90. heading over to vianey now, an update as you head to the golden gate bridge. >> at the golden gate, what we were telling you about involving an rv that hit the toll plaza, far a smooth commute which is pretty good. as the traffic begins to pick up take some extra time if this is your early morning commute. head on out early and chp did issue a fog advisory in the area. i'll tell you more coming up in 15 minutes. >> thank you very much, vianey. and we continue to monitor breaking news this hour. a lake county sheriff's deputy is dead after suffering a medical emergency and crashing his patrol car.

>> rob rum felled crashed in a tree on hartley street north of 20th. he was leaving a crime scene last night. he started in lake county back in 1997. we've reached out to ask what that medical emergency was. when they get back to us we'll let you know. a rare crime in a small contra costa county community. >> bob redell live in byron digging for answers after a homicide was reported. we don't do a lot of reports from byron, bob. >> reporter: we believe that a homicide took place roughly around the 500 block of camino diablo. this is a two-lane road, a rural part of the area that runs between farmland. now according to a tweet put out around 9:40 last night the contra costa county sheriff's office says it is working this case and will be providing more

this morning. president donald trump on the attack going after the media and criticizing democrats. even criticizing arizona senator john mccain. >> "today in the bay's" edward lawrence live with what happened and what could happen today as the president gets ready to speak at a conference in reno. >> reporter: the president will speak this morning in reno. the president, we saw, scripted on monday where we saw the rally was an unscripted president lashing out at everyone. before, during and after president trump spoke at an arizona rally. during a speech the president unscripted blasted the media criticizing the controversy following the president's comments about violence in charlottesville.

president may not be competent enough to effectively lead this country. and four people were arrested in the anti-trump protest. there were no injuries. back to you, marcus, laura. it is 6:07. b.a.r.t. says entrances to the civic station has been closed for good. one has been closed after a sue drain pipe collapsed. that's near market. now officials say that entrance and possibly others may be permanently shut down. other access points. b.a.r.t. says it's still working on its time line. even though the tri-valley is clear, it is now 59 degrees. we are seeing clouds over san jose. it's 63 degrees there and 56 degrees now in san francisco

with those low clouds to start. as we look at san jose let's back up the temperature trend today. it will be nice and comfortable throughout the morning, into the upper 70s by noon. low 80s, eventually hitting 84 degrees. warmer than it was yesterday but still comfortably warm and then we'll have some hot temperatures for the inland valleys. i'll talk about that in a few minutes. vianey has a look at the early morning commute for drivers. >> kari, we have a couple of trouble spots. traffic is picking up and so are the accidents. a crash at san pablo dam road. a lane is blocked. major delays out of that area. speed sensors are showing heavy, heavy backups. chp hasn't given an estimated time when they will clear that lane out. there's also a stalled vehicle on westbound 80. it appears the second lane is blocked and that is causing some delays in that area.

it's 6:12. a live look outside in fremont. we will see these clouds for a little while longer. as we check out the temperature trend we will have some sunshine all clear by 10:00. temperatures in the upper 60s. it does warm up quickly. in the low 80s by early afternoon. our temperatures continue to go up and that will be the trend for the weekend. i'll have more on that coming up at 6:17. and the bay bridge metering lights are stop and go. they have been off since 5:25

this morning. you will want to head out now if that's your early morning commute. thank you very much. 6:13. new this morning still be months away until highway 1 reopens, that's word from the marin ij. the road will stay closed until october 20. the initial projection was the road would reopen in september. record rainfall this past winter caused damage along the coastal highway. senator dianne feinstein says that the key focus is countering the climate change. the republican senator from nevada are co-writing the bill. it authorizes $450 million in federal money for projects aim at lake water clearing.

we found information aboutcally mat change already impacting lake. two major factors are rising temperatures and less snow. uc davis researchers say that warmer temperatures are facilitating algae growth. in 1910 a uc davis report says precipitation tahoe was snow. in 2016 it was 33%. time for a new suit. >> scott mcgrew joins us now. not something you would want to wear to a business meeting. >> it would look great in space. musk showed up in this, the new space suit, in an instagram post this morning. he says more details will be veld in the next few days. this is a pressure suit. it's used for launch or landing.

