now roy moore is slamming not just the democrats and the media, but some members of his own party who are calling on him to step aside. in a new fund raising e-mail, he insists it's not him who should quit, but instead republican senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. >> i thought that he was going to rape me. >> this morning, alabama senate candidate roy moore is fighting back after a fifth woman accused him of making sexual advances on her while she was a teenager. >> this is absolutely false. i never did what she said i did. >> beverly young nelson, then 16. says moore, then 30 was a regular customer at a restaurant where she worked 40 years ago. >> i was twisting and struggling. >> she claims one night moore offered her a ride home, but instead parked the car and assaulted her. >> he began squeezing my neck attempting to force my head on to his crouch. i had tears running down my

each of those issues. that's why i'm voting for roy moore. >> reporter: moore has threatened to sue "the washington post" after it first accomplished allegations that moore fondled a 14-year-old and pursued three other teens while he was in his 30s. his wife kayla still by his side. >> he has never one time lifted a finger to me. he is the most gentle, most kind man that i have ever known in my life. he's godly. >> i don't even know the woman. i don't know anything about her. >> reporter: but nelson, his latest accuser said moore signed her yearbook shortly before the alleged assault, calling her a beautiful girl. she says the other women inspired her to come forward. >> i no longer live in fear of him. >> moore's opponent in the race doug jones is keeping a low profile saying roy moore will be held accountable by the people of alabama for his actions. meanwhile today on capitol hill, congresswoman jackie spear will

testify at a hearing aimed at changing sexual harassment possibles she lag far behind corporate america. matt and savannah. >> gabe gutierrez starting aus you ha us off. we now learned the president's son donald trump jr. was secretly messaging with wikileaks during the campaign. something he's now down playing. nbc correspondent kristen welker has the latest on that. >> reporter: the other big headline this morning, attorney general jeff sessions is considering the idea of appointing a second special counsel to investigate a number of republican concerns, some involving hillary clinton and controversial sale of a uranium company to russia. this announcement comes after the president has repeatedly called on the doj to aggressively probe democrats and as sessions faces another grilling on capitol hill today about the trump campaign's contacts with russia. adding pressure, the fact that the president's eldest son, as you said, matt, is also under a

bright spotlight this morning for his communications with wikileaks. >> reporter: this morning, democrats are lashing out. after new revelations donald trump jr. and wikileaks communicated online. wikileaks says it works in the name of transparency, but the u.s. intelligence community believes it was used by the russian government to disseminate information during the 2016 campaign. >> it shows a willingness to coordinate. shows some actual coordination in the timing of actions by the trump campaign, but also in seeking information about the timing of wikileaks disclosures. so it's very significant. >> drip, drip, drip. that's my comment. >> overnight. donald trump jr. released exchanges with wikileaks after they were first revealed by the atlant atlantic. which reported direct twitter messages were turned over to congressional by trump lawyers. many of those exchanges were one sided with trump responding to only three of the wikileaks messages. trump junior tweeting here's the

entire chain of messages. whopping three responses. in one exchange, dated september 20, 2016. wikileaks sent a direct message to trump junior asking if he knew who was behind an anti-trump super pac. 12 hours later trump junior responded. off the record, i don't know who that is, but i'll ask around: in another instance, wikileaks sent trump junior a link to their database of leaked e-mails writing strongly suggest your dad tweets this link if he mentions us. trump junior didn't respond immediately, but his father tweeted 15 minutes later. very little pickup by the dishonest media of incredible information provided by wikileaks. so dishonest. rigged system. then two days later on october 14, 2016, trump junior tweeted out the link wikileaks had sent him. then on election day, wikileaks

wrote, hi, don, if your father loses, we think it is much more interesting if he does not concede and spends time challenging the media and other types of rigging that occurred. and after it was clear mr. trump had won, wikileaks wrote back, wow. trump junior didn't respond to either of those either message. the trump administration has long insisted there was no collusion with russia. mike pence asked about it in october, 2016. >> nothing could be further from the truth. >> but candidate trump relished the wikileaks dumps of e-mails meant to undermine the clinton campaign. >> still, it is yet another revelation that may add to the mounting scrutiny surrounding communications between trump campaign officials and russians. >> cia director mike pompeo said wikileaks acts like a hostile intelligence service. meanwhile an attorney for donald

