good wednesday morning to you as we take a live look outside on the golden gate bridge as the day comes along. good morning and thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. the day is going to be a warm one as well as the heat up for some time now. >> that fire danger will continue. we are talking upper 80s and 90s. even in san jose, expected to climb into the 90s for today and the east bay and north bay, keep the fire danger in place. the south bay, 66 degrees. peninsula 63, tri-valley, 58. san francisco, 54 degrees right now. a quick check on the temperature trend. we'll see we climb into the 70s by 9:00 a.m. i'll let you know

when we will see the hottest point of the day. mike? >> we are looking at the live camera northbound 880 at coliseum. flashing lights on the southbound side. i'm concerned about the traffic going north. there was an earlier crash north of our shot. no slowing past the coliseum here. debris is in the roadway. we are watching for the last few. no problems reported and no lanes blocked from what i understand. the rest of the bay show as nice, easy drive. show of slowing there. no major problems on the upper east shore. the travel times, 880 northbound shows debris in that spot. back to you, marcus. >> in southern california, firefighters are making headway in tackling a wildfire that's

burned 2,000 acres. the canyon fire has been burning near anaheim since monday. the fire is 15% contained. still, thousands of homes are threatened. firefighters are letting some evacuees return home. a follow up, firefighters in the oakland hills are monitoring for hot spots after a fast-moving fire forced people to flee and brought back the memories of 1991s deadly fire storm. last night, firefighters missed evacuation orders for homes around keller avenue near interstate 580. the fire started yesterday afternoon and burned 20 acres. we brought live coverage when it broke out. one person talked about her concern during what was a massive response from firefighters. >> we were afraid because the smoke was actually coming on our side. we didn't know if the flames were coming toward our side. >> no homes were damaged in

yesterday's fire. firefighters say flames started near the construction sight. the cause is still under investigation. 4:32. another hearing for the two men charged in the warehouse fire. derek and the former assistance, matt are facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection to yesterday's fire. both men were in court for a plea hearing. one attorney says they wanted to drop those charges, instead. the judge denied that request. uber is heading back to court. weigh more, the self-driving company said -- uber denies having access to those files. >> to washington, d.c., where, once again, the latest republican effort to repeal and

and dublin this welcome back. you are watching "today in the bay." live pictures from san francisco and dublin this wednesday morning. a cool start, but we are expecting another warm up today. >> warm inland today. expected temperatures? >> warmer than yesterday. yesterday, we were on the hotter side for inland spots. today, 90s in some spots, which is very summer-like. ift's going to bring a threat of fire danger. we have seen a couple fires breaking out in southern california and here as well. we have to keep a close eye on that tonight and into tomorrow as the relative humidity remains low. peninsula 63 degrees. south bay, 66 degrees.

tri-valley, nice and cool, but san francisco, already at 64 degrees. no fog, yet again. th that's because we are not seeing the marine layer. we are seeing the high pressure. that's been dominating the forecast the last couple days. here is a quick peek. san jose, 93 degrees. morgan hill, 90s. east san jose, 94. the east bay, this is what we are seeing the higher threats for fire danger. walnut creek, 93, concord, 95. oak larndland, a high of 90. it is going to be in the 90-degree mark. peninsula, criming to the 90s for redwood city. san francisco, a high of 87 degrees. so, keep that in mind if you have plans to head over to the beach. it is going to be a great beach day and hot. as usual, don't leave pets or anything you care about in the vehicle. look out for one another.

north bay, 93 degrees. navato, 94. san francisco will be opening cooling centers. we have that information on our website, www.nbcbayarea.com. let's talk about the wind speeds. not a factor, but we have been tracking the bursts of gusts. they are very light, but could play a factor when it comes to the low humidity and high temperatures with that fire danger. over the next two days, we are expecting that ridge of high pressure to move out east. over the next 24 hours, it is going to sit over the area. that's going to bring the elevated fire danger for the highlighted areas. a quick peek of the relative low humidities. concord, 23. santa rosa, 22. it's going to stay that way for tonight. we are expecting to climb into those upper 80s. that's going to keep us on track for the red flag warning. as it has winds pick up in the afternoon, expect to see them coming up about 10-25 miles per hour.