one of the people accused of that huge yahoo! hack. person was caught in canada, just brought back to northern california. the u.s. attorney for the northern district tells me he will go before a u.s. magistrate at 9:30. the fbi says a hacker for hire and may be connected to foreign governments. apparently drew their attention. the stock market rallied tuesday on hopes that washington could pass tax reform. september is never a good month for stocks. samsung shows off its new galaxy 8. this replaces the note 7 which was recalled because so many of them caught fire.

we don't have any clouds here this morning. and it will heat up quickly. it is patchy fog. we'll have some drizzle, too. and low clouds settled over the south bay as we take a live look from mt. hamilton and the seven-day forecast from the south bay at the bottom of the screen. up to 90 degrees in gilroy while milpitas up to 84 degrees for the east bay looking at some upper 80s to lower 90s there. in pleasanton up to 89 degrees. a high of 72 degrees. the peninsula in the upper 70s in palo alto and san francisco in the mission district 68 with more sunshine. napa looking at a high of 86 degrees. if you're making trips or making a plan to head to santa cruz heading over the summit it will be partly toly cloudy throughout much of the morning.

nothing but clear skies. we know how nice it is once we get that clearing. temperatures in the low 70s. maybe you can't go to the beach today or getting the kids out to school. a comfortable walk or drive heading to school this morning and then at recess they'll see more sunshine, warming temperatures am they may be taking off the jackets. at 1:00 it will be reaching into the 70s and 80s for the inland areas. and then after school is out, maybe you'll want to head to at&t park. a nice day. we have an early afternoon game and it's going to be in the lower 60s, partly to mostly cloudy skies today. and the san francisco zoo will be free today. if you don't have school today san francisco residents can enjoy the day, free admission, and temperatures reaching into the mid-60s. you know with that sun peeking in and out of the clouds it could warm up and cool down within minutes. we'll be in the upper 60s throughout next several days in

san francisco. inland areas go from 88 degrees today to some mid-90s this weekend. yeah, that's what i was talking about, those vineyards are really going to be hot in the north bay and the tri-valley this weekend. and, vianey, you're tracking some of the slow spots starting to build out there on the roads. >> slow spots indeed. you can tell we're going into the 6:00 a.m. hour because that's what we start seeing a lot more slowing and, yes, a lot more accidents out there. it looks like we're still going to see a lot of major delays. there is a crash along westbound -- southbound actually 880. looks like a couple lanes are blocked. there is a crash the westbound side and the southbound side and also in westbound 80 there is a lane currently blocked. and look at all of this heavy delay. a lot of backup in the area. i think somebody sent me a tweet saying they're caught up in that. it's been that way for at least an hour now and then of course

6:23. important health news about the leading cause of death among adults over 40. more than 350,000 people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest each year also without warning and more than 90% don't survive. new research is helping predict who is at risk and stopping before it strikes. now doctors have found a possible solution using an ekg. it's an inexpensive test that has been around for more than 100 years. >> we're looking at six data points ranging from the heart beat to electrical activity recorded from the heart. >> now the goal is to get that risk score included on every ekg and then implement high-risk patients with a defibrillator that shocks the heart back to normal. new this morning if you're in the market for a new car you

might want to buy a used electric car according to a new report just released by aaa. it found they are cheaper than nonelectric cars when it comes to maintenance. they're more expensive to buy right off the lot and lose value much faster. aaa says your best bet is buying a used electric car. and new this morning we're learning mileage can make a big impact on how much you pay for auto insurance. a new study found drivers who increased their annual miles from 5,000 to 20,000 saw a rate increase of about 9%. it also found that the amount varies considerably depending on where you live. we investigated overnight how much it costs you in california and we found increasing your mileage from 5,000 to 20,000 caused a premium increase of more than 25%. today is the day lottery fever sweeping the bay area and really the nation ahead of tonight's powerball drawing. >> it's the second highest

forecast. inland making it into the mid-90s and we'll talk just about the weekend. vianey's tracking slowing as you head out there on the roads. >> a trouble spot, kari. right nowing a look at richmond, seeing some major delays. now two additional crashes that may involve vehicles. it looks like that will take a while to. now having to deal with two additional accidents in the area so keep that in mind. that's showing some delays in the area.

