heavier from the afternoon to evening. looking at the timing, we will start to see wet weather across the north baby the morning commute and approaching san francisco later this morning. once again, very light activity. the heavier stuff holds off until later this afternoon and evening. i'll have more on that. mike, you are already tracking a crash on the east shore freeway? >> i am. the rain hasn't reached that area yet. we have a fender bender or something reported. that just came in. i have to get more detail. no slowing shows up there. no slowing where there's a number of vehicles. it's sween cutting and carlson. everything is isolated out of the traffic lanes. no slowing showed up. that was reported a few minutes ago. we'll track the rest of the bay. a light, easy drive. we are watching whatever developed at the bay bridge. i'll check with chp.

back to you. >> thanks, mike. mountainview police are looking for more victims after a high school teacher was arrested. >> bob redell is live with the accusations that teacher is facing this morning. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. police arrested a mountainview high school teacher and accused him of sending inappropriate texts to a student. his name is evan smith. police are not releasing details of the text message he sent. he taught math at mountainview high. he's an paid administrative leave as the police investigate the allegation. in a joint press release, the high school district indicated it became aware of the alleged communications this past monday afternoon and immediately be gan to investigate. the district and police are asking parents to reach out to them if they think their child received any inappropriate communications.

live in mountainview, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks for that update. happening now, health warning at fremont dog park. a dog may have been diagnosed with a bacteria. it is essential dog park along stevenson boulevard. it is shut down this morning. the warning says crews will do extra cleaning. the park was scheduled to be closed this week for routine maintenance. kris sanchez is headed there and will join us with a live report at 5:30. more details, we researched a bacteria. it lives in water and soil. you get it from coming into contact with the water. it can be transmitted to humans. san mateo police want you to look at this sketch on your screen. that suspect tried to kidnap a

14-year-old girl in september. the near abduction happened in the area of peninsula avenue and the railroad tracks. police discovered a 16-year-old girl was also approached by this man who matched the same deskripgs. look at your screen. the killing and shooting of a concord high school student. we are waiting to learn more about the five people arrested and the motive. the memorial keeps growing for 17-year-old lawrence janson. he was gunned down outside olympic high school. police say the security video from the school captured the suspects, they are adults and minors. the suspected shooter is an adult. they have the gunman or have the handgun used in that shooting and the get away car. the defense in the kate steinle murder case is expected to continue their case today. yesterday, one witness took the stand. they had a video enhancement

expert show jurors this video the prosecution was showing was flawed. it was taken from a fire boat. they say it's bad quality. it showed the defendant appearing to bend over seconds before steinle drops to the pavement. the prosecution says that's what garcia zarate had been saying. >> that is consistent with the statement he saw something in a rag, picked it up and it went off. >> follow us on twitter where during the day, we are tweeting the latest on the trial as it happens. if you always thought you needed more space to tweet your thoughts, that wish has been answered. a look at twitter increases the number of characters were users worldwide. with the holiday season around the corner, a company looking to hire thousands of seasonal workers here in the bay area.

shares of snap today are down sharply in premarket trading after snapchat reported disappointing results. they struggle with fewer people signing up. the ceo says snapchat will redesign it to be like facebook and twitter. it is popular with teenagers might be too difficult to understand or to use. this is out this morning, snap is getting a new investment turning into an internet giant. twitter rolled out 280 character tweets to users worldwide following a testing period. longer tweets will be the standard in every language except chinese, japanese and korean where the 140 character limit will still apply. asian languages put thoughts into fewer characters. testing shows most people are

a live look outside at dublin a very good wednesday morning to you. half way through the workweek. a live look outside at dublin this morning where we are expecting rain. we are going to check in with kari. she's tracking the storms coming our way. when we get the break, when we have to take the umbrella. finally the season, i suppose. >> it is the season. we are going to see things getting more active for the next 24 hours with rain moving in. here is a look at the radar. i want to show you the clouds.

