reported sexual misconduct in the workplace. >> kris sanchez has been following the developments and joins us live from the news room with more on this. kris, still a shocking to hear everything that happened. >> yeah, for the fact his co-hosts didn't know until this morning is surprising as well. in the last hour, we did learn more about the accusations against matt lauer. an nbsz spokesman says the accuser describes inappropriate sexual behavior throughout 2014 and it seemed to come as a surprise to matt lauer's co-anchor, savannah guthrie, who made a tearful announcement to viewers this morning. >> this is a sad morning here at "today" and nbc news. moments ago, andy lack sent the following note to our organization. dear colleagues, on monday night, we received a detailed complaint about inappropriate sexual conduct from matt lauer.

it was a clear violation of standards. as a result, we have decided to terminate his employment. it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years at nbc news, we were presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident. our highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected. we are deeply sadsenned by this turn of events, but we will face it together as a news organization and do it in as transparent a manner as we can. that is a statement from our chairman, andy lack. we just learned this moments ago, just this morning. i'm sure you can imagine, we are devastated and still processing all of this. i will tell you, we do not know more than i shared with you. we will be covering the story as resporters, as journalists.

someone shot out a surveillance camera at a south bay elementary school. it happened in san jose's willow glen. it's where we find bob redell at booksin elementary where it all happened. parents want to know. bob? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. the san hoe apolice will release more information sometime later today. they tell us they have arrested a boy who lives a few blocks away from booksin elementary in willow glen neighborhood for firing off a shotgun here on campus, just over 24 hours ago. [ gunfire ] >> reporter: those sounds you just heard were two of the five shotgun blasts recorded by a neighbor's surveillance camera around 3:50 yesterday morning. you can see in the video what h was shooting at. he blew out a security camera on

the outside of the school's library and fired upon the building itself. a mother and father who live across the street and whose child attends booksin chased the boy. he got away. officers with the police department, yesterday morning, set up a perimeter. they shined a lot of bright lights on the neighborhood. they searched the area over 90 minutes. officers with assault rifles drawn, looking for the suspect. later in the morning, police found a shotgun in a nearby backyard. they searched for images and videos from resident security cameras. yesterday, police announced they i rested the juvenile. they are not giving his name or age. he's booked on discharging a firearm in a school zone and vandalism. they have not said whether or not this boy is the same person who shot at a portable classroom here at booksin elementary. the school district indicated to us yesterday morning, before the

boy's arrest, they believe whoever shot up the school yesterday was the same person who did it two weeks ago. reporting live in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> a lot of relieved parents someone was captured. thank you, bob. 6:09. developing overnight. frightening moments in downtown reno. a gunman opened fire on a crowd from a few floors above. [ gunfire ] >> those shots fired just before 7:00 last night. a number of people called 911 to report an active shooter. one victim was hurt and is expected to be okay. >> next thing i know, boom, boom, boom. >> oh, my gosh. i didn't know. i was scared. shaken. >> officers responded to the area and heard the shots. we quickly secured the scene. we evacuated motel and hotel and casino patrons to safe locations

in downtown area. >> police responded to the montage condominium. they are reporting the shooter barricaded himself on the eighth floor with a female hostage. police tried to negotiate with the man. he was eventually shot and killed by police. the hostage was not injured. when you hear of a gunman firing down at people in casino town, think of the massacre in las vegas last month. fortunately, no victims were hurt this time. we have learned the las vegas gunman owned a unit at the high-rise condo complex where the reno gunman fired from last night. there's no word on if the shooters are connection ld. tensions escalating with north korea this morning. this after the rogue regime tested a new, more powerful, long-range missile. the pentagon confirms it went higher than previous tests. it landed 600 miles away, but could have reached the u.s. east

coast on a lower path. it comes a week after president trump put north korea on a list of countries that support terrorism. this morning, south korean president warned that the situation on the korean anyone else could being revated and out of control. moon and president trump took a phone conference after the missile launch. the south korean president declared there could be in attack without seoul's approval. after months of meetings, protests and rallies, san francisco adopted rules for when recreational marijuana becomes legal. pete suratos has a look at how this will impact the city. it comes in time with deadlines coming up quickly. >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus. you have a majority of a board of supervisors in san francisco agreeing to the new rules,

