hurricane maria's direct hit. adding to the problem, the containers with much-needed supplies are stuck at the port of san juan. gabe gutierrez is there. good morning. >> reporter: the reason many of the containers are still here is because of communications nightmare. there's no power, no fuel, and drivers aren't showing up to get the supplies. the acting homeland security secretary is set to visit puerto rico, this as the trump administration is pushing back hard that growing criticism that the federal government was caught off guard. this morning at san juan's phoeupb port, critical supplies are just sitting there and not getting to the people who need them in the wake of hurricane maria. >> we have not scaled up quick enough. russel honore says maria is a much bigger challenge. and the trump administration

isn't doing enough. >> we have to do better than we were doing now, otherwise we're not going to get this done and people are going to suffer. >> reporter: the white house says there are enough people on the ground, including relief workers and troops. >> our message to the people of puerto rico is this. the president is behind you. >> reporter: the president tweeting, fema and first responders are doing a great job in puerto rico. docks and electric grid, dead. elaine duke is flying into puerto rico today. >> i'm very satisfied. >> reporter: at the cruise port, we saw mounting frustration thousands of evacuees standing in sweltering heat for hours waiting to board a cruise ship. >> you literally cannot get off this island. if the ship did not show up i would not be home until the middle of october.

morning. so much of this park even after eight days remains open this morning. dramatic video captures the terrifying moment a wall of dust and boulders thundering down yosmite's yosmite's el capitan. the white crowd crashing 3,000 feet to the valley floor. drivers watching as rocks come careening down the face of el cap. it's the second rock fall in as many days, striking without warning, at the peak of climbing season. >> we need that ambulance. >> reporter: the falling rock injuring one man. taken first by ambulance and then flown out of the park. the roadway below el cap, cut off. the dust making it impossible to see. at the summit, three climbers breathing a sigh of relief. >> we honestly wondered if the entire side of the wall we were

standing on was going to collapse. it was horrific. >> reporter: the slide, leaving a gaping hole in the monolith's southeast face. it comes one day after a rock fall killed 32-year-old andrew foster of wales. his wife suffering serious injuries, airlifted out of the park. the national park service says this latest rock slide was significantly bigger than the first. >> it's huge. ten times bigger than the first. at least. >> reporter: el cap, one of the most challenging climbs in the world, is a top destination for those living on the edge. rock falls happen at yosemite about 80 times a year. but it's unclear what triggered the latest slides. >> reporter: park rangers say rock slides are about every day

life here in yosemite. and despite the new rock slides, there's no increased threat. the park remains open. and at this very hour, there's climbers ascending that mountain slap behind me. >> miguel, thank you. there's a lot more to get to this morning, including the growing controversy around health and human service secretary tom price. he is apologizing for taking charter flights at taxpayer expense, but will that be enough to save his job? hallie jackson is here this morning. >> reporter: this morning, the mea culpa from secretary price comes amid growing controversy of his plane rides. and now new details about what else he did overseas, and all that has his career hitting turbulence. >> this morning, a pricey payback. >> we heard the concerns. >> reporter: health and human service tech tear tom price doing damage control after his

expensive plane travel. some $400,000 worth of charter at times, mixed government business with personal visits. and now, new word, price wracked up another $500,000 by using military jets on an overseas work trip, along with his wife. the health and human services committee says price covered her bill. he's underscoring the difference between those and a domestic charter that invite fare scrutiny. now, putting price in an uncomfortable spotlight. >> i look forward to regaining the trust that some of the american people may have lost in the activities that i took. >> reporter: the secretary now says he will only travel commercial. no exceptions. and will pay back money for his seat on those private planes. about $51,000, part of the total cost. the controversial threatening price's place in the presidency. >> i work at the pleasure of the

russian-linked ads on the social network, executives of twitter find themselves on the hot seat. what's going on? >> reporter: twitter faced off with congressional investigators for the first time on capitol hill, with more information on how the russians may have attempted to influence the 2016 election. but what the company revealed infuriated lawmakers who want much more. this morning a grim revelation from twitter, the social media platform revealing 201 accounts linked to russian operatives. in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election. after staying relatively silent on any role in the election, twitter executives disclosed new information to congressional investigators. >> this is a vulnerability we need to deal with. >> twitter found the accounts by looking at 450 accounts that facebook linked to russia. 22 also operated on twitter. from those, they found another 179 related users. the company says it's taking action on the accounts that

