people's brake lights kicking in just north of 66 up past high street aroubltd bend. the map will show you it's up at 23rd just as you approach downtown oakland your left slain blocked by the crash and that's causing the distraction and slowing. sensors should read slow back to here but they have to update it. we westbound 580 is a good option for you. right now we're track the progress as chp approves. the rest of the bay moves pretty well. no drama south bay although there's that crash highway 17 near the cats. back to you. it is 6:01 and we continue to monitor breaking news in the east bay this morning. police in livermore investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting. police say a man set a mobile home on fire just before that shooting. pretty dramatic new video just into our newsroom this morning. today in the bay's pete suratos has been live at the scene since we came on air at 4:30 this morning. he joins us now with new information he's learned

overnight about what led up to this shoogt joog we're still here at the valley mobile home estates still an active scene. behind me you see the livermore police there. we're getting more daylight wro you can see where this took place on that block. we do know that the suspect was reportedly accing in an e-radek fashion even telling people to shoot. we were told he retreated into a mobile home when police arrived and then we show what you happened at that point and that cell phone video you guys are look at right now, we're being told the suspect decided to right there mobile home on fire. now akoirgd to the livermore police they said they tried to negotiate with this armed suspect even using a crisis negotiation officer for more than two hours and that started just before 9:00 p.m. last night. the suspect was said to be firing several shots from inside his home while make a suicidal statement. they said he paikd walked out of the home shortly after the fire was lit hold a shotgun and

that's when officers fired shots at him. we nope was pronounced dead on the scene and here's officers explaining why they fired shots at that man. >> still really early in the investigation to be able to tell what directions his rounds was going. they could hear the rounds being shot. we don't know where they were headed. we're still investigating that right now. >> reporter: fire crews put out the fire inside of that home and we're being told that no officers were injured. and police didn't locate anyone else inside of that home following this incident. we'll send you guys back out here live. you're seeing a lot of activity with livermore police on the scene. they're not identifying the officers involved in this incident and haven't realized the identity of the suspect, but as you can see here very active scene and this case is still under investigation. we're live in livermore, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> really interesting scene there. thank you, pete. in the meantime, more details re-we looked overnight and dug a little deeper into similar incidents in livermore. a police spokesperson told us he couldn't remember the last deadly police shooting but last

march there was an incident involve a suicidal man near the police station. eswraent wlil shot at officers from his car. one officer returned fire but police later determined the man actually died from a self-inflicted gunshot. 6:04, new this morning deputies are looking for a suspect just two blocks from link koon conhigh school in san jose. this all started after deputies pulled over a pickup truck on brooklyn near das com and san carlos around 2:00 this morning. after stopping that truck the driver took off run. they realized that truck was stolen and they're still looking for the suspect but they've taken down the perimeter in that neighborhood. this activity should not impact lincoln high school which opened yesterday. a san jose police officer is hurt after an overnight crash. this morning a lieutenant says that officer is in the hospital and in stable condition. but we just found out minutes ago that this was a hit-and-run and the suspect is on the run. authorities say the patrol car and another vehicle crash, this happened across the street from

mount pleasant high school around 1:20 this morning. we have reached out to sjpd to ask more about this crash. the undocumented oakland nurse, her hurs and their son are waking up in mexico this morning. they've been deported from this country after calling it home for more than two decades. ice is defending deporting maria mendoza sanchez and her husband saying their case has gone through is a lengthy review. a last minute intervention by senator dianne feinstein did not work. the couple and their 12-year-old son said about good-bye to the rest of the family last night at sfo. they're leaving behind three daughters ages 16, 21, and 23. >> even if it's not -- even if i'm not here for them to thrive when they come from school, for them to pick up about the frustration but i'm always on the other side and my heart is always here. >> i don't know when they're

going to be back. i just want us to be together. >> the older daughter will now raise the youngest daughter and take care of the family-owned home in oakland. at 6:06 more details now president trump promised to deport criminals but "the washington post" reports out of the 105,000 immigrants deported from january to june of this year, 42% of them had never commit ned crime and in january more than 9,300 criminals were deported. the number has been dropping. in june, 9,600 criminals were deported. now these numbers, however, are very similar to numbers last year under former president barack obama. and live to washington, d.c. this morning where president trump is facing growing criticism after saying both sides were responsible for the violence in charlottesville, virginia. this has thousands mourn the death of hearth heyer at a memorial in the city. >> he tweeted publicly seeking

