major issues. look at waze and see how things are shaping up. union city over toward redwood city you can cross the dunbar and the san mateo bridge or even 237. that route takes you about 20 minutes longer. so 92 and 84 both looking really good right now. you can compare your routes as

patients faster than ever. a new report from the university of colorado say u.s. hospitals have set a record for how quickly they opened block arteries, averaging under one hour for the first time. just a decade ago less than half the patients were treated that fast. a bay area community rallying for a high school football team to have a second chance at playing. it's on the verge of having its season totally cancelled because there aren't enough students signed up to play. players say they weren't giving fair deadlines by administrators either. >> they gave us a chance and he totally blew us off out of nowhere. it's just not fair. >> they told us we had a certain amount of time and cut it short which sucks for us, not kind of, it does suck for us. however players and parents are rallying on social media to save the novato hornets. the team will be back in business. in case you missed it or maybe you want to see it again,

welcome back to you at 5:30 on your wednesday. a live picture of a big rig that is up on its wheels. that was quick work by crews out in hayward. mike's going to tell us all about that crash coming up in just a bit. good morning everyone. i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we're talking about that accident. you know what else is effecting everyone is this weather. it's been pretty hot, carri. >> it feels a little bit warmer and we have a heat advisory again today. some of the hills around the bay area reaching over the 90s and 100 degrees. also tracking a surge in moisture and rain that's just offshore. looking at live lightning as those icons pop up on the screen. live lightning detected by our

radar and that will be a concern today as these temperatures reach into the triple digit. we'll be watching out for that chance of some lightning, even a little bit of thunderstorm or two popping up later this evening. high temperatures in san jose up to 9'93 degrees. and mike's talking up at the commute at the bay bring. >> surprise. it was a little slower to build. there's a spider right there. 5:24, it took about seven minutes to build, it's earlier and lighter but we did give it a chance to build. let's look at your roadways, even though that backup is, there the waze is moving very slowly. with that volume increasing, we are starting to see from time to time a little bit of showing slowing on the fire sensors for north 238 coming off the castro valley y. just off 238, you saw the live picture of the big rig. bob's out there.

you got a progress report for us. >> reporter: a lot of progress has been made in the last half hour. you can see this big rig that was once on its side has been uprighted. you see those orange bags there, a wrecker company put those bags underneath the big rig. there was concern that the trailer itself could tear and rip apart because it's so heavy the load, inside 70,000 pounds of washers and dryers but you could see they were successful. it's just a matter of hooking the big rig up to a wrecker so it can be towed out of here. this big rig overturned just before 2:00 this morning. the driver according to chp was coming off northbound 238 on the left side of your screen. you can see right here on the ground some dirt. he came off the off-ramp too fast according to chp, lost control, took out that sign, rolled over. the driver was okay, was able to get himself out of the big rig on his own. chp noticed oil leaking up from the cab.

they were able to dike that about five gallons of oil. i bring that up because cal train is out here and they consider that to be a hazmat situation. this big rig should be taken out of here any moment. it looks like they do have it hooked up to the wrecker, in the meantime you'll see have northbound 238 the on and off-ramp here at 14th street still shut down until this big rig is cleared from the scene. if you can see, there's your commute traffic there heading towards 880, those bright lights, but you're looking at it traffic is at the limit. in other words, this doesn't seem that this accident here at the northbound 238 on and off-ramp is having much impact on the morning commute. reporting live here in hayward, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> we have more breaking news overnight. this is video just into our newsroom within the last few

minutes. the u.s. air force successfully launching an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile off the central california coast. this launch came from vandenberg air force base just after 2:00 a.m. it follows repeated missile tests by north korea. two people slightly hurt after their cars crash into a cow overnight on an east bay highway near fish ranch road. officers say the car was blocking lanes when it was hit by another car and then another. the drivers were treated at the scene. no update on the cow. the search is expected to continue this morning for a missing person in the water at san francisco's ocean beach. >> pete suratos joins us live from ocean beach with the latest on the search at this hour, pete? >> reporter: good morning. to you. i just hopped off the phone with the coast guard and they confirmed with me that they're cutter is still in the water here at ocean beaches as they conduct their search for that

