the country may be easing its rhetoric this morning. earlier this morning leader kim jong-un was briefed on his military plans to launch missiles into the water near guam. during an inspection of the strategic forces kim examined plans by the military for what they're calling an enveloping fire around the u.s. territory. but according to state tv he says he would watch for, quote, the foolish and stupid conduct, unquote, of american forces before making a decision to attack. a mother will say good-bye to daughters at san francisco international airport. she is being deported to mexico. >> pete suratos is live at sfo. that emotional farewell will take place there. pete, this is -- the trump administration enforcing the law. she feels certain groups are being targeted. >> reporter: good morning you to you, scott and laura. she understands this is an

enforcement of the current immigration law but does feel the trump administration may be targeting mexicans and as a result will have that emotional good-bye at sfo as she says good-bye to her daughters. we were the only cameras to capture her last full day with her family. you can imagine a lot running through her had head as we show her here at her oakland home with her family, with her daughters at this point. sanchez has lived in oakland for more than two decades after illegally crossing the border with her husband and one of their daughters. now since then she's had two more girls and a boy and the daughter she brought can stay because of daca. the son and two other daughters are citizens with one graduating from uc santa cruz. a special needs child staying behind. the 12-year-old son is going to mexico with them at least for the time being. sanchez, who was work iing at a nurse at oakland highland hospital has tried to seek legal standing for 15 years now and received two stays of

more fallout from this weekend's tragedy in charlottesville. >> that video of protesters tearing down a statue. this one was unsanctioned. several cities do plan to remove their statues legally. in virginia a man charged with driving his car into a crowd of protesters killing a woman will remain in jail as he awaits trial. james alex fields jr. appeared via videoconference in a charlottesville courtroom monday and a judge denied bond. here in the bay area things could get heated next weekend. alt-right leaders announced for plans ona5vkn8>@ google saturd. it will be held at charleston park in mountain view. we expect a counterprotests. protests planned august 26 and 27.

shot in the head by a passenger of another vehicle. the man was taken to the hospital in krcritical conditio. police shut down all southbound lanes to investigate. the alleged vehicle was a white sedan. no description of the driver or passenger as that investigation continues. still no motive on why someone shot five people during a vij it gil in the south bay. the crowd was gathered for victims of a car crash and that's when someone drove by and opened fire. everyone is expected to recover. san jose police spokesman says investigators are not ready to release details about the suspect. 5:08. san jose's airport looking at security just days after a dare delayed flights for hours. passengers had to be rescreened after checked bags that were supposed to go no a plane's cargo hold ended up inside terminal "a." now they are looking at more weak spots.

slowing as you get over the napa bridge. thank you very much, kari and mike. new this morning two people are dead and several others injured in the shooting in north hollywood. police say the shooting happened about 11:30. at least four people were hit by bullets. no word on their condition right now. no arrests and police are not saying what the motive behind the shooting was. 5:15. a man faces 30 years in prison for sexual assault. he pled no contest to 14 sexual assaults six of them violent according to prosecutors. he was accused of drugging victims to knock them out before he and other people sexually assaulted them. his lawyer says he entered a plea to avoid a life sentence. sentencing will will be october 6. voters head to polls in alabama. people there are choosing who will replace jeff sessions. sessions, of course, was a

four ceos decided to quit president trump's manufacturing council apid the growing backlash over the white nationalist fueled violence in virginia this weekend. intel ceo brian krzanich and under armour's kevin plank both announcing their departure last night following the move by merck ceo ken frazier yesterday morning. krzanich says has taken heat this winter from some of under armour's biggest stars including steph curry for his support of president trump. and toyota's future cars could be made partly from wood. researchers say a material made from wood pulp weighs one-fifth of steel and is five times stronger, although it is decades away from being commercially strike. it will be critical as automakers try to bring electric into the mainstream and lower weights means manufacturing won't need as many batteries to power the cars saving on cost.

