♪ a very good now wednesday morning to you. taking a live look outside overlooking downtown san jose. a nice start halfway through your-week-old. not a bad way to start. good morning. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm marcus washington. good morning to you all as we start this day bright and early -- or dark and early. >> the sun will emerge. >> it will. it's going to be a much more sunny day though we do start out with clouds and fog along the coast and in san francisco. we will have some warmer temperatures. the south bay up to 90 in gilroy. we're going to see hayward up to

90 degrees. 68 in the mission district. the north bay looking at highs in some spots up to 90 degrees. it will be hotter today. vianey is in for mike tracking the roads. it looks like an rv crashed into the toll booth plaza overnight at 1:30 a.m. and actually chp issued a travel advisory because they have several toll booth lanes closed. they only have three and five closed which means this could still affect the early morning commute. the speed sensors aren't picking up any major slowing but that could change. pete is live at the scene. pete? >> reporter: good morning to you, vianey. just to piggyback on that information you were telling our viewers lanes three and five are closed and i just spoke to chp and also the golden gate bridge.

they've been telling me lane three is typically closed but lane five is the lane that will affect drivers as they head into san francisco from the marin side. according to chp they're saying the car or this rv crashed into lane five at about 9:15 p.m. and no word what led to the crash. the driver did suffer a leg injury. according to the security officer i spoke to on the ground saying that lane five will be affected. we're not going to see any of those issues until 8:00 a.m. they want to wait until the commute is over. pete suratos for "today in the bay."

>> 4:32 right now. an east bay main hailed a hero after the victim or a victim saved her from being sexually assaulted at stockton avenue and balra avenue blocks away from el cerrito high school. brett says he heard the woman screaming outside his window. >> she was walking and out of nowhere he came behind and put his hand over her mouth and said if you say anything, i'm going to kill you. >> guest says he managed to chase the man away. the suspect was never found. investigators are trying to track down surveillance video. police say his father abducted the boy after he shot and killed

the boy's mother. the father was killed with los angeles police officers last night. the debate is heating up over saturday's rally in san francisco. we don't know if they will be granted a permit to take place. it is scheduled for chrissy field but the national park service has yet to decide whether it will happen. >> i would hope that if people turn out we have followed the example of boston where the silence was deafening. >> and the group says the rally is to celebrate a day of freedom with the first group of speakers. mayor ed lee is asking protesters to avoid the confrontation and a demonstration at the civic center instead. tensions are running high in berkeley. >> you are the fastest. >> we're the fastest.

>> this is a little taste of what could happen this sunday if an unpermitted far-right rally takes place. that argument between conservatives and liberals sparked yesterday as lawmakers were trying to urge both sides to be peaceful. a far right group is planning a no marxist rally at the civic center park. and happening today a generous gift from a san jose family who is grieving after a mobile home fire. >> you probably recall the fire at the mobile park that happened about a week ago. a 10-year-old girl who lived there died in the fire along with her friend and an uncle. today city leaders will announce a new mobile home for the family. and coming up, federal regulators are looking into luxury real estate transactions that could be more a money laundering scheme. which county's investigators.

and new this morning federal regulators are expanding their search into who is buying luxury real estate in certain parts of the country and includes bay area counties. investigators believe some of the purchases were used as money

laundering schemes talking about a shell company with offshore accounts that pay cash for those properties. we investigated overnight in santa clara, san francisco, san mateo, los angeles, and san diego county, properties that are under investigation. regulators are looking at properties in new york city. coming up, kari is tracking your wednesday forecast. >> looks pretty good as you get ready to head out the door in palo alto right now. things are rolling with some clear visibility and our temperature trend starts out in the low 60s at 8:00 this morning heading into the upper 70s today. another nice day but warming up in some spots. we'll talk about what to expect up next. and we're continuing to follow that breaking news from golden gate bridge after a crash at the toll plaza looks like there are some lanes still closed. it's not affecting your morning commute just yet. an accident in richmond may affect the next couple of hours. and still ahead governor brown signs california's newly extended cap and trade program

the prospect for tax reform one of the main catalysts following last year's election. the dow posting its best day since april of 196 points. the nasdaq rising 84 to 6297. walmart is teaming up with google to offer hundreds of thousands of items through google assistance, compete with amazon and an echo device. the new shopping capability will be available in late september. this is google's biggest retail partnership. and apple is scaling back plans to build a self-driving car. reports say the company will focus on technology instead and is working on a self-driving shuttle to ferry employees between its offices in silicon valley. issues by the sheer size of the project and the lack of a clear vision for the product. back over to you.

