if it wasn't with, smile about it this morning. >> hopefully we can do that. the weather looks good. the south bay, a dry day. san francisco, so soggy, you will be like, i can't believe it's sunny in the south bay. that's the kind of weather we'll have today. right now, not a lot going on here. very spotty, light rain. let me show you how it pans out through the day. hit or miss showers in the north bay. then we see a little more moisture rolling in, ramping up, moving in from parts of the golden gate bridge and farther to the north. north bay, santa rosa, napa, walnut creek and livermore may have a little rain today. don't expect a lot of that to move into the south bay. parts of the bay area getting wet and that may affect the drive. as you get ready head out, how is it looking now in the north bay? mike? >> we had problems in the north bay. i can't say because of the wet roads, but watch them in the north bay. over here, the rest of the bay shows a great drive.

a fender bender reported off 238. i'm tracking that. no problems for caster valley now. improving speeds from 780 to the carquinez bridge. you have slowing from highway 37. now, we have more traffic pushing over across 37 and may be complications. a new crash reported at 121. i i'm going to track it. back to you. >> thank you. following breaking news from overnight in the south bay. on hour's long stand off eventually comes to an end in a san jose neighborhood. bob redell is live at the scene along holly drive near the san jose country club this morning. the call police were responding to before the stand off started. bob? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. this was a dispute over parking, according to san jose police that escalated when one of the people involved, a woman, brought out a gun and pointed it at neighbors.

she surrendered peacefully two and a half hours ago. here is video of that surrender. you are looking at video that took pla took place arnds 3:30. they shined a bright light on her as she put her hands up and gave up. she was taken into custody after being holed up on the 3300 block of holly drive. last night, around 5:50, a 911 call came in as two people were fighting. this woman was upset over something that had to do with a parking situation on the street. she was so angry, as i mentioned, at one point, she came outside with a gun and started pointing it at them, then went inside. police evacuated several nearby homes. they called out the merge unit, san jose's version of s.w.a.t. they had deployed a robot to approach the home. she surrenders peacefully and is in police custody with charges of branding a possession of a firearm.

bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you for that update. developing this morning, a new problem emerging for victims of the north bay wildfires. a busy road in a neighborhood that was damaged in the fires is closed this morning as crews assess damage from the fire storm. we learned the underground drainage pipes were damaged by the fire. now, there are concerns of flooding and mudslides. >> pete suratos is live in santa rosa with what is being done to prevent at disaster. pete? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. as you mentioned, the underground piping is a cause of concern for officials in the area. we are at cross creek road. this area has been closed since yesterday due to potential of sinkholes with the wet weather rolling in. we have video of the damaged pipe. they were surveilling the area, getting prepped for the potential of mudslides in the area. all together, they found eight sections of piping damaged in the fountain grove area.

they reactivated the emergency operation center in santa rosa. you have the mayor saying he will take any necessary measures to keep folks safe. >> if that gets to the point where it's mudslides or main roads are compromised, we are going to ask people to leave the area. i hope that doesn't happen. it doesn't sound like the rain that is coming is that severe. >> reporter: it's dry so for this morning. a sinkhole did open yesterday in the fountain grove area. crews were able to fix it, but are keeping an eye on other areas, such as cross creek road, the area we are standing. crews identified 20 trouble spots like this in santa rosa. live in santa rosa, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thanks for the latest, pete. 6:05. developing this morning, hundreds are dead after a

powerful 7.3 earthquake on the border of iraq and iran. it centered 200 miles from baghdad. authorities in iraq say seven people died with more than 500 injured. in afghanistan over 300 dead. it's feared those numbers will go up. an investigation into a death on board a ship docked at the port of richmond. the u.s. coast guard says the crew member working on a chemical tanker accidentally died sunday. it's the argent sunrise flagged from panama. south san francisco, near san bruno, 44-year-old teresa gonzalez attended a concert when an uber driver came to pick her up, she was struck by a passing

car trying to cross the street. the driver of that car took off. friends are demanding justice. >> i will never stop. anybody in this neighborhood that knows me, knows that i mean that. i will make sure that we catch whoever did that to her. that woman did not deserve to be left in the street like that. >> south san francisco police are looking for a black, 1998-2000 toyota or lexus with damage to the front end or hood. president trump is announcing a trade agreement. president trump attended a summit in the philippines. he's urging balance in the trade. >> we have deficits with almost everybody. they are going to be cut quickly and substantially. >> there were protests outside of the summit. the white house says human rights came up briefly when president trump met with the president of the philippines.