trend for palo alto. just a few clouds throughout the morning, temperatures starting out in the mid-60s and making it into the upper 70s by early afternoon. we'll take a look at what you can expect across most of the bay area. that's coming up in five minutes. and, look, the taillights tell the tale, northbound jammed for 880 past the coliseum in downtown oakland. we'll show you how far and we'll talk about how you can get around it. 6:15. opponents of a south bay housing plan propose to pack a meeting tonight in san jose. city official -- city council members are debating a plan to create a community of so-called tiny houses for the homeless. one proposed location is the bear reesta neighborhood. people who oppose that site plan to show up at tonight's meet at the library. so far there's no timeline when the newousing community will be created. tim cook is the latest ceo to publicly criticize president trump's remarks about the

violence in charlottesville in an e-mail to apple employees he says the events in virginia were repulsive. he says apple will contribute $1 million each to the southern poverty law center and the antidefamation league and will match employee donations to those groups as well. apple will also enable itunes to let customers make donations. and it's more than just talk of money and talk, silicon valley is actually taking action this morning. >> we have a whole list of companies that are cracking down. >> good morning. starting with facebook, laura. facebook has been a vehicle for messages spread by white supremacists and neo-nazis and facebook has been removing some of that content. but like twitter it's come under criticism for not doing enough. mark zuckerberg posted his own message on facebook last night announcing his company would take further action writing it's a disgrace that we still need to say that neo-nazis and white supremacists are wrong as if this is somehow not obvious.

a group associated with mite white supremacists went on twitter to tell its supporters it's been kicked off pay poll. pal about the the group virginia dare said it had no part in planning the charlottesville rally. thedalea stoerm has finally found a home after both go daddy and google refused to host its domain. it's now on russian servers but it's not as well protected from hackers because sill sewn valley security company cloud flair dumped the daily stormer as a client. matthew prince is the ceo of cloud flair. he says in an e-mail to his employees he, quote, woke up in a bad mood and decided to kick them off the internet. in an e-mail first obtained by the blog giz moto, prince went on to say my rationale formaking this decision was simple, the people behind the daly stormer are extremely bad word and i have had enough. it's easy to get behind that sort of thing, right.

looking at san francisco west portal area we're at 61 degrees and mostly cloudy there. we will be warming up, take a look at these high temperatures today up to naet palo alto, 84 degrees in san jose, and some upper 80s for the inland area, from concord to antioch and livermore. and the seven-day forecast is now up at the bottom of the screen. it will be a little bit warmer for tomorrow and for those kids having the first day of school today, good luck to you. we are looking at a nice start to the day with probably -- we'll probably need some long sleeves, especially at recess today as you're out there playing, but maybe taking it off today at school. wraps up it will feel like summer out there and hitting up some of the hiking trails in the south bay or enjoying some time out at the park. it warms up quickly, it will be in the low 80s by this afternoon and some breezy winds this evening. and at half moon bay if you're going to be going koffeling there hitting the links it's going to be in the mid to upper 60s. at least you will get some sunshine today, something that's been missing over the past several days.

oakland, 80s in the north bay. we'll continue on with the same temperatures in the end land areas -- for the coast land areas. inlands will being heating up in the next couple of days. i'll talk about the weekend forecast in the next couple minutes. the nasty nimitz's look not knight nice. northbound ate eight stacked up taillights all the way past the coliseum. haguenberger creeping back now. the back up the slow sensors drag up to fifth street but i see now hell yellow sensors north the crash scene. what that usually means is that they've cleared the car and that traffic is starting to build up heading north thereof. i'll double check with chp had just arrived a few minutes ago pay the single vehicle blocking the fast but westbound 580 a much better drive getting over toward the bay bridge and the rest of your approach looks great with just mile slowing through berkeley, no major surprise.

it is northbound ate eight through oakland that's the big problem now. we'll watch to see if that ripples over towards the san mateo bridge guys. back to you. new this morning, concerns that the upcoming solar eclipse could impact the state's power grid and ultimately the electricity in your home. >> today, bob redell has been investigating the issue for several days. he joins us live at the in oakland with what he's learned so far. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. for astronomers here in oakland for the rest of us ordinary people here in the bay area monday's solar eclipse is going to be awe inspiring but for pg&rerksnd the independent service provide are which are provides electricity for utilities, monday's going to be a challenge about the we've been in touch with the iso for the past few weeks and they tell us that the solar eclipse will reduce solar production by 60% statewide. that's about 6,000 mega watts. that's enough power for 6 million homes and that power does need to be made up somehow.