>> keep driving for now. we'll get to that morning commute in just a moment. vianey in early for mike. first a look at the forecast. >> it looks pretty good today. it's going to be warmer where in some parts of the bay area, the valleys, you'll have to turn on the air conditioning. we start out with nice cool weather, open up the windows, let the house cool down before the temperatures heat up. we will start out at 63 degrees in the south bay and peninsula. a few clouds here and there. you can see the clouds in san francisco. low visibility in some spots especially near the ground we're looking good and the seven-day forecast we will have some more of those 90s popping up here today for our high temperatures. napa up to 86 degrees. we'll be up to 67 at half moon bay. san francisco, 68 degrees. and then san jose, 84. as we look out the window now you're getting ready for the day. let's start out with what to wear. i love my big hat, something to

give me some shade. a great day for that. also some nice shoes that will keep you cool as well. a look at temperatures and how they trend, we will be in the mid-60s throughout much of the morning and then look at noon, still nice and comfortable but then start to warm up by 4:00 with a light wind. we'll be up to 82 and cooling off nicely as soon as the sun sets this evening. if you are planning to head to santa cruz it's going to be a really nice day with our temperatures there generally reaching into the low 70s but we will for most of the day be in the 60s with mostly sunny skies and then also a warmer day in the tri-valley. if you're going golfing there, make sure you're out there early because our temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s for this afternoon. it looks good through at least noontime with our temperatures there at 78 degrees. san francisco will be reaching into the upper 60s over the next few days. a couple days with some low 70s. that's sunday and monday. that would be the warmest day in

the forecast for the inland areas reaching into the mid-90s for the weekend. so get ready for some higher heat especially in parts of the north bay and the tri-valley. i'll have more on that. vianey keeps us up to date on what's happening on the roads. >> and we're still looking into the accident that happened along golden gate at the toll plaza with the rv that crashed overnight. a quick reminder, toll booth lanes three and five are expected to remain closed as they continue to clean up that area. right now we're not expecting any delays because there's a little bit of traffic. at 7:00, 8:00 a.m. it should be peak hours. if you can take extra time out there. another accident we're following that is already starting to cause major delays is along westbound 80 at central avenue. it looks like several lanes are blocked and our speed sensors are picking up delays in that area. and overall looks like the rest of the bay area is looking pretty good and, yes, we're seeing slowing due to the crash westbound 80 to the bay bridge

with about a 31-minute delay. back to you. 4:46. happening today the teenager accused of killing 8-year-old matty millson of santa cruz is back in court to determine whether adrian gonzalez will be tried as an adult. investigators say gonzalez, who is now 17, sexually assaulted and killed middleton in 2015 and then hid her body. gonzalez has pled not guilty. the current hearing is expected to last a week. california's cap and trade program is bringing in a lot of money. the program requires companies to buy permits to release greenhouse gases. this month all of the permits offered were bought by companies to a tune of $640 million. experts say that's a strong showing. part of that money will be to build the new high speed rail. a new audit shows the university of california is not following its own policies when hiring contract service workers. they are supposed to not hire

contractors in place of uc employees. the new report says administrators are failing to make sure that happens. the audit also finds campuses are not consistently using competitive bidding for contracts. this comes after an audit in april showed uc president's office failed to disclose $175 million. 4:48. bay area lawmakers fight for ocean sanctuaries protected by former presidents but now under review by president trump. the president wants to see if the sanctuaries can be opened to oil and gas drilling. the sanctuaries are from point arena in the north to monterey bay in the south. this morning congress member nancy pelosi and hoffman will talk about protecting the sanctuaries. at 4:48 how hard is it to spell shakespeare. it proved a tough one for a university. why school officials say they meant to do it that way.

