up. >> built for 101 on the tri-valley. approaching the bay bridge, great travel times. just 17 minutes from highway 4 to the berkeley curve. we do have the bay bridge toll plaza cameras that show us we have the morning commute. fast track lanes are moving well. shots fired on a busy highway. >> the search for a suspect continues. northbound 880 just south of highway 92 in hayward. bob redell live where the investigation now stands this morning.

bob is in. >> reporter: are chp is still look iing for the shooter. a frightening scene here in hayward. the caller reported seeing someone out of the window of a car shooting into another moving vehicle around 10:10. just south of highway 92. the shooter ended up driving off. the driver and a passenger ended up heading over to the hayward police department. their vehicle had been hit a number of times and at least one of the windows shot out. the driver okay. chp did shut down northbound 880 for a short time. not clear what led up to the shooting. a map on up tv screen. you can see last night's shoot ing was about four miles south from the other shooting that

took place early this past monday morning on southbound 880 in san leandro. in that instance a man driving a car was shot in the head and critically injured. it appears that shooting was sparked by road rage. 880 was shut down for the commute causing a lot of headaches for people trying to get in to work that day. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you, bob. >> multiple bay area groups are planning a protest rally. the department did not mean to republish a video of an alt-right press conference. tensions continue to rise in the aftermath in charlottesville. the same groups are planning to rally here in the bay area. >> more local politicians are trying to put a stop to them. pete suratos joins us live in berkeley with that overnight development. good morning, meet.

>> reporter: you're getting a lot of out-of-towners coming to the area to take part. i did get a chance to look at those set to take place at mlk here in berkeley. pull up the facebook page. it appears they're trying to hold this event on sunday, august 27, here at the park. and in light of everything taking place berkeley mayor is completely against this event. the mayor's blog says, quote, i think residents understand the extremely difficult position berkeley finds itself in. made even more so by dealing with an amorphous group with no specific organizers. i want to reiterate we will not allow our community to be terrorized by a small band of white supremacists whose ideology of hate is a losing

one. berkeley is proud of its multiculturalism and diversity, and we will continue to stand y united against those who want to divide us. just across the bay bridge in san francisco another group called patriot prayer which describes itself on their facebook page as a group against big government and corruption has a permit for a rally on august 26. the park is a part of the golden gate recreation area and democratic leader nancy pelosi weighed in on this decision s saying, quote, i am deeply alarmed by the hateful and dangerous nature of the event. its timing so soon after the horrors in charlottesville and questions over whether the national park certificaservice equipped to ensure public safety during a white supremacist rally. now scott mentioned earlier in the show the alt-right march at google headquarters has been postponed by organizers due to threats by the opposition. that's what they're saying this morning. and that march was in response from an engineer putting out a controversial memo regarding

biological differences between male and female engineers. the mayor is still suggesting folks stay away from this area on that day. at 6:07, president trump continues to face harsh criticism on his response to the violence in charlottesville, virginia. he is attack. edward, not just democrats but republicans reacting to the president's comments. >> reporter: this is a shock for everyone, even those in the room on the president's staff. the president saying the counter pro-testers were also responsible for the violence that happened in charlottesville, virginia. the president's staff says that they did not know he was not expected to answer these questions.

(mike ad libs) 6:14 now on this wednesday morning as we look now in palo alto. my camera is frozen. i promise traffic is moving. let's check out the temperature trend for today and that will be moving. our temperatures are going up today into the mid-70s by early afternoon. cooler than our average high of 77. we'll be looking at some warmer temperatures in the forecast. more on that coming up in five minutes. >> we'll pull up the sensors. palo alto is moving well. so is your traffic out of san fran san fran.

>> thanks so much, kari and mike. it's approaching 6:15. silicon valley facebook cracking down on hate speech in the wake of the events in charlottesville. facebook says at least eight accounts have now been pulled from both facebook and instagram. facebook also pulled down links to an alt-right article slamming the woman who died in the charlottesville protest. a planned protest against google has apparently been postponed. >> this one predates the controversy. >> it does. criticizing google management over the way they handled diversity hiring. one of the organizers of this weekend's planned march, the same who has been sending out rumors about a pizza place in washington, posted this to the official website.

it doesn't mean the original organizer ended his calls for a protest this morning. one union leader has quit the president's business council over his reaction to racial violence. we could see more today as the president appears to have ended his attacks against his defectors. two companies have specifically said they're going to stay on the president's council. one makes greco baby seats to sharpie markers. stocks have generally been moving higher. the united states and north korea are backing away from confrontation. keep in mind the stock market is going up because we're not going to have a nuclear war. that's not a really good reason to invest. people logged on to movie pass, trouble handling the traffic.

