kira/2shot good saturday morning. 7:00 on the nose. a live look outside. fog covers the embarcadero in san francisco and the bay bridge. typical summer morning. good morning. thanks for joining us. i am kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at the microclimate forecast. >> we have been waking up to low clouds and fog as you said. very typical. at least it's keeping us cool. it looks like the marine layer will keep us cool through the weekend and that will bring on a nice temperature trend into the cooler range. along the peninsula right now, 56 degrees. the south bay 62.

hazy skies. tri-valley, 58. we haven't really had too much sunshine, especially along the coast, but it looks like today we may catch a break in the sun, at least until the later part of the morning. i won't call it a sunny day, but it will be sunnier than yesterday. 55 for san francisco. north bay, 53. a live look right now at the doppler radar, you can see the fog right now at about 1,000 feet. it's extending further inland into some parts including oakland as well. the temperature trend will climb quickly in san francisco. right now we're at 60 degrees. we'll top out at about 67 for san francisco today. we are expecting to see warmer spots especially in the valleys. i'll have a closer look at that in about 15 minutes. >> we'll stay tuned for that. thanks. police in rohnert park are warning residents about a registered sex offender who just moved into the town.

the self-proclaimed downtown l.a. predator is the new neighbor. dan cilley is on probation for annoying a minor. the 33-year-old didn't touch a child but videotaped them and women as well while making vulgar comments. these are videos he made in los angeles and posted on social media. he has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. he can't be alone with minors nor videotape them. parents are rohnert park are concerned. cilley says he understands what he did was wrong and that he plans to follow the law. >> don't worry at all. i did obviously, if you saw the videos that i have made -- yeah, you think -- i mean, it is bad. i mean, to disrespect people if they don't want to be on camera. i'm not going to do that anymore. >> i don't like that. >> police believe cilley is a high risk to reoffend. he is on three years' unsupervised probation.

firefighters are keeping an eye on a fast-moving wildfire which forced some out of their homes in napa county. this is video from our nbc area sky ranger. flames broke out around 1:00 p.m. yesterday along highway 128. so far 100 acres have burned. the fire is 25% contained. mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted. south to santa clara county. a brush fire is still burning in morgan hill. the flames are holding steady at 100 acres. firefighters have stopped it from spreading. at this hour it is only 5% contained. more than 100 people gathered to honor a beloved san jose liquor store owner shot and killed and his own store. the memorial happened hours after police announced they've made an arrest in the case. >> reporter: for most of the people here, hieu ly or charlie, was like a wise elder of the neighborhood. >> he was a man.

my grandson called him bossman. >> even when you don't have the right money to pay for him, he said, bring it later. he trusted the people that goes around his store. >> reporter: his three sons were among the crowd here to honor their father. they did not want to speak on camera, but the family thanked the group for their support. those who knew him say he was a devoted husband and dedicated father. >> he is awesome. he protects his family. >> reporter: monday night ly refused to open his cash register during an armed robbery. detectives say this 21-year-old allegedly shot ly as his wife watched and threatened to shoot her if she called police. during an afternoon news conference, the police chief said security camera video helped officers track hendricks. >> the video was utilized to aid in the suspect's identification and capture. >> reporter: a gang detective recognized hendricks in the video. he was traced thursday and arrested without incident.

nbc bay area news. a man died while on a tour of the space and science center. oakland police are investigating what they are calling an unexpla unexplained and suspicious death. they said a man was part of a tour group with adults with special needs was on the ground. he was reportedly acting aggressively towards people in the group. police and firefighters performed cpr but he passed at way. the coroner put a hold on the man's identity. if anything happens to guam, there will be big trouble in north korea. >> the president said he feels the people of guam will be very safe despite threats of missile launches by north korea. but residents of the u.s. territory have been advised what to do just in case. north korea's military says its

welcome back. it's 7:10. a foggy look at the cloud covered san mateo bridge this saturday morning. vianey arana says san mateo will see temperatures about 74 today and mostly sunny skies. so there is hope from here. an update on the cal rugby player who was paralyzed during a game. we are happy to report that he is making strides in his recovery. his father posted this video on facebook. you see pailer there standing up and taking steps with a little help. he was playing against arkansas state in santa clara when he suffered a spinal injury. it happened in a play that is now being investigated by usa rugby. the campaign to recall controversial bay area judge erin persky came to a grinding