by tonight, it will expire by 5:00. the next seven days, as the system moves out, another system, a nice marine layer that is going to cool us down to the 70s for san francisco. 69 by friday. 70 by saturday. as we head over to the inland spots, we are talking 94 degrees for today. thursday, 92. by friday, 83 degrees with a more pleasant weekend ahead. we have to get through the next couple days with the dry heat. mike? >> we'll look at the short sleeved suit in my closet. maybe i'll make one. looking at the bay bridge. a smooth drive. light nor the bay bridge. i was tracking on the map an issue reported at the treasure island off ramp, but it's not there. the onramp to westbound 80. folks getting on to that stretch before 101. that is no longer a problem for the bridge itself. a disabled vehicle should be cleared quickly. there was a back up at the bay bridge toll plaza. i will double check and no

problems as far as the speed sensors into the south bay, including 101 through morgan hill. 17 over the summit. ten minutes away for the mcarture station. i got word that cleared, should be good recovery. minor delays for a couple trains for a couple minutes. fremont, a shot over here. easy drive for 880. mallory is where everybody is headed to the dunkin' donuts. >> bart begins work on modernizing the station in the east bay. bart will update station lighting, build new stairwells, elevators and restrooms. bart and city officials will kick off that project in sell brax. we reached out to bart about other construction. concord station, they are about half way done there. construction downtown is expected to last several years.

work on pow powell street in san francisco will begin next month. construction on the 19th street oakland station will start early next year. 4:48. new details now. recreation marijuana sales get the green light starting january 1st. one place that won't be happening soon will be san francisco. yesterday, supervisors agreed to put things on hold until new city regulations can be approved. one sticky point is the racial and economic equality. open medical dispensaries will have to apply for 120 day permits while the rules are finalized. as we have been reporting, bay city areas have been holding meetings for rules on recreation marijuana. today, more gan hill is taking up the issue. they will hold study sessions tonight at 5:30 at city hall. uc berkeley campus is a political battleground.

www.nbcbayarea.com/weinvestigate . the federal government is accused of improperly detaining pregnant immigrants in california, texas and washington state. a complaint has been filed by the aclu and other groups. they are asking the department of homeland security to investigate ten cases. one woman had a miscarriage while in custody. others say they did not get medical care. one bay area city wants to give parents universal child care the way san francisco hopes to get moms and dads back to work. happening now, rockets explode at kabul afghanistan airport. at least five civilians were hurt. mattis already left the airport when the attack occurred. aerosmith is cancelling the last four shows. steven tyler is back in the u.s. for medical care. he won't say what the problem is, but expects a full recovery. we'll be back with more news.

>> 4:53 on this wednesday morning as we take a live look out in palo alto. highway 101 there. it is 4:53 now. new this morning, universal and affordable day care for any parent who kneneeds it. they asked the city controllers office to look at the cost and benefits of providing child care. they will consider drafting a valid measure to examine possible ways to fund it. anyone who lives here knows how hard it is to rent, let alone buy a home in the bay area. there's a push in san francisco to provide housing for teachers.

today, the city leaders and school district officials will hold a public meeting for educators. earlier, they committed $44 million and a plot of land to provide homes for teachers. the meeting is set to begin at 12:30. also, we reached out to san jose unified district whose teachers start at $55,000 a year. the district tells us they don't have the land to build housing. the only solution is pay teachers more, but the district say that is's a challenge given budget restrictions. california schools are on the hook for $24 billion in costs according to a new report by the legislative office. l.a. unified school district is responsible for half of the costs. they argue good health care is

required for teachers. they are offered less money and skimpier benefits. a study says it will cost $46 million to rehabilitate the 132-year-old tunnel between mill valley and corda madre. the meeting is at the community center at 6:30. meetings held to figure out ways to ease congestion along the dunbar ton. this affects alameda, san mateo. they are looking at a new bridge and possibly using old train truss els. this morning, we know when women in saudi arabia will be allowed to drive. a royal order takes effect in june of 2018. tuesday, the conservative
