happy friday! we made it. now we have to make it through your day. let's start out with a beautiful live look outside. a nice start in san francisco this morning. good morning, thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm marcus washington. when you walk out the door, it's so cool. today is the first day of fall. >> yes, it is. at 1:02 this afternoon. it feels so cool outside. it does feel like fall and as we head through the day, it's going to be nice. here is a look at the temperatures you are going to feel as you step out the door, 44 degrees in santa rosa and 45

in livermore. 58 degrees in san francisco. looking at the high temperatures today, mid-60s in san francisco and upper 70s for the inland valley and delta. san jose, 73 degrees. we'll talk about what's ahead for the weekend. vianey arana gets us out the door with the commute. >> 4:30 and speed sensors are showing open roads. overall, green means go. we aren't seeing major slowing, chp, as of now, hasn't reported anything accident wise. from highway 85, 20 minutes from highway 101. you are looking at eight minutes. so, your south bay commute is smooth. if you take a live look outside at how the 101 looks, it looks good so far. back to you guys. >> thank you. we are monitoring developments in mexico where rescue efforts continue in the wake of the

deadly earthquake. the rescue attempt of the young girl they were calling freida wasn't real. the mexican navy is announcing where the reports first started. this morning, the number of dead stands at 273 but there are still signs of hope emerging. at least 60 victims have been rescued. at the same time, the number of deaths, sadly, is expected to go higher. damian trujillo has been on the ground since wednesday. he's reporting alongside the volunteers working around the clock. >> he joins us now with more on the nonstop rescue work. >> reporter: these volunteers have been here throughout the night. they have been here for the last couple of days. there's no rest for the weary here. they use the motorcycle to go out and deliver goods to the operators out here. it's an endless show of solidarity here in mexico city.

overnight, there were reports of deaths caused by the earthquake and rescue efforts around the clock. the military says they will not sleep or rest until every last person who needs to be rescued is. dozens of buildings collapsed in mexico city. mexico city has an early warning system. the epicenter of this was not in an area where there are sensors to detect the quake. otherwise, the people here would have received a one minute warning before the earth started shaking. in this case, the others went off as the ground was already moving. this morning and today, the rescue efforts will continue as the region comes together as one. again, the motorcycle operators are getting together to find these rescuers with what they need. damian trujillo, "today in the bay." >> damian is tweeting videoses and pictures from mexico city like this one, the flag at half staff in main square. follow him on twitter.

new this morning, police in antioch are urging drivers to double check their credit and debit accounts. they found six skimmers on thursday. that station is on summerville road near highway 4. they are trying to figure out who put them there. if you purchased gas there and find evidence of fraud, file a report. at 4:34, since march, the hillside here crumbled on to the roadway during last winter's relentless rain. the road opened. crews spent months removing rock and debris and repairing the hillside with protective netting. here is a look at the roadway in march. it will reopen sometime this afternoon. live now to the golden gate

bridge. officials could decide to close the bridge to traffic during major events. look at the safety reasons. in july, a northbound lane was closed for the san francisco marathon. bridge officials tell us that's rare. their goal is to keep lanes open and traffic moving, that's the current policy and the board of directors are likely to keep it intact today. how would you like to play in this? it's the world's largest bounce house. it's blowing up in santa rosa. a 10,000 square foot structure with a lot to do inside. the event center is open to the public until sunday. that is a kids delight. >> maybe adults, too. i'm not jumping in that. >> follow your kids in there. coming up, apple's latest iphone hits stores today. the experts. trix are for kids.