missing person that went missing in the water just last night. the weather could be a factor when you consider the heavy fog in this area. i was going to show you a man of where this search is taking place. it's not too far from the cliff house. according to the coast guard we're saying that a 911 call came in around 7:30 p.m. last night of a person in distress, in the water near the popular cliff house restaurant. san francisco fire officials assisted the coast guard with the search but has since left this scene. the cutter will remain on the scene to search for this victim and the beachhead is dangerous when you consider the dangerous rip current out here. i've had a chance to look into the more recent incidences at the beach. if you remember in february, there was a 35-year-old man rescued from the surf by crews after he was found facedown in the water suffering critical injuries. then in august of last year you had a 29-year-old man dying while surfing in the waters here at ocean beach. in april of last year you had

two teams swept out into the water by rip current presumed to have drown after search efforts for the two were unsuccessful. now i'll continue to check in with the coast guard and continue to monitor this season and give you another update in the next hour. live in ocean beach, pete suratos, for "today in the bay." >> it's scary for passengers and workers at sfo after a teenager opened the emergency exit and left the plane as it moved on the tarmac. this happened yesterday afternoon on a airline flight from panama city, panama. after the plane landed, a teenager opened that exit door and jumped out. some flyers say the whole thing was hard to process. >> so the door opened when the plane landed and i just saw someone as they were flying out of the door, of the emergency door. the pilot called air-traffic control who quickly spotted that teen. he was actually already being held by maintenance workers at

sfo. they saw the whole thing. he's in custody as customs and border patrol agents investigate. some mystery this morning surrounding a south bay art studio which has suddenly been shut down as the crimes task force investigates. enlightenment studios it's billed as a place for children. parents yesterday sent a letter to the parents that san jose police were investigating the studio. we're going to keep asking questions, hope to get more details for you later today. the studio will remain closed until that investigation is complete. happening today, congresswoman barbara lee set to talk about the affordable care act. she's scheduled to tour highland hospital's trauma center and address the impact of repeal of the aca would have on alameda county health system. lee says the system would lose $94 million every year if that law is repealed. it's 5:37. the museum of ice cream will

we have live pictures coming up. we're looking at your live travel time toward the bay bridge. the metering lights are on and no problems getting out there. so that's a good look right now. you might want to come to work to cool off in the office air conditioning. we're just trying to make it over the hump and try to make it through this heat and that will be the struggle over the next couple of days. let's look forward to the weekend and the forecast which looked better than what we're dealing with now. it's going to be up to 92 degrees for the inland valleys. the coast will be at 67 degrees. on sunday more of the same but just a little bit lower. the bay will be at 70 degrees and 90 for the inland areas and one huge festival going on this week at the fremont festival of the arts if you're making plans. it is going to be a little bit warm throughout much of the afternoon. i think this is going to be a very nice event to check out, some live music and food and this goes on all day long from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. it will be reaching into the

president. president trump appeared to shove the leader during a photo op. happening today, amazon holds a nationwide job fair. the company says it will offer thousands of jobs on the spot at nearly a dozen warehouses located around the nation. they want to hire 50,000 workers by tonight but unfortunately no california locations are part of today's hiring event. >> facebook has a new partner in its push to create affordable housing. facebook yesterday announced that a nonprofit called the local initiatives support corporation will work to turn the companies initial 18 and a half million dollars investment into as much as $75 million. facebook is working to build new low-income housing and taking on some of the legal costs in eviction cases. at the same time facebook's own recent success has indirectly led to tighter housing and demand on traffic in the peninsula. new surveillance pictures show the woman who police say

something where you have to stay nice and cool, short sleeves and shorts a great option there. not only that but it will be very humid. we're tracking a system that's just offshore and this here, live lightning detected by a radar. it's well offshore, but this system is close enough by the bay area bringing some spotty rain to the central coast and as it moves into the bay area, we'll see some more clouds moving in and a chance of some dry lightning. looks like a lot of that rain dries up. this is what computer models do. it keeps the rain to the south of us but there may be a few spotty showers moving in as we go into late tonight and early tomorrow morning. and then throughout the day tomorrow, these clouds will be streaming by. it'll be so muggy that our low temperatures won't dip that much. we'll be in the low 70s as we start out the day tomorrow and another hot day ahead. you might want to head to at&t park today.