violated its rules. twitter disclosing that kremlin-linked tv network, russia today, known as r.t., spent nearly $275,000 on twitter ads in 2016. key lawmakers are not satisfied. >> their response was frankly inadequate in almost every level. >> reporter: more questions will be asked on november 1st before an open hearing in front of the intelligence committee. twitter, facebook and google have been invited to give more information, but none have said whether they're going to attend. founder of facebook, mark zuckerberg, responding wednesday that facebook is against him and making an about-face on his post-election remarks. >> the idea that fake news on facebook, of which, it's a very small amount of the content, influenced the election in any way, i think is a pretty crazy

idea. >> reporter: zuckerberg now says calling that crazy was dismissive and i regret it. this week, facebook is also in the process of handing over 3,000 russia-linked ads to robert mueller and congressional investigators. >> this is going to be part of the oversight? how soon did they discover how their platforms were being used? >> reporter: twitter says that overall it is concerned about violations of their rules, along with u.s. law, with respect to interference in voting rights. a lot of drama going down on capitol hill. guys? >> jo, thank you. we are learning more this morning about an arrest that could help solve a murder in indiana that we have been following for a while now. and sheinelle is here this morning. >> the killing of two teenage girl made national headlines. one of their cell phones capturing a voice saying, down the hill. a man in colorado is being investigated for a possible link to the murders. back in february, two best friends, 13-year-old abbe williams, and 14-year-old

liberty german, went missing in delphi, indiana. their bodies were found in nearby woods the next day. it's a murder that stumped investigators and tormented family members. the girls left behind clues, including a photo that could be their killer. and this short but haunting audio clip. now, an arrest 1,000 miles away may provide a break in the case. daniel nations was arrested by police in colorado on monday after he allegedly threatened several people with a hatchet near a hiking area in mt. herman. when police pulled over his car with expired indiana license plates, they say they found a gun. >> he's a registered sex offender and that makes it a felon and illegal for him to possess weapons. >> reporter: colorado police are trying to determine if he had anything to do with the shooting death of a mountain biker in the same area. >> we are investigating to see

if there's any links. it happened that the complaints of the menacing charges happened the same weekend of our homicide. >> reporter: it's this mug shot from a previous arrest that has police investigating whether he had something to do with the murders of the two girls. a citizen alerted the media that it looked similar to a picture in that case. >> that side by side sketch and pho photo was given to us, who gave it to an indiana state patrol. >> reporter: indiana state police said, we are aware of the arrest of the person in colorado, and investigating if he can be a suspect in the delphi murder investigation. but right now, there's nothing that connects this person to our investigation. the families of the girls are cautiously optimistic. >> every time something like this comes up, we hope and we pray.

"today in the bay's" bob redell was there all morning and a crime scene team was still processing evidence there. authorities are not saying whether they believe the victim was targeted or a random attack. let's look at the weekend forecast. >> we have cloudy conditions in san francisco right now at 59 degrees. we are going keep that cloud

better way to test helmets to prevent those concussions and now they say they have finally figured it out. this morning you're about to see that new test in action. across the country, kids back on the football fields. on the sidelines. anxious parents. according to safe kids, over 160,000 kids and teens went to the e.r. with a sports-related concussion in just one year. that's one concussion every three minutes. football the leading cause. for decades, this is the way they tested helmets to make sure they're safe. but starting now, a brand-new test and experts say it's a game changer. we are at this special helmet lab where they are testing helmets from both the nfl and also youth helmets. the kind of helmets your kids wear on the football field at school. to make sure they'll meet the new standard. this is steve from the lab and

this is the lab manager, sarah. let's hit that first test. this is the test and this will come up right now and drop down that has been used for all of these years by itself. explain what's happening here. >> this is the linear drop test. what it essentially does is evaluates helmets to make sure they'll protect the head from skull fracture upon impact. >> it's testing not sort of a neck turning, just a hit like this. >> this has been used for decades, but a little bit one dimensional. >> this will come down right now. we're going to watch it. there it is. that's a big hit. >> yeah. >> take a look in slow motion. the head barely moving. for doctors say it doesn't simulate a real football hit with a neck twist. >> if you take a blow to the side of the head, especially far forward or far backward. you're going to spin the head on the neck. like that. it's the type of injuries that lead to concussions. >> okay, so, this is the new test. what's happening here? >> this is the pneumatic head