first happening now, breaking news out of yemen. security officials say an air strike hit a small hotel killing dozens of people. the air strike was led by a saudi coalition. no word on why the coalition jets targeted the hotel. plus, delays for commuters in new york and new jersey this morning. an empty transit trail. the conductor was the only person onboard. no injuries reported. riders could see a 20-minute delay this morning. we will be back with more news.

at the toll plaza, an rv ran into the toll plaza causing problems. the third and five lanes are closed this morning. traffic will pick up about 7:00 or 8:00 this morning. that's probably when you'll find the backup happening there. 4:52 right now. the oakland man accused of offering support to isis is expected to be arraigned in court. >> he apparently told an undercover agent he had plans to bomb uc berkeley and target gay clubs in san francisco. he was indicted on terrorism charges last week. leaders are expected to take a look at the county program that releases low-risk inmates while they await trial. that program has come under scrutiny after an inmate was involved in twin peaks.

mims and an accomplice robbed and killed a photographer last month. he was awaiting trial on a burglary charge. happening today on the san francisco bay, major coast guard training exercise between treasure island and angel island until 5:00 tonight. you'll see a lot of coast guard vessels and a navy helicopter flying around. don't be too alarmed. 4:53. happening today alameda county wants your input on its master bike and pedestrian plan. this particular plan is for the unincorporated areas of the county here in the shaded portion of your map. overnight we did some digging into the county's plan and right now there are nearly 42 miles of existing bike paths in the unincorporated areas. can you spell shakespeare? >> apparently it's a tough one

for usc in southern california. a new statue of the queen of troy was unveiled last week at the campus' new $700 million development that is attributed to shakespeare's "hamlet." except the playwright's name missing the "e" at the end there. ucla tweeted out the error. usc says to "e" or not to "e," that is the question. pretty clever. shakespeare had his named spelled in a variety of rains. they settled on the 18th century spelling to match the feel. >> i think they can get away with that one. >> 4:54. a look at the forecast with kari. you were saying get out the big hat? >> you'll need some shade. we'll have a lot of sunshine as

we take a live look outside in san jose this morning. we are going to check out the temperature trend for willow glen. in the mid-60s during the morning and then at noontime we're going to feel those temperatures in the mid-70s today, still really nice. some parts of the bay area will have really hot temperatures. we have some good news out of richmond. chp is now reporting all lanes are now open along westbound 80 at central avenue. that was a crash involving what looked like a roll over. originally three or four lanes were blocked. traffic is recovering quite nicely. we will have an update on the crash. breaking news this morning, a sheriff's deputy is dead. a series of events that led up to his death. and taking a look now, as you see right here, san jose dark and early this morning. you're watching "today in the

tremont. a beautiful morning. getting the day started. hump day wednesday. thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. halfway through our workweek and edging towards the weekend. a warm one expected today. >> it's going to be a hot weekend. i'm planning to go to the beach. we'll be blasting the air over the next couple of days and that trend starts today. it will be warmer. it is 63 degrees in san jose and palo alto. nice and cool there. what it looks like, mostly cloudy start. as you make plans, we'll still have clouds in the mix at 8:00 a.m. then some sunshine for the rest of the day and quickly warming temperatures.

what's happening at the golden gate bridge? we started off with a rough morning on the golden gate bridge. an rv did hit the toll plaza there and it looks like lanes three and five remain closed which means, yes, it could cause some issues later on during the morning commute especially around the 7:00, 8:00 a.m. hour. may be giving us updates later on. an update on the crash along westbound 80 at central avenue. all lanes have now reopened and we are still seeing a roll over crash. a good look at the bay area. looks like everyone else is doing okay. we hope it stays that way. back to you. >> thank you, vianey. a lake county sheriff's deputy has died. >> the department says he suffered a medical emergency before crashing his patrol car.

deputies say he crashed into a tree on hartley road. he was leaving a crime scene last night. the department says rum felled started his career in law enforcement in lake county in 1997. they say he was also an assistant football coach at clear lake high school. we reached out to them. a rare crime in contra costa county commute. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live. bob, details are slim but what do we know about this right now? >> homicides on the 500 block here if you're not familiar with the area this is a two-lane road that runs through farmland. according to a tweet put out around 9:40 the contra costa county
