together, we're building a better california. m welcome to friday morning. some places already seeing that rain that kari was talking about. a live look at the golden gate bridge. you can see out there. be careful as you head out the door. thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. kari has been telling us about the rain all week. >> light off and on. have the umbrella in the backseat somewhere close by in case you get caught in one of those shower that is will be with us throughout the day, but not all day. we will see some showers moving through, taking a break right now for most of the north bay with spotty, light rain there. as we zoom into the east bay, more steady downpours moving through hayward, dublin,

pleasanton, and more. in san jose, downtown is dry but moving to the north. we will continue to monitor the showers as they continue to move through not only the morning, but the weekend. i'll have more on that. mike, the nimitz is affected by the rain. >> this is the oakland camera. the water is picking up. it is making rooster tail behind the car. be careful. it will be tough for traction. on the map, it's not just oakland as kari was talking about. the north bay, the golden gate bridge live shot in san francisco. we see the green highlighting in the maze and the nimitz into fremont. as soon as i hit the border between fremont and milpitas, it stops. the traffic is slow, looking great. i have a crash involving a big rig in the north bay. i'll give you that update coming

up. the upcoming storm. communities in the north bay fire zones are concerned about the impact the rain will have. the rain could unleash toxins into the burned out neighborhoods. in sonoma, concerns environmentists and riz dents have. >> it's devastating to see everything gone. >> reporter: sonoma county fire victims are struggling to come to terms with everything lost. they are hoping to find personal moe mentos. >> the rain is going to change that. it's going to change what is there and what's possible to be found, even tiny scraps of things. >> reporter: water quality experts are making plans, too. they are concerned about rain washing toxic ash and debris into 600 streams in the burn

him. officers were not sure if he was armed and believe he would have been a threat to people in the neighboring homes. the suspect's family called the police that day. they believe they needed mental assistance. >> what i saw was flat-out murder. they said they tased him. i never saw a tazing. i never saw nothing. i saw him in the bushes getting shot. >> the family filed a wrongful death suit playing out. the d.a. did not issue a comment along with yesterday's announcement. a 44-year-old woman is behind bars following the brawl in great america this weekend. she was arrested after she used a stun gun on a 16-year-old girl in a fight with her daughter. she is the third person to be arrested after the halloween haunt last saturday. 20 reports were filed with the police in connection with that

night alone. a popular san francisco blog is no more. sf was abruptly shut down. the announcement was made. it is the new york blog that sf is created after. the website was known for the off the wall news stories, restaurant reviews. the millionaire ceo says the company wasn't making enough progress in support of the growing amount of the vote to unionize, which the ceo is against. we have been telling you about meetings to of a plan to manage bikes. they figured it out. caltrain will provide biking stations. the agency is hiring dedicated project manager and will oversee the bike issues. 6,000 bikes are brought on board every day.

by the hurricane. the dow rise zing 81 points, the nasdaq slipped one point to 6714. you can watch shares of apple today. they are jumping premarket in the trading after the company reported quarterly earnings last night that blew past wall street's forecast. apple sold 47 million iphones in the third quarter and, of course, today, the iphone x goes on sale worldwide. the ceo, tim cook, is predicting record sales, which includes the holiday shopping season. that suggests consumers are more than willing to put down a thousand bucks for a high-end smartphone. grocery fresh is shutting down in five states, including california. customers in new jersey, delaware, pennsylvania and california saying service will no longer be offered in their area later this month. amazon says fresh will serve new york, boston and chicago.

morning. i was telling marcus, we are here. we have to make it through the day. >> we are going to do it. >> and you are making it through the day with rain. we start out with some of the streets and your car is wet this morning. hopefully your windshield wipers are working. you didn't wait until the rain started falling to make sure they are all good to go. we are already starting to see the showers moving in this morning. at times the rain will be rolling through and giving us breaks. right now, in san francisco, only spotty, light showers right now. as we work toward the east bay, emeryville, berkeley and out of oakland, the showers are lifting to the north. walnut creek, this is moving toward concord to the north and east. we are going to see, at times, these showers and a few pockets of heavier rain. that's what we are seeing in the tri-valley as of now. moving closer to san ramon and

north up 580 as of now. those roads are already wet. it's wet in san jose as we have seen earlier showers moving in. now, much of the activity is off to the east. as we look at redwood city, east palo alto, the rain just moved through. you are going to catch a little bit of a break. as we look at today's forecast, the high temperatures reaching the low to mid-60s. a much cooler day. only 66 degrees in antioch while half-moon bay will be at 61 degrees. getting dressed this morning, you can look out the window, see the showers or at least the remnants of the rain. make sure you have the umbrella. dust that off for a nice warm rain jacket that will keep you dry as the day goes along. want to make sure that is handy even if it's not raining. a good day for the long sleeves and time to break out the boots to keep your feet nice and dry. rainy off and on, but not raining all day. here is a look at the way it

plays out for the future cast. it shows we are going to have, at times, spotty showers. you will be able to keep checking the nbc bay area app to see exactly where the rain is and where it's headed. as we go into tonight, we are going to see more showers moving through, wrapping up by tomorrow morning. then we'll have a break by tomorrow afternoon before the next round of rain moves in. sunday night into early monday. the rainfall potential, with both systems, it's light, up to close to .2 inch for san jose and close to.25 for the north bay. as we look at the rest of the forecast, we fall back on sunday morning. as laura brought to my attention, you gain an hour of sleep. off and on showers next week. the next round arrives wednesday into thursday. mike starts with an alert in the north bay. >> in addition to the wet roadways. folks are getting out of the area. here is american canyon.

getting over here into fairfield, reports of a crash. only one lane open. it's been like that for a few minutes here. we haven't seen the slowing pick up. it will be there at the scene, just after 680. that is one issue getting out of the area. i-80 to the sierra, bring your change if that's where you are going this weekend. meanwhile, wet roadways around the bay. see the green here? that's not just the green sensors. they are blending in with the wet roadways. it's active through the tri-valley. the live camera in dublin shows light traffic but the off ramp, see the slick roadway? that's the reason we say watch the first rain because of the grease on the roadways. back to you. >> thanks, mike. in cities across america, including san francisco, leaders are trying to save public housing by selling to private companies. >> what does the change mean to seniors and people with

disabilities living in those homes? bigad shaban has been digging into it. >> why companies renovate buildings and manage them. public housing is in need of $26 billion worth of improvement. the federal government hopes offering tax credits will lure private investors to improve the buildings. over the past two years, 55% of san francisco public housing, that's 3400 apartments sold to nonprofits. our investigation revealed after the buildings are sold, the new owners aren't always given all the records and documentation to show exactly what needs to be repaired in the building, which can delay improvement for the low-income residents living inside. the federal government ranks san francisco public housing among the worst in america for years.

suspect's jeans. here is a district attorney spokesperson. >> whether the gun was in the clothing is relevant to whether he intended to pull the trigger. that is the evidence. >> there are a lot of pockets that gun could have fit in. this is a new theory. they never bothered to test the pockets for gunshot residue. >> the defense attorney there. as i mentioned, he will have a turn next week as he claims the shooting was accidental. a gathering of fire victims, neighbors and the entire community is happening near the heart of santa rosa at the old courthouse. it was to mark the beginning of the rebuilding of the deadly fires last month. live music, food and, of course, wine. the parking garages are offering free parking. sonoma strong event is organized by firefighters and santa rosa
