53 and san francisco in the 60 degree mark. a quick look at the temperature and climbing into the 70s by 10:00 a.m. i'll let you know what spots will be the warmest in a bit. first, mike. >> overall, the bay looks great. slowing in the altamont and construction there. the dumbarton bridge, we see slowing. there was an earlier issue with a disabled vehicle. sudden slowing over the last three minutes. maybe clear that. we'll check on that. it should be past the toll plaza. as we talked, construction getting over here at the altamont pass causing slowing through the area and across the golden gate bridge. northbound we are looking for traffic toward sir francis drake where a vehicle blocks the off ramp. for now, back to you for the breaking news. >> we are following breaking news this morning. a rude wake up call for a san francisco family when a speeding car flies into a home, slamming

into a garage. >> we are live at the scene in glen park neighborhood. steve, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus and laura. quite a wake-up call for folks in the area. we are on the corner where three streets meet up in san francisco. i want to show you where that car drove into the home here on the corner. i can see the power is still on in the area. the traffic lights are still on. that's good news. let's go ahead and show you video of when this all took place. you are seeing here the scene when it took place at 12:30 a.m. the new information we are getting from san francisco fire is the car went into the home around that time. you can see in the video, the people are able to talk to them. they are in good shape and able to get out on their own from that car. still, san francisco fire sent rescue squads out to look at the building, which is uninhabitable

after the accident. the car hit a circuit line that shut off power to a home next door. that doesn't appear to be the case as we stand here. some residents complained of odors and smells. pg&e says there aren't issues to that regard. live, the house is boarded up following that accident. there doesn't appear to be major injuries. exactly what led the driver to the home behind me is still under investigation. we spoke to residents. we will hear from them in the next hour. they heard a big pop when that happened. live in san francisco, pete suratos, for "today in the bay." >> glad everyone is okay. it is 4:33 right now. breaking news we are covering from israel where israel's president is calling an overnight shooting a terror attack. authorities say three israeli men are dead, another critically hurt. the shooter, who was hurt by security forces was a

palestinian man. it happened in an upscale community west of juierusalem. 4:34. developing now in southern california, firefighters are in a desperate vow to save hundreds of homes. a wildfire destroyed one so far. it is burning between anaheim and corona. we checked a few minutes ago and it burned more than 1700 acres. it started yesterday afternoon. evacuees say they grabbed what they could. they have no idea if their houses are still there. >> hopeless. like my house may go. this is basically whatever i have. >> about 300 homes are evacuated. right now, firefighters say that fire is out of control and there's no timetable on containment. all new this morning, bizarre series of crimes involving three young women. the suspects work together,

specifically, to rob other women. the 18, 19 and 20-year-olds face 11 burglary charges and nine identity theft charges. they targeted women working alone like real estate agents or convenience store clerks. one caused a distraction and the other stole the cash and credit cards. all new this morning, the police department says two-thirds of congestion related violations come from uber and lyft drivers. a supervisor called the number basically unbelievable. here are the specific numbers. out of 2600 total traffic violations, about 1700 were from ride sharing vehicles. violations include driving in transit only lanes, obstructing traffic and making illegal u-turns. other supervisors have heard of reckless driving from uber and lyft drivers. they are committed to working

wall street looks to revamp from yesterday's losses. the dow fell for the third time amid rising tensions with north korea. oil prices are holding near multi-month highs today. look for more later on home prices, new home sales and consumer confidence. janet yellin will be speaking this afternoon. the nasdaq down 56 to 6370. new features to an app to help drivers. 24/7 live phone support and improved hispanic language online support. they support existing features such as destination mode which allow drivers to set destinations up to six times and ride guides, which uses trip data on where drivers are most likely to pick up the next fare. >> wireless charging for a car.

so san francisco is opening up cooling centers happening today, the heat can be so dangerous san francisco is opening up cooling centers ahead of the heat wave. that's expected wednesday, i think. we'll check in in a moment. three people died of heat-related illnesses overthe labor day weekend. we have a list of the cooling centers that are opening up. looks nice and cool in the city by the bay. you have to watch it. a lot of people in the city or throughout the bay area don't have air-conditioning. >> not at all. that's the thing you have to be remindful of. >> at least we are not dealing with triple digit heat and starting with the warming pattern today. tomorrow is expected to be the hottest day of the week, which is why they are opening up the cooling centers ahead of the hot day tomorrow. right now, south bay, 52 degrees. 60 in the peninsula. 63 in the tri-valley. the nice, clear skies, if you