halt after a judge ruled the recall effort had to temporarily stop collecting signatures. scott budman explains it's a setback that's angered organizers. judge persky himself was not in court, but he did score a victory against the effort to have him removed from the bench. >> we won today's hearing. >> reporter: a judge put a temporary restraining order on efforts to collect signatures needed to put the recall on the june ballot. judge persky became the target of a recall effort after sentencing one-time stanford swimmer brock turner to six months in jail on sexual assault charges. persky's supporters say the recall is misguided. >> he is a good and fair judge who has always endeavored to follow the law. and he deserves his day in court. he deserves a fair hearing. he deserves fair consideration by the people of this county. >> reporter: michelle dauber, a stanford professor leading the recall effort says the fight is far from over.

welcome back. it's 7:14. the fog ever present as we look at what is the golden gate bridge somewhere in there. looks like a foggy day ahead for parts of the city. outside lands, vianey arana says

some of us will be seeing sun today. she will be along in a bit with more on your forecast on a breezy saturday. and that live look at the golden gate bridge leads into our next story, which is the subject of what is shaping up to be an expensive lawsuit. it all started as a video stunt for social media. we do have the video, made by two people from wisconsin. the golden gate bridge district says the boys risked their own lives and others. now the bridge district is suing the boys so that they can't profit from this stunt. the suit doesn't specify just how much it's seeking in damages, but the goal is to discourage other would-be adventurers from using the golden gate bridge for social media stunts for attention or financial gain. back to outside lands, one of the most popular music festivals in california, it kicked off in golden gate park yesterday. a little hiccup last night. for the first night of the festival, quest had to postpone

their set until tonight. the rest of the night went well. >> reporter: the music is playing at outside lands. carlos drove up from southern california for this year's festival. >> the lineup is the best lineup for any of the festivals that i have seen. >> who are you looking forward to seeing. >> gorillaz. >> reporter: brad carried his 13-month-old son with a viable sign so friends could find them. 70,000 people are expected each day. he says entry was smooth. how was the security? >> easy. >> safety is always the number one priority. we are always working with local law enforcement to make sure we have the latest techniques and doing everything we can to keep everybody safe. >> reporter: inside, the music was pumping along with art, comedy, with more than 100 types of wines being served, 60 beers and over 80 local restaurants. >> knock on wood, our goal is to serve 3,000. >> reporter: ted wilson is with

fine and rare in san francisco and says that's how many crab rolls he hopes to sell in his second year here. how did he come up with the number? >> it's a crab-shut. you go up there with hope and you make good food, and people usually like to eat good food. >> reporter: many arrived using ride-sharing services, shuttles or public transportation. as the few neighborhood parking spots filled up fast, making parking nearly impossible. >> it's happy but the problem is finding parking. it's very hard. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. >> saw people freezing out there last night. vianey arana is here with a look at the weekend forecast. you say people will be seeing sun today, but it won't exactly be a sunny day. >> exactly. i have a temperature trend for outside lands today if you're heading out there. you may want to stick around for the forecast. we're expecting a little bit of

sun in inland spots. but the clouds will definitely linger into the afternoon. peninsula right now at 56 degrees. 62 for the south bay, and 58 degrees in the tri-valley. now, we will be slightly cooler today, and it's all thanks to the marine layer. but it will be similar to yesterday's temperatures, with about maybe a one or two degree difference. san francisco right now 55 degrees. 58 for the east bay. we might catch some coastal drizzle. if you are near the coast and start seeing drizzle, well, it's all thanks to the marine layer that you can see on the doppler radar hugging the coast and d p deepening. it should clear out by mid afternoon. let's talk about what you can expect for the next few hours. if you noticed, we keep the lingering forecast around, or the fog, until about 12:00. by 1:00 and 2:00, around lunch hour, we start to see it kind of maybe furthering away, burning off a bit. but areas like half moon bay

going to be chilly, cloudy and a little bit breezier. so the winds will pick up as well. then warmer inland spots like maybe oakland, hayward, palo alto will see a little bit more sunshine. by about 7:00 we start seeing the return of the marine layer. so we'll see the return of the dark clouds as you head into the evening hours, which means, yes, we'll wake up sunday morning to similar skies like we are right now. overlooking san francisco. let's look at the temperature trend. 62 degrees right now. a high, we reach it rather quickly. 61 degrees, 8:00 a.m. around midday, 66. by 2:00 we do hit our high of -- our expected high of about 67 degrees. if you're going to be outside in san francisco, expect to feel and see the breeze, especially with the trees. or if you are anywhere near the area for any of the events. san jose, 62. expecting a high of 69.

