the sun shines over san francisco. it looks beautiful as the transamerica pyramid is illuminated on this saturday morning. thanks for joining us, we really appreciate it. we have a look at our microclimate forecast. you know when the sun is shining in san francisco, it's going to be warm everywhere. >> that's a good point. yes, you'll feel the heat especially today because we are on tap for a warming trending. right now in the south bay 61 degrees, peninsula 56, 61 in the tri-valley. those foggy conditions thanks to that marine layer is keeping san francisco right now in the 50s. east bay 55, north bay 47, but we can expect to see a nice increase in those temperatures. it's going to bring the chance of seeing pretty dangerous heat in some areas. the south bay is expected to climb into the 90s. a high of 90 in san jose, 90 in cupertino, los gatos a high of 94. we're talking triple-digit heat in walnut creek, 101, concord

103, danville also expected to climb into the triple-digit mark which is why the national weather service has issued some heat advisories that are expected to take effect in the bay area starting on sunday. looking right now on the peninsula, even here we're expecting to climb into the 70s. for san francisco, expect mid-70s for today's highs. in the north bay a caombination of 90s in novato. i'll take a keep close. speaking of hurricane harvey, it made landfall in texas overnight. utter devastation for the city of rockport, texas. at least one hotel completely flooded. the roof of a senior housing complex collapsed, causing many injuries. more than 200,000 people are without power across the region. in corpus christi harvey made landfall as a category 4 storm with winds of 130 miles per hour. it has since weakened to a category 1 with 90-mile-an-hour

winds. power lines were knocked down and catastrophic flooding is expected. some cities are bracing for as much as 40 inches of rain. sarah dallof is in galveston, texas, with more on this devastating storm. >> reporter: a hard hit from a sudden hurricane. extreme winds. life-threatening storm surge and dangerous debris as hurricane harvey made landfall overnight. corpus christi, texas, near the bull's-eye. >> the outer bands are hitting rockport right now. >> reporter: the storm grew rapidly thursday from a tropical depression to a category 1 hurricane and continued to gather strength from there. >> we are starting to see trees go down everywhere. we're starting to see a lot of debris. >> reporter: harvey is expected to linger inland for several days, bringing with it record rain. as much as 3 feet in some areas and historic flooding. forecasters say houston roads

been set up at crissy field. on social media, organizer joey gibson, seen in the upper right corner, announced that the demonstration would no longer be at crissy field. he said he didn't feel safe after being labeled a white supremacist. at a community meeting in the marina last night, the san francisco police chief told concerned residents that the department already was planning for surprises and is prepared to hands whatever unfolds today. city leaders clearly are frustrated by the far right group's tactics. >> i think the message right now is we do not trust this group. it is clear that their intent from day one has just been to cause chaos in san francisco. >> police tell us they're already patrolling alamo state park. meanwhile counterdemonstrations aiming to send a message of love both at the castro and civic center plaza are still a go for today. in berkeley, the leader of another conservative group is telling supporters to stay home. amber cummings, the organizer of tomorrow's anti-marxism rally at

civic center park says she's been concerned all week about who might come to her event. she doesn't want anyone to get hurt. over the past few months, political showdowns in the east bay have become violent. counterprotesters say they will be in san francisco to speak out against hate. >> we have to go forward and actually continue until they are driven completely out of the bay area, off of our campuses and out of the white house. >> berkeley police have been gearing up for these events all week. they say they still will have a strong presence there tomorrow. because of these planned protests, ac transit is detouring from downtown berkeley and surrounding areas tomorrow. b.a.r.t. will continue to operate through the weekend. this is video of daly city man kyle chapman, known as the base stick man. he's walking out of jail here, released on $135,000 bail. chapman was formally charged for

welcome back to you at 7:10 on your saturday morning. here's a live look outside at alamo square park. fog covering, but you can see there that people are setting up. this is where the alt-right demonstration that was supposed to happen at crissy field is expected to move today. sfpd says they are prepared to move safety barricades and be ready for the crowds that are expected there today. a well-known south bay trainer has been sentenced to prison. our investigative unit uncovered exclusive details about the case. yesterday victims came face to face with him in court. robert handa was there. >> reporter: david wolfsmith appeared nervous and on edge as he peered into the courtroom. he hand in a sling reportedly