trump jr. tells us we can say with confidence we have no concern the about these documents and any questions raised about them have been easily answered in h the appropriate forum. the vice president said he first learned of the news from that report yesterday. >> thank you. there are mnting questions this morning surrounding the death of an army green beret in mali alend p ledgedly at the hand of two navy seals. according to documents obtained by nbc news, one of the seals told a witness he choked out the staff together in the pre dawn hours and he and another seal were out to get back at the victim. the seals 38-year-old and 31-year-old initially told investigators they were wrest ling with melgar when he stopped breathing. an explosive new report claims melgar had discovered that the seals were pocketing money from a slush fund for informants and

conferenc confronted the men. now to today's unprecedented hearing on capitol hill focusing on the president's nuclear authority. it's a discussion that hasn't happened in washington in more than 40 years. nbc's chief foreign affairs correspondent andrea mitchell. >>reporter: for the first time since the height of the cold war, the republican-led senate is raising the question of the president's authority to launch nuclear weapons, which right unlimited. wherever the president goes, this black case is not far behind. inside the codes for america's nuclear arsenal, ready at a moment's notice. now president trump is facing heat even from some republicans wanting to examine his power to launch nuclear weapons. after months of questioning his judgment. >> the president has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability nor some of the competence that he needs to

demonstrate. >> reporter: republican senator bob corker one time trump ally turned fierce critic convening a hearing today on something that has not been debated since the height of the cold war. the process for launching a nuclear strike. first, approved in 1946 when harry truman was president. after hiroshima. prie right now if the president decides to launch a strike, he could consult briefly military advisers who might try to change his mind. ultimately the airmen and missile silos in north dakota would have to follow the president's orders launching within minutes. today's hearing comes as it faces a growing nuclear threat from north korea. with the latest estimates predicting a missile launch by kim jong-un could reach the u.s. within 30-40 minutes. >> north korea best not make anymore threats to the united states. >> that stark reality has not toned down mr. trump's rhetoric.

and more than 7,000 injured in the magnitude 7.3 quake along the iran iraq border. iran declared today a national day of mourning. estimated 70,000 residents are now homeless. the president is promising to rebuild in the shortest time possible. also this morning, newly recovered video from inside penn state fraternity house has led to new criminal charges in the alcohol fuelled death of pledge timothy piazza. on the penn state campus this morning. stephanie, what can you tell us. >> reporter: good morning. these new charges related to the death of 19-year-old timothy piazza range from involuntary manslaughter to aggravated assault to hazing. 12 former fraternity members were charged after the fbi recovered video that the prosecution says was intentionally deleted back in february when police arrived on the scene. it shows according to to the da shocking amounts of alcohol consumed in a very short period of time during this alleged

hazing. >> we are making -- we are making holiday plans without our son tim because of your actions. >> the distraught parents of timothy piazza monday after the district attorney levelled 150 new charges against 17 former beta theta pi fraternity brothers. the crux of the case surveillance video from inside the fraternity's basement. previously deleted and now recovered by the fbi. >> people asked us before why would somebody delete that video if they did delete it and we said that's what we wanted to know. well, now we know. because it contained criminal conduct. >> reporter: authorities allege the surveillance video reveals piazza had consumed at least 18 alcoholic drinks in one hour and 22 minutes. all of these drinks were given to piazza by a fraternity brother. >> that's murderous almost. how could you not know that's bad? >> prosecutors say no one called

911 until almost 12 hours after piazza first fell. >> we have a friend who is unconscious. >> the district attorney says house manager intentionally deleted the video. he is charged with tampering with evidence. as police closed in. >> we know exactly the time it was deleted and the police were indeed in the house. >> a criminal complaint filed against becker and obtained by nbc news in text messages says he considered erasing the video after he was taken to the hospital in february. erasing the camera could be the look as long as no one found out. who responded i think the exact samg thi exact same thing. in september dismissed the most serious charges against 18 members, but ordered 14 of them to stand trial for lesser charges. the charge who was dismissed now faces three new counts, including hazing. >> i don't think he was guilty of anything. the first time they charged this and we were successful in representing him then and i don't think he's guilty now.

♪ the family of a boy who fell off good morning, it's 7:26. i'm laura garcia. the family of a boy who fell over a water slide plan to file a legal claim. you may remember this video captured the day the water park opened in may. the boy struck the pavement and suffered relatively minor injuries, including scrapes. they have released photos of the injuries. the city of dublin and the slide's manufacturer are named in the claim. let's get o look at the forecast with kari for tuesday morning. >> the fog rolling over the top of the golden gate bridge. a really cool shot.

