good morning and thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. we have team coverage on this story from the overnight procession to the breaking details. this coming in to our newsroom. >> let's start with "today in the bay's" damian trujillo who broke this story on twitter this morning live at the scene with what we're learning just moments ago. damian? >> reporter: good morning. this is still an active crime scene in japan town. the last half hour or so the crime investigations unit has left the scene. blocked off between 7th street in downtown san jose. across the street from the gordon biersch brewery, not the restaurant and bar but the brewery, in japan town. here is the information we have. police are not confirming or saying anything official about the profession of the victims but sources tell me they were, in fact, off-duty oakland firefighters.
5:01 am
they attended a weekly festival with other fire tighters. when they walked out, they were con fronted by a man with a gun. it's unclear if words were exchanged or what the circumstances were before the shooting. police say the suspect then took off after he fired at least two rounds. then a short pursuit through the streets of japan town. >> we don't know if there are others or other details. we're searching the neighborhood to make sure there are not other people associated with this event. that search is ongoing. >> reporter: and, again, to recap, one off-duty oakland firefighter is dead. another is at the hospital. one man is being questioned about the shooting. i am told these were relatively young firefighters, just recently out of the academy. now the oakland fire department no doubt is in mourning over

vehicles and oakland fire vehicles as well. now we do know that as damian reported the firefighter here has very serious injuries and that his fellow firefighter, a young graduate, did not make it after the shooting last night. a san jose police officer did tell me he would not expect any of the oakland firefighters here tonight or this morning to have much to say. we certainly want to respect their space in this very difficult time for their department, but if they change their mind, if they have anything they want to share with the community we will pass that along to you. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> our coverage does not stop here, damian trujillo broke this story on twitter as we mentioned. he will continue to post updates throughout the morning. you can follow him @newsdamian. more breaking news now. we're taking you live to barcelona where we're learning another victim of the horrific terror attacks died. the latest is said to be a woman injured in the second attack that occurred in cambrils.