for the past year the iso, the cpuc, and local utilities like pg&e have been planning how to mange for that lost energy production during the three hours that the moon starts to block out the sun. as a matter of fact, pg&e will be hold a news conference a few hours from now to detail those plans for example having to rely on other resources like hydropower which is able to ramp up quickly. the mercury news report under the palo alto the city manager is asking residents there to reduce electricity consumption during the eclipse to prevent the extra pro duks of greenhouse gasses has power plants turn on more lec tris sit toy it make up for that solar deficit. all right, bob, thank you for that. it is 6:33 right now. right now that demand for special glasses to view the solar eclipse is actually sky rocketing. they've still got them in most bay area stores, even sold out on amazon. this is a video of the mad rush at the science center, they even

ran out. but we're told they will have glasses for visitors planning to watch the eclipse from shah bow on monday. we'll have continuing coverage on the solar eclipse right here on nbc bay area. head to our website as well, nbcbayarea.com for the exact time you should be watching the skies. 6:34, new this morning take a look at that mug shot right here. concord police say they are looking for this man in connection with a bank robbery. he's been identified as 45-year-old david glover. he's accused of robbing the u.s. bank on willow pass road at port chicago highway yesterday afternoon. police were already looking for glover before the bank robbery in connection with another case. and happening today, a assistant an cruz family who lost their loved one in a deadly crash off highway 17 is expected to announce a settlement in their wrongful death suit. danny mcgwire was killed back in 2014 when an out of control big rig started a multiple car crash. his family sued the trucking company tied to that crash alleging that the truck driver was inadequately trained.

the incident also inspired new legislation. today's news conference is schedule for 11:00 a.m. it is 6:34. the investigation continues this morning into a deadly fire in san jose that took the life of this little girl, she was killed when flames tore through a mobile home on tuesday. this morning a memorial continues to grow at the site of the fire inside the golden wheel mobile home park right off of 880. cell phone video shows that fiery scene it was part of breaking news coverage on tuesday night. makes say they heard a loud pop and in less than ten minutes the home was gone. >> one lady who say saw it, she was in great shock when she heard the boom sound, she looked up through her window and saw a man engulfed in fwhier was collapsing. >> atf agents are on-site investigating along with accelerate sniffing dogs. some startling new information about the number of people who are driving while

distracted. >> this morning we've learned that even though more people are driving while using their cell phones, fewer people are actually being cited for it. today in the bay's kris sanchez live at the dumbarton bridge this morning what you may want to stay to your family has arizona they head out to school or work or even yourself it's a about goode reminder. >> i know down the have teenage drivers at home but for those of you that do, remind them of the dangers of distracted driving. ask them to put those phones in the glove box maybe this morning because by their own admission they're the ones most likely to drive distracted. however, across the board we dug up statistics from the office of traffic safety and they show that neither teenagers nor the rest us are likely to get a ticket for distracted driving. in 2015, the latest statistics available california law enforcement only issued 476,000 tickets and i say only because there are more than 25 million licensed drivers in our state. a assistant april clara county

the offrarch and southbound 280. we had been following the crash if you remember 92 alt 280. once chp got on scene they said it's over here and there's not major injuries but there's a lot of activity. the off-ramp at bunker hill has been closed and you see the traffic starting to slow just a little bit put cannot make it through there. now, over on the other side of the bay northbound 880, that crash cleared and look how quickly we go from the red zone below 20 up into the 40s and 50s northbound 880 recovering from the approach to the coliseum out of san leandro, san lorenzo up to oakland that will be a tough dry drive as well. west downed 580 still a good option four. ten minutes difference in drive times. it's friday eve. >> weekend's right around the corner. >> can almost see it, yes, we can. and we're planning for some of the kids heading back to school, enjoying the weekend or if this maybe the last weekend before

high school. happened about 1:20 this morning. the officer was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. deputies are searching for a suspect this morning in an area just two blocks from lincoln high school in san jose. deputies pulled over a pickup truck on brooklyn around 2:00 this morning. after stopping that truck, the driver took off running. the deputies realized that truck was stole and he they're now looking for that suspect. deputies say this should not impact lincoln high school which just started clagss yesterday. 6:57, an undocumented oakland nurse is waking up in mexico this morning with her husband and their son. ice deported them from the country late last night. maria mendoza sanchez as well as her husband and son who is a u.s. citizen said good-bye to the rest of their family at sfo. last minute intervention by senator dianne feinstein was not enough to stop them from being deported. they leave behind three daughters, the youngest 16 years old. and we're live at the science center in oakland this morning and if you're looking for special glasses to see
