right now at 4:30, we continue to be under a micro climate weather alert. a live look outside san francisco and fremont. the roads are going to be slick. they will be dong rouse. good morning, i'm scott mcgrew. marcus washington has the day off. >> i'm laura garcia. let's get straight to the forecast with kari. >> it's going to let up a little bit and hit or miss activity expected for today with that rain still possible at any point today. we are seeing a bulk of the heavy rain roll to the east. as we get closer looks at the radar, right now, we are seeing the rain holding on to gilroy

and the south county. as we look at light rain around san jose, we are going to move up the peninsula, where the rain has taken a break there and in san francisco, reaching daily record rainfall numbers there yesterday. still light showers around san rafael and as we move to the north bay, seeing the lighter showers moving through. we'll get a closer look at the radar coming up. mike is tracking how it looks as you head out for the roads. >> that's right. since sunday night, some parts of the bay got a lot of accumulation. puddles and ponding. we can see the blue on this side of the map through discovery bay. on the peninsula, we are not seeing the green highlighting showing wet roadways, but it is damp. in oakland, flooding reported and crashes at 880 and 980. that is the area where there was some flooding reported.

the live camera shows 880. you don't see lanes blocked. a lot of slick patches. there will be floods on the on and off ramps. we'll report closures they have. right now, the freeways have been cleared. we'll send it back to you. a lot more is going on on the roadways. >> the microclimate weather alert, the rain could lead to more trouble, as you mentioned, mike, on the roads. >> late last night, embarcadero started to crumble. that forced caltrans to shut down several lanes of highway 101. >> the rain isn't done yet. bob redell is live in palo alto with a check of the dangerous road conditions out there. what do you think, bob? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and scott. when everyone went to bed, caltrans is selling us, two lanes of 101 in palo alto may not be open in time for the

morning commute. the road crews exceeded expectations. you can see behind me, all sections of 101 here, north of the embarcadero is reopened in time for your ride to work. the pavement on 101 started crumbling around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. what was left were potholes, clearly not safe for regular driving. caltrans blames deterioration from the rain and a grease spill here. around 12:45 this morning, they had the job finished and all lanes reopened. they will fix the road during a dry spell when there's no chance of rain. potholes are something you want to keep your eye on as you head to the office. they occur when we get heavy rains that last for hours upon hours like yesterday and overnight. northbound 101 in palo alto, bob

redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks, very much, bob. you can download the free nbc bay area app. you can bet live radar directly to your phone. 4:33. a san francisco police officer in jail, accused of sexually assaulting a person unconscious or asleep. he was arrested late yesterday while off duty. a four-year veteran of the force, suspended without pay. we don't know details about the assault. the officer was known in the community for spearheading a valentine's day campaign. happening today in the east bay, a fund-raiser for fallen chp officer, andrew camilleri. today's event is happening at famous dave's barbecue in hayward. all the proceeds will go to the officer's wife and three young

children. he was in his chp suv when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver. two suspects from the ghost ship warehouse fire. they were ordered last month to stand trial. today, the attorney for max harris will ask for public funds to pay for his defense. both men are facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the fire. harris was the creative director of the building. a big day for raider nation. the former head coach, john gruden will be re-introduced as the head coach. he was a broadcaster for football. he is getting paid $100 million for a decade of coaching. raiders are the first team to give him a head coach job in 1998. he will be re-introduced at noon

start. you are looking at live pictures of san rafael. >> it is watering all my plants for me. very effective. >> definitely. >> stop bragging about your weeds. >> i had gigantic cracks in my yard. hopefully, it will fill in. filling in the cracks, watering the lawn and the plants, thanks to all the rain. in the mountains, over 5 1/2 inches of rain. as it moves to the east, we get a bit of a break. we are not done with the rain yet. our temperatures start out mild in the mid to upper 50s. 55 in livermore. 58 as you head out the door in santa rosa with the high temperatures reaching the upper 50s. we are going hold steady as we

go through the day. 61 degrees in santa rosa. san francisco, 56 degrees and livermore at 58 degrees. getting dressed this morning. make sure you start out with the rain gear. even though the rain is getting lighter, we will still have a chance of showers. good idea to have a hat as well and a jacket or something with a hood to help cover your head once you get caught in one of those light showers. maybe something that drys out easily and boots to step over the puddles as it will be very soggy out there. here is the way it looks for the rest of the day. more scattered showers, but mostly light. we are going to see a chance of rain, even into the evening. by the evening commute, everything will have moved off to the east. we will get some drier roads and tomorrow and thursday, slight rain chances for the north bay. the weekend looks dry, then we see the next weather system lining up there out in the

pacific. next week is wet as well. we are going have showers in there today, slight chance tomorrow and for san francisco, our temperatures gradually warm up. weekend looking good. the chance of rain on sunday is late sunday night to early monday morning. inland areas will have a nice weekend, highs reaching into the low 60s. we'll talk more about this and i'll have a complete list of the rainfall totals as how much we mesh showered throughout this past storm. now mike is tracking a crash in fremont. >> i thought it cleared from chp, so i was going to delete it. the update came a few hours ago. nothing much since then. we are looking at the green starting to clear as we have damp roads along the peninsula and the south bay. i'm going to take you to fremont, southbound 680 and mission south or mission north, we have reports the fast lane is blocked by this crash. we haven't seen slowing over the

last couple hours and no update from chp. be careful if you are traveling out of the tri-valley to the south bay. the darking conditions may be an issue as far as emergency crews. the bay bridge, we have the damp road all over the maze and flooding in oakland. i'm gathering detail. we are looking at blue in concord and coming off highway 4. there may be puddling and ponding. let's look at the travel times and bay bridge. getting down in 15 minutes. no major issues. you can see the damp roadways. be careful. no back up forming, just yet. cash payers are pausing to pay their toll. we are on schedule here. palo alto, where we had the reopening, as bob redell told us, all lanes of northbound 101 where we had the roadway damage. a temporary fix and more permanent coming later. the traffic flow on the bay

hear more about the flu and the impact from state health officials as they hold a news conference. 27 deaths is alarming considering three died during that same time period last year. more and more people are getting sick and pet owners should be concerned about their dog. san jose emergency hospital hospitalized two dogs for flu. it can cause coughing, and loss of energy. one veterinarian never saw a case of it before. >> i have never seen it. in the past week, we have seen two hospitalized from it because they were severe yenough and dos coughing. >> it's unclear if the two cases are connected. wildfires tore through neighborhoods, first responders risked their lives and today they will be honored. they could never be repaid, but they will make sure they are