adopting them when it comes to the sale of marijuana. the two big rule that is pop out are the school buffer zone they decided to reduce, as well as who is going to get a chance to work in the industry. when it comes to schools, they are going to reduce it from 1,000 feet to 600 feet. that's between the cannabis dispensaries and schools and day cares. this is a shift from the beginning of the month when several wanted to push the industry out of their districts all together. obviously, they were unsuccessful in getting the board to agree. the other is the equity program. that benefits lower income residents, people displaced from their homes and people with marijuana convictions. the goal is to help communities affected by the quote, unquote, war on drugs. 30% of the workers at the cannabis dispensaries have to be a part of the equity program. the discussion started in june when there was talk of cannabis

it affects the mac running the high sierra. it's a brand-new macintosh if you have upgrade t. simply touching the user name with no password, you may be able to get inside the computers file system. you can't read their e-mails, but you can see their files. hundreds of people tried this themselves on their own mac computers. there are a couple solutions. one, leave your mac at home. it will be safe. there is a work around as well. i have posted that work around to twitter. the head of the federal communications commission, who wants to end net neutrality is attacking twitter this morning, blaming them for allowing people to speak out and suppressing the voice. twitter is part of the problem. the company used a viewpoint and uses that to discriminate. a federal judge ordered the

january 7th. performances start tonight at 7:00 p.m. here on nbc bay area. very sparkly, right? >> look at the weather today. >> yeah. you are going to be able to enjoy a lot of tree lightings. there's a couple going on across the bay area. there's one tomorrow. one in oakland and the weather is going to be great for that, if you head out later tonight. 45 degrees right now as you are waking up in the south bay, the peninsula at 46 degrees. the tri-valley, a cold 42. it's really cold in the north bay, not even the 40s. 37 degrees and the north bay has been struggling to get out of the 30s through the mid-morning hours. the past couple days. look at san francisco. beautiful start, so far. those clear skies. that high pressure system is helping keep us dry and the skies clear. let's talk about the forecast today. san jose, 64 degrees.

east san jose, 65. the east bay, a high of 64 degrees. oakland, 61. danville, 65. peninsula, upper 50s and 60s. san francisco, again, in the 60s in the north bay. similar to what we saw yesterday. i just want to show you this gorgeous shot of squaw valley, lake tahoe. it's cold out there. 26 degrees at this hour. the good news, we have all these resorts listed in squaw valley, kirkwood open. they have a good amount of snowpack from the storm that hit sunday. now, a look at the seven day, another slight chance of rain on saturday. i bet the drivers are helping the drivers. >> some of the lighter roadways. we have a lot of lighter traffic since thanksgiving. that is typically the pattern. early in the commute, a crash out of livermore, slowing as you pass by the crash by the g.e. plant. not a major issue. the tri-valley moves well. so does the east bay.

nbc bay area responds. to a san mateo woman who says her home was damaged by city welcome back, everyone. 6:25 right now. nbc bay area responds to a san mateo woman who says her home was damaged by construction work. >> she didn't feel she should fill the bill. she turned to chris chmura for help. >> she says san mateo was doing sewer expansion work. one of the trucks pitched a rock at her picture window, creating a large divot. the company was ranger pipeline. she told the project manager what happened. he promised to reimburse her the cost of replacing the window, which was around $8,000.

volume, a slower east shore freeway because of the volume. back to you. >> thanks, mike. police in tampa, florida, believe they have a serial killer in custody. they arrested a 24-year-old for four murders. all happened in the same neighborhood within a month. the cases were similar. the victims were alone and started with a tip about a gun at a tampa mcdonald's. >> we received information about mr. donaldson having a firearm at the mcdonald's. a co-worker approached a police officer. that is what led us to that. >> he is working with us. strange things. a different employee. >> he is now facing four counts of first degree murder. it is 6:35. today marks day five of jury deliberations in the kate steinle murder case.

