inland areas. looking at the east bay, 54 and partly cloudy. patchy fog, too. high temperatures reaching the mid-80s in livermore. and san francisco today up to 65 degrees. we'll talk about those 70s in san jose and how it warms up as we go through the week coming up. mike starts us out with a traffic break in oakland. >> the aftermath of a traffic break. we had these vehicles, as you come southbound right at the coliseum. as you can see traffic flowing great here. we will check the sense,ors. there's a little bit of lag. it's been just about ten minutes since they conducted that break. the earlier crash had no injuries, cleared off to the shoulder there. i will take you all the way to the north bay. this closure for highway 1 right around salt point park between

jenner, way north. it will affect the locals because that is the major north/south connector. there's a fuel spill and an overturned tanker truck being addressed. back to you. >> thanks, mike. and that breaking news overnight, shots fired on i-880. >> what investigators are telling us right now, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. chp is still looking for the shooter. the call in to 911 explains the scene. accord iing to the call someone saw another person hanging out of a vehicle firing a gun at another car. this is all while had they were moving around 10:10 on 880 south of highway 92. the shooters ended up driving off. the victim's two young teens headed over to the hayward police department. their vehicle had been hit a

number of times. at least one of the windows was shot out. the young passenger was cut but not seriously, the driver okay. chp did shut down northbound 880 for a short time so investigators could collect evidence which we assumed included bullet casings. not clear what led up to that shooting. we put a map on your tv screen. last night's shooting was four miles south from the other shooting early monday morning. this was on southbound 880 a man driving the car was shot in the head and krcritically injured. it appears that shooting was sparked by road rage. 880 was shut down for most of the monday commute causing a lot of problems for people trying to get to work. reporting live here in hayward, bob redell, "today in the bay." early morning ba.a.r.t. riders, you might have a wrench thrown into your morning commute. transit leaders are considering

starting b.a.r.t. later every day. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live at the b.a.r.t. station in fremont and, kris, this could affect thousands of people. >> reporter: right. good morning to you, marcus and laura. if you ever had a remodel done on your home, you know it is really hard to live in a house where there's construction under way. it's the problem b.a.r.t.'s board of directors are trying to manage at this point. they need to do a system wide retrograde. at the same time they need to serve all of their commuters. delays the start time by one hour was already in the works. it wasn't set to start, though, until next year, 2018, and that was ahead of the seismic work on the transbay tube. now that board of directors may go to a 5:00 a.m. start late this year. b.a.r.t. estimates that would impact about 2,400 riders. believe it or not, though, that extra hour would nearly double the time mant nantz workers have to get onto and off the track to do their work. now riders would have to take buses, which we know can take a lot longer, or they might have

happened. >> kids were in there. >> very sad. the names of the victims are not being relessed at this time. an east bay husband and wife from mexico are scheduled to be deported tonight, this after losing their last battle to stay in the united states. maria mendoza sanchez received the call last night from senator dianne feinstein personally. federal immigration agents denied their last request for a stay. maria, her husband, and their 12-year-old son will fly from sfo to mexico tonight. their adult aged children will stay behind. the couple lived in the u.s. for near ly 25 years. we spoke with mendoza sanchez last night who says it has been a difficult time. >> i'm leaving tomorrow. there's nothing i can do. leaving the kids is the saddest.

good morning. i'm landon dowdy and here are today's top business headlines. wall street could see some gains as the opening bell today. it was a mixed session is for the markets yesterday. the dow extending its winning streak to three days while the nasdaq edged lower. you want to look for data on new home construction and last month's federal reserve meeting. the dow rose five points. the nasdaq slipping seven to 6333. meanwhile, the friendly skies will be very crowded over labor day weekend. an airline industry group is

francisco, even though i know in san francisco you are missing the sunshine. and we are starting out again once again this morning with some cloudy skies. temperatures as you step out the door. 63 degrees in san jose. 57 degrees in palo alto. and in santa rosa right now it's 54 degrees. the seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. we're going to start out in the south bay and looking at today's high temperatures in the south bay. san jose will be up to 79 degrees, lower 80s as you head into the south county. let's move over towards the east bay. in danville we'll be at 86 degrees. oakland 70 degrees. our temperatures hold steady. we're looking at the peninsula right now, belmont, today's high up it to 74 degrees. in san francisco outer sunset up to 66 degrees. a little bit warmer today. santa rosa up to 79. novato today 80 degrees. as you're looking out the window