summer. looking live at san francisco this morning as you get out the door. we did have some low clouds, the seven-day forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen and temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s, where we've been every morning, our temperatures have been holding steady and warming up into the mid-70s for the afternoon. so yesterday just a couple of degrees warmer like antioch will be up to 81 degrees. concord up to 80 and 79 today in napa. san francisco stays in the mid-60s. we'll have some mid-60s today in half moon bay. if you are planninging to go to the beach today, maybe going to santa cruz, we'll see the temperatures today only reaching the mid-60s so it will be cool out there on the boardwalk. make sure you have some long sleeves or a light jacket and if you're going to the north bay sonoma wine country nice and comfortable even after a cool start at 59 degrees at lunch time. we're at 71 degrees and upper 70s later on today.

we talked about what's happening in yosemite and another area of concern will be the potential of some thunderstorms or possibly some dry lightning with no rain, just the lightning coming out of the storm clouds. we'll see those temperatures in the upper 60s so that will work in the favor of the firefighters as we continue to monitor the progress of that wildfire near yosemite. our temperatures in san francisco stay in the upper 60s. we won't see as much drizzle and fog as we go to the end of the week. the inland area will start to heat up, upper 70s today, and up to 90 friday and start to bring those temperatures back down as we go to the weekend early next week. and mike starts us out looking at the maze. >> and the maze, the traffic flow is moving well and, in fact, green sensors all around the bay. away from the bay bridge though there is more traffic heading to the bay bridge. i'm hearing about a disabled vehicle reported eastbound 24 at 580. look at the traffic pattern.

the reserve apartment complex in san jose. you may recall hundreds of tenants took their fight to city is hall when the owner evicted them to build luxury apartments. after the threat of several lawsuits the city is working on providing compensation for some of the tenants who were evicted. it's 5:26 right now. california is stepping up the sanctuary city fight with the white house. announcinging a lawsuit against the justice department. president trump's administration has threatened to freeze funding in sanctuary cities. that puts $28 million in federal grants for california at risk. the attorney general says the state will not just stand by and do nothing. >> now the federal government is using the power of its size to bully local jurisdictions to do

you, laura and scott. the sheriff's office said this was an unintentional mistake and has since undone the re-tweet. a screen shot of the tweet in question. the agency's official twitter re-tweeted richard spencer who was live tweeting a right-to-life press conference, a white supremacist who is a co-founder of the alt-right movement and a backer of the protest in charlottesville, have a have a. the sherr ef's office sent out a follow-up tweet that said this was an accidental re-tweet and was in no way done intentionally. another said we're working it to take the re-tweet down. it's not showing up in our feed for us to delete. at least a few hundred people criticized the department on twitter, many believing the agency intentionally re-tweeted richard spencer to promote his views. the sheriff's office spokesperson told the east bay times this was not intentional, that he was reading up on recent is events trying to prepare for an upcoming white nationalist rally in berkeley. he clicked on the richard

robbing and killing a san francisco photographer at twin peaks last month say they are not guilty. authorities accuse fantasy dcuir and lamonte mims of shooting 71-year-old edward frieench on july 16th and stealing his camera. mims was a paroled felon charged with illegally possessing a gun. the victim's sister blamed the judge who released mims five days before the shooting. >> based on the facts, and the facts are very clear, he was a felon rested with guns and he should not have been allowed on the streets of san fran. >> public defender supported the score system that got mims released. evaluators are looking at his proef assessments to see what went wrong. the pair will be back in court friday. all right, folks. we just got this in to the newsroom. there we go ready to play. this is a fire in san jose and the reason why they closed the brunell road off ramp, you see

on the other side of the fence from the roadway itself the fire crews are still there and they have to block the off ramp because the crews are on the roadside of the fence and the fire is just across that. they're able to get the water over there to take care of it. no real slowing. the free throwway itself moves well past brunell so that is a good sign for your morning commute. over here in north 85 is not affect ed as far as that split goes and the transition. we track the breaking news for san jose. the reason they had to close that off ramp in the video. more from 680 up to a crash over on the shoulder. but this this is where we see focus early in the morning anyway. your typical slow section, maybe slower than you'd like, slower than normal as you travel through that portion of san jose up to 880. the rest of the bay moves very. metering lights are on but that's standard fare.