we have live pictures in san francisco. so far, the jury spent 18 hours deliberating. lawyers on both sides were called into court. reporters were not allowed in. it may indicate that jurors had more questions. legal experts say there's no correlation between how long jurors take and the verdict they reach. we'll continue to follow the deliberations and bring you the verdict as soon as it comes down. we'll break into regularly scheduled programming and send out push alerts. new this morning, an overnight duplex fire. the flames erupted before midnight on san rafael street in san leandro. a woman was treated for smoke inhilation and staying with a neighbor. the first of two meetings to make stanford larger. they are finalizing an expansion to take place over 20 years. it adds housing in 3 million

square feet of academic space. the meeting is at oak knoll elementary school. people can weigh in on the environmental impact report. a san jose teacher says she's being discriminated against because she is muslim. she doesn't think the school is doing enough to stop it. she worked at fischer middle school for five years. she says this year, students called her names multiple times. she said on september 11th, the door of her classroom was spray painted with slurs. here is the teacher. >> i have been called a terrorist, working with isis, she's going to kill us all. it was very traumatic to be in a place, in a safe place where i work, in a place where i have a deep love for what i do. >> the teacher is or has filed a grievance with allen rock union

clean up at one of the busiest bart stations. they will be out cleaning the station plaza in the mission. they have been cleaning every plaza every wednesday for over a month. they are asking other bart directors. new this morning, we have numbers on how much money an electric car can save you. the union of concerned scientists crunched those numbers for us. oakland drivers whose power is provided by pg&e can save $900 in fuel costs switching to e lek trik. in san jose, $680. san francisco pg&e customers can save $960. clean power sf customers can save $1,000. jerry brown will speak at a climate leader summit in san francisco. he's there to discuss what is next for the climate change.

boy on crutches. another of a man throwing a boy off the roof. there were many. in each case, it says the attacker was muslim. we have no way to verify. the tweeter has 55,000 followers, mr. trump has 40 million. president trump called for a ban on muslims entering the country and a list of mosques and organizations. he has been eager to use the words radical islamic terrorism, something problem avoided. omar viad tweeted, i'm a muslim-american running. i demand you resign for retweeting islamic phobia videos. >> the tax reform effort moves forward out of the senate. they have 13 days. out of the committee to the full

of the sunrise. the sunshine will warm us up a bit. the high pressure is going to keep us dry and conditions seasonable. the predicted high in san jose, 54 degrees. cupertino, 62. the east bay, expect similar conditions as well. walnut creek, 64. oakland, a high of 61. the peninsula area, half-moon bay, 60 degrees. san mateo, 61. there is a beach hazard in place. san francisco will be in the upper 50s, lower 60s for the most part. the north bay will get out of the 30s. by 10:00, 50s, then top out at 62. navato, 65. there is a beach hazard statement. it means there is dangerous surf and expecting tall waves. if you catch cool video, do it from a safe distance and tag us. of course, don't turn your back away from a wave. we are monitoring the end of the workweek. we are going stay dry, at least

through friday. if you look at the time line on saturday, we have another system. it's sitting off north and it looks like it won't be a significant amount of rainfall. it may carry over showers into sunday. another drop you are going to notice are the highs will turn only into the 50s. we'll go from highs in the 60s to highs in the 50s by saturday and sunday. safe to say, we have officially started a cooler trend. right mike? >> that's right. don't turn your back to the waves. if you take a picture, no selfie mode. looking over here, we don't have to worry about the commute. it's just starting to kick in. the south bay, through san jose, a typical pattern. look at the east bay and tri-valley, they are getting rolling. north bay, we have a continuing issue. jamming up traffic for highway 37 as you pass the interchange. highway 29, barrel damage from an earlier crash. one lane blocked.

nbc news received a detailed complaint from a colleague monday night alleging inappropriate behavior in the workplace by matt lauer. as a result, nbc news decided to terminate his employment. the "today" show coming up in less than five minutes. you can hear the full statement from nbc news as well as reaction from "today" show host, co-host, savannah gustry. live pictures from booksin elementary. a boy who lives blocks from the school is responsible for shooting surveillance cameras on the school. san jose police are charging the boy with shooting in a school zone and vandalism. they haven't released his name or age. we are expecting more information today. on a crowd from a few floors up at a condominium complex. it happened before 7:00, all caught on camera. one person hurt but is expected to be okay. the gunman was killed. it happened in a condo complex where the las vegas gunman owned one of the units. san francisco has rules for when marijuana becomes legal. under the new rules, pot shops must be at least 600 feet away from schools and day cares. 30% of workers must also be low income residents or people with previous marijuana convictions. medical marijuana shops will be able to sell recreational pot on january 5th. recreational marijuana will be legal across the state on january 1st. responding to the department in a controversial federal immigration raid over the summer. in august, i.c.e. agents