san jose will be one of the sunnier spots later today. it will climb into the upper 70s. overall the coast will remain on the darker, foggier side with the breezier conditions, also expect to see winds picking up further inland as well. livermore 84, concord, 87. if you're heading to outside lands music festival today, here is a check of what to expect. we'll keep the coastal fog through the early morning hours, but i think it will probably be your best bet to be the warmest at about 2:00, 3:00. we start to catch a break from the clouds at about 5:00 and 6:00. that's before the marine layer starts to roll in. it will be chilly out there. please make sure to bundle up and wear the appropriate gear so you can enjoy your time. >> over the next seven days we'll see a break in a little bit of the cloud cover on sunday, but the marine layer deepens and we have a system to the north that could bring the chance of some showers all the

way further up north. that's going to kick up the winds as we head into monday. then it's 66 degrees heading into wednesday. then look at the inland temps. thanks to the system, we start a cooling trend. we drop to 80 on monday. by tuesday and wednesday we start to see even cooler temps. 83 degrees. before we see a warmup thanks to some high pressure. much more ahead on "today in the bay." coming up, the winter olympics are less than six months away. next, we catch up with some local athletes who are tirelessly training to reach their olympic dreams. who are these people?

and bryce were engineered in the lab to be world class skiers. both come from skiing families. bryce's parents met while parking cars at squaw valley. both grew up on the slopes of squaw, developing a style that emphasizes fun as well as fast. and both know where they want to be in february. at the entrance to squaw valley there is a flame burning. one looking back on the 1960 winter olympics. but it is far from the only one burning here. >> keep going. >> reporter: there is one running up the snow-free mountainside right now and another alone in the gym. both looking forward to 2018. >> if you want to have success, you have to do the work. >> reporter: travis grew up skiing on this mountain and is a member of the u.s. alpine ski team. downhill.

good morning, thanks for join good saturday morning. it is 7:29. fog and clouds cover the embarcadero in san francisco. nothing new for a summer morning in august. we appreciate your joining us. i am kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at the microclimate forecast. you say some people will see the sun today. >> further inland spots will enjoy a little bit more sunshine. i think today the biggest difference from yesterday will be that the winds will pick up along the coast and even in some inland spots. walnut creek a little hazy. current temps along the ocean and inland spots looking similar

to each other. pacifica, 59. san jose, 62 degrees. if you notice, we are expecting to see a nice little temperature trend, trending upward. 62 in san jose. but by 1:00 we should top out nicely into the upper 70s in most spots. 80s in inland spots. san francisco also expected to climb into the 60s. but it will be picking up in terms of the winds. so i don't think today is going to be a very good beach day. i, of course, have a look at your temperature trend if you do plan to head to the beach. and a lot of events going around the area. i'll have a breakdown of saturday and a look ahead at the sunday day planner in about 15 minutes. police in rohnert park are warning residents about a registered sex offender who just moved into town. they're posting flyers saying the self-proclaimed downtown l.a. predator is their new neighbor. dan cilley is on probation for annoying a minor. the 33-year-old did not touch a child but videotaped children

child rape, molestation and sexual exploitation. police arrested bernworth and michael keller on july 31st. an alert passenger saw him texting with bernworth with sexually explicit messages about children. the target of a nationwide man hunt is headed to chicago for murder charges. andrew warren was arrested in san francisco. he waived arraignment yesterday to speed up his extradition back to illinois. warren was a financial officer in britton. earlier this week an associate professor at northwestern university also agreed to be extradited. the two are accused in last month's gruesome stabbing death of a hair stylist. the two surrendered after days on the run.