we have seen the patchy fog. it will be clear throughout the day. then rain moving in for tomorrow. here is a look at the time line tomorrow afternoon. it starts to move into the north bay with heavy downpours and gusty wind. it will continue to move southward into the bay area. the south bay tomorrow night, but it continues into thursday as well. scattered showers off and on through thursday and it may continue into friday morning as well. we are in for wet weather after some very nice weather today. let's head over to mike to see how the roads are moving. >> the top of the screen, we are looking at recovering through the fog there in san rafael. the other side of the bay jammed from san pablo to the berkeley curve, takes about 75 minutes. that's an hour and a quarter. the rest of the bay, standard slowing. jammed up 880 to hayward. the south bay, the northbound route. you can tell that's where the

while in asia, president trump asked china's president to make sure the case of the ucla basketball players is resolved quickly and the players are treated fairly. cody riley, jalen hill, and leangelo ball, brother of lakers rookie guard lonzo ball, are accused of stealing louis vuitton sun glass from a high-end store before their overseas game. lonzo ball, optimistic monday. the president's full court press would help his brother and the two other freshmen get home. >> when i talked to my dad and my little brother, it seemed like everything was going fine. i assume everything is cool. >> their outcome father, lavar promotes the potential basketball dynasty and their brand. >> once all three of them get in the nba, then i'm going to kind of be like, you know what, my mission is done.

it's a little on the cool side here, but we're watching a system coming into the pacific northwest right now, and it is going to march across the country. you're going to have to be concerned about it wherever you are. it tbz on thursday into friday into the midsection of the country bringing more showers and some thunderstorms, some snow up through the great lakes, and then as it makes its way continuing across the coast into saturday, we're looking at wet bl from cleveland, boston, all the way down into cincinnati with gusty winds and locally heavy rain. we're going to be watching this that storm system gets here for tomorrow. we are going to enjoy a beautiful day today. all dry. temperatures along the coast in the low 60s. inland mid to upper 60s. after the clouds we are seeing now clear out, we will get sunshine. the winds will pick up tomorrow afternoon ahead of that storm

those reported last week in the washington post involving sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old girl and that he allegedly pursued three other girls who were teenagers while he was in his 30s. now there are growing calls on capitol hill for moore to drop out of the -- breaking news in tampa, florida. police are investigating a deadly shooting in the very same neighborhood where three other unsolved murders took place in a ten-day span just last month. the body of an adult male was found in a street in seminole heights. three other people all walking alone at night were shot and killed there in october. the killer has not been caught. last month police released a video of a person of interest who was recorded running from the scene of the first murder. those deaths hand within a mile of one another. this morning there are new guidelines to tell you about for

what's considered to be high blood pressure. dr. oz, the host of the dr. oz show joins us now. dr. oz, good morning. the numbers have changed. yesterday i may have not had high blood pressure, today i do? >> like a lot of americans. so i was taught as were several generations of medical students that 140/90 meant you had high blood pressure which is what we told our patients. so the biggest medical societies representing heart disease, acc, the american heart association got together with their experts, looked at 900 papers and decided that number is not good enough. the new guideline, listen carefully, 130/80. >> that's high blood pressure? >> you go from 140/90 to 130/80 because there's a big observation, which is the chance of you having a heart attack or stroke, the main reasons we die in america, are double at 130/80 as compared to the optimal blood pressure which is under 120/80. >> that's startling and yet are you encouraging people who wake up now having high blood pressure this morning to run off

robert and i who had connection and resources, couldn't find our son a school. an appropriate education for our son. we didn't want that to happen anymore. we indoctrinated our friends. >> robert and michelle have daniel. and there's no real schools in the city. so, they start, you know, to advocate for your own child is, i think every parent has that feeling to advocate for their own child. the walls they had to break through, with the connection they had and the finance they had. for them to say, we're going to advocate for other children, and to spread that out is what i think is so incredibly special about what they did. everything they do, the school they started wasn't appropriate for him. they worked on other services and other interventions. >> is this a tricky audience for you? you're one of the best political

commentators and comedians out there. but the people that might want to donate to a charity like this are liberal and conservative. do you have to take your material down the middle for something like this? >> i think that the night -- the way the night has always gone is not so much political. the idea is to play with the auspices of a charity. because there's auctions. there's chris rock that will bra break up with your boyfriend or girlfriend for you over the phone. >> that's priceless. >> it's not a standup show, per se. there will be standups on it. my job there is not to irritate people. >> more of a game show host than a standup comedian? >> that's why we got game show host chairs. there's a pictionary set over

there. >> often with autism, it's about little kids and finding the right school. and now, your son is a young man. there has to be focus on being an adult with autism. >> there has to be a large focus on it. in ten years, 500,000 individuals with autism will become adults. so many of them will be living with their families with no services. honestly, when education stops for them, at age 21 or 22, the services stop, but they continue to live. they have full lives. and it's very important that individuals with autism are considered to -- are able to live fulfilling lives. >> and there's daniel's situations. and others. everybody thinks of it like, it's like the good doctor. you have to find a way to get an individual with autism into the right field where they have, you know, savant abilities. but you know, 30% are in a very