all right, as we await the markets opening, we want to check the business and tech news with landon dowdy. good morning. >> hi, good morning. wall street is looking to end the week on a mixed note. the markets keeping a watch on geo political tensions on asia after north korea threatened to fire a hydrogen bomb. a dip in apple stocks. the dow falling for the first time in ten days, down 53 points to 22,359. the nasdaq posting the worst day in a month, down to 33 points to 6422. apples new iphone are slated to hit store shelves today. the 4.7 inch phone and the plus starts at $799. the new phones will offer a glass and aluminum design, better camera technology and

faster processing power. despite the new features, analysts are expecting slightly lower sales in customer turnout. many customers are holding out for the premium iphone x model due in december. general mills are bringing back the original version of twix after customers complained about the naturally colored relacement. it will sit on store shelves alongside the natural version. this is a reversal of a cereal maker's plans to remove artificial colors and flavors from the brands. general mills produced the natural trix last year from radishes, purposing carrots and tumeric. >> they want the artificial flavor. bring it back. crazy. >> thanks, landon. coming up, we are tracking your weekend forecast. kari, what is the first week of fall?

>> it is looking warmer than today as we are going to see some warmer temperatures moving in this weekend. let's check out the temperature trend for santa clara, in the upper 50s. as you head out the door, more people up and about and temperatures reaching to the low 70s. much like yesterday, but a hotter weekend ahead. we'll talk about that, next. it may be friday, but it looks like we have a lot of folks out on the road. this is along 880 in oakland. a busy morning, so far this friday, but at least no major accidents at this hour. plus, a push for universal health care. the event bernie sanders is scheduled to attend today.

the slopes yet. snow is falling in yosemite as well. the park closed a couple roads yesterday because of the snow coming in. early in the season, a nice sign. >> it's going to warm up. it will happen next week as the bay area sees a warm up, they will also see some of that snow melting. we want to talk about that snow still falling this morning. here is a look at the radar. it's all clear except for this little patch near the sierra right now where you are seeing snow showers where we are getting at times snow showers and the potential of another three or four inches of snow. as we look now at squaw valley, they have it all lit up so we can see a little bit of snow on the ground there and we have that possibility throughout today and it clears out for the weekend. so, if you will be going to squaw valley or anywhere where we are seeing the snow, it will be clearing up later on this afternoon. but, you may have slick roads.

as we get a look at the forecast and what we are seeing now in the bay area, the peninsula right now, 52 degrees. it's 57 degrees in the east bay. look at how cool it is this morning in the north bay. a chilly 44 degrees with the high temperature this afternoon reaching into the low 70s. we'll be up to 72 degrees in gilroy. this is very much like it was yesterday, up to 77 in danville. a few spots warmer. oakland up to 68 degrees and low 70s for redwood city and palo alto. san francisco, again, in the mid-60s today and upper 70s for much of the north bay in santa rosa, expect a high of 77 degrees. getting ready this morning, indeed, you need a jacket. it is going to be a cool start, but also another day where it's comfortable wearing panlts as well. an update on hurricane irma. right now, just approaching the turks and caicos. this is now a category 3 hurricane, wind speeds at 125

miles an hour. you see the track there. it will be turning to the north and staying over the open water right now, heading through next wednesday. that's the current forecast. we'll continue to monitor that. san francisco, reaching into the 70s for the weekend. warmer air on the way. inland areas going from the low 70s today to low 90s by the middle of next week. let's head to vianey arana for the morning commute. >> a couple road hazards, but chp did work quickly and that has been moved out of the way in the south bay. for now, the speed sensors aren't picking up slowing. the san francisco area, pretty clear. as always, that area in tracy still seeing a little bit of yellow for stop and go traffic. unfortunately, that is one of those hot spots that has problems in that area. east bay drive times, southbound 680 from 580 about ten minutes.

everyone. later this afternoon, he will highlight the increased enrollment after the community college started offering free tuition for san francisco residents. another reminder, bart station closing this weekend and next weekend. bart is closing that station to test the tracks before opening the silicon valley extension. it will connect it to san jose. it is expected to open in 2018. bart will provide free bus rides to you. in the end, came up short. a special thursday night game seen here on nbc bay area, the winless niners could have tied up the game in the last two minutes. they cut the rams lead to two points after a touchdown fi carlos high. the two-point conversion failed. after recovering the kick, the niners might have had a chance
