some sort of windchill warning or windchill advisory, and the cold air continues to pour in. it's not just the cold temperatures, it's the gusty winds that's making it feel even colder. cleveland, the windchill is 17 below right now. >> narrato indianapolis, neefeels like 5 below. tomorrow, brutally cold windchills especially across new england. 21 below in burlington, vermont. it will feel like 10 below in new york. charleston will start at 4 degrees. looking at record low temperatures tomorrow morning. richmond, virginia, 7 degrees. that breaks the old record of 10. philly, 0, breaks the old record of 4. in new york, we will start off the day at 1 degree, the old record was 4 degrees. so the coldest is still yet to come. the coldest ever for tomorrow morning. >> all right. thank you. now to that massive mega millions drawing, and only one winning ticket sold. someone in florida is holding on to a $450 million dream after matching all of the numbers in

the mega millions drawing friday night. if it's not you, don't worry. you still have another shot to win that huge jackpot with the powerball drawing tonight. nbc's maya rodriguez is in miami. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, craig. you can probably see over my shoulder, the billboard shows that the mega millions jackpot has been reset. that is because one winning ticket worth $450 million was sold in florida, in port richie, outside of the tampa bay area. as you know, it could be one person, or it could be a group of people that bought that ticket. if you have not seen those numbers, take a look. it is 28-30-39-59-70, and the gold mega ball was 10. as you mentioned, this was a massive mega millions prize worth $450 million. the winner or group of winners, if that is the case, will have an option to get a lump sum, a

after a controversial new book about his administration was released. it's a book that the president says is full of lies. and he's attacking the author of the book once again overnight. nbc's white house correspondent kelly o'donnell is in the briefing room this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it is so cold outside, we're inside this morning. and maybe there's some good heat going at camp david where the president is meeting with top lawmakers and several cabinet officials. one thing we know for sure, he did not leave behind his frustration over a form top aide's cooperation with a new book. he tweeted late into the night calling steve bannon a total loser, and claiming that he cried when he got fired and begged for his job. when the president left the white house friday -- >> we're going to camp david, we have a lot to work on, a lot of things to accomplish. >> reporter: -- he gave the cold shoulder to reporters. >> will steve bannon be fired, sir? >> reporter: he had already unleashed the heat on twitter about former chief strategist,
5:10 am
now-derided as "the leaker, sloppy steve bannon." who cooperated with the headline-grabbing book, "fire and fury," released four days early after the president's lawyer tried to block it. president trump insisted he gave author michael wolff "zero access. i never spoke to him for book." but wolff told savannah exclusively on "today" -- >> i absolutely spoke to the president. whether he realized it was an interview or not, i don't know. >> reporter: wolff writes that trump's inner circle questions his fitness to serve. >> let me put a marker in the sand here. 100% of the people around him. >> reporter: not secretary of state rex tillerson who said that assertion does not apply to him. >> i've never questioned his mental fitness. i have no reason to question his mental fitness. >> reporter: press secretary sarah sanders on the attack -- >> it's absolutely outrageous to make these types of accusations,
5:11 am
and it's simply untrue. >> reporter: former trump campaign aide sam nunnberg defended the president as capable but difficult. >> does not have any mental problems. he can be difficult to work for. he's a celebrity. >> reporter: he also admitted he probably called the president a "fool" as described in the book. >> i probably did say that. he's called me worse. >> reporter: while there's so much controversial about what's in this book, about the first year of the trump white house, white house officials are trying to draw attention to things they're working on. overnight they released photos of the meetings at camp david. and senior democrats say that the president proposed a request for $18 billion to fund his immigration border wall in exchange for trying to smooth the way for some young immigrants who were brought here illegally, trying to focus on what they're planning and a little bit less about the book. craig, sheinelle? >> thank you. it's not just the trump administration under the

