good friday morning to you. we have made it through workweek. a live look outside at san jose as we get the morning going. good morning and thanks for joining us, i'm marcus washington. >> i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon today. we want to get you started with the forecast because we know you probably have plans for the weekend. >> you know today is supposed to be the coolest day we have seen this entire week. it's thanks to fog that's hugging the coastline. the temperatures are cooler than we were yesterday at this hour. here is a quick check of the current radar. you can see we have a lot of fog. that is going to blanket and keep us cool throughout the day.

i'll tell you about the workweek ahead. let's check in with mike. >> so far, so slow for friday. in the north bay, a crash. a spin out reported as one car entered 101 at sir francis drake. a smooth drive to the east bay through the bay bridge, no major problems. we'll track it as it builds. back to you. >> thank you very much. 4:31 right now. we are following a developing story, the shooting death of man in north san jose. it's happened in an apartment complex near river oaks parkway. >> bob redell is live at the scene. what have you been able to learn this morning? >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus and kris. this murder took place inside a unit here at the elan apartments. this is a very large luxury

complex located here in north san jose. you can see behind me, the san jose police crime scene unit have been here all night long processing evidence from the seen. police expect to wrap up their work here soon. a sergeant says it happened around 8:40 last night, a call to 911, reports of someone shot. they found a man inside the unit shot at least once. he was pronounced dead later at the hospital. investigators don't know what led up to the shooting, if it was a random crime or if he was targeted. they are trying to identify a suspect. bob redell, "today in the bay." one day after a student was stabbed on campus, students in east san jose are returning to class. we brought it as breaking news yesterday morning. some students tell us the stabbing happened near the gym. two teenagers were detained by

school staff and officers arrested them both. the victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries. >> it is a scary experience knowing that someone got stabbed here. crazy. >> it kind of scares me. i'm still shaking about it. right now, i don't feel safe being here. >> we are waiting on more details of what exactly happened from san jose police. we know, one of the suspects did not attend school in the district. a north bay nanny and ymca worker was arrested for showing a minor pictures she was booked and in possession of child pornography. a mother found the pictures on her son's smartphone. she thought the boy was 14, not 12.

they shared pictures with each other on instagram and snap chat. they don't believe they met nor there are any other victims. happening today, a possible sentencing hearing for a man connected with killing sierra lamar. it's on the docket, but we don't think it is going to happen today. the defense is trying to remove the judge from the case. they say the judge failed to disclose a potential conflict of interest. the attorney says the judge once represented the lead investigator in the case in a prior civil lawsuit. a decision on that is expected later in october. if you are feeling lucky, san jose has a new place to roll the dice. a new and much larger bay 101 casino opens this afternoon. it replaces the current on on north bay street.

this morning, stepping outside, it's certainly cooler. >> it is. >> the cooldown is beginning. >> it's starting. it started last night, but today it's really here. it is nice because i have been teasing folks about the nice weekend. i hope i'm living up to it. judging by the models, we are on the right track to nice, cooler temperatures. right now, 58 degrees in san jose. palo alto, 55. san francisco, 59. yesterday, we were cooler, but we woke up to 50s in the area. marcus, you are correct, we are already feeling that cool down. we will see 80s in the east bay and inland areas. i want to show this quick 24-hour temperature change we are seeing compared to yesterday. san jose, five degrees cooler. livermore, three degrees cooler. it's all thanks to the jet stream that is going to bring the cooldown. already bringing it in. it is going to bring in the return of cloud cover.

if you see cloud cover for the next couple hours, don't be surprised. it will stick around for the weekend. as we head into today's forecast, as i mentioned, we are going to see 80s. look at san jose, a high of 79 for today. east san hoe a, 81. definitely a drop of ten-plus degreeses in areas. antioch, 84 degrees. walnut creek, 82. oakland, yesterday, we had a predicted high of 80, today, 70. for the peninsula, 60s. half-moon bay, 66. san mateo, 74. san francisco's highs topping in the upper 50s and 70s. you are going to need a sweater today. that morning drizzle could play a role in your morning commute. now, the next seven days, a quick look at what to expect. the morning fog is going to creep in. by saturday and sunday, we keep a little cloud cover. but, we are on the right path

instead of four. >> under this policy, visitors could park if they pay. they do not have a time limit, but they have to pay to park there. residents, for them, nothing would change. >> the plan is to roll it out in two neighborhoods. mta will debate that proposal next week. the federal government is requiring states to track vehicle emission. california and seven other states had to sue to get the faa to act. it requires states to track emissions by looking at gas purchased and miles traveled. the feds are implementing the rules, they could repeal them next year. california's top pot regulators get anxious as sales become legal. they say, quote, we all have anxiety. she says she doesn't know why or

welcome back, on this friday morning. good morning. a live look out as san francisco right now. you are watching "today in the bay." >> construction crews are ramping up repairs at the oroville dam way in advance of the next round of winter rain. you might remember it collapsed during heavy rain in february. >> our investigative team uncovered more safety issues that go beyond the spillway, into the dam itself. steven is here to tell us how it could affect the dam. steven. >> reporter: we spent the last

six months reviewing 20 years of reports, memos and scientific papers and records about safety concerns at oroville dam itself. a 15 foot long crack ingate 8. tracking rods or tendons that maneuver the gates themselves and failure to monitor the amount and speed of water that flows through the dam, naturally. if that water comes out at the wrong speed and in the wrong place, it could wash away the dam entirely, experts say. the department of water resources, the agency in charge of overseeing the dam insist they are not an immediate cause for concern. is the rest of the dam safe? >> yes, i think from today's assessment, inspections, we have, you know, structural engineers looking at those cracks. today, yes, obviously, we need

to keep monitoring. we need to improve our maintenance program. >> reporter: we spoke with several former state engineers saying dwr is not doing enough to address the problems. the insiders told us, if nothing is done, disaster could be imminent. when i show you that, what does it say as an engineer? >> we have a problem. it manifested itself to a great problem and a crisis. >> you are going to have a catastrophic structural failure. not allow you to operate the way it's supposed to. >> the department of water resources asked federal and state investigators to assess the overall safety. they insist, for now, the dam is safe, even after admitting they never expected the spillway to fail like it did in february.