the two leaders focused on trade, isis and the war on drugs. we are seeing clouds, clear, but dry. a soggy morning as you head down toward san francisco. the roads may be wet. as we look at the school day forecast for santa rosa, mostly cloudy and the recess may be inside today because of off and on rain and by 1:00, we'll only be in the lower 60s. a cool and wet day for parts of the bay area. don't expect a lot of rain in san jose. i'll talk about san jose's temperature trend coming up in four minutes. mike has an update on the crash on the nimitz. >> over here, we are looking at the rest of the bay, an easy drive. a crash over there near the hayward area. indeed, it is northbound 880. the off ramp hasn't prevented a

problem and it is clear. we are going to remove it. there is the build off 238, standard past the san mateo bridge. getting toward the bay bridge, we have a build, 20 minutes from highway 4 to the back up at berkeley curve. we have a slower drive, slower than expected. the crash at the carquinez is cleared. coming up, an iphone glitch. the reason you might want to keep your phone out of the cold weather as we head into the winter months. high-tech loses a very important ally. we'll tell you about that when "today in the bay" continues.

good monday morning, 6:12. we are seeing a mix of clouds as the sunrises over the hills, starting with dry weather. let's go to willow glen. good morning, temperatures upper 50s at 10:00. a mix of sun and clouds, up to 69 degrees. warmer than where we should be. as we head through the week, several more storm systems moving in. i'll talk about what's ahead coming up in five minutes. that bottom number looks bad, but not as bad as z it could be. it's standard. a crash at highway 121 cleared. that's good news. >> thanks, mike. 6:12. the san carlos city counsel will

discuss plans to bring a gun store to the city. turner's outdoorsman plans to open a store. they have followed all the requirements so far. the project is at a standstill because the city counsel wants to review a moratorium for stores selling firearms. 6:13. apple is reportedly working on a software fix for the iphone x this morning following reports the screen becomes unresponsive in cold weather. some owners of the device said they were able to get the screen working again after locking and unlocking it. apple's website recommends use zing it between 32 and 95 degrees. very cold conditions should shorten the battery life and could cause the phone to turn off. tesla expected to unveil long awaited semitruck on thursday, which has been

delayed, as the company deals with production of the mode el 3. elon musk says it will blow your mind clear out of your skull. >> i don't know about that one. >> i guess he likes it. not much is known. it will resemble a futuristic concept said to be environmentally friendly. >> i like my mind intact. 6:14 now. one of the more liberal members of the u.s. senate is calling for regulation of silicon valley's social networks. >> al franken has been a good ally for high-tech. >> it appears he may have had enough. facebook and twitter have spooked lawmakers over the way they mishandled and contributed to the way russians were able to influence our presidential election. in an op-ed over the weekend, franken said, quote, the platforms big tech designed may be so large and unruly, we can't trust the companies to get it right when they do start paying

attention. while senator franken frets about the way facebook and other companies damaged the democracy, facebook's ceo says opioids are divided america. he spoke to students. >> this stuff is really upsetting to talk about. one man told me that he was with his friend who was shooting up and started to overdose. all that he could think about was i wonder who that guy's dealer is because that must be really good stuff. >> he's been on a nationwide tour meeting with farmers, police officers and others. he says he's not running for office. the stock markets fell on friday. qualcomm says they don't want broad com to pay $103 billion. it's not enough.

i know you are hoping i will talk tax policy because nothing is better than tax talk on monday. the latest proposal is to tax stock. this puts a tax on shares they give you long before you do anything with them. they are popular in silicon valley. it's a little bit like, you know, on the price is right where you win a car? >> right. >> you can't get the car until you pay the tax. this is the same way. you pay the tax now even though the stock is not yours, yet because the company hasn't given it to you. >> that includes the stock options like if they haven't gone public yet? >> stock option, i don't think you can value. that eels a great question. these would be share that is are trading and have a particular value. >> comcast our parent company gave us 100 shares, you have to pay the tax. >> you can't have them yet. >> all right.

there you have it. 6:15 right now. good news in the wake of the wildfires. charles schultz museum is back open. they honored the peanuts comic creator. nbc bay area was there yesterday as it has grand re-opening party was held. the building wasn't damaged in the fire but ash was everywhere. it got inside. the museum director said it took time to clean up. >> first the art that was on the wall had to be taken off. conservists came in to make sure the paper art was fine, then started cleaning the environment. we brought in air scrubbers. >> they used 21 air scrubbers and had them running 24 hours a day for two weeks. after that, a cleaning team was brought in. all that could be herd was everyone saying, good grief. okay, i added that last part.