spotlight this morning. we are learning more about an fbi investigation into the clinton foundation that's apparently been going on for months. this as two republican senators asked the justice department and the fbi to look into the man behind that very controversial and unsubstantiated report about the president and his ties to russia. we get more on that from nbc's jeff bennett in washington. jeff, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, craig. as you said, two major developments are now raising the stakes in the partisan battles over an fbi investigation involving hillary clinton and one of the congressional panels looking into russia's election meddling. this morning, two top republican senators investigating russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election are turning the tables, calling for a criminal investigation of christopher steele, the former british spy behind the now-infamous so-called trump dossier. the damning and disputed dossier contains explosive allegations
5:13 am
about president trump's purported links to russia. in a letter to the department of justice and fbi, senators chuck grassley and lindsey graham say steele may have misled federal investigators about his communications with the media about the dossier. democrats are dismissing it as a distraction from the ongoing russia probe. >> i have seen no evidence, none whatsoever, that would justify this criminal referral. seems more like an effort to distract from the real priority, what should be the priorities of the committee. >> reporter: adding to democrats' outrage, a revelation that the fbi has renewed an investigation into the clinton foundation. at issue, pregnawhether clinton foundation donors received favorable treatment from the department of state when hillary clinton was secretary of state. president trump's openly called for clinton to be investigated. branding his former rival "crooked hillary," and tweeting, "where is our justice
5:14 am
department?" a clinton spokesman calling the investigation a sham, adding, "the goal is to distract from the indictments, guilty pleas, and accusation of treason from trump's own people at the expense of our justice system's integrity." we've learned the fbi revived the investigation months ago. it's not clear whether there's any new evidence involved or if president trump's rhetoric prompted the fbi to reopen its probe of the clinton foundation. craig? >> jeff bennett, thank you. let's bring in phillip rucker, washington bureau chief at the "washington post." and an nbc news political analyst. phil, good morning. >> good morning. >> phil, let's start with the back here. one of the more troubling allegations in michael wolff's book is that the president is mentally unfit for office. when he talked to savannah yesterday, he said that according to steve bannon, he's totally lost it. you've got sources inside and close to the administration. does this jive with what you've heard, as well? >> well, the book's author paints a full portrait of what
5:15 am
we've heard in whispers and bits and pieces the last year in washington. we of course had senator bob corker from tennessee a few months back question the president's competence and fitness for the job. the book is a really devastating portrayal, bringing it together. and raising some alarms about the president's mental capacity. >> let's talk about steeb for a moment. not only -- steve bannon for a moment. not only is he a potential backer, is he done in washington or just wounded? >> i would say he's severely wounded now. i don't think anybody's done, especially in trump world where we see people rise and fall and rise again. but steve bannon losing the mercer family support, that is significant. they were his bankrollers, his financial backers. he was hoping to use their resources to become a powerful figure in shaping the midterm election this year. >> congressional republicans are on the attack, once again going
5:16 am
after the clintons, the clinton foundation. you have senator graham, senator grassley going after the guy who's behind this controversial dossier, recommending to the justice department that they file charges against christopher steele. what's this really about, phillip? >> well, i think they're both significant developments. in part, they're in response to the pressure that president trump has been exerting over the last several months to try to investigate the clintons, investigate the dossier, investigate all these other things that are separate from the russia probe underway with robert mueller into whether the trump campaign had any coordination or collusion with russian officials to impact the election last year. >> before you leave us, i want to ask about the kmempt president tru-- the economy. president trump is all about the economy, tweets about the low unemployment rate. 2017 saw the weakest job creation since 2010. is his economic success story all smoke and mirrors, or is it real? >> there is some real economic success over the last year.
5:17 am
it's also important to note that the economy didn't change completely when trump got elected. we've had a slow and steady recovery over several years, a lot of job growth and other successes in the late years of the obama administration that trump inherited and built upon. >> okay. thank you for your time. >> thank you. another headline this morning -- two planes collided at toronto's national airport overnight forcing passengers to evacuate via the emergency slides in freezing cold conditions. one plane with with 174 people on board was waiting to go to a gate when it was struck by another jet being towed away from the gate. flames erupted on the wing of the packed plane. luckily no one was hurt. one first responder was hurt. an investigation is underway. >> scary. dylan has a look at the rest of the country's forecast. >> it's all about the cold since so many people are dealing with the cold this morning. some areas it's a little bit warm

5:35 am
doesn't cover that well. guess what, we're kind of having the perfect storm of that. we're having increased activity. we are having a vaccine that's covering a couple different strains and the one predominating is the one not covered by the vaccine. as you pointed out, we have over 40,000 cases reported now as opposed to 14,000 cases last year at this time. >> here's the challenge. if you say the vaccine, we hear it's 10% effective, there are so many who say i won't get a flu shot. >> exactly. if you get a flu shot, it's going to cover three or four different strains. the 10% number is referring to one particular strain that's covered in those vaccines. it happens to be one of the more dangerous strains so that's important. the other strains are getting covered about 50% to 60%. if you're getting a shot chances are you're getting covered for the other strains.
5:36 am
we believe the flu shot makes it less severe. >> it's not too late. >> absolutely. >> one of the explanations we're seeing the numbers is perhaps it has peaked a little earlier. flu season lasts well into spring and we would expect cases to continue until february. it takes two weeks for the flu shot to kick in. you still get it now. you'll get your antibodies in two weeks. you will be protected and you'll protect other people in your community who are more vulnerable to getting sick from the flu. >> what should you do if you still get the flu? >> if you think you've come down with the flu, the first thing do is pick up the phone and call your doctor. should you get tested? sometimes it's a false negative. you either get tested for the flu or you get started on anti-viral medicine preferably within the first 48 hours. there are a couple different ones that are available. >> thank you so much. dylan, should we talk about this cold again? another check of the weather.