from a fight in jail. as we detailed in numerous reports by the nbc bay area investigative unit, he was arrested for sexually assaulting 13 female victims, including a minor, as the head of a gym, the wolfpack, in morgan hill. that minor later went to the police. i talked with her outside court. we are not showing her face. >> i wanted to make it clear that i was doing this solely to make it known that there shouldn't be any more victims. >> reporter: jane doe 1 was one of several victims who addressed the judge and vented their anger over fondling and inappropriate touching at the gym. again, we are not showing them on camera. >> how did this become your hobby, to abuse women. >> this is your permanent, perverted sickness regardless of how your behavior affects other. >> reporter: the judge went along with the plea deal mainly because he pleaded guilty. >> we feel that this is a fair resolution for both the victims

injured hang glider to safety. firefighters say he crashed in the hills near blue rock springs. crews used ropes and climbed steep terrain to get him. they carried him out on a backboard and the man was airlifted to the hospital where we were told here is stable condition this morning. uber is hitting reverse and backing out of oakland. san francisco-based uber confirms it's planning to sell the former sears building in downtown oakland. this decision comes about two years after the company bought the building for more than $120 million with the intention of staffing it with thousands of employees. now uber says it's trying to save money and improve it's margins. if you're headed to wine country this weekend, there's a new way to get around the north bay. for the first time in decades we have a map of the new rail service going from san rafael to santa rosa. it's not showing right now, but i promise it's coming. christie smith was at yesterday's grand opening where plenty of people turned out to

>> we wait here from quarter to 12 and we're still riding now. >> reporter: for those celebrating today, there was the promise of growth along the corridor and along the rail system itself. >> i was on one of the last trains on this line, and now i'm on the first train. >> reporter: christie smith, nbc bay area news. it was the map that never came, but we do have weather so that's good news. it would be a good weekend to head up and go to wine country. >> it will. it's going to be very sunny but it's going to be hot. if you're going wine tasting, remember to pair that with water occasionally because with these warmer temperatures, we can expect to see, of course, the sunshine come into play. but right now along the peninsula, 56 degrees. mostly clear in the south bay at 61 degrees and 61 degrees for the tri-valley. now, in san francisco we are waking up to some dense fog with the marine layer and that's keeping it nice and cool in the 50s.

east bay right now at 55 degrees. the north bay also seeing partly cloudy skies at about 47 degrees. here's a life look right now at that doppler radar. week actually see that marine layer really hugging the coast and that's going to burn off by mid-afternoon. as that begins to burn off, we can expect to see high pressure building over the bay area. and that's what's going to bring a warmup in those temperatures. we're talking about a significant warmup from what we've been seeing. take a look at today's microclimate highs. 90 for san jose, east san jose a high of 94, morgan hill 97, milpitas 91. but i really want to focus on the east bay because we're talking triple digit heat. yes, i'm talking about. we're talking about areas in danville at 103, walnut creek about 101, concord 103, antioch 102, so this is definitely dangerous heat as we head into the start of your saturday but this is expected to stick around through sunday. also looking along the peninsula we can expect upper 50s along the coast. daly city in the 70s.

even in san francisco we will be climbing into the low 70s and mid-70s for some areas like mission so expecting an overall very nice day for san francisco but definitely a warmer one. this is going to set us up for several days of warming, not just for today or sunday but also as we head into monday as well. knocking about napa if you plan to go wine tasting, we're expecting a high of 96, sonoma 95, novato 95. even in santa rosa at 93. now, point reyes is typically some of our cooler areas at 69 degrees for today, which is why ahead of this triple-digit heat that we can expect today, a heat advisory is expected to remain in effect until 9:00 p.m. on sunday. this is expected to take effect as of 11:00 a.m. for tomorrow, but since we are tracking triple-digit heat for today, we're already giving out that warning. please drink lots of water, wear light-colored clothing and of course protect your eyes, maybe wear a hat, some sunglasses. don't leave anyone in the car. remember those pets. if it's too hot for your feet, it's too hot for their paws so