>> what to expect on the weekend. is it too early to take a peek? good answer. >> let's check in with kari, weekend weather. >> this may be the last weekend before school starts for some kids. enjoying some warmer temperature. we are looking at the inland valleys reaching into the upper 80s for saturday. 77 in the bay and 68 degrees for the coast. on sunday it's going to be also just as nice looking at some low 70s for the bay. the coast at 65 degrees and inland 84 degrees. so overall it will be a little bit cooler if you're going to napa valley this weekend, upper 80s on day and then you can see how our temperatures come down several degrees on sunday and looking at mostly sunny skies. if you want to hit the road heading to shasta lake, it's going to be 100 degrees. and in the upper 90s on sunday at least by sunday as you get ready to head home it will be in

good tuesday morning. it is 5:43. a cloudy start this morning and a touch on the cool side as we take a live look outside in san jose. let's go to the neighborhood of willow glen with lower 60s by 9:00. many more people up and out and we'll still have the most ly cloudy skies with highs today reaching the mid-70s that is cooler than where we should be for this time of year which is 82 degrees. we'll take a look at some warmer than average temperatures for the end of the week in about five minutes. and this this, again, that fire alongside highway 101, the reason why the off ramp is currently closed. fire crews are blocking the roadway and will track the traffic impact. >> thank you, kari and mike. it is 5:43. this morning you might be able to drink alcohol at cal games.

berkeley's athletic department is looking for ways to boost revenues. along with selling the naming rights to memorial stadium as well as cutting roster sizes and tearing down edwards stadium for new housinging. uc berkeley has hired a social work er to assess the needs of homeless in people's park. the "san francisco chronicle" says the social work started last month paying $92,000 a year. in june a homeless woman was charming with putting meth in a little boy's mouth. the university actually owns the park and is exploring the option of building student housing there instead. no surprise the homeless population at berkeley overall is on the rise. we looked up the numbers. in 2009 more than 300 sheltered homeless. 371 unsheltered. the number remains the same

today but overall has nearly doubled to 650. at 5:44 a fork lift driver is dead after a mishap with his machine on monday. that's the report from news 24 680.com this morning. it happened about 3:00 in lafayette at a construction site on avalon avenue. fire crews say he died after becoming entangled in the fork lift. cal osha is investigating. new this morning records from a south bay high school are requested in a civil case against harvard. the ivy league school is accused of discriminating against asians. the mercury news is reporting records from a high school in cupertino have been requested, one of four high schools already involved in the case. 80% of the student body is asian-american. vallejo is preparing to join new marijuana laws. city hall will update people on its recommendation to amend the

city codes. it's happening tonight at 6:30 at jfk library. 5:45. an east bay developer has plans for a large entertainment project in dublin called at dublin. 76 acres north of the 580 interchange. developers tell the east bay times it will include restaurants and a plaza, movie theater and housing. the plans are more heavy on entertainment than retail but there is a proposal for 700 housing units and possibly two hotels. >> more details now considering a bill that would give students a little more time. the bill was approved, 328, back in may. it delays school start time until after 8:30 in the morning. no word on when the asem play will actually vote on the bill. we all know teenagers like to sleep in. it could wreak havoc, getting kids up and out the door.

nice not having to blast the air conditioning for a little while but then we'll be turning it on as we get a look at the seven-day forecast further down the line in oakland today up to 67 degrees and 69 in san mateo. san francisco and the marina district at 62 degrees for the high temperature today and some upper 70s for much of the north bay. so as you're getting started this morning you see those clouds. be comfortable wearing long sleeves all day long when the winds pick up and the temperatures start to drop. if you're going hiking in the north bay or just enjoying some time out at some of the parks, it won't be starting out in the mid-50s, some patchy fog, about but clearing by 10:00. we do have live music. this is the last day of the

summer concert series and out there at the park the temperatures will be in the mid-60s. more clouds moving in by 7:00 and then by the time the music wraps up it will be in the lower 60s and then you're heading home in the 50s. we're looking at 60s in the forecast for san francisco as well, morning clouds and fog. inland areas will see the clouds for today and tomorrow but then mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures for the end of the workweek. mike has breaking news on the brush fire in san jose. kari wanted to make sure we see the closure in san jose and the brush fire, vegetation fire categorized as such. chp has closed down the off ramp from northbound 101 at brunell road. they're fighting the fire across the fence. this is on the other side from the roadway. they can get the fire out. back to the roadways and show you it is on the northbound 101
