>> it is a race against time in argentina where crews continue to search for a subhamas rinne that went missing in the south at atlantic four days ago. they detected seven brief satellite calls possibly from the lost vessel raising hopes that its 44 crew members might be alive. nbc's chat man bell is live for us from london this morning. chat man, good morning. what's the latest? >> reporter: good morning, philip. as you say it is a race against time in the search for the submarine and the 44 souls on board. high seas have not helped the search efforts. a spokesman for the argentine navy said they tripled the search efforts on the surface and under water. this includes ten airplanes, 11 ships from the argentine navy and other countries across south america and also the united states and green bay great britain. these ships are following the planned route as they sweep the whole area looking for any signs of the stricken submarine. this as more news that more aircraft and unmanned submersibles from the united states navy are on the way to help join in the search effort

and these satellite calls that brought hope to the search efforts have seemed so far not to be as useful as originally thought. a commander for the argentine navy saying they analyzed these weak signals you abobut they co determine on the map. as families wait on an argentine naval base, messages of news await hope pinned on the base. >> so many holding on to that hope. thank you. >> we are pulling for former teen idol david cassidy. his publicist said he was taken to a hospital on wednesday in florida and is in need of a liver transplant. the 67-year-old former entertainer is conscious and surrounded by family. the partridge family star said he was battling dementia. at that time he said he planned to stop performing and enjoy life. david cassidy's half brother sean cassidy tweeted thank you for all your love and good wishes to david.