we are seeing mostly cloudy skies this morning. you can see the green on there indicating the rain that is moving closer to parts of sonoma county. we are going to see this rainmaking its way into the bay area as the morning goes along. you can check out the seven day forecast at the bottom of the screen showing the rain over the next several days and cooler temperatures. it is a little milder this morning thanks to the cloud cover and we are now in the mid-50s for san jose. north bay in the low to mid-40s. yesterday, we were in the upper 30s at this time. it is a little bit warmer as you head out. still, you need a nice, warm jacket. the high temperatures today reaching the mid to upper 60s for much of the bay area from san jose up to 66 to 59 degrees in santa rosa. cooler there. make sure you have something nice and warm to wear as you look at the clos set. a good way to dress, grab the umbrella, dust it off and get it

away from the door. put it in the backseat of the car. you will need it later on today. a good day for boots or shoes that might get wet later today and you don't mind them doing so. as we look at the forecast for today, we'll start to see some of the lighter showers in advance of the cold front moving in as we go into early afternoon. then we start to see the heavier rain here by later on tonight. this looks like it will come in with gusty winds and also times of heavy rain, some spotty, light showers throughout the day tomorrow and also early on friday. so, we are going wrap up the week with times of rain and then it also clears out by friday afternoon. i want to show you the winds. this will be important for today with those winds picking up from the south, rushing into that cold front. that is going to bring down a lot of leaves and possibly small tree branches with the winds sustained at 25 to, at times, 30 miles per hour. then, we'll start to see the

wind shifting as we go into late tonight and early tomorrow. it's going to be windy today. showers off and on. the heavier rain arriving this evening. temperatures reaching low 60s. over the next several days, off and on showers, drying out for saturday and another storm system moving in on sunday. so, not much of a break here with all clear weather only on saturday. now, as we head over to mike, an update for the bay bridge. >> that's right. we had reports of the crash that came in at the set here. it was no big deal at the bay bridge. no lanes blocked there. the earlier crash between cutting and carlson, all that activity cleared as far as chp is cleared. this is a great drive right now, north bay to the city as well as over to the east bay, the bay bridge. here are the sensors up on either side of the bay. a good ride on the roadways. we have to call out that vallejo ferry at 8:15 substituted with

bus service. that is the note today. everything else running with no problem. that's great news. the bus service shouldn't cause a delay. we are looking at the peninsula camera where we have the off ramp closed at willow. the construction project in the area, the southbound side should see striping going on. i don't see slowing going on out of memo park. >> thank you, mike. 4:48. the recent deadly fires made us look at fire prevention. >> specifically, how cal fire is doing on that front. here is liz wagner on what she found. >> reporter: good morning, critics sacral fire, the main fire agency is great at putting fires out, but not very good at preventing them. bill stewart says cal fire staff is made up of firefighters who lack the scientific background and expertise to coordinate a

expected to attend a memorial service on the peninsula for three young friends that died in a car crash. here is a picture of them. matthew is on the left of your screen, andrew on the right and ricky tor res in the back. they died when their car went off skyline boulevard, down an embankment. the service starts at 6:00. now to the opioid crisis. the take back of unused pills day. now, it happens saturday, october 28. that's when the dea allowed people to drop off unused pills. more than 31,000 pills were turned in in the bay area. statewide, 70,000 pounds. that was the highest number in the country. california is the most popular, texas close behind with 67,000 pills. north dakota had the least at

♪ problem with the i-r-s. nbc bay area responds to a san hoe accouple who had a problem with the irs. as you can imagine, that can be a tough battle to fight and it was. >> a couple returned to our response team. >> mike and kathleen say they never received a $4300 refund the irs owed them from 2015. they say the irs insisted it mailed the refund check. in fact, it went so far as to provide a copy of a cashed check. here is the thing. the check was not their refund. it was actually made out to a different taxpayer who lived in a different city. bottom line, all this got very, very messy. they reached out to us for pem. we contacted the irs and the couple received their $4300 refund check. federal law prohibits the irs

morning, early afternoon, starting out with light showers. we are going hold off with the heavy stuff. the radar is moving in. download that nbc bay area app so you can track the rain as well. let me show you the timing as we go through 6:30, 7:00, we see more rain moving into napa, sonoma and marin counties and solano county as well this morning. light showers to start. the heavier rain and gusty winds for this afternoon. i'll talk more about this and a look at how much we could see coming up. we head over to mike, flashing lights in oakland. >> we saw them going northbound. they went on the shoulder, then the live shot. north of high street. still moving, no scheduled closures through the area. look at the map. shouldn't see problems or slowing here. the bay bridge, a build up at the incline. it turned from green to orange. more slowing suddenly the last few minutes. ll
