the president saying on twitter, those awards will now be presented on wednesday for the, quote, most corrupt and biased of the mainstream media. the tweet coming as the new scathing new book "fire and fury" is once again raising questions in the media about the president's fitness to lead. meanwhile steve bannon is seemingly backtracking on comments he made to the book's author michael wolff. in a new statement, bannon reiterated his unwavering support for the president and his agenda and called the book inaccurate. nbc's kelly o'donnell has more. >> reporter: brutal cold on the president's return from camp david. while a biting wind blew across twitter as the president blasted again. "i have to put up with a fake book written by a totally discredited author." adding, "ronald reagan had the same problem and handled it well. so will i." on "meet the press," that author, michael wolff, made a striking assertion that senior white house officials regularly discussed constitutional

but the impact still lingers. the cold snaps and temperatures plummeting to new record lows over the weekend. the frigid temperatures caused more chaos for travelers. according to the flight tracking website flight aware, as of sunday night more than 500 flights at new york's jfk were canceled or delayed arriving and departing the airport. >> let's see how we're going to do weather wise this start of the week. here's bill karins with what's in store. good morning. >> chicago first time above freezing since december 23rd, two days before christmas at 33 degrees. the warm air is coming in, but unfortunately we have to get this weak storm system out of the way before we get a really significant warm up. we have freezing rain and snow depending on your location through the ohio valley. detroit is all snow, pittsburgh is mostly snow. but there is a period of freezing rain even as far south as areas of tennessee and north georgia. we have a little bit of wintry precip. because it's a weak storm, there aren't winter storm warnings or anything like that, but advisories that go from detroit to atlanta, philadelphia, washington, d.c. 82 million people affected and it is mostly going to be during the daylight hours today.

nbc's bill neely is in south korea with the upcoming meeting. bill, what can we expect? >> reporter: yeah, good morning, frances. it's pretty cold here, too. and there's been a chill in relations between north and south korea, of course, for decades. but signs of a thaw. tomorrow morning at 10:00, on the world's most dangerous border in a place called the peace house, five delegates from each side will sit down for the first talks in two years. now, on the agenda, item number one will be the olympics. being held in south korea next month, north korea would like to send a delegation, two world class skaters. they have to negotiate that. but it's really item two that's the important one, and that's relations between the two koreas. it doesn't mean that north korea's nuclear program will be discussed, but the man who will lead south korea's delegation said today he hopes to broaden the talks to talk about, well, things like families that were

split by the korean war decades ago, and also broader humanitarian issues. but really, this is about politics. it's about decreasing tensions on the korean peninsula. president trump says he supports the talks. he's 100% behind them. people here a little more skeptical. they're worried about kim jong-un's motives. they're not sure whether his real intention isn't to divide south korea from the united states, or perhaps to use these talks as a stepping stone to washington. that may be a good outcome. that's what president trump is hinting at. but these talks really historic, a great opportunity, a small window of opportunity, but also, guys, a great risk because this is a very tense time. nuclear weapons, obviously the key worry both here and across the world, but it will begin with discussions simply about the olympics that start next month here in south korea.
