6:01 am
enough to crank those windshield wipers at some point stho it will be but most people won't be out on the roads it will be late tonight and into the start of the morning tomorrow. most of us will be sleeping at that point. look at how far north it is now as we get a look at the radar and some of the showers moving out of washington into oregon and you can see the trail of those clouds starting to approach far northwestern california. while it may not be until 4:30 when we see some of the rain in santa rosa. you are going to see some of the lighter showers about i this evening's commute with some of the heavier downpours by about 8:00 to 9:00 tonight. san francisco seeing some light rain and then it moves into the east bay and south bay around midnight and we will start to see that winding down very quickly for early tomorrow morning. we will talk about temperatures, how much rain we can see, a lot to talk about and the weekend forecast in just a few minutes, but mike is tracking the drive across the bay bridge. a little bit better now, kari, it's in what i call recovery mode after the earlier incident.

all around the bay we are just starting to see south bay, tri-valley and the east bay, hayward, for example, show a little slowing, traditional there. the bay bridge itself completely moving smoothly now through the treasure island tunnel, the earlier stall cleared 20 minute out of lanes over by the bay bridge toll plaza itself. the toll plaza doesn't show any major issues. metering lights look like they are back on again on regular speed and we are looking at 14 minutes, that's ten minutes better than the last time we checked, travel time across from oakland into san francisco, again, all lanes in the bay bridge clear from that disabled vehicle. now to the latest developments on several wildfires burning across the bay area from the santa cruz mountains to the north bay, firefighters continue making progress this morning. right now the so-called bear fire is 15% contained and stands at 300 acres. this is providing -- proving to be, rather, a tough battle for fire crews. seven firefighters have been injured so far, evacuation

6:04 am
able to move, you know, where you just have to sit and be with all of this, you know, and wait and wait and wait. >> reporter: a hot shot crew from montana arrived just yesterday and there are now nearly 900 firefighters on the bear fire. so also from the air with all of those great retardant drops we've seen there are also now a dozen helicopters dropping water on the fire. crews now have, as you said, containment lines built around about 15% of the fire which is now burned 300 acres as of last night. we're hoping to get an update here in about the next hour. my sister and sister-in-law live just up the road on one of those winding roads. they, too, have been packed and waiting to go. so this is good news that they are starting to get the upper hand on the fire down here hoping for cooler temperatures and that rain you were talking about of course. live in boulder creek, tom jensen, "today in the bay." >> so many people waiting to hear those good news items. thank you, thom.
