"fire and fury" claims those around the president questions the intelligence and mental fitness but his team disputes that. >> they're just ridiculous on their face. >> reporter: the cia direct also says the president is fully engaged and understands complex issues. jennifer johnson, nbc news, washington. in washington state, a manhunt is under way for a suspect who shot and killed a sheriff's deputy. the deputy was responding to an armed robbery at a home involving two suspects. he was struck just after 11:30 p.m. while chasing after one of the suspect. the three-year veteran of the force was transported to a

hospital where he died from his injuries. the gunman, an unidentified black male, took off on foot and is still out there. the other suspect, a white male, was found dead at the scene. in a tweet police warned about road closures as the search continues. they're describing the suspect as arm and dangerous, and they are urging residents to stay inside their homes. the bomb cyclone came and went and there's finally some relief in sight. brutally cold conditions remain in parts of the u.s. the cold snap sent temperatures plummeting to new record lows over the weekend. in boston some drivers still haven't cleared the snow that buried their vehicles. temperatures plunged to negative 2 there on sunday. it was an all-time record low since 1896. the frigid temperatures caused more chaos for travelers. according to the flight tracking website flight aware, as of sunday night more than 500 flights at new york's jfk were canceled or delayed. morgan? >> reporter: a travel nightmare for passengers along the east coast with flight delays and

in today's quick hits this morning there are fears of an explosion after a tanker collided with a chinese freighter and it caught fire off the chinese east coast. the government said 32 crew members on the tanker were missing, most of them iranians. officials say the crew of the chinese ship was rescued. a head-on collision sent a bus plunging into the river.