the court of appeals said the access to the people needed to be reopened immediately but it still is not. robert handa has more. >> reporter: the sheriff's department said it was okay to walk to martin's beach. the weather didn't entice other visitors but that will change as word spreads. christopher manchester runs the popular half moon bay kayak company. he is annoyed the gate is still up. he launched kayaks at the beach before the closure and is determined to do it again. >> that's like picking yosemite and not letting people in and saying it's yours and not letting others enjoy the beauty of the place. >> reporter: the surf rider foundation also expects a surge of visitors. they took the property owner to court after he closed the road in 2009. as we reported, a san mateo court ruled the closure violated the california coastal act and ordered the road reopened. a ruling an appeals court reaffirmed.

pour yourself a nice cup of coffee. it's a little cool and chilly out there. 62 degrees in the south bay right now. along the peninsula this is what we wake up to typically foggier conditions. that's exactly what we are seeing this morning, especially for san francisco. 55 degrees. we could catch some coastal drizzle within the next few hours. we have also got a system sitting to the north that could bring showers in farther north areas. we can actually see the marine layer hugging the coast, nice and tight. we have a bit of a cooling trend on the way. let's talk about what to expect for the next few hours. by 12:00, looking ahead, we start seeing some of the marine layer starting to burn off. unfortunately, though, if you planned to head out to areas like half moon bay, it looks like it's expected to stay fairly cloudy all day long and even breezy in spots. as we move forward until about maybe the 7:00 hour, we start to clear out by about 2:00 in most inland spots and catch a bit of sunshine. the valleys will be mostly in

the 80s. by 7:00 we see the return of this nice marine layer. and that's what's going to bring us early-morning fog tonight and also into tomorrow. let's talk about the half moon bay forecast. i wanted to pop it up because it won't be a good beach day but at about 11:00 a.m. we can expect windy conditions out there. definitely keep that in mind if you're heading out there. bring a jacket. no one will get into the water, but you would be surprised. look out for beach hazards near the coastline. today's forecast will be in the 60s along the coast, 67 for san francisco. 64 in half moon bay. livemore, 84. antioch, 86. south bay and areas like san jose topping out in the upper 70s at about 79 degrees. tomorrow we are expected slightly cooler than today. if you're heading to the sonoma county fair it will be nice and sunny, which is great because you'll be outside. you'll probably want to catch an

ice cream cone because it will be in the 80s. it will be one of the hotter spots today. if you're heading to outside lands, a different picture. in san francisco, expect to keep on the sweater all day long. you will catch breaks in the sunshine by 2:00. a high of 67 for san francisco. so still pack on some sunscreen because you could still see sun damage out there. saturday, bay and inland spots are cloudy area. partly clearing by about 12:00 and by 3:00 we see a nice combination of sun and clouds, warmer inland spots. a quick check of sunday. we start off overcast again with foggy conditions along the coast. by 12:00 we start to see clearing skies. we might clear out. a little bit nicer tomorrow and quicker than what we cleared out today. by 3:00 we'll expect a lot more sunshine in the area and slightly cooler temps over the next seven days. a check of the cooling trend on the way. sunday we're tracking a system that will bring a drop in the temperatures. mainly for inland spots but even

this danville office complex, three sisters, a nephew and a phone. >> this is ryan. >> reporter: are helping people battle cancer. >> the phone has been ringing off the hook. >> reporter: this family operation started ten years ago. and like many noble journeys it was born from tragedy. >> my husband, mike miller, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, fourth stage, back in 2003. >> reporter: while erin miller's husband mike began chemotherapy her sister dana began her own search for help. >> she combed through all the clinical trials in the united states looking for something. >> reporter: the family fund mi found mike a clinical trial that was in the philippines. the family helped the millers pay the mountain of travel expenses. >> he lived for 19 months and he was able to coach my daughter's tee ball team.

he got to do scouts with the boys and had time to create some great memories before finally passing away. >> reporter: inspired by the experience. dana founded the danville based non-profit cancer foundation to connect other cancer patients with specialized clinical trials. >> clinical trials give patients an opportunity to take advantage of the latest and greatest developmen developments. >> reporter: the sister run company helps to pay travel costs that kept many from pursuing the treatments. >> 50% or more of clinical trials fail not because the drugs don't work or the treatments don't work but because they never enroll enough patients. >> it was sad. >> reporter: the company paid for this palo alto teenager and her family to travel to philadelphia for a four-month clinical trial after chemotherapy failed to help her leukemia. >> i was like, oh my god,
