san jose this morning. we have a crew headed to the willow glen neighborhood. we have reports of police activity. there's a command post set up. it's near meridian. they are not saying a lot right now. we will bring a live report from the scene in minutes. continuing coverage of a terrifying scene that unfolded in san francisco. we are hearing from a family who escaped an apartment fire moments before a gas explosion. >> they say it is a miracle their son escaped. we have the story of survival. >> reporter: just moments before the explosion that tore through the apartment building, carlos, who is deaf, was home alone and sleeping. suddenly, he felt a strange vibration that caused him to get up and out. >> he explained, i feel

something moving and i run out of the house. i can't believe it. >> reporter: ironically, his parents were out paying for their car insurance. this is their car. >> everything is broken. everything is broken. >> basically, a giant boom. >> everyone back home said police evacuated 100 people from 19 addresses. >> they pounded on the door and came in. they were like, out, now. get out now. >> reporter: the fire chief says the leaking gas came from under the street outside the apartment. >> i would expect gas was filling up the garage, hit a pilot light and that caused the explosion. there's no other real reason for that. >> reporter: as for the strange vibration, the family says it was a miracle. >> he got out. thank you, god. >> reporter: as further proof, they pointed at the picture

area will bring that to you live. a follow up on the battle of a gun store. city leaders voted to delay the opening by more than ten months. it started a few mopts ago when a southern california gun dealer was about to open a new store. the backlash forced them to delay the project as they review the issue. recreational marijuana back on the agenda for the board of san francisco. they want to get new rules on the books before it's legal. they have been criticized for the delay. a vocal group of older residents are demanding a ban on pot shops. there are proposals to keep them 1,000 feet from schools. they are holding a hearing. the street was purchased by a san jose couple for $90,000.

the city's tax collector auctioned off the road for nonpayment of taxes. they were sending the bills to a bookkeeper who retired in the 1980s. there was no road on slashing oakland unified by $15 million. the meeting ended with no decision. a vote is expected december 15th. they are urging the board to make cuts at the district level rather than classrooms. they are accused of overspending on consultants for three years under the former superintendent, wilson. cyber monday a huge success. a look at how shoppers spent this year. plus, the company taking a note from a biblical story, turning water into wine. how it's being done and where you can get it. really?

good morning, i'm landon dowdy, live at cnbc world headquarters. she could be set to open slightly higher. stocks ended mostly lower, but the dow had a small gain. we are looking at home prices. the dow rising 22 points. nasdaq slipping ten points. shoppers continued to spend on cyber monday. sales were 17%.

it would be the best day ever since cyber monday was created in 2005. traffic rose 12%. smartphones and tablets accounted for a third of all sales. they are expected to top $100 billion for the first time this year. we have a new trick, literally, turning water into wine. people have been trying for years to create carbonated alcohol with machines. now, soda stream is selling a sparkling gold drink mix. it's the first time they have offered an alcoholic mixer. unfortunately, it's only available in germany, for now. back to you. >> makes sense. you had me. >> thanks, landon. if you feel guilty for spending so much money shopping, you can redeem yourself today. it's giving tuesday.

there. we have calls into police and a crew on the scene, obviously, right now gathering information. we'll check in for a live report in minutes. certainly a cold start for the morning here. >> it is. we are only going to get colder. yeah, it's going to be a cold front that sweeps in. that's what's dropping the temperatures down. it's keeping the daytime temperatures cool. it's a trade off. we start out nice and chilly, then comfortable for the majority of the day. the south bay, 45 degrees. you are foung to notice, not a lot of cloud cover. the peninsula at 44. tri-valley, 40 degrees. for san francisco, 48 degrees right now. the north bay, 38 degrees. this might be the time of year you start to see the frosty windshield. i can't complain because we are in california and don't have to scrape snow off. let me show you the 24-hour temperature change. we dropped in livermore.

yesterday, we were already dropping. we have been dropping the early morning in terms of temperatures since the weekend. san francisco, five degrees cooler. the temperatures for today, as i mentioned, we start off chilly, then the afternoon gets cool. it's a nice trade off. east san hoe, 62. san jose, 63 degrees. the east bay, expect to see those mid-60s. in oakland, upper 50s, lower 60s. antioch, 62 degrees. along the peninsula, upper 50s. 57 degrees for half-moon bay. san mateo, 59 degrees. embarcadero, 60 degrees. san francisco will climb to 62 degrees. for the north bay, a combination of 63 in santa rosa and navato 64 degrees. the doppler radar is not showing a ton of activity. further up north, there is a

system. i want to zoom out for you. right up here near the portland and seattle area. this has a chance of bringing light showers to the north bay. it was going to be the next couple hours, but it is staying far up north. north bay, santa rosa might see the chance of a couple showers. as soon as that makes its way through today and the next couple hours, we'll see another arrival of an additional cold front. that's the reason why the morning temperatures are going to stay frosty. we are going start off breezy saturday and looking ahead toward sunday, the clouds clear out. the next seven days, a look at what you can expect. we have stayed nice and dry through thursday. friday, you are going to notice that cloud cover coming in. as we head into saturday and sunday, that's when we see a good chance of rain saturday. a better chance of widespread rain saturday evening. look at the temperatures. we go from 60s this week to 50s

ton weekend, even for inland spots. we have a drop in temperatures. let's check in with mike. a crash in the tri-valley. >> that's right, we do. the speed sensors around the bay look great. we have road crews clearing 880 through downtown and we are going to do over here. that's the only thing we see consistently on the freeway. the crash is off the freeway at grant line road. grant line at altamont road. this is an issue for folks trying to avoid 580. 580 picks up the volume. the merge with 205 out of livermore. that's standard for the altamont corridor. no problems through the dublin interchange. the bay bridge, you are at speeds, just 15 minutes from highway 4 to the bay bridge. no back up at the toll plaza and no problem for transit. we have bart trains running on time. the other agencies don't have

it's near presentation high school. "today in the bay's" bob redell live at the scene this morning. what did you find out so far? >> reporter: well, good morning to you. san jose police have shot off a good portion in this neighborhood that does not include presentation high school, but includes homes on that side of kurtner. a plain clothes officer and assault rifles. they have areas staked out with the lights shining down the street looking for one person, at least one person. i did speak to a neighbor who lives around here who said in recent weeks and months, she has heard shots fired in the neighborhood and there's reports of several burglaries. she didn't hear anything last night. she is wondering if they are things she witnessed or heard in the weeks or
