on this wednesday november 29th. we start with breaking news that affects our )n-b-c ) news family. . welcome to "today in the bay" on this wednesday morning. we start with breaking news. the "today" show has terminated matt lauer's employment. good morning. thank you for joining us, i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. that announcement came a half hour ago on the "today" show, which is on air in the east coast. we want to share that with you now. >> good morning. welcome to "today." hoda is here with me this morning because this is a sad morning here at "today" and nbc news. moments ago, nbc chairman sent the following note. on monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate

sexual behavior in a workplace by matt lauer. it represented a violation of stands ards. as a result, we have decided to terminate his employment. it is the first complaint about his behavior in over 20 years at nbc news, we were presented with reason to believe it may not have been isolated. we want a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected and actions counter to our core values are met with consequences, no matter the offender. we are deeply saddened by the turn of events, but we will face it together and do it in as transparent a matter as we can. we learned, moments ago, just this morning. i'm sure you can imagine. we are devastated and processing all of this. i will tell you, we do not know more than i shared with you. we will be covering the story as

reporters, as journalists, we'll learn more details in hours and days to come. we promise we will share that with you. hoda, i mean, you know, for the moment all we can say is we are heart broken. i'm heart broken for matt, he is my dear, dear friend and partner and loved by many people here. i'm heart broken by the colleague who came forward to tell her story and the woman who have their own stories to tell. we are grappling with a dilemma so many people have faced these past weeks. how do you reconcile your love for someone with the revelation they have behaved badly. i don't know the answer to that. i do know that this reckoning that so many organizations have been going through is important. it's long overdue and it must result in workplaces where all women, all people feel safe and respected. as painful as it is this moment

in our culture and this change had to happen. >> yeah, it did. this is a very tough morning for both of us. i have known matt for 15 years and i have loved him as a friend, as a colleague. again, as you were saying, it's hard to reconcile what we are hearing with the man who we know, who walks in this building every single day. we were both woken up with the news predawn and we are trying to process it and make sense of it. it will take time. >> we are processing it with all of you at home. we promise to be transparent and straight forward and continue this important conversation. there's no real way to do this. this show has been on the air more than 65 years. we are here because of you. we are going bring you the news. we are going to keep doing that and doing it together. so, we will go on. >> yes, we will. >> -- with the news.

clear skies, that's another reason we are waking up cool and staying cool through the afternoon. we will remain in the 40s to the 9:00 a.m. hour and start climbing to the 60s and see another day in the 60s around the bay area. we have a couple changes. i am tracking rain. we have an incident in oakland. >> a traffic break and motorcycle crash. the nimitz freeway here from the shot at the coliseum, traffic is flowing nicely with the headlights southbound. that is the direction on the maps. saw a lot of slowing on 16th at 980. you can see the recovery. the yellow is just below the speed limit. it's recovered from what i saw a few minutes ago. a motorcycle crash was blocking the left two lanes, may be blocking one lane. the rider was standing in the center divide. we'll try to get the rider safely to the shoulder and hopefully the bike as well. we'll get the update from chp.

the rest of the bay is light right now. it will follow up a crash. back to you. >> thank you, mike. new this morning, an overnight duplex fire in the east bay. it erupted on san rafael street in san leandro. a woman needed treatment for smoke inhilation. she is staying with the neighbor. no word on the cause. today is day five of jury deliberations of the kate steinle case. the jury spent 18 hours deliberating. lawyers on both sides were called into court. reporters not allowed in. the jurors may have had many questions. we will bring the verdict as soon as it comes down. we'll break into regular scheduled programming and send out push alerts to the nbc bay area app. it is 4:36.

breaking news that we are covering on this wednesday morning on "today" in the bay. matt lauer has been terminated from nbc news. monday night, nbsz news receiving a detailed complaint about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by matt lauer. we'll continue to follow this breaking news story all morning long. it is 4:45 right now. as we start your morning, step outside with another day of chilly weather. mild in the south bay, but cold for california temperatures. heading outside, in the south bay, it is 48 degrees. the peninsula, 50 degrees. the tri-valley, 42. one thing you will notice that is common, the nice, clear skies. we are seeing clear skies.

look at the north bay at 38 degrees exactly on the colder side out there. the overall highs predicted highs in the 60s, very normal and seasonal and similar to what we have seen for the workweek. east san jose, 65. east bay, concord, 63. oakland climbing to 63 degrees. along the peninsula, we have a couple changes along the way. there is a beach hazard statement in place. i'll get to that in a second. san francisco will be in the 50s and the 60s and the north bay does have a chance to climb to 60. we'll increase between 20-25 degrees mid-morning in the north bay. right now, it is in the 30s. let's talk about the dangerous waveses. there is a beach hazard statement in place. the reason is we have dangerous swells. that could bring strong rip currents and sneaker waves. that is expected to stay today and possibly tomorrow.

if you have plans to head to the beach, remember, never turn your back toward a wave. be call your attention. don't turn your back to the water. high risk of sneaker waves. this is something we keep a close eye on. looking ahead, jumping toward the weekend since we have been tracking the rain. we stay dry consistent through friday and look ahead through saturday. we have this system. right now, it's far north and the models are starting to kind of get more in line and in place. seattle, looks like down from seattle to portland and possibly the north bay. it could bring breezy conditions on saturday then periods of on and off rain, which should clear out by sunday afternoon. we might see showers early on sunday morning, but it's not going to be a washout. now, we will stay within the 60s at least through thursday and friday making notice by saturday and sunday. a chance of rain. another thing you notice is a

drop in those temperatures. the highs will climb into the 50s with a high of 58. san francisco, for saturday, and even inland areas. so, definitely expecting a cool streak through saturday. clear skies for today. mike, are you tracking issues on the bay bridge? >> we had the traffic in oakland. that cleared. the second one is westbound at the bay bridge. a few folks waiting for cash lanes. i was watching the taillights getting off the bridge with the steady stream. it was a traffic break, a brief one across from san francisco toward treasure island. eastbound getting over toward the oakland side on the area where both decks are the same level. there's a recovery after an earlier traffic break. a big rig and minivan. at most, one lane blocked for a few minutes. that should be cleared shortly.

san mateo woman who says her home was damaged by city constrct nbc bay area responds to a san mateo woman who says her home was damaged by construction workers. >> she felt she shouldn't have to foot the bill for repairs. she turned to chris chmura for help. >> she says last winter, san mateo was doing sewer work in fronlt of her house. one of the trucks pitched a rock at her picture rock. the company was ranger pipeline. she told the project manager what happened. he promised to reimburse her the cost of replacing the window, which was around $8,000. janet spent the next several