it's nice. festive. a good christmas, charlie brown. >> in time for the holidays. >> the spokesperson, was she the red-headed girl? >> it's a good day as we start this monday morning. some of us seeing wet weather. others are all dry. it's going to be dry in the south bay today as we take a live look outside at san francisco. you can tell that it's rained a little bit. even though the clouds are starting to part, we are getting some dry weather as of now. i want to show you how much rain we have had to date and how that compares to normal. in santa rosa, we had over two inches of rain. sounds like a lot. normally, we are getting closer to four inches of rain. we are at 58% of normal for our rainfall so far this year. in san francisco, about .8 inch. we should be over two inches of rain. it's been really dry even though we had a few storm systems moving in, they haven't brought

much in the way of rain. livermore is only measuring a quarter of the amount we normally get for this time in november. we have three storm systems set to move in over the next few days. the first one moving in today. mostly rain for san francisco, oakland and farther to the north. the second storm system will bring all of the bay area some rain. that will be moving in on wednesday. there will be a third storm system set to arrive on sunday. as we get a closer look at what's happening now, spotty, light rain. as we get a closer look over the santa cruz mountains, only bringing in spotty showers. for the east bay, hayward, light rain moving in now just enough to spit out some sprinkles. we should see a little more as we go through today and then the next storm system will be moving in for wednesday. this one will, once again, cover the whole bay area. this will tap into subtropical moisture, boost the rainfall amounts and it will also bring

in significant snows for the sierra. we take a break for the end of the week and once again, that third storm system moving in on sunday. it's a good start to the week. temperatures reaching the low to mid-60s. san francisco 62 degrees. dry tomorrow. rain moving in wednesday afternoon into thursday. friday and saturday look dry and then sunday, once again, that third storm system arriving. today, it will be a tale of two bay areas. we will have dry weather in san jose and raining weather in san francisco. so, more on that coming up. as we head over to mike, an update on how those roads are moving. >> let's take a look here a. nice, smooth flow of traffic. maybe surprisingly light for the south bay. that will build right about now, looking at the tri-valley. standard pattern. no surprises for the tri-valley. over here, we have the build. it's been consistent out of bay

to an alameda man whose bank owed him money, but wouldn )t pay. if you are owed money, you probably want it. a man's bank owed him money and they wouldn't pay it. >> we helped him out. chris chmura is here to tell how. >> he closed his bank of america checking account. a problem popped up when a

timeshare company gave him a $249 credit and deposited that money into the closed account. anthony expected bank of america to cut him a check. instead, it offered $105, which, by the way, never arrived. the bank said it was deducting more than $140 because anthony's account was in the red when he closed it. anthony said, no, no, no, i had a zero balance. b of a should have given him all his money. that went nowhere for three mants. he asked us for help. we contacted bank of america and he was told he would get his full $249. in a statement, bank of america said we were made aware the check was for the wrong amount and he had not received the check, we promptly issued new checks for the full amount owed. if you have a consumer complaint, call us, 888-996-tips

thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. kari hall has been telling us what the weather is going to be like. we have your covered. kari. >> yes, we do. we are going to have some wet weather in san francisco, oakland and to the north, that's where the rain will be. san jose, don't expect a lot. it's going to be warmer there. the result, we will see the high temperatures up to 68 degrees. san francisco, soggy, showers moving in later this morning. then, it will clear out for tomorrow. the next round of rain will be much heavier, moving in between wednesday afternoon and early thursday continuing into thursday afternoon. now, we are looking at all week long in the bay area, times of rain and cooler temperatures. i'm going to focus on the weekend, coming up in seven minutes. that's coming up. mike is tracking an oil tanker now in san jose? >> an alert in my mind a tanker on highway 101.

i'm moving away showing the sensors. they are looking great, including northbound 101. the oakland road onramp. that worries of approaching at freeway speed. the tanker is mostly off the shoulder. it is moving well off 101 and 85. typical spots for slowing, but lighter volume. an easy half hour from highway 4 to the bay bridge. this span, you have your popular drive right now, 92 gets more traffic and the dumbarton bridge picking up traffic as well. >> do you know what they are feeling? didn't know if you have that situation. thanks so much. 6:31. happening today, last minute road repairs in the mountains in the last 30 minutes. caltra caltrans crews close bear creek road. >> do we know how long this

could impact the commute? >> reporter: this is going to be impact for at least a week. it's major because we are talking two different projects. one is caltrans and the other is santa clara roads project. they are shutting down the two main thoroughfares into and out of one neighborhood. a little too dark to show you this morning. roll the video so we can show you. black road shut down at skyline boulevard from 8:30 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening. that started last week. highway 35, which is skyline boulevard will be shut down from black road to bear creek road around the same time during those daylight hours starting a half hour ago and lasting until 6:00 this evening. if you look at the map, you'll see what the locals are frustrated about. they are the two main arteries into and out of town. all week, the residents of 171 homes will be blocking or shut out. they say it's because of a lack of communication.