different category that might need a more intensive intervention or may need services that are more intensive. it ee's a lot. >> someone like daniel is severe. he has no language. he has a lot of self-abusive behavior. with the right services we've been able to find him, he's achieved quite a bit. and everyone deserves a fulfilling life to be able to work and be part of a community and not isolated. >> michelle is going to hate this. they showed me a video. you do, you think of a triumph as a recitarecital, something l that, that kids are judged by. they showed me a video of daniel, completing a race. just completing a race. and the look on his face when it was over, the smile that he gave, it was a majestic moment. >> i need to, while you're here, ask for your comment on

something quickly. your friend and colleague, louis c.k., has been accused and admitted to lewd acts in front of women. what was it when you heard the accusations? >> stunned, i think. you give your friends the benefit of the doubt. i try to think of it in terms of, i've had friends who have compulsions and have done things gambling, drinking or drugs. and we lost some of them. some of them have died. and you find yourself at a moment of, did i miss something? could i have done more? in this situation, we all could have. you feel anger on what he did to people. comedy on its best day is not a good environment for women. but when we started 30 years ago, it was really difficult. to do it was an act of bravery

in itself. the idea there was an added layer of pressure and manipulation and fear and humiliation, and not -- look. i don't want to make this like, louis was the only one in the business. it's not. it's endemic. and i imagine you walk through 30 rock. and think it's a question, we're used to being in charge. and i think if you talk to women, they're in a very difficult position. and you get mad at yourself, too, for laughing it off or mfo thinking, that didn't happen. >> that was my question. some women in the industry say, this is an open secret. >> right. >> but in this case, you said you were stunned. >> i was stunned. >> you hadn't heard that? >> i heard -- a career ago, i was doing a podcast with david axelrod. and a man in the audience asked

me about it. and i hadn't heard of any of it. so, i was -- he said, what do you think about the allegations against louis c.k. and my first response was, what? joke, joke. as he kept going, i know this is serious. i know louis. he's always been a gentleman, to me. it speaks to the blindness that a man has. hey, he's a good guy. what are you talking about? digging around in it and finding that some people had done, it was hard. but we were all assured, no. but we took somebody's word for it. and maybe that's -- that's an error on our part. with drugs, we've tried interventions and maybe that's something that -- >> have you talked to louis c.k.? >> it's a reckoning in our

our storm moving in tomorrow will bring in some gusty winds and some rain, especially for afternoon and that continues into thursday as well. ♪ and that is your latest weather. it is now time for us to do what we were meant to do here today, and that is lend a hand today. this week we're focusing all week long on the communities that were affected by the hurricanes this year. as you know, the saying goes, everything's bigger in texas. well, we are kicking it all off with a huge surprise for the folks and family of trinity cliep lutheran church because they showed us exactly just how big hearts in texas are. >> reporter: it was the largest hurricane to hit the united states in over a decade killing more than 80 people, displacing tens of thousands more, and

racking up nearly $200 billion in damages. but amid disaster a glimmer of hope. in spring, texas, as hurricane harvey was wreaking havoc, pastor jumped into action and opened his church's doors making trinity klein lutheran a safe haven for those with no home, including its own pastor. >> you could see all of your stuff and you're realizing how much you've lost. there's not much we could do about our own home so the next logical thing for us was, well, let's make sure that we help people. >> reporter: the community of northern houston answered the call. >> by the end of that first day we had approximately 75 volunteers already working and serving. >> reporter: that number growing to over 400. >> we had neighbors right across the street come over and say, how can we help? >> reporter: today the flood waters have receded, the recovery beginning, and the

volunteers still coming. >> money can only go so far, and i felt like i had the time, i had the skills. this is just the right time to come down here and help out. >> reporter: trinity klein has pledged to rebuild 50 homes in the houston area. >> i'm not positive what all i've lost, but i've certainly gained a lot of friends. i've certainly gained a lot of fellowship with my church. >> reporter: fellowship and a spirit of community. neighbors helping neighbors return home again however long it takes. >> we're not at that point where we're able to say we can't help anymore. so every opportunity we get to be able to be empowered to help other people, we've chosen at this moment to say we're going to continue doing that. joining me now is pastor chris singer of the trinity klein lutheran church. thank you so much. >> al, thanks for being here. >> thank you for doing god's