notice, we haven't been waking up to fog. the high pressure is keeping the clouds away. that's what's been keeping us nice and hot. we have been starting to see the warm up since yesterday. 60 degrees in san francisco. let's talk about that 24-hour temperature change. we have started warming up. as i mentioned, tomorrow is expected to be the hottest day. as of now, we are five degrees warmer than yesterday at this hour in morgan hill. four degrees warmer in san jose. in san francisco, three degrees warmer. we are already seeing that gradual warming, which will turn to quicker warming by the afternoon. san jose climbing to 89 degrees, east san jose, 90. this is where the more worrisome temperatures are because of the fire danger. when you pair that up with the low humidity, with 94 degree temperatures in concord, 93 in antioch, 91 in livermore and pleasanton at the 90 degree mark. for the peninsula, not a lot of

people have ac, unfortunately. the coast isn't going to be too much of a relief. if you go from san mateo, you can go over to half-moon bay, 75, which is where we'll see the most cool temperatures in terms of when you compare it to 80s and 90s. the north bay, santa rosa, a high of 93, navato, 94. the red flag warnings will remain in place at least through tomorrow. tomorrow is going to be the hottest day of the week. expect another night of those gusts picking up, but mainly to the north bay and east bay. if you are not moving in those areas, you probably didn't feel the wind last night. it's a light breeze, especially along the coast from the north-northeast. here are the changes we can expect ahead. another clear, dry day, 83 degrees. as we head into wednesday, we are talking upper 80s, possibly inching toward 87-88. that will depend on the ridge of

high pressure. thursday and friday, we see the high pressure move out toward the east and we finally start seeing a gradual cooling heading into the weekend. as we head into inland areas, expect to see high temperatures in the 90s before we see a little bit of cooling by friday. mike, how are the roads? >> looking all right. cool. all the earlier hazards, the disabled vehicles and crashes cleared from the chp report. what am i going to talk about? a little slowing on the sensors. be careful as you head out the dumbarton bridge because of the incident at thornton and flashing lights are a distraction. we had a burst of traffic come through livermore out of the altamont pass. no delays for travel times. things are looking great. i want to check mass transit to show you, there are no delays for the systems. bart showing 30 trains on time no. delays.

united states. >> facebook says it found $100,000 in ads tied to nearly 500 fake accounts. you can see the entire report during the "today" show that starts after "today in the bay" at 7:00 a.m. 4:49. continuing coverage. authorities released surveillance video. suspects accused of robbing toll booths in vallejo. the video shows the person in the front seat of that car pulling up and pulling a gun on the toll taker and demanding cash. police say the two thieves struck twice on sunday. they robbed toll takers on the car key nas bridge and bay bridge. a warning from police about atms after multiple warnings. police believe a man and woman robbed four people using atms this month. it happened in san jose and campbell. each time they had guns.

the duo was last seen driving a dark gray nissan central. emotional dialogue in the south bay as police and community members discuss the use of tactics. they organized a town hall last night in san jose. it was filled with residents, some of whom lost loved ones in police shootings. the department has been involved in eight shootings this year. relatives of some of those who died talked last night about that loss. >> what hurts the most is trying to keep strong for my kids and remain positive. >> it isn't really the number of officer involved shootings, it's the manner which they occurred. >> the department must look closely at each incident. many would like to see more transparency in the department. new this morning, a popular

east bay brewery closing its doors three decades after it opened. the owners say it will shut down in early november. it opened in 1988, as one of the bay area's first craft brewing companies. the beer won numerous awards. the owners say they want to announce the closure to give staff members time to find new jobs. time is 4:51. a record backlog after cases that clog u.s. immigration court across the country, including the long delays here in san francisco. coming up, we investigate how and why this is happening, keeping hundreds of thousands of people in legal limbo. >> 4:51. happening now, egyptian authorities arrested seven people accused of being gay or promoting homosexuality. aarrest gay men. the department improved a revision to the 30-40 year plan

live look from a chopper over the fire that is burning in anaheim. you can see it there from the distance. it started yesterday. you can see the glow there about 2,000 acres burned so far while they try to get a handle on this one. it is the canyon fire burning between anaheim and corona. there's a much closer look at the blaze, just the glow there in the hills threatening homes in that area. keeping our eye on that.

4:54. u.s. immigration courts continue to face a record of backlogs on investigative unit has been looking into it for years now. >> we have the story behind the delay. >> reporter: we discovered in san francisco immigration court, the wait is the longest in the country. cases are sent back to july of the year 2022. that carries a human toll because evidence gets lost. witnesses forget or disappear during that time. we spoke to more than a half dozen undocumented immigrants living here in the bay area, all of whom have had their cases postponed. all of them told us they left their home countries because of death threats or persecution. >> translator: i do worry about my children. >> translator: i don't know what's going to happen. i have no hope. >> reporter: we spoke to the president of the national association of immigration
