and it will be a challenging day for commuters who use the bay it's monday morning, the start of another workweek. it will be a challenging day for those commuters who use the bay bridge. live pictures of the toll plaza. toll booths will be closed following saturday's deadly accident. we have team coverage and how it's impacting your commute. good morning, i'm marcus washington. >> i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we want to kick off our coverage with mike inouye. it's going to be a challenging nightmare. >> it will be a problem. let's get back to the live pictures. you can see the back up already. we often see a back up early because not all the cash lanes open. this will remain the case for these lanes off to this side,

the far side from me. this is the right approach. the crash happened on this side. four of these lanes on the right side are closed for the time being. we don't know how long it will continue. that will be an issue for these folks. these two lanes, they will open up by 5:00. we should see this back up ease a tad bit. this is on the approach to the bay bridge. 880 coming up, making this bend around the area. that will be a huge problem. if ux get to grand avenue, that makes the approach easier. you have the opportunity to get to the left lanes. these folks coming over, the back up continues to build out. look at the feeder freeways that head into there. the maze of freeways, we call that, interstate 80, 24, even highway 13 will be of no help. that is a big issue. heading to where pete suratos is, i'll give you alternates.

pete, what happened there and why did it happen? >> reporter: good morning to you. we'll get into what caused this. the traffic back up, we are used to seeing it on the bridge. the four lanes closed down. you are seeing the traffic back up pick up earlier than usual. we'll show you the scene of when it took place in the early morning hours on saturday. according to chp, the driver of a rented box truck hit several cars, then the toll booth. one of the toll booths we showed you, completely destroying it in the process. the attendance inside the booth was killed. it was 46-year-old si si han who worked for caltrans for over a decade. the driver could face charges for driving under the influence as well as vehicular manslaughter. another video showing how much of a traffic issue this was,

causing back ups saturday and sunday. this is the back up back to albany. caltrans says the four lanes i showed you will remain closed this morning. as you mentioned, as of right now, we don't have an estimated time when the lanes will reopen. we'll continue to monitor conditions on the ground from the bay bridge toll plaza. another update for you at the top of the hour. live at the bay bridge, pete suratos, "today in the bay." >> remind people to get out earlier this morning. thank you, pete. we want to turn to meteorologist, kari hall. breezy and cool this morning. >> yeah, breezy and cool, but not as cold as we have had the past several mornings. all the winds mixed up the atmosphere. makes it a little milder. all these areas shaded in brown, that's where we have wind advisories in effect and the winds could pick up to 45-55 miles per hour as we go through the day. after we deal with all the winds, a lot of sunshine,

temperatures reaching low 60s. san francisco, 59 degrees. it will be milder for the north bay. we'll take a closer look at these numbers and how long the winds will last and talk about king tides coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, kari. friday, we told you about oakland marking the one year anniversary of the ghost ship fire. today, the men facing charges are in court. >> we are following the court proceedings. the preliminary hearings are scheduled for derrick and max. they are facing involuntary manslaughter charges for the 46 people killed in the fire. they have pleaded not guilty. a berkeley man faces charges accused of pushing a bart train off the tracks. the altercation happened because the man was refusing to leave the train. they arrested him on suspicion of public intoxication.

an east bay firefighter is recovering after he was seriously hurt while fighting a house fire yesterday. that fire happened at a home on san pablo dam road. a resident there suffered smoke inhilation because of the fire. it's still under investigation. the search continues this morning for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in santa rosa. the crash happened around midnight saturday night on highway 12 east of warm springs road. this is video from that scene as officers were investigating. they found that victim, along with broken glass and windshield wipers at the scene. other than that, there are few other clues to go on. the identity of the victim has not been released. antioch police are looking for the latest homicide. a man found shot dead in the middle of the road. they found the victim around 2:00 a.m. sunday morning at empire mine road near deer valley road. the details are limited.

all we have been able to find out is officers received a call. when they arrived, he was dead. a program designed to take a bite out of the hundreds of false alarms police have to respond to every year. homeowners will be advised to register home security alarms for $25 a year. you don't have to register, but you pay $100 for a false alarm. they run higher for those who do not register. in oakland, bracing for a city wide strike hoping heads will cool off. nearly every facility in oakland could be starting or could be closed starting tomorrow. two big labor unions strike over a contract dispute. oakland has been in labor talks the last seven months.

world headquarters. here are the headlines. dow futures up triple digits this morning. it was boosted by the news the senate nearly passed a tax bill over the weekend. the markets stayed low friday because michael flynn was directed by president trump to talk to russians. the dough falling. the nasdaq down 26 to 6847. cvs is buyingette nar for $69 billion. it is expected to close in the second half of 2018 and will create the first health care triple threat creating a pharmacy, pharmacy benefit management platform and aetna's insurance business. this comes as they are facing pressure to lower costs and amazon threatened to enter the industry. elon musk wanting to send

good monday morning to you. 4:44. as we take a live look out on san francisco and the bay bridge, there in the background, it is starting out to be a nice, beautiful day. >> did you see it? or maybe notice it was gigantic? the moon last night. the supermoon was here in the bay area. we saw plenty of it. it's when it coincides to the closest orbit to earth. spectacular pictures from around the world are popping up all over social media. you probably saw them. the greatest was 12:45 this morning. if you want to see more, you can find more on our facebook page. >> why wouldn't it happen before our bedtime. >> it's really bright. i could see the moonlight shining in. i was like what is that spotlight. it was actually the moon. okay, that's cool.

