our palo alto camera, a disabled vehicle. as you travel south from university down towards the embarcadero, there may be slowing. breaking right now new photos just in show u.s. air force planes arriving in guam. it comes after a threat to attack the u.s. territory. secretary of state rex tillerson has arrived in guam, and what he has said about north korea's threats shortly before touching down. >> the capabilities can point in many directions. guam is not the only place that could be under threat. i never considered rerouting the trip back and i don't believe there is an imminent threat. >> pretty interesting that he went on to say don't worry. diplomacy is working. a lot of developments overnight. tracie potts joins us live.

secretary tillerson's response much tamer to the president's warning to north korea. >> reporter: he also tried to explain what the president meant saying president trump was trying to speak in language that north korea's leader would understand, but like the governor of guam, the secretary of state said there is no real threat here. the latest he threat prompted this reaction from the island's governor. >> i want to reassure the people that currently there is no threat. >> reporter: and this warning from president trump. >> they will be met with fire, fury and power. the likes of which this world has never seen before. >> reporter: the tough words unexplained by the white house. >> i think the president's comments were very strong and obvious. >> reporter: criticized as are reckless and questioned by some

if you know the neighborhood it is some pretty prime real estate. but the city council decided this comes down to a matter of zoning and revenue. it is about a third of an acre. sarah chasener wanted to build housing units for teachers to rent inexpensively for three years while they save up for a down payment for a home of their own. sounds like a good plan. the city council for that district says it really comes down to money. >> which would be detrimental to the city's revenue stream. >> reporter: deb davis says the city just does not have enough commercial property and that commercial property is what generates jobs.

at 6:00 we'll talk more about how much of the city's properties is set aside for commercial residents. that's at 6:00. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, kris. a protest against wells fargo at a san francisco headquarters. activists are calling on the bank to help provide relief right now from the housing crisis. those who accuse wells fargo of overcharging veterans for home loans and discriminating against undocumented immigrants. activists want the bank to give $35 million to a sanctuary housing fund. protesters are also mentioning outrage over thousands, of course, fake accounts opened by wells fargo the company admits to doing although the number of the fake accounts now apparently could rise significantly. a computer outage grounded many southwest flights last night. overnight we talked with an

airline spokesperson who says a technology issue affected 120 flights. there were several delays and cancellations that include two at sfo, one in oakland and one in san jose. southwest says they're not residual delays this morning. caltrains wants to talk about storing bikes. they've been taking the public input on the design of those cars. check out the options caltrain is consideration today. that is happening from 7:30 this morning until 7:00 tonight. the new cars are expected to roll out in 2020 after the tracks are fully electrified. >> bay road at menlo park will be closed in 90 minutes and will remain closed. the roads will be closed for 39 hours over the next few days and here is why. you probably noticed some of it. closures between marsh and

mike. rescue crews are rushing in to save after a massive earthquake struck. the at least nine are dead, 150 hurt after widespread damage hit the southwestern region. at least five of the dead are tourists. it struck a re john bored eregi. a national park is in the region which is a popular spot for tourists. >> the music world mourning the loss of an icon. singer glenn campbell is dead after a long battle with alzheimer's disease. his star on the hollywood walk of fame continues to be bombarded with flowers and mementos. glenn campbell sold more than 45 million records in his career including hits like "wichita linemen" and "georgia on my mind."

he was 81 years old. tiger woods will not be in a courtroom for his arraignment. he is expected to plead not guilty to driving under the influence. a live look where it takes place. the golfer will not attend the hearing and under court rules that means woods is pleading not guilty. officers found him asleep at the wooet. a breathalyzer test did not detect any alcohol. he says he had a reaction to prescribed medication. that so-called google manifesto, the employee behind the controversial memo about verse diversity is talking about his firing. he says he believes he was wrongfully terminated and believes his firing was, quote, for political reasons.

that puts officers at risk while in their own patrol cars. the chief engineer for ford tells nbc news the company investigators have found police interceptor vehicles with holes allowing carbon monoxide inside the cabin of the car. some officers have gotten sick. and ford says it appears it's making repairs and that police departments are putting those cars back into service. prepare to scope out another streaming certificaservice. disney is launching its own version in 2019. that happens to be the same year that its current deal with netflix expires. disney says content will remain on netflix through the end of 2019 but new movies released that year such is as "frozen 2" are going to show up on its own service. no word yet on what will happen with marvel or star wars content. disney says the move will not affect the original marvel shows available on netflix. check your child's swimsuit. thousands are being recalled right now. the recall involves the wave

