harpt. this is a crash off the lane. in fact, so far off the lane, the car went off the highway. that's why i'm concerned. sounds like the car went off the ramp. there's an incline there and went off to its side. so far, no problems getting to your arrival or departure. i'm worried about the people involved in the crash. the bay bridge, a smooth, easy drive here. no problem with the travel times. the bay bridge, finally, just minutes ago, filled in all lanes to the end of the parking lot. the fast lanes are moving. the metering lights are on, but a lighter volume overall. back to you. >> thank you, mike. breaking news. a u.s. navy aircraft crashed in the pacific. an intense search for crew members missing. the navy announced eight crew members have been rescued. they are in good condition. the aircraft crashed before 10:00 p.m. our time southeast of

okinawa, japan. the crews were on a flight carrying passengers and cargo to the "uss ronald reagan" in the philippine sea. >> we could have a verdict as soon as today. the jury began deliberating. if they do not reach a decision, they are going to break for thanksgiving and pick up on monday. steinle was shot on pier 14 in 2015. the defense says it was accidental and no intent to kill. the suspect is an undocumented immigrant and the shooting sparked a nationwide debate about sanctuary cities. we will break in as soon as we learn there is a verdict. stay with nbc bay area for coverage on air and online. big developments in the case of two inmates that escaped from a palo alto courthouse. >> one is back behind bars. the search for the second inmate is ramping up, after he got into

a shootout with a chp officer in stockton. bob redell is outside the courthouse where all of this started. we covered it here on "today in the bay." good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. one of the escapees who escaped from the superior courthouse here in palo alto is back in jail, back in jail in the central valley. this is after a pursuit with police last night in stockton. chp have arrested 46-year-old. you can hear, at one point, at least one officer fired a gun at the vehicle, carrying him and the other escapee. the chase ended in a walmart parking lot. they ran into the store where he was captured. the other hopped into the drivers seat and took off. law enforcement is still looking for john. here is his mug shot. he's 47 years old.

again. kris sanchez joins us live in san jose to break down the report that was released an hour ago. kris, you have been sifting through this data. i know there's a lot of it. where are we seeing the biggest price increases? >> reporter: well, you know, we are seeing the biggest price increases in san jose, in the south bay. you may need an extra gulp of coffee to wash this news down. zillow releases this comparing october to october every year. if you own your home, though, this is good news for you. start with the good news, right? there was a 12% increase in home prices in san jose. the need yan home price is now more than $1 million. the bad news, though, there are 60% fewer homes on the market, which is rough for buyers because a lot of sellers, even if they can cash in on that equity, they don't want to move because they won't be able to

buy anything else. renters, the median rent is $3400 a month. this is higher than san francisco. scott mcgrew had the chief economist from trulia, an online real estate site, owned by zillow on "press: here" and asked if we are in a housing bubble. believe it or not, the answer was no. >> the two reasons why i think that is because of solid economics. one demand high. job growth in the bay area. incomes are high. that pushes up prices. at the same time, inventory is very low. the number of homes that are on the market is near historic lows. >> reporter: i put a link to that interview on facebook. it is worth a watch if you are on the fence about buying or selling. if you want to see how san jose compares in full to san francisco, you can find that in my twitter feed, shockingly, you

will see a migration of folks leaving the south bay and going to san francisco because it's affordable. wouldn't that be ironic? kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> never thought i would hear that. thank you for that. the time is 6:08. the bay area pixar is facing uncertainty after an abrupt leave of absence. he's been the driving force behind many of pixar's top films. he is taking a half year leave. he wrote a letter to apologize for anyone on the receiving end of an unwanted hug or other gesture they felt crossed the line in any way, shape or form. the hollywood reporter published the report describing how his conduct made co-workers uncomfortable. they say questionable conduct in some cases can be out in the open. >> a lot of these situations,