and of course lanes blocked along southbound 880 near the hayward area. we're start to go see a lot of flare-ups in traffic. 6:32. happening now traffic issues on the golden gate bridge. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live at the toll plaza with details of a late-night accident still creating some problems this morning. good morning, pete. >> reporter: an rv crash on the golden gate bridge. now the issue was at lane five. so lane five will be closed as well as lane three. when i spoke to security they said lane three is typically closed so the issue right now is lane five. let's show you some video from overnight. according to the security i spoke to on site they're saying the crash took place just before 9:00 p.m. chp is investigating the cause of the crash. still don't know exactly why the

driver crashed into this lane. a report the driver did suffer a leg injury. we did do some digging to see if there were similar incidents like this on the golden gate bridge. an rv crashed in a toll booth in the same spot just a few weeks ago. this happened during the daytime with the door of the rv ripping off. there were no serious injuries to report. the bridge will soon be moving forward on replacing with a sleeker, taller toll gantry to prevent these crashes. back out here live you see the traffic starting to pick up or the commute picking up. security tells me that traffic could pick up at 8:00 a.m. and following the commute hours when they'll get to work on the damage from the crash. live at the golden gate bridge, pete suratos, "today in the bay." >> thank you, pete. >> you can track traffic conditions on the golden gate bridge and across the area

anytime, anywhere, and free at nbc bay area. 6:34 am an east bay man is being hailed a hero this morning. police say he saved a woman from being sexually assaulted. it happened in the area of stockton avenue and balra drive in el cerrito just a few blocks in el cerrito high school. we spoke exclusively with a man who jumped into action. guest says he heard a woman screaming outside his window. >> she was walking and out of nowhere he came behind and put his hand over her mouth and told her, you say anything, i'm going to kill you. >> guest says he managed to chase the man away. they responded with a k-9 unit but the suspect was never found. now investigators are trying to track down surveil and video. rewanted to take a closer look at sexual assault in el cerrito. we checked crime stats in the community. we investigated and found there have been eight incidents under

the sexual assault and sex offense category in el cerrito within the past year. >> and 5:34. an amber alert we brought you yesterday on "today in the bay." 9-year-old daniel morozov is safe and in protective custody this morning. the father abducted the boy after he shot and killed the mother. the father was killed after a confront with police officers. this happened last night. b.a.r.t. cracking down fare evaders. we have learn this morning that dozens of people have been cited as b.a.r.t. tries to stop people from cheating their way out of the fares. kris sanchez live with a new citations we learned about overnight. kris? >> reporter: hi there, laura. three dozen tickets may have b.a.r.t. riders saying that's not a lot of tickets considering how many people ride b.a.r.t. but the idea is if you get a $250 ticket for fare evasion that perhaps you'll just pay the

fare the next time. they were busted between about 5:00 and 9:00 last night at three stations. in addition to those citations b.a.r.t. officers arrested four people on unrelated warrants crimes. last night's focused enforcement is the result of the estimate 22,000 people ride for free every year at a cost of $25 million for the transit agency. b.a.r.t. committing $3 million to stop that practice and police enforcement is one part of the plan. also raising barriers at some stations to make it more difficult to evade those fares. i asked on twitter where you see the most fare evasions. robert says the worst fare evaders the elevator outside the fare gate. many evaders go up and down bypassing the gates and the staff. you can weigh in on facebook. i'll put it up right after we're

done here. in fremont, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." it is 6:36. happening today alameda county wants your input on a massive bike and pedestrian plan. this particular plan is for the unincorporated areas of the county shown in the shaded portion of the map. the goal is to create new paths and to make old ones safer. overnight we dug deeper into the county's plan. right now there are nearly 42 miles of existing bike paths in the unincorporated areas. the goal is to create more than 200 miles of new paths. at 6:37, the roads are showing that. traffic really starts to pick up. it looks like we are seeing some slowing in the south bay but the biggest issue right now is an area in richmond where we see severe troubled spot out here because there have been three accidents in the past two hours. several lanes blocked. right now westbound 80 right before exit 21 and then right behind that there's an