78 degrees in sonoma. as we get a look at the forecast hit heading up to the hiking trails, it will be mostly cloudy throughout the morning, upper 50s. then at 10:00 as the skies clear we will have some temperatures in the mid-60s heading up to 81 by early afternoon and then the winds pick up by this evening as those temperatures start to drop. if you're going to hit the links at half moon bay expect more clearing by late morning and early afternoon with highs reaching the mid-60s there. mid-60s in san francisco into saturday. clearing the shelters and a close eye on this forecast for monday, the solar eclipse during the morning. it looks to be cloudy in san francisco while the inland areas will start to clear and we are in for some warmer temperatures over the next couple of days. and mike is now tracking a couple of small crashes. >> a couple of small crashes. no major ones. that's the good news and a

pleasant drive right now. san jose unified getting back in school. a huge school district will have a lot of pedestrian traffic getting used to the newer commutes the next week or two. south 680. a little bit of slowing at mission. that's the big mission cut at the fremont tum. there is a crash on the shoulder. a distraction. another crash still waiting it to find out from chp whether it's blocking lanes or not, this is north 101 up to 3rd. and that will affect folks heading into the city as well. waze, we'll show you traffic flowing into the city from the east bay and, look, see the green route, that's only three minutes roger than coming across the bay bridge, the purple route. you can compare these routes right now. compare it on your phone as well and make sure you join the team called nbc bay area wazers. that animation over my shoulder shows you how. remember, nbc bay area wazers. you have to select that team and i hope you do.

the commute will build and get more severe as the morning continues over to the side. i want to show you this one. it will be a problem unless you're taking the cut over. at 6:31, attorney general jeff sessions says they are in mo rush to file, in a brand-new interview with nbc news this morning sessions says it is not yet clear what exactly the charges will be. sessions does say the justice department is working intensely under the assumption that, quote, we may well might want to prosecute him.

in the bay." more breaking news out of hawaii where we are just getting word an army helicopter has gone down off of oahu. information saying five crew members were onboard that blackhawk helicopter. a search offshore. firefighters searching for the cause of a home fire. it started about noon at the golden wheel mobile home park. the victims are believed to be a grandfather, a granddaughter and her friend or relative. >> crying, you know, i cried because it's kids. >> very sad. the names of the victims are not being released at this time.

>> maria mendoza sanchez received a call last night from senator dianne feinstein personally. federal immigration agents denied their stay. they and their son will floi from sfo it to mexico city. their adult aged children are will stay behind. the couple has lived in the u.s. nearly 25 years. we spoke with mendoza sanchez last night who says it's been a difficult time. >> i'm leaving tomorrow. there's nothing i can do. leaving is not easy but leaving the kids is the saddest. >> an attorney says they plan to file one more stay request. senator dianne feinstein will ask the senate next month to

grant them permanent res didenc. >> it's 6:35 right now. authorities in the east bay trying to locate a carjack thief. police say it happened during a chase yesterday morning that started in martinez. the stolen car crashed into another car at contra costa boulevard and viking. the thief carjacked someone stuck in traffic. they found them unharmed. the driver took off foot. >> san francisco police trying to face a surge in car break-ins and they have some advice for anyone who is a victim. during the single week last month police say they received an average of 132 car burglary calls per day. police officers responded to those calls less than hatch the time. if you come back to your car and find windows shattered, it's not an emergency and you should not call 911 to report it.

a dublin interchange. we'll talk about your drive coming up. >> thank you, kari and mike. at 6:44 we are following breaking news this morning, live pictures from interstate 880 near highway 92 in hayward. for the second time in two days authorities are investigating a shooting on the freeway in that very area. on monday four miles north another shooting left a man critically injured after he was shot in the head. after last newt's shooting they were not hit by the gunfire. on monday night in the ueck lip tus grove, that's where the man was last seen walking away.

the woman was treated for head injuries. the two were arguing before the attack. recent crime reports in the police department's jurisdiction. there's been one weapons charge. new had this morning $20 million has been secured for a second garage at the dublin b.a.r.t. station. b.a.r.t. doesn't want the new garage. b.a.r.t.'s board seems to be interested in other plans like leasing parking from businesses near by. >> happening today a memorial is set for people killed during violence in virginia this past weekend. today in charlottesville theater people will be honored -- will honor the woman hit and killed

when the man drove his car into the crowd. honor two state officers who died when their helicopter crashed. it reads lives lost but not forgotten. crews removed four confederate statues overnight. a resolution calling for the immediate destruction of the monuments. we did some checking this morning. there are some 718 confederate monuments and statues across the country. still trying to process the comments on tuesday. >> scott mcgrew, the president reversingie ing himself. >> here is the president of the united states. wait a minute. i'm not finished. i'm not finished.

that was a horrible day. i will tell you something. i watched this closely, much more than you people watched it. you had a group on the other side that was also very violent and nobody wants to say that but i'll say it right now. >> trump's chief of staff general john kelly hung his head for most of the speech, arms crossed. they are shocked by the president's behavior. no one has ever quit over an ethical concern. the head of the ethics office quit but he wasn't in the inner circle. no one has ever quit on principle. the head of the marine corps tweeted this, no place for racial hatred or extremism in

tennessee. and weather looks good, too. another spectacular day and we're taking a live look outside from tiburon at 62 degrees. we are going to see the sun rise happening right now. and you can see the clouds settled in over the south bay. high temperatures today warmer than it was yesterday. concord heading up to 86 degrees. looking at 79 in san jose and the forecast is up it at the bottom of the screen showing some warmer temperatures on the way as we take a live look outside in san jose right now it is cloudy and want to make sure you don't forget the sunglasses.