take them out in the cooler hours of the morning. now let's focus on hurricane harvey. this is a big deal. now a category 1. its current location right now as far as the wind speeds, we've seen the worst of the winds so far as of last night. right now they're 75 miles per hour. the biggest threat will be the flash flood watches. we're still seeing tornado warnings in that area. as of saturday at 1:00 those winds will remain in the upper 70s and 80s. the biggest threat right now is this is expected to sit over this area until about wednesday. it could bring anywhere between 30 and 40 inches of rainfall. so definitely a major concern for some flooding in that area. here's a quick check of the estimated rain totals. we're talking severe rainfall. over the next seven days here in the bay area, as we head into sunday, warming up to 75 degrees. take a look at this, the next seven days we're talking about 70s for san francisco, so that warming trend will definitely also be impacting san francisco as well, but really impacting inland areas. a high of 102 for tomorrow and

welcome back, good morning. it is just shy of 7:29 on your saturday. you're getting a live look outside at alamo square park in san francisco where you can see crews are setting up fences, potentially barricades. we have that alt-right rally at crissy field planned for today now moved to alamo square park, and the city is scrambling to catch up and make sure everyone is safe. good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at our forecast. >> it's foggy out there. >> you say heat is on the way for everyone. >> yeah. as soon as that fog clears out in san francisco, here's a live look. you can't even see the bridge. we can expect to see plenty of partly clearing skies and, yes, a warmup in san jose. already seeing sunshine breaking through. the biggest concern will be those areas that are tracking triple-digit heat. right now current temps still remain fair recomfortable. we're talking 50s along the coast and 60s for inland spots.

flood. now construction crews are ready to move in. damian trujillo has more on this latest development. >> reporter: these are the images the valley water district waited 20 years to see. the army corps of engineers touring the coyote creek flood zone to see for themselves why the area needs their help. that agency would approve and help fund a permanent flood control project here to prevent this from happening again. >> we're doing everything we can from the water district's perspective. >> reporter: the valley water district chairman says the fed saw these images at the pentagon. the floods in rock springs this winter forced victims to be rescued by emergency cruise when the coyote creek overflowed its banks. this video prompted the army corps to ask how they can help on a permanent flood control project. >> to resolve and fix the creek. >> reporter: he gave us a brief overview of the plan to bring some temporary relief to the rock springs community. >> the fact is that we'll be in the creek doing some work very

good morning. it is 7:45 and today's maybe event in the bay area is going to be those warming temperatures. right now in walnut creek, 58 grows, but walnut creek is expected to climb into the 90s and possibly even triple-digit heat by this evening which is why we are expecting several heat warnings and heat advisories throughout the bay area. right now 56 degrees, mostly clearing along the peninsula. 61 degrees for the south bay, some hazy skies, and 61 in the tri-valley. now, san francisco is seeing that dense fog. temperatures in the 50s. now 55 for the east bay, 47 for the north bay. we can expect to climb fairly quickly into today's microclimate forecast. here's a high of 90 for san jose and 94 for east san jose. morgan hill will be climbing

into those upper 90s. and in the east bay we will be hitting the triple-digit heat. walnut creek a high of 101, danville 103, pleasanton 100 degrees, and in antioch we'll be climbing to 102, so those will be the warmest spots for today. that's because we've got that building high pressure that's going to make our temperatures climb in san francisco into the 70s. and this is going to be a trend that's going to continue into sunday and into monday as well. now, the north bay is expecting to climb into those 90s as well, and that is going to be triggering a heat advisory that will remain in effect through tomorrow night, expecting to take effect from 11:00 a.m. for the highlighted areas, drink plenty of water. we're expecting temperatures between the 90s to possibly 103 degrees in inland spots. now here's a quick update on hurricane harvey. right now it is downgraded to a category 1. the biggest impact for last night with those strong winds. right now we're looking at 75-mile-per-hour winds and the biggest threat will be that surge and all of that rain that is expected.