>> get some phone call from school saying your kid is sick and throwing up, you have to get them and i say i can't. that's not a reasonable solution. >> why can't they work together and open this and close that or vice versa. government at work. >> reporter: now, this is more than just an inconvenience for these folks. they have concerns about being blocked in. these are some of the homes that were evacuated last month because of the bear fire in the santa cruz mountains. of course, they remember what it was like to be blocked in during the epic winter storms last winter. we reached out to the county, they did not respond back. caltrans is worried about blocking the neighborhood. they will reassess this morning. of course, that's going to take awhile. if anything changes, we'll let you know, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, kris. it is 6:33 right now.

happening today, there is a key deadline for victims of the north bay wildfire. people in napa county have until 5:00 to decide whether they will use the government or private program to clean up ash and debris. today is the deadline for the option in sonoma county. november 22nd is the deadline for the private option. firefighters on the front lines of the north bay fires face serious dangers. the flames are out. there are concerns about their long-term health. hundreds of firefighters will be tested to see if they suffer toxic exposure. local researchers plan to take blood and urine samples from 200 firefighters. today, a san francisco police officer hurt by a hit and run driver will take a big step forward in his recovery. the officer will be moved to a rehab facility. last month, bicycle officer was critically injured when police say a suspect in a stolen suv ran him over in the tenderloin,

then drove off. he enjoyed teaching jujitsu to fellow officers. supporters held a martial arts seminar to raise money for his family. >> what you are seeing here is all teams coming together to support a fallen fellow trainer in the community. it's really, really special. >> the money raised will allow his wife to stay by her husband's side during his recovery and get an apartment near his rehabilitation facility. take a look and listen at this night from the east bay this weekend. you can't hear that video, but oakland police and chp cracked down on dangerous side shows. both agencies issued citations and towed cars. we are expected to learn more about that operation today. the illegal side shows was advertised on social media.

police turned out in force to keep the streets safe for other drivers. the high profile kate steinle murder case will continue today. jose garcia zarate is accused of killing steinle on pier 14. at issue, whether it was intentional. defense says it was not, arguing the suspect accidentally fired the gun as the bullet ricochet on the ground hitting steinle in the back. they were incorrectly translated about whether he fired the gun or pulled the trigger. new this morning, two bay area sports stars are among gq's magazine. colin kaepernick is gq's citizen of the year. he tweeted he is honored by this. his protest sparked a nationwide debate. kevin durant was this year's nba

mvp. stephen coe bare and gal gedet are there. pg&e crews will start the process of removing the poles on caltrain's tracks. crews will replace and remove some of 200 power poles starting with work in the south san francisco and san bruno. happening today, amtrak's corridor service launches a schedule including the opening of fairfield vacaville. we got brand-new video into the news room showing the new station this morning. it's on vanden road outside travis air force base. quicker getting in and out of that train. over here, toward the bay, moving quickly around in most of

your spots. the peninsula starting to see a build as folks come across the bridge. that tanker, not only is it not leaking, but it is empty. that's good news. they should be able to move that from the oakland onramp to 101. we heard of a vehicle on the dumbarton bridge. it's a tough time. more traffic is heading across. dumbarton bridge still more smoothly than the san mateo bridge. we are going to move up to the bay bridge. an easy drive approaching the bay bridge. the arrow shows you where there's a new crash reported 680 around shriek boulevard. we'll get an update from chp. hopefully you are all coming off the weekend. maybe there's another one in sf store for us. >> maybe. we are always looking forward to the weekend. you know, people need to reach

out to me and say, hey, i'm going to a wedding here or i have a food drive this saturday. maybe you will come out and meet us as safeway. the weather is going to be perfect saturday, low to mid-60s. sunday, that's where we run into issues here. we start to see rain moving in from the coast to the bay. moving from north to south, that will be the third storm system of the week. it will be moving in for our sunday and if you are planning to go to the sierra this weekend, check out the forecast for kirkwood. you may want to make plans to go. they will have a fresh coating of snow. that is live. 34 degrees on friday. some of that snow sticking around, then light snow on saturday. shouldn't be enough to give you travel problems. then on sunday, all of that clears outs. looks like a good weekend for the sierra. if you are going hiking this weekend, muir woods, muddy on friday, but clearing out.

