in early april 2016, as the love triangle between the podiatrist and his wife and his girlfriend reached a slow burn. a luxury car sales man got an unexpected visit from a former customer. she came into his office and asked the unthinkable. she wanted someone murdered. >> did she look like a kind of woman who would be coming into hire a hit man? >> no, not a million years that i would think that. his name is mark mackenzkenzie, father of four who's been selling cars for six years.

>> detectives wanted him to keep playing the role of the bad guy, he did not hesitate. >> that's got to be daunting. >> it was kind of cool in a way like -- that's like double 007 type thing. >> the microphone was hanging over here and on my seat here i had a phone. they asked mackenzy to set up another meeting with the woman. the location, this large walmart parking lot directly across the street from the police station. >> we can see the police department. >> yeah. then you can throw rocks and hit the police station. >> mackenzy alerted police the meeting was set. a team of detectives raced to the parking lotto get in position. >> it was an intense moment because the case is just starting. she gets out of the car and gets into that car and we are like this is fantastic. >> detectives could watch and

listen to every word in realtime. >> it did not take long before she started talking money, how much to have a target murder. >> the next day detectives were watching when the woman met with mackenzy again. this time she suggested how the target should be killed. >> how about hit-and-run or you getting out of the car or backing up to the guy. you know it is a plain incident. over the course of the meeting, the woman managed to negotiate the price to $100,000 and agreed to pay a $2,000 deposit and asked about his refund privacy. >> so who was the woman? >> well, you already met her.

kelly did not ask them to be killed but beaten up. detectives believe this was a new job to test mackenzy to see if he's the real deal >> they don't think someone working the police would have two innocent people just doing their job beat up. they were willing to pay quickly to get it done. kelly handed mackenzy a brown bag filled with cash. $2,500, half of the $5,000 fee. >> detectives luzane reached out to the insurance investigators and quickly discovered why they were a selected target. >> i called them. look, we are coming anyway because we have an investigation into ira bernstein. >> luzane says they were investigating ira for insurance