it's expected to sit over that area and not really go anywhere. by 1:00 tonight we're expecting those winds to maintain in the 80 miles per hour range and flooding from 30 to 40 inches of rainfall. if you have family in this area, reach out to them. i've got a couple of family members in houston. it looks like everything is okay for now. saturday's day planner mostly clear inland spots, foggy at the coast. by 12:00 we're warming up into the 80s. by 3:00 we're talking hot temperatures. this is when we're climbing into the dangerous heat mark. we're talking about 90s and 100s in inland spots with slight cooling at 7:00 into the upper 70s at 79 degrees. over the next seven days it will bring a nice, hot warming temperature trend. in san francisco we'll climb into the upper 70s by sunday and then we'll really stick to those 70s for the next several days. inland spots expect to hit the triple-digit mark yet again tomorrow before we see a slight decrease. 99 on monday and then we stay in

south bay this week. we celebrated the eclipse this week and denny's sold moon cakes, but they weren't. moon cakes are a chinese pastry and you're likely to get them along with other chinese food, life music and entertainment in oakland's chinatown at the 30th annual streetfest. this year they're celebrating the year of the rooster, so definitely something to crow about. i went with the easy joke. i'm sure you can come up with a better one independently and celebrate with the pakistan association of san francisco for pakistan's independence day celebration at the so mania street food park in the south of market area. music, dancing, but most of all food is the theme of the party. check out the traditional treats they'll have and something special like these treats with the pakistani flag and a whole lot of sugar, i'm sure. join me on monday for a whole lot of traffic. i've got your commute right here on "today in the bay."

==take vo== wendell pierce, best known for his roles in "the wire" and "s a well-known actor has major plans for one east bay city. wendell pierce is best known for his roles in "the wire" and "selma." he wants to build a massive housing and retail project in downtown richmond. after visiting the site on mcdonald avenue on wednesday, he is convinced he should move forward with the project. the development would have more than 400 housing units, commercial space and even some tech incubators. it all would be a short walk from richmond's b.a.r.t. and amtrak station.

this weekend thousands of people will make their trek to a nevada desert for burning man. this year one of the main art displays has a connection to california's drought. here's joe rosato jr. to explain. >> reporter: if a tree dies in the forest, does anyone notice? what about a hundred million trees? that's the staggering estimate of the number of trees killed by bark beetles during california's drought. >> it led to millions of trees dying, and there's a glut of logs from these dead trees. >> reporter: most of the trees that crews have hauled off are burned unceremoniously in power plants. but in a back lot in west oakland, dead trees are finding new life. as art. >> these are our main posts for the temple. >> reporter: an army of volunteers is busy hammering, drilling, arranging. >> this is one of our pedestals. >> reporter: building the annual temple for the burning man arts

festival. >> this year the temple is special because it's being built entirely from lumber that has been milled from beetle killed wood. >> reporter: pg&e cleared away 300 logs up near yosemite and donated them to the temple crew. an oakland mill cut them into 3,000 boards. >> once a tree is dead, it's actually not suitable for commercial lumber production. >> reporter: but for a temporary temple in the desert, this wood is perfect. >> it's a shame more of it couldn't be used, but i think this is a beautiful way to use the wood. >> reporter: the stacks of ponderosa pine bear blue stains from the bark beetle infestation. >> and this is a tiny, tiny fraction of what's there. >> reporter: the crews are assembling the temple in oakland before hauling it out to the nevada desert. >> it's about 100,000 pounds total. >> the temple is one of the primary structures built at burning man. it serves as a center for people to leave memories of people who have been lost.

well, it's coming to san francisco, but you might not get to see it because tickets already are sold out. 50,000 people were in an online queue for tickets yesterday morning and tickets sold out in less than an hour and a half. the pop-up art installation all about ice cream arrives in the city on september 17th. the museum says it may add more dates in the future. tickets are $38. the broadway hit musical "hamilton" has just launched a new app. you get all the news and merchandise about the broadway musical and it makes it easier to enter the hamilton ticket lottery.