of course, supermoon. it's still clear and we can still see it this morning as the moon sets. we are going to have a windy day. also king tides in effect. that's when we have a very high amount from low tide to high tide. we have this extremely high tides and that will happen this morning at 10:19. that could cause coastal flooding, especially in those areas like ocean beach and tomorrow morning, late morning at 11:06. some of these areas may have higher waves and also when you have those coastal areas with low lying roads, right there along the coast. you may have issues there. then we step out the door and you can feel those winds as we go through the day. it's going to be windy. winds coming in from the northeast at 25-30 miles per hour. sustained with higher gusts into tonight and we wake up tomorrow morning and it's still going to be windy out there.

we have the gusty winds staying with us for at least the next 24-36 hours. then the high temperatures today, reaching 59 degrees along the coast and in san francisco. low 60s for the inland areas and nothing but sunshine throughout the day. as we take a live look outside in san jose, getting started, getting dressed this morning, you will need a hat. it is cold out there. have on a nice warm coat. as the day goes along with the temperatures more comfortable, but still cool, you need long sleeves and also a day for those pantings. as we go into the next couple days, it gets milder as you check out that seven day forecast at the bottom of the screen. where is the rain? it's been so fairly mild. we are going to have very dry weather over the next few days. storm tracks well to the north. this is not usual. we have a strong area of high pressure. as we go through the week, it's going to keep it dry. keep the rain away. as we look at the seven day

forecast, nothing but mostly sunny skies. it feels warmer as we go toward the end of the week. san francisco starts out at 59 today, up to 67 degrees by the end of the weekend. inland areas will see 70s by thursday. i'll talk more about that but mike, another update about that back up. >> that's right. coming back to the big back up. welcome back from vacation, kari. the back up at the bay bridge, look how significant it is. the cash lanes are jammed up here. the foreground, they have other toll lanes open. these here on the right will not open for the morning commute. we are looking at the big back up. pete suratos continues to follow the results of the crash that happened on saturday morning, a deadly crash that took out the cash lanes or majority of them. there are only a couple available. that's why traffic is jammed up already. we may not see metering lights

and it may be a huge advantage for the fast track lanes. if you have fast track, make sure the transponder is in your car. the cash lanes are not open. the feeder freeways, during a light time now, we have the east shore freeway, 880, 580, in toward that maze toward san francisco. now, you may want to consider an alternate. if you are in berkeley or north, the richland and san rafael, it may be a slower drive but move more slowly. there, you may look at the san mateo bridge. everything is moving smoothly. you saw the back up at the toll plaza. we have your transit system. no delays. no problem for the san francisco bay ferry. the golden gate ferry is also an option. look at the screen. this is the back up already at the bay bridge. it's 4:49. we are expecting a tough drive this morning. back to you. >> thanks, mike.

4:49 right now. an explosive device found in an oakland mailbox. they are trying to figure out who put it there. they discovered a suspicious device at stanford and san pablo avenue. the device was detonated. we reported an explosive device was found in an alameda home black friday. u.s. postage officials say they are looking into both incidents. >> we are not speculating or making connections at the time. we are working the other investigations. >> evidence has been collected from both incidents to determine exactly what kinds of devices were used. 4:50. new this morning, a show of force on the korean peninsula. the u.s. and korean -- it comes a week after north korea test fired the most powerful missile

it started vibrating and making strange noises a few months later. after digging around, she learned samsung issued a recall for that exact issue with that exact washer. so, she contacted samsung. it sent a technician out to fix that problem. however, the repair didn't help. she says it actually got worse. she even noticed a burning smell. she was nervous about that. she asked samsung for a refund and couldn't. she couldn't get an answer from them. she reached out to us. we contacted samsung. they issued her an $800 refund for her noisy washer. they apologized and said we are listening and learning from every customer's experience to constantly improve our process. she was savvy, when the appliance acted up, check for a recall. we should all remember to do

garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. mike inouye kicks off the coverage with the impact the toll lane is having on that commute. >> we saw this big back up. look at the back up for the cash lanes. they are in fast track lanes. it's an advantage early. it's late to have the back up for the cash lane. show you the map. ways around the bay bridge. the back up forming on the sensors here. all the roadways feeding in. that's the reason why during a light time of commute, we have the back up forming quickly as folks get in to san francisco. you can choose the bridge toward san rafael or 92 twar the peninsula side. they are options for you. pete suratos is out there on the scene. pete, you told me those conditions changed dramatically. what do you have? >> reporter: good morning to you, mike. yes, the conditions changed on the bay bridge. it appears at least three of the four lanes have been reopened. of course, they were affected by the accident on the bay bridge over the weekend.