behavior is shocking them again. uber was not only hacked, but apparently hid the fact from customers. >> scott mcgrew, that's against the law. >> it is. you have to tell people when their records have been exposed and uber did not. when the hack happened in 2016, when travis was ceo. uber confirmed hackers got access to 57 million people's records. they include names, e-mail addresses and phone numbers, but do not include credit card information or details about the trips. uber paid $100,000 to the hackers to keep quiet. it's not illegal to pay a ransom, but the california company should have been told their information was exposed when it happened. the new ceo apologized and said there's no excuse and fired the head of security. we wouldn't be surprised if more

attorney's general join in. meg whitman is stepping down from hewlett-packard. black friday is friday. lots of shopping. as we said before, when you look at the data, with the exception of some door buster deals, prices can fall after black friday. i was talking with a price expert, r.j. jain who said look for deals everywhere, even airline tickets. >> the last time i bought a travel ticket for a flight. i saved $800 by buying on black friday. it's just like, look for nontraditional items not just the products you want to buy. >> r.j. saved a lot of money. i suspect he flies first class. >> where's he going? >> he runs a website called

price.com. he analyzes prices each day to get you the best price. as we found in the past, with the exception of big tvs, prices tend to fall as we get closer to christmas. >> then it's cyber monday on monday, right? >> yeah. >> is it all year now? all right. what are you doing on thanksgiving? on black friday? maybe you are going to hit the white snow, the slopes. there's another option opening up for lake tahoe skiers. kirkwood will open today. they join several others who are open for the season. heavenly, squaw and high up there on mount rose. a lot of folks from the bay area head up to the sierra. i can safely say no chains required at the moment. >> not for now. >> ahh. >> you should take them. sunday, that snow is going to come back down again for the

sierra. it could be heavy. we have a bit of a break now. as we take a look at what we are seeing, some dense fog. all of these areas shaded in gray. that's what we have seen, that notorious central valley fog is starting to roll into the delta, making it into the north bay. let's point out some of the roads in the north bay, 101, spots where visibility comes down to a quarter mile or less. also on i-80. 680 is looking bad. also, 580. all of these roads, we may have some very low visibility in spots. then, as we take a look at this view in san rafael, not too bad here. it's been patchy. heads up about that. after that clears out, our temperatures warming up to the mid to upper 70s today. what month is this? yes, the end of november. we are going to have low 70s also in the east bay. oakland, today, 69 degrees. the peninsula, low 70s there as well.

73 degrees in redwood city. embarcadero, 69 degrees. the north bay, 60s to lower 70s. the storm track is well to the north of us. if you are heading in that area, it is going to be very soggy for the pacific northwest. so far, no travel delays, as far as the flights. no major delays. looks good across the region as well. the weekend, this rain to the north of us does start to shift to the south. it doesn't get here until saturday evening. we have until then with dry weather. then it does become more widespread between saturday night and sunday. it starts to move out of here by monday. we talked about that snow for the sierra as well. looking at oakland, the thanksgiving forecast, highs in the upper 60s. mike, that crash near sfo, could that affect people trying to get to the airport? >> that was my concern. looks like everything is moving smoothly. chp is there. first of all, kari talked about

that fog. definitely an issue on 580 out of dublin. there it is. the road weather index is what the orange means on the map. now, the green is the speed sensors at the limit. you are at the limit traveling north 101 past the sfo exit. the off ramp, the avis car rental is where the car came off the roadway. the good news is, we don't have closures, so traffic is leaving sfo should be fine now. no delays in the skies. more orange. that's the weather in sacramento and the central valley. there will be patches, including vallejo where you have a lower visibility. easy on the rails. no problems today. tomorrow, thanksgiving, we have a sunday schedule or holiday schedule for these agencies. check their website. >> thank you, mike. coming up next, aggressive coyotes. a warning to dog owners this morning after a coyote attack at

travel season well under way. people are getting ready to head out of town or into town for thanksgiving. a live look at all four of the major bay area bridges this morning. a nice start to our day. a record number of americans are expected to travel by plane and get the roads this holiday weekend. pete suratos joins us live with some of the impact that all this travel could have on your plans. good morning, pete. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura. we are here at sfo near the delta airlines check in. folks are getting ready to fly out of town for the holiday season for thanksgiving. not too big of a line here. the lines are filling up. folks are going to check in with tsa to fly out of town. as you mentioned, this is the highest volume of travelers we are seeing around the nation in more than a decade according to aaa. jumping to the numbers, 51 million people are going to be traveling for thanksgiving this

