gigi stone woods. we begin with breaking news this morning. the australian navy has found the missing u.s. military aircraft that crashed off the country's coast saturday. while 23 of the 26 personnel aboard the auspryh hele plane were rescued, marines have switched to a search and rescue operation for three military personnel presumed to be dead. officials say the aircraft was conducting regularly scheduled operations before the incident, it's been investigated by u.s. and australian authorities. tulsa, oklahoma, is still cleaning up this morning following massive damage from a rare late summer ef-2 tornado. the first august twister in tulsa since the late 1950s. the powerful winds ripped roofs off of homes and businesses. 30 people were injured, eight of them had to be pulled out of a tgi friday's when it collapsed on top of them. the tornado struck so suddenly

there was no time for warnings. >> it just happened too quickly. i mean, it was just all of a sudden it's there, we didn't have any ramp up time. >> there have been no reports of deaths related to the storm. utility companies say about 3,500 people remain without power, down from 14,000. authorities are asking residents to stay away from the hard hit downtown area until they can ensure everyone's safety. the international community is responding to the growing nuclear threat from north korea. the u.n. security council voted unanimously to impose tough new sanctions on the hermit kingdom. late last president trump spoke with south korea's president discussing the grave danger posed by north korea. janice, what can you tell us about the situation in north korea? >> reporter: president trump spoke with south korea's president today and both men agreed that there needs to be maximum pressure now on north korea. this is a point that's been underscored by secretary of

state rex tillerson at the asean forum that's being held in the philippines. secretary tillerson saying that the vote at the u.n. was a good outside. here is more of what he had to say. >> we hope, again, that -- that this ultimately will result in north korea coming to the conclusion to choose a different pathway and when the conditions are right, that we can sit and have a dialogue around the future of north korea so that they feel secure and prosper economically. >> they are also applauding china for taking a stand, upholding the sanctions and not exercising a veto. there has been some pressure on china particularly by the u.s. to do something to reign in the north. china has never been able to stop north korea from advancing its program, china itself is saying that in an editorial in the main communist party newspaper today it said that the icbm test needed to be punished,

but that the u.s. is showing arrogance and that it's the u.s. that has now the key role to try and dial down the tension. gigi. >> we will see if these new sanctions are effective. thank you. in the middle of what aides call a working vacation in new jersey, the president is dealing with more than one disconcerting headline as north korea plots ahead the russian investigations move forward and a new story questions his own vice president's loyalty. nbc's kelly o'donnell has all of that and more from bridgewater, new jersey. good morning, kelly. >> reporter: good morning, phillip. president trump is away from the white house for the next two weeks, his team is touting good economic numbers and a positive development toward north korea, but there is a new question about loyalty within his team that is drawing a fierce denial. from his summer stay at his new jersey golf resort, president trump's first take on a significant foreign policy accomplishment, the north korea sanctions came without bravado.

storm clouds hovering from the russia investigations and potential improper contacts by trump allies. when pressed about whether the president would try to fire special counsel bob mueller, conway batted that away. >> we are cooperating with -- he has not even discussed -- he has not discussed firing bob mueller. >> reporter: the justice department official currently overseeing mueller's team rod rosenstein would have to approve any expansion of the probe beyond areas and people beyond the initial russia interference and would not say if he had. >> but bob mueller understands and i understand the specific scope of the investigation and so, no, it's not a fishing expedition. >> reporter: the white house won't talk about any specific conversations with mueller's team but stresses it is fully skoopting. the president's additional white house lawyer handling document requests and working directly with the investigations tells me he expects to visit bedminster during the next two weeks. phillip.

>> all right. kelly, thank you. this morning the fbi is still trying to figure out who bombed a minnesota mosque damaging part of the building. it happened early saturday at the islamic center in bloomington. no one was injured but the imam's office was destroyed. the governor visited the site and strongly condemned the attack. >> if the roles were reversed it would be called a terrorist attack and that's what it is. it's an act of terrorism. a criminal act of terrorism. >> faith communities around bloomington have expressed their support for the mosque members. the islamic center plans to hold a solidarity event saturday to express their gratitude. in florida over a weekend a massive sinkhole continues to grow swallowing two more homes and four more houses nearby were condemned as workers continue to try to stabilize the area that's now over 300 feet. in new orleans drone video of flooded streets after a pounding rain averaged about 2 inches of water per hour, up to

that's this morning on "today." now to a bizarre story out of milan where police arrested a man they say drugged and kidnapped a young british model then tried to sell her on the dark web. matt bradley is in london with the developing details. tell us more about this chilling story. >> reporter: thanks, gigi. it certainly is a very bizarre story indeed. what we're seeing this morning are picture throughout the british press showing this young model who is coming out and describing her ordeal. the italian police have reported that this young woman reported for duty for a modeling job in milan and that she was bundled by two men into the back seat of a car, bound, gagged, drugged and taken to a village near the french border. now, it only gets stranger from here because six days later she was released because these men said that they were actually involved in a criminal syndicate and that it was against the code of honor of this syndicate to