highest chance of rain, coming up in five minutes. confirmed a crash at south 680. one lane blocked with a car. oil across two lanes. a big back up and which roads coming through the area. >> thanks so much kari and mike. 6:44. live in san jose, a stand off is over, ending in one woman's arrest. it lasted nearly nine hours close to the san jose country club on holly drive. neighbors were arguing. at one point, a woman had a gun. she surrendered peacefully and nobody was hurt. intense video this morning. it will make you hug your kids. those kids are getting off the bus. they are about to cross the street without looking. that's such the danger. take a look at this. it is so hard to see. i saw it all morning long. that semi came from the opposite end of the road there and barely

put the brakes on in time. the kid rushed. frightening to watch. the truck driver who filmed this had a harn and warning to the semitruck drive. eventually, they stop in the nick of time. that kid made it across the road. no one was hurt. glad he was okay. tough to watch. 6:45 now. a 20-year-old man is in custody after a stabbing at the mall of america in minnesota. police say two men were stabbed last night during what is called an interrupted theft. this happened at a dressing room in macy's. the first victim was stabbed after he returned to the dressing room. the second victim was stabbed after intervening. police say family members of the victims heard the commotion and were able to stop the attacker. both victims are expected to be okay. happening today, a commission could create an advisory commission for noise. they include a discussion and action on concerns in the

community that the airport and planes are too loud. the agenda lists security concerns. directors of an east bay soccer team will talk about pesticide spraying that forced games to be canceled. spraying at several school fields on friday forced walnut creek soccer club to cancel weekend fayal lees. permits are not something the league can extend to next week. california senate agreed to change how they handle sexual harassment claims against lawmakers. they will hire an independent legal team to look at the allegations. they will recommend dispalestci and make the findings public, if necessary. it comes in the wake of accusations against tony mendoza. so far, he denied the claims. the president may have a familiar challenger in 2020 for

something to put a pep in their step this morning. >> finally. the team has a win under its belt for the first time since december. yesterday's game faced the new york giants who have one win. the coaching staff is in turmoil. the red and gold came out on top, 31-21. this was their first win at levi stadium since week one of last season. did you catch this? adding to the emotion, when san francisco 49er goodman scored on this 83-yard touchdown yesterday. it was thrilling for fans. they were all yelling. take a look at this. he goes down on both knees, it breaks my heart. he makes the sign of the cross. you know why? fans had no idea he was in mourning. after the game, he posted on instagram that his baby had died from complications following a premature birth. he was overcome with emotion.

no doubt, he did that for his baby. lose zing a child, i can't imagine. all right. 6:50 right now. let's talk about, hey, it's monday morning. the forecast. cloudy, but it's not bad. >> a little cloudy and a little wet in spots. we are all going to have, at times, a chance of rain. but, there will be parts of the bay area that will have a better chance of rain. i'm tracking three systems for you this week. every morning, when you tune in, you will get the latest on what's happening with the next storm system moving in. they are lining up out there. as you look at the seven day forecast, at the bottom of the screen, you will see which days the rain will move in. this is the first one, barely weak. we are seeing light rain moving through parts of the east bay and the south bay right now. it's been farther to the north, getting sprinkles in the south bay now as we get a closer look. it's just enough to turn on the windshield wipers and continue

on with the day. it's not a big inconvenience here. looking at the rain from union city to pleasanton, sunol, making the roads more slippery. we will, at times, have clearing as we go into the afternoon. the high temperatures in the south bay up to 68 degrees. o oakland, 64. san francisco, expect a high of 62 degrees. 62 in napa today. getting dressed, you need a jacket and something with a hood. the rain will be off and on and no sandals today. it's the day for closed toed shoes as we are going to also have slightly cooler temperatures. as we check out the school day forecast, it does say mostly dry. we'll see clouds mixes in and temperatures rising to the upper 60s by the time you go pick up the kids from school. i want to show you how this pans out. san francisco, oakland, farther to the north, we have the best chance of rain. then, there will be a slight chance of showers for the peninsula and the south bay into

here are the top stories on "today in the bay." >> concerns a sinkhole could form in the fire zone. kari hall says the rain is approaching that area as well. last month, wildfires damaged underground pipe. officials say the threat is enough that the emergency operation center has been reactivated. this morning, cross creek road is shut down in fountain grove. a sinkhole opened in that area on sunday. crews, so far, managed to fix it. 340 people are dead after a 7.3 earthquake hit the iran/iraq border. nearly 2,000 other people are injured and crews say that death toll could have been much higher if the earthquake hit a more populated area. 6:57. the search is on for a driver in a deadly hit and run that killed a single mother of two. it happened in south san francisco. front ends say the 44-year-old was at the concert.