week. that's by air, roads or rail. the highest travel volume since 2005. now, it is the cheapest average air fare since 2013. good news for folks flying out of town. we are seeing the highest gas prices since 2014. when it comes to those gas prices, the average per gallon for the cities here in the area, for oakland, $3.21. san jose, $3.18. i want to point out for travelers who are driving, ranked as one of the worst traffic hot spots when it comes to the most congested city. it could be because folks are headed to lake tahoe. i want to point out, it is the worst time to travel to sfo would have been yesterday afternoon, according to aaa. we'll see if that holds true today. so far, not too busy. live at sfo, pete suratos, "today in the bay." >> busy morning there.

thank you. i-80 is back open in san francisco after emergency repairs early this morning. chp says four cars collided hitting the guardrail west of 4th street. crews repaired it. lanes reopened just before 5:00 a.m. 6:34 now. a friend is apparently identified the young man who died in a house fire that killed his sister and mother. the father is still in critical condition this morning. medical examiners officially identified one of the victims, a 14-year-old. gofundme page has been set up by friends for funeral expenses and medical bills. his 21-year-old brother is another victim. he was a mechanical engineering student at san jose state. a south bay teacher is facing accusations of sexually assaulting a child.

45-year-old chad allegedly touched a 12-year-old girl inappropriately on several occasions. the girl was a student in his math course at a private camp. the student told her mother about the assault. he is a teacher at broadway high school in san jose. in the north bay, the deadline to come up with a plan to remove toxic debris from homes that burned during the fires last month is today. homeowners have to tell county officials how they will clean their problemerty. if not, they may be taken to court to force that clean up. most homeowners signed off to allow them to remove the debris. san jose is working to develop old buildings into lots. officials say, over time, they want to add at least 1500 residential units in the spot. the reason? right now, it's mostly vacant, but close to the station and it is close to that proposed google

transit village. in san jose, officials are trying to shut down churches that are a front or unlicensed pot dispensaries. this is from a coachella valley church. the church makes no secret of its appreciation for pot. we spoke to people who visited there last night. some brought the marijuana. >> i also got the cookie. >> you light incense, say your prayers. you don't consume. >> the second person you heard from visits a different cannabis church in san jose. currently, san jose allows 16 dispensaries, they have all been vetted and pay taxes with proper permits. medical marijuana ads are coming audiotape muni buses. the board voted yesterday. lee has been calling for the ban. lee is concerned of the impact the ads will have on the youth.

we are looking at the traffic. not much traffic. not much impact on the drivers. you have slower spots. we have live shots from the san mateo bridge, a lot of folks talking about that. over toward the bay bridge and richmond and san rafael bridge, the toll plazas have back up, but not much traffic getting there except for the slowing on university, westbound 80. the travel time across the bridges, they are worse in most spots. they are crossing points. let's get a quick look at the bridge. westbound on the right. you can see the slower drive and see the high-rise in the distance. kari has been talking about the clouds. we are all talking about the holiday and the weekends. >> that's right. family coming to town and leaving town as well. >> it's going to be busy. really busy, but at least the weather will be clear. we have fog to deal with this morning. as we head into the weekend, it

is looking all good. take a look at the saturday forecast. there will be a chance of showers in the north bay, especially for saturday afternoon. more clouds moving in. look at those temperatures in the 70s. by sunday, it does get cooler. we'll all have off and on rain. saturday is the day to get out there. 68 degrees inland and the coast 63 degrees. if you are planning to go to santa cruz this weekend, it is going to be in the low 70s. friday was absolutely perfect. cooler on saturday. we will start to see more clouds moving in. the rain here, early on sunday. it's opening day at kirkwood. it is so gorgeous. we have up to 24 inches of snow for the season and it's going to be clear for the next few days, temperatures reaching 40s and 50s. then the snow, as you head back to the bay area. even though you may not need the tire trains going, you may need it coming back sunday. squaw valley looking nice, mid-50s.
