and good morning to you. happy friday. a live picture of the golden gate bridge this morning, whereas you might imagine there are very few people going much of anywhere. good morning. thank you for joining us. >> i had the road to myself. it was beautiful weather. we went for a walk after dinner last night, gorgeous. >> nice pairing, dinner and a walk. you have a chance to walk it off again, if heading to the stores, it will be another great day. mild conditions to get you started. waking up 60 degrees already.

definitely warmer, above seasonal. 59 degrees, tri-valley, 57. in san francisco, a little fog rolling in, not much yet. 59 degrees. north bay 54, east bay 55. temperature trend shows nice climb into the 60s. i will breakdown what to expect today and look ahead at the weekend in a bit. first, let's check in with mike. how are the roads? >> very clear. except one car, just kidding. smooth drive on most freeways. crash in san jose, we will touch on that in a second. one lane closed southbound 17. there's a crash reported in monterey reports. there's slowing there. looks like crews may have just arrived on scene. we're going to catch golden gate bridge which we showed you already. there's a dense fog advisory north of the south tower, you can't see light north of that second tower.

that will be one thing we're tracking as well. now, back to san jose where damien is. is the road closed where you are? >> reporter: mike, it remains closed, east of white road near flint avenue in san jose. this is the reason why. an accident here that forced closure of the road. crews are picking up debris several yards from where the car landed. a mangled car on top of the tow truck. they're starting to clear up, hoping to clear it up in the not too distant future. it was quite a scene. the driver was headed westbound when he lost troll, hit two treason the way. the car rolled several times before it came to rest on a third tree. the driver was trapped in the car for some time. took emergencies roughly a half hour to get him out. he was taken to the trauma center at regional medical center in san jose.

we do not know his condition at this point. at this point it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident. but that's something investigators will be looking at. this is a residential neighborhood. if the accident happened at any other time, the consequences might have been even more severe. i should mention the impact was so hard that the engine detached from the car itself. damian trujillo. the shopping rush is already on. some people starting black friday shopping. >> we were there when best buy opened in dublin. won't call it a mad rush, but light line coming in, people looking for deals. similar scene across the country. jay gray is in wood bridge center mall in new jersey. it is earlier or later there. look at where big bargains are, what it means to retail.

played a factor in the crash. the 26-year-old driver may face charges. u.s. and japanese crews stopped the search since a plane crashed in the philippine sea. 8 were rescued in 40 minutes, in good conditions. no word what might have caused that crash. this is the latest in a string surrounding the 7th fleet. an argentine submarine is missing with a crew of 44. experts saying something that sounded like an explosion was detected around the time and place where that sub was last known to be sailing. no word from u.s. international monitors on what caused that sound. a gunman suspected of shooting a texas trooper yesterday is now under arrest. the shooting happened yesterday afternoon. public safety officials say he opened fire on the trooper

during a traffic stop but we don't know why. thanksgiving is behind us. time to look to christmas. >> there may be a nationwide christmas tree shortage that could have some households not looking jolly. one tree lot owner in texas says for the first time in his 37 years of business there aren't enough christmas trees to go around. tight economy, less demand for real trees a decade ago has hurt the industry today. he says he usually ships in trees from oregon and washington, but with supplies cut, he could only get 500. >> everyone in the market is going to run out of trees this year. >> the low tree supply is expected to hike prices by as much as 10% this season. we breakdown what bay area

wall street will try to end the week on a positive note. markets were mostly lower wednesday. dow snapped a two day winning streak, the nasdaq hit a record high. markets are only open a half day today. dow closed down 64 wednesday. the nasdaq rose 4 points to 6867. early returns are in. data from adobe says holiday shoppers spent more than 1.5 billion online, up nearly 17% from thanksgiving last year. more shoppers turned up at shores as the strong labor market, rising home values, stocks at record highs. national retail federation expects sales to rise 4% this season. uber discussed massive data breach before going public with details this week. they're trying to complete a deal with a japanese company. tuesday disclosed they sold data

a thanksgiving heat wave in southern california. downtown l-a was 91 degrees yesterday -- nding thanksgiving heat wave in southern california. downtown l.a. was 91 degrees, sending thousands to the beach where it was grossly hot. previous reported highs, previous record was 90 degrees. set in 1903. the heat wave is expected to ease up today. >> that's too much. >> gorgeous. >> glass of wine after dinner on the deck. >> i have family and friends in l.a., all the thanksgiving snacks were beach day before turkey. i think when you live in southern california, you have to be used to it. for us, warmer than usual

ourselves. we are 7 to 10 degrees warmer in spots than we are supposed to be this time of year, that's because we have warm air mass over the bay area. not as tough as l.a. no 91 degrees. i enjoyed the 70s yesterday. if you're waking up, 50 degrees for south basin. tri-valley, 57. san francisco, we can expect a couple of patchy fog areas, nothing too dense. north bay camera went out, it is 54 degrees. overall highs will be similar to yesterday because we still have warm air mass. that will break apart as we hit the weekend. then big changes on the way. san jose expecting high of 73, palo alto, 73. san francisco, 65. north bay, napa, 60 degrees. let's look at what to expect in terms of changes. yesterday, we have a couple of showers pass through the north bay. and then we dry out.

today is a dry, mild day. saturday and sunday, looking ahead as you make plans, we have an additional system coming in. that's going to kick in as early as saturday evening for the north bay. heading to sunday, it kind of starts to push down through the entire bay area. we are expecting rain at times, ending by monday night. then looking further out to the first week of december, looks like another shift in storm pattern. looks like we are expecting rain and wind as we head to the first week of december. another thing to expect from the system as we head to the weekend is sierra snow. with sierra snow will also come high wind watch, expected saturday morning. we have pretty good snow levels out there. biggest concern aside from road conditions is strong, gusty winds. talking gusts 30 to 45 plus miles per hour. with the system sunday, look at the winds. we see those pick up overnight into sunday early morning.

then it shifts periodically on and off, 15 to 20, 25 miles per hour. this is the biggest concern here. sierra, saturday by 4:00, 35. and look how strong the gusts get. 45 plus miles per hour. we will break it down, what to expect. mike, are the roads still lonely? >> yes. look at this green. this is great news. better news for santa cruz mountains. highway 17 crash did clear the roadway. we're looking at a smooth easy drive. drive safely no matter where you are. if riding, we have some options. bart has a modified schedule. no morning commute, not much of one. there are fewer trains. we will see a lot of shoppers. muni has normal service. across the bay, ferry has a

to a mountain view woman whose brand-new gift cards were unusable. she reached out to our responds team felp, and we sa nbc bay area responds to a woman whose brand new gift cards were unusable. >> she reached out to the responds team for help and we saved her money. chris chmura is here to explain what we did. >> she bought four $100 visa gift cards. when she tried to activated them, got a message they had expired. so she called visa. they sent her four replacement cards. those cards didn't work either. they were also flagged expired, she said. so she gave up and asked visa for a refund. she waited two months, didn't hear a word, see a penny. that's when she asked us to help. we contacted visa, it contacted its gift card partner company.