developing overnight workers pulling a massive crane from on top of a home in campbell. this toppled over in the neighborhood yesterday leaving a lot of damage behind. this morning neighbors are hoping things will finally get back to normal soon. >> that crane was there for hours. bob redell joins us live with the investigation under way to find how it all happened. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. pg&e which hired the crane operator will be conducting an investigation and so will cal osha, the state agency that regulates this kind of work. we're on sondra way in campbell, and that crane used to be sitting right here and if fell back there behind me between those two homes within the past few moments. the crane operator removed parts of the crane. this is a process that started in the 12:00 a.m. hour this morning with workers using two other cranes to upright the collapse ed train and load it on to a large truck to be hauled out of here. a number of people in the surrounding houses had to be

evacuated during the removal process. we believe most of them if not all of them are back home. the crane op rater called king crane services was hired by pg&e to replace a pole. yesterday around noon that crane which was extended as much as 200 feet tipped over and crashed down on two sheds and part of a roof of a house. no one was hurt. we spoke with a man who lived in the neighborhood, works construction. here is what he thinks happened. >> it was overextended. if it shifts the wrong way, it's going to go down. >> it better not hit my roof. i just had my roof done. >> reporter: nbc bay area did reach out to king crane services, but we have yet to hear from them. reporting live here in campbell, not the too far from west cam avenue, bob redell, "today in

the bay." >> awfully froitenning there. >> somebody could have been seriously injured there. 5:33. all new this morning, more reports of problems at b.a.r.t. stations across the bay area. we've been keeping tabs on it. there were several reports of fare evasions. ba.a.r.t. will add more officer. officials say they're looking to hire 50 additional people. they say the people funded by the homeland security department is understaffed. reports of an increase he in crime throughout the transit system. it's 5:34 right now and new details on breaking news that we brought you yesterday on "today in the bay." the hunt continuing this morning for a gunman who shot and killed a liquor store owner right in front of his. this morning there is a growing memorial at the scene there. people continue to leave flowers and candles in san jose in memory of hugh li, the father of four, well known in the community. they say he was shot and killed just before 11:00 last night by somebody trying to rob his store in east san jose.

police have yet to release the suspect's description. new this morning a bust at a milpitas hotel. four people with outstanding warrants totaling over $1 is million arrested it at the embassy suite hotels. here are the mug shots of three of them. poe say the suspects were wanted in multiple cities for i.d. theft, burglary, and possession of drugs. the arrests happened more than two weeks ago but investigators just released the information overnight. one of the suspects is expected in court fex week. into new this morning, step your windows closed to stop a certain odor from invlaading your space. pete suratos, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. if you live in the central part of dublin you may come in contact with the plastic odor smell connected to what you see behind me. they're doing some sewer main work. it's taking place along village

parkway here in dublin. now i did some research on what this odor is. before we get into that pull up a map of the affected area. as you can see on the map it's happening along the stretch of village parkway here in dublin stretching from the drive where we're standing just past dublin boulevard, so that's south of where we're standing now. i did go on the district website. they put out the alert to close your windows because of the o r odor. it says it is coming from a material which is in the pipeliner being installed in the sewer main. they're rehabilitating the sewer line. on the website it says the concentrations are very low. they can't be detected and it's not considered hazardous. closing your window is a precautionary mess to prevent the smell coming into your home or your place of business. now folks are being asked to close window this is afternoon as well as thursday afternoon. the are project is expected to wrap up in dublin at the end of the month. live in dublin, pete suratos for

police officer is now over. ian mccarthy is charged with first-murder. he shot and killed a police officer. mccarthy was injured in the incident but they have not said how badly he was injured. a victim was doing his laundry inside his apartment complex on valencia street when a man in his 20s came inside and stabbed him. the victim was hospitalized. >> new this morning a major victory for low-income drivers in solano county. so llano county superior court s sued by a man whose driver's license was suspended because he couldn't afford to pay for a smog test.

people will have the right to argue if they're not able to pay their traffic fine. the court will then consider some alternatives like community service or maybe reducing fines so drivers can pay them. lawyers say the case can serve as a model for other counties across california. 5:56 and happening right now police are asking for help sofg solving a homicide in hollister. officers say 40-year-old lisa hall died from gunshot wounds shortly after she was brought to a hospital early yesterday morning. police say a man brought her to the hospital but he didn't give them any information about how hall was injured. detectives say the same man had been with hall in downtown hollister the night before. they left the downtown area in this dark blue gmc pickup truck. police are trying to figure out what happened between the time she left the downtown area and when she was brought to the hospital. >> laura, some startling health news to bring you this morning.