let's get started in the closet this morning. a look at how to get ready with some long sleeves, you'll still be comfortable with that during the morning hours. you may break out the sandals. temperatures will be warming up just slightly above yesterday and wear something to keep you nice and comfortable. but it's definitely tennis shoes if you're going to hit the hikinging trails in the east bay. we will have some clouds during the morning. we'll start out in the upper 50s. mild temperatures at 10:00. this will had be the best time to get out there. and then we do make it into the low 80s today in the east bay and then the winds pick up later this evening. we are so excited to help clear the shelters this weekend. that is this saturday, so you should go ahead and make plans to clean up the backyard, get the house ready for a new pet as we will see on sunday -- or saturday in berkeley our temperatures will be in the low 60s to start, mostly cloudy skies, but then clearing up as we go throughout the day and we'll be out there live at the humane society. our temperatures in san francisco will be in the 60s

throughout the next several days. and it looks like we get a lot more sunshine for the inland areas. today we begin the warming trend into the low 80s and then some upper 80s by the end of the week. and mike has a crash. >> we zoom you in to santa ramone. this is affecting folks getting on to 680. it's affecting only the on ramp itself. folks are getting by. no major injuries. eastbound getting away from the bridge, there's a van on the shoulder, reports of a fire for that van. it's a frito-lay delivery van. we're looking at the maps with waze as well.

the blue down the freeway, the obvious choice. check your phone before you leave either this morning or throughout the day. click on your name, nbc bay area wazers. it's going to get crowded, guys. back to you. all new this morning the housing market in sonoma county is making big gains and continues to rebound from the recession. the press democrat is reporting the taxable property is at an all-time had high valued at $85 billion. that's 5% more than last year. we investigated overnight and at the height of the recession nearly half of all residential properties in sonoma county lost value, more than 62,000 properties. today just over 11,000 properties lost value. property value grew the most in the cities of clover dale last year. a follow-up on an east bay property developers -- a property developers have been

eyeing for years. it sits where a black angus restaurant caught fire earlier this year at the pleasant hill/walnut creek border on north main. in and out considered expanding next door. last week "the east bay time" reports developers submitted a proposal to demolish the black angus and build 60 town homes. they would have to rezone the area. so far they are reluctant to do so we have new details in a deadly fork lift accident. the coroner's office identified the victim as edwin zarate of livermore. he died after becoming entangled with the fork lift. 4:50. drinks could be served with movies. there are a few places in the bay area that already do that. the marin ij is reporting century theater wants to start serving beer and wine but the city has not signed off on that.

there's a hearing tomorrow afternoon at city hall. if you look at the sky you may see a helicopter crew at work. pg&e teams will be operating transmission tires in the san bruno mountain state park. it may be visible as far away as daly city. happening today one of my favorite stories is roller coaster day. it's national roller coaster day in several amusement parks arp the nation. plans to announce new rides. california's great america is among them. right now we don't know what kind of additions will be made. the park executives will make an announcement in santa clara at 11:00. >> you're a roller coaster fan? >> the high er, the faster the better. >> the anniversary of elvis' death today. we'll tell you what's happening in san francisco and why you may want to break out your own blue suede shoes. plus, happening now, new clues into the missing malaysian airliner newly discovered satellite photos are giving scientists fresh ideas of the

happening today some former oakland raiders will visit veterans. they will talk with people at the veterans home of california in yountville. another shake-up at cal, this time in the athletic department. the athletic director mike williams is stepping down. williams, who was a cal alum, will stay on the job until uc berkeley finds a replacement. he took over the job on an interim basis and was named the permanent athletic director in 2015. the move comes as the department is trying to cut expenses. some sports could be eliminated to help achieve that goal. 4:55. there may soon be new life for an old north berkeley theater. the oaks on so llano avenue clod in 2010. city leaders are working on a plan to convert that theater into a climbing gym. the company called touch stone climbing hopes to buy the property and submits application. touch stone operates 11 l
