upper 60s, also watching out for a little bit that rain moving through, the bulk of the showers and storms have been well to the north of the viewing area and moving away from us. so as we go into the day, looking at temperatures reaching into the upper 70s in san jose, mid-70s for oakland, upper 60s for san francisco with lower 80s in the tri-valley. dev definitely cooler, and i'll talk more about that coming up. mike is track a crash. thauz that's right pu mensed there may be a light sprinkle that went through the area. they do report two crashes, one southbound i've been tracking that's just before you get to the summit, and another one coming on the northbound side. the details on that late ef one do seem different enough nauf there maybe a second crash in the same area right around the santa cruz summit on highway 17. meanwhile getting over to the bay bridge, easy drive as well.

a light flow of traffic and we'll track this build. back to you. now to the hurricane irma coverage rare deadly storm barreling through the atlantic. right now it's heading towards the dominican republic, this after leaving a path of destruction. new images from overnight. >> it's a former dutch colony. right now thousand of thousands of homes are leveled there and although there are no reported deaths in that particular area, we're alerting elsewhere at least ten people are dead and dozens of others injured in the caribbean. >> meantime in puerto rico, hurricane irma forced more than 1 million people in darkness, unfortunately the system stayed just out to sea. right now it continues its path toward florida. and that's where millions of people are fleeing this morning. a mass exodus is under way in the florida keys where mandatory evacuation orders are in effect the these are live live pictures of those heading out of town

the federal constructional institute on monday. there's a minimum security facility. the u.s. mar sel shal service says both women were serving sentences for narcotics charges. santa clara county supervisor is provide egg meaning full of oversight for the sheriff's office and department of corrections. they're saying it creates an office of correction and law enforcement oversight. also it calls for a creation of a citizen panel to ensure public access. it's been two years since three guards beat an inmate to death at the santa clara younty jail. those guards were convicted of murder earlier this year. they're stoet consider the proposal on tuesday. surveillance cameras are coming to roads in and out of town in mortgagea. they raised 60 grand to pay for that equipment.

stocks rose after president trump signaled support to the democrats plan to give hurricane disaster relief and extend the debt limit by three months. we'll look today on unemployment and productivity. it rose 51 points to 21,807. the nasdaq was up 17 to 6393. square is getting into the banking business. the digital payments company run by twitter jack dorsey will submit an application today to form a bank based in utah that would offer loans and deposit accounts to small businesses. square has provided loans and cash advances through its lending arm since 2014. and toys "r" us has hired a law firm to look at potential options to go from refinancing to bankruptcy filing. it has dealt with a private mountain of debts since it became private in the 2005 and it's continued to struggle as walmart is now the largest toy

gate bridge and welcome back on this thursday morning. take a look back at the golden gate bridge right there, beautiful morning out there. kari's not taking responsibility for this beautiful weather but sometimes the messenger is just as responsible as the beautiful weather. >> i don't want to take the blame for bad weather. >> glou. >> i can't do both. it's a nice morning starting out and we have to be grateful for the weather that we have especially as we track hurricane irma for our family in florida and also in the caribbean island. here's a look at the storm right now. still a category 5 with wind speeds that have gone down a few miles per hour. but still 180 miles an hour as it approaches right now it is moving closer to puerto rico. i'll have a full update on this coming up at the 5:00 hour. wanted to get awe a look at what's happening right now in san francisco with some clouds,

temperatures at 67 degrees. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen showing a chance of rain today. and as you head our our temperatures are now in the upper 60s. as we look at the south bay, we are going to have highs reaching up to 79 degrees in san jose and for gilroy expect a hive 83 degrees and for the east bay, reaching into the low 80s. so definitely cooler than the weather we've seen throughout the first part of this week. and oakland today up to 75 degrees and 73 degrees in redwood city, san francisco we'll see a high of 68 degrees on the embarcadero. and the north bay looking at highs in the mid to upper 70s. as you're getting started this morning about to get ready, get dressed and get out the door, it is a great day to just grab the umbrella just in case because we have been track something light rain. and you'll probably be comfortable wearing long sleeves all day because of the cooler weather. and a lot of the heavier downpours, the thunder and lightning has been farther to the north so all of those icons

there, that's live lightning detected by awe our radar. and the rain we've seen here this morning, very fine kind of misty and not enough to be picked up on radar but it is happening out there and our computer mo model shows that chance of a little bit more rain moving in to the coast es special lirp in the santa cruz mountains as well as the north bay. by 2:00, 3:00 we start to see this becoming a little more spotty but there will another chance later tonight that we could see a quick burst of heavy rain. and it looks like for most of us not measuring anything, and anything that we do measure you will be in a few 1/100ths of an inch. >> warming up on sunday and we may break that little warm spell with a chance of showers. we'll also see that for the inland areas next tuesday, but get ready for some warmer temperatures for saturday and sunday. and, mike, you're tracking what's happening out there on the roadways. that's right. the santa cruz mountains, we

have a smooth flow of traffic around most of the bay area. stand by for the castro valley y. that crash did clear from the roadway to the shoulder, northbound we had a lot of slowing for because for about ten minutes we had the left lane blocked as you're approaching the sum met. chp -- there you go, yellow to green the speed sensors just updated slowing for the distraction just as summit road itself. everything should be off the roadway now. also this son the connecter it should be clear it shortly. eastbound 580 then looping back on to northbound 238 so not really a commonly used route through the area because most folks get being on to 238 or 880 go directly over there. a smooth flow of traffic through the maze, we do ray crash west 80 at willow that's clearing to the shoulder. mild slowing just before you goat highway 4, and the north bay no delays over on this side. we'll look at the bay bridge