additional accident. they are working to clear the lanes. as of right now it's still trying to recover from an earlier crash. this is probably going to be the biggest delay as of right now in the richmond area. we're seeing another delay and this is actually right before you get on the bay bridge so there's a crash before the toll plaza. you can still see that there's a lot of stop and go traffic out there and that is because of metering lights have been on since 5:30 this morning and we're feeling like it's getting a lot heavier in terms of the traffic. i would say take the coffee to go now because we're seeing a lot more accidents out on the roads. just make it through this wednesday and we are inching closer to the weekend. >> there's a lot going on around the bay area this weekend. whether you'll be here or hitting the roads and temperatures will be hot for those inland valleys and we'll be up to 93 degrees on saturday. 95 degrees, 85 for the bay and 70 degrees for the coast. i think it's a beach weekend.

69 degrees on sunday and 96 for those inland areas. now we'll be blasting the air conditioning but you really won't have to do that in oakland. we'll be in mid-70s for the street festival saturday as well as sunday. we have a lot of sunshine in the forecast. bring sun skren and enjoy your time. as we look at the festival of the arts in palo alto it will start out at 66 degrees and then will rise up to the upper 70s so another comfortable weekend for palo alto. if you're going to be traveling and heading to the sierra this weekend, heads-up there will be a chance of some thunderstorms on friday. the rest of the weekend issing really nice and highs reaching into the mid-80s for monterey. nice and cool, but at least we'll have some comfortable temperatures during the middle of the day reaching low to mid-70s there. if you're going to be heading to pasa robles, 101 degrees. it will be definitely a little bit better in the tri-valley and

ships have collided in asia. several sailors are still missing this morning. some remains were found. the navy hasn't said how many bodies were recovered. today's hearing is to determine whether adrian gonzalez will be tried as an adull. investigators say gonzalez, who is now 17, sexually assaulted and killed middleton and then hid her body. gonzalez has pled not guilty. the hearing is to last a week. 45. new travel warning in effect for certain regions of mexico. the state department is cautioning americans about violent crimes. tourist destinations like cabo san lucas and baja, california and the yucatan peninsula. federal regulators are expanding their search into who

is buying luxury real estate including bay area county. some of the purchases were used with money laundering. we're talking about the small businesses with offshore accounts that pay cash for the properties. san francisco, san mateo, los angeles, san diego counties have properties that are under investigation. regulators are looking at properties in new york and miami. and new this morning we're hearing from a woman who criticized with treasury secretary wife linton's response prompted a big backlash. linton had tagged several designer brands in a post of herself and her husband deporting a government plane. jenni miller commented, glad we could pay for your getaway. linton responded in a long post touting her family's wealth. >> when i read the reply my first reaction was to laugh

san francisco looking to the financial district. you can see the low clouds out there right now. and as we get a look at the view from sunol the clear skies here but notice those clouds that have settle into the tri-valley. so that's the way we begin this morning. high temperatures in milpitas and san jose, up to 84. the seven-day forecast is at the bottom of the screen showing how hot it will be this week. a few more 90s in the tri-valley. san francisco 68 degrees. 82 degrees in santa rosa. taking a live look outside you see those clouds now but a hat or something that will give you shade, maybe the sunglasses.

it is going to be a great day for hiking. by 2:00 look at how warm it will be. stay hydrated under all of that sunshine. how cloudy and misty it is now. it will clear out. some clouds in the mix as we head through and keeping the temperatures in the 60s. inland areas, that's what i was talking about, those mid-90s in the forecast for the weekend. and i'll keep you up to date on that. vianey is keeping you up to date on how the roads are moving. it looks like an issue on the bay bridge as if we weren't already seeing stop and go traffic in the area. looks like an accident involving a motorcycle. there was an accident right before the toll plaza.