toll plaza. 4:47, no delay at the toll plaza. it's 4:47. president trump's son expected to meet privately with the senate committee staff. it's all tied to the investigation of russian interference in last year's presidential election. it will likely focus on a meeting he had with a russian lawyer and others during last year's campaign. e-mails released in july showed that trump junior was told the meeting was part of a russian government effort to the aid his father's bid for the white house. in the meantime, states are lining up to file lawsuits to stop the trump administration from ending daca, that program that protects undocumented immigrants it who came to the united states as children from being deported. they say california will step up to protect the program given that one in four daca participants live in california. >> we all agree that president trump's decision to end daca is a despicable act of political

could you ward es. >> president trump was right in his decision. he made the right call. i'm also encouraged by the fact that he gave us time to work out a consensus. a live look at capitol hill this morning, 15 other states in the district of columbia are also filing suit. 4:49, in a follow-up senator dianne feinstein continues her work to help an oakland nurse and her husband. feinstein introduced a private bill on wednesday it would provide green cards specifically for the sanchez family. the couple was deported to mexico last month after spending more than 20 years in the u.s. three of their kids remain in america, including a daughter protected by daca. experts tell us this morning that feinstein's private bill will likely fail. now to a story sparking national debate. star football player taken down by las vegas police officer and it's all caught on camera. >> i wasn't doing nothing, man.

>> police body camera footage shows a chaotic scene in las vegas. michael bennett says he was unfairly singled out because he's black. it happened last month. bennett says he was back to his hotel when he heard what sounded like gunshots, so he ran like everyone else. but he was detained by police who put a gun to his head. >> a traumatic experience for me, my family and it sucks that the country that we live in now sometimes you get profiled for the color of your skin. >> bennett was released and not charged with any crime. he now has hired prominent oakland bay civil rights attorney john burr roes. the two are considering legal action. collin kaepernick had this treat in response saying he stands with him. the las vegas police department says race was not a factor. they also say the body camera of

the officer who detained bennett was not turned on. an east bay neighborhood son edge this morning because rats have taken over. it's so bad that one woman had to temporarily move out of her home. that problem is being felt in north berkeley. one neighbor tells us it become an issue in may when she got mysterious bites all over her body. her dermatologist narrowed that problem to rat bites. >> they take up to two months to die off on their own spot two mochbz going to bed every night and being eaten alive. >> wow. berkeley's environmental health department has been flooded with calls. the wet winter has contributed to the city's rode dent problem. overgrown vegetation gives the rats a place to live and people living -- leaving out that. he food can also draw in those rats. it's 4:51 right now. coming up, take a look at this. brown haze, that's what much of yosemite national park looks like right now. tell you just how bad that air

quality is at the park. but when conditions could also improve. but first happening now, there are concerns of airline flights gouging this morning ahead of hurricane irma's landfall in florida. the miami herald reports by yesterday pliess to fly out of south florida sky rocketed to more than $3,000 per person for domestic flights. well richard branson who has been hold newspaper a wine cellar survived the storm. he says that everybody on his private caribbean island are okay. they hunkered down in a concrete shelter with his family and staff. more news coming up in two minutes.

to you. taking a live look outside. this is the san mateo bridge. folks already up and out the door. it is a very nice start to our thursday morning, nice temperatures on tap for today as well. the full forecast coming up with kari in just a moment. it's 4:55. outage in marin county this morning after a neighbor killed a deer and fawn because they were eating his expensive landscaping. tiburon police released this photo of the pellet gun they say the 54-year-old homeowner used to shoot the animals. they say the pellet gun led to a slow and painful death. the homeowner is charged with felony animal cruelty which carries a maximum fine of $20,000. new this morning the air at yo yosemite national park is bad to breathe. the air quality levels at the visitor's center are unhealthy status. they posted an image showing a brown haze. multiple wildfires burning

nearby are lowering visibility and reducing the air quality. the national weather service tells the sfk that smoky conditions should improve today. continuing coverage now, fire officials tell us they expect full contape meant soon of a brush fire still burning in gilroy. we check cal fire's website overnight it says the blaze is about 80% contained. 100 acres have burned. we've been covering this fire all week. it actually started sunday night in the hills near the eagle ridge golf club. this morning we have our first sense of the most popular destination using a new north bay commuter train. nearly half of riders say they disembark in san rafael. marin area rail transit announced the results of the unscientific survey on wednesday. 47% got off in san rafael, nearly 11% got off in downtown petaluma. 10% got off in novato, san marin, and the other 10% for the marin civic center. coming up, kari is tracking

it's still all dry with our temperatures starting out in the 60s heading up to about 67 degrees at 8:00. we'll only sees those highs at 77 today and more clouds in the mix as we see those temperatures updating now. and looking at the day planner for oakland we'll be up to 74 at 4:00 today with some clouds throughout the afternoon and a slight chance of rain. so i'll have more on that rain. and mike is already tracking a few crashes right now. >> that's right put mentioned the sprinkles and rain for the santa cruz mountains. had a couple of crashes both directions for highway 17 right about the summit. they're both cleared from the roadway. still tracking this incident over here just off the castro valley y it's east 580 so definitely off your main commute. and over here watch the slowing build up but i just got word chp said it's cleared to the shoulder but still a direction that crash at west 80 and willow just before highway 4. so there's a little slowing there. but then look at that, the travel time f
