francisco.. you may come upon someet we are looking out our window over san francisco this morning, you can see the clouds lingering in. you might come upon some wet roadways for your commute. we will show you the timing of some of the sprinkles that are sticking around. i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. >> and i am marcus washington. we have made it to the end of the workweek. >> friday. >> happy time. >> happy times. >> we still have a lot to do this morning. right now, vianey, a look at what's going on weatherwise. >> i'm sure you noticed or i don't know if you did anything yesterday, but it started raining into the evening hours, then we saw some rain move in overnight. here is the start of looking at the radar right there, you can see the majority of rain moving off to the east and behind it mostly cloudy skies.

if i zoom in a little more towards the bay area you can see a few struggling showers. so spotty rain is expected to linger at least through about 8:00, 9:00, we might see another round of showers around that time, but as far as your temperatures, well, overall comfortable, 40s and 50s today, we are expecting cooler temperatures. i will go more into detail on that, first let's check in with mike. the timing of that if you drop the kids off at school it might be raining right about that time or maybe as you drive to work if that is what you do after you've dropped the kids off. here fremont we have the leftovers from yesterday, slick roadways in many spots around the bay, water on the lens, sometimes you see a spirke spar. the lower the speeds the on and off ramps will be an issue. later on in the morning commute, right now we have one small crash 580 just pass the warren freeway. now to our continuing coverage of the looming government shutdown.

congress has until 9:00 tonight, our time, in order to stop it from happening. we expect a lot of last minute scrambling. we're following it. last night the house passed a measure to keep the government open for another month, but the senate has yet to vote on that measure. democrats in the senate say the measure doesn't include protection for daca recipients. here is california senator kamala harris. >> we have to have daca protection. there is no question about it. >> they're prepared to shut down the government over the issue of illegal immigration. >> that was senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. president trump also said he will blame democrats if the government shuts down. this would be the first government shutdown while one party controls all of congress and the white house. of course, we are keeping an eye on capitol hill this morning. we have a live report coming up from washington at 5:00 this morning and scott mcgrew will have analysis at 5:45. happening today, in alameda

county a deputy accused of setting up an attack on ain't inmate is set to face a judge. nbc bay area obtained court documents that allege he boasted about it to another deputy. the documents quote baileyy as saying i told those six guys to take care of the inmate and make it look like he fell in the shower. that inmate was beaten and injured. the deputy now bases assault charges. a follow-up on the growing anger and frustration over how san jose's alum rock union high school school district handles its money. last night another fiery district meeting. >> intimidation, bullying and harassment. and it's -- >> parents and community members want the district to suspend all contracts with the company it hired to fix the school. they say that some projects are already partially paid for and yet the work hasn't started two years after it was supposed to. now some parents are falling for

three board members to quit. >> the only way you can help this community is by all three of you resigning. >> i think you just believe in your own supremacy just too much. >> the next school board meeting is coming up in march. new details now on the long road to recovery for an east bay high school wrestler. ryan joseph's family tells us he's getting better every day. as we told you earlier this week he was paralyzed from the neck down after getting hurt during a match. joseph attends college park high school in pleasant hill. he had a tracheotomy procedure earlier this week and is recovering well. he is able to speak on his own, the family told us that one -- told us one that his first words after the accident were i love you. you want to get your house earthquake ready? california is actually offering money to help you out. the program is called earthquake brace and bolt and it offers up to $3,000 grants to help

californians living in high risk areas. the registration for those grants opens next week on the 23rd. it will last a month. happening today, bart fleet of the feature officially starts service. a train of new cars is set to depart the pleasant hill station at 9:00 a.m. the inaugural run will go from macarthur bart station in oakland. an eight-year-old who loves trains will be on board, apparently all he wanted for christmas was to ride on bart. >> we've covered that little guy before. he's cute. expect to see more caltrain workers during your next ride. caltrain has started its annual count of ridership this year. that means workers will be tracking how many riders take the train between tuesday and thursday. ridership has more than doubled in the last decade to 60,000 riders each weekday. cal trains says that it will use the new numbers to plan improvements. the stock market took a dip yesterday after a powerful finish the day before. we will show you how things are

good morning, i'm landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters. wall street is set to open higher this morning although investors are keeping an eye on washington and the threat of the government shutdown. stocks fell yesterday on those concerns, but historically government shutdowns have led to a short-term pull back in the stock market, however, the dow, nasdaq and s&p 500 have run up by nearly 5% since the start of the year, but dow falling yesterday to 27,217. >> united a rolling out a spacious premium seat on international flights. in addition to more leg room and personal space travelers in united premium plus will receive free alcoholic beverages, a saks fifth avenue blanket and pillow and amenity kit. last year united launched its

basic economy class in the u.s. where passengers cannot choose their seats or use overhead bin space. panera bread has petitioned the food and drug administration to define what an egg is. the fast casual chain claims a number of its competitors including burger king, taco bell and duncan sell egg patties that contain more than five ingredients. panera has been getting rid of artificial ingredients and preservatives from its issue. >> if you are going to put something in my egg it better be a denver omelette. recreational pot deliveries begin in mountain view even as the city is grappling with how to manage retail sales there. that means folks who order up recreational pot for delivery in mountain view are actually buying marijuana from outside their community, sending their tax dollars elsewhere. in december the city council passed a 45-day moratorium essentially hitting pause on

recreational pot. they are working on their local ordinance as are so many other bay area cities. voters approved recreational pot more than a year ago. well, some of you when you head out this morning you might see scattered showers throughout the area. >> definitely some wet roads thanks to some overnight showers that moved in. this is a live look at the satellite where you can see we have a few lingering showers but we are not in the clear just yet. we are also tracking a pretty big storm just ahead, i will have all the details coming up. and you can kind of see some of that glow here, vianey, this is the north bay 101 through san rafael, maybe slick roadways here and around the bay. just be careful. i will show you what we found about that crash in oakland. @ @!

when you can see another round of showers. for now the temperatures are fairly comfortable, chilly in the north bay, 41 degrees for santa rosa, 48 degrees oakland, mild in san jose at 50 degrees. now let's take you through that hour by hour outlook. if you notice the timeline right now our radar is showing at about 8:00 a.m. another bound of showers moving in right through santa rosa, san rafael, san francisco and then it kind of makes its way through right around 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30 we will start to see some showers through the south bay. saturday evening we start to see the majority of scattered showers taper off nicely. if you notice the timeline it takes you all the way through saturday, saturday morning we are expecting clear skies, will catch a break from the brain but not by much because we do have a storm moving in saturday night into sunday. now, one last thing i need to mention as far as that high surf warning, through friday afternoon, so this is still very much in place for today's storm, strong rip currents, a pretty

decent swell up there, up to 40 foot breakers are possible yet again for today. now let's talk about that big weather event that i was talking about in terms of rain totals. if you notice by saturday we do start off nice and clear for the most part, the majority of that rain will clear out. then if i take you through sunday's forecast you can see that third storm of the three that we were tracking earlier makes its way in and we're actually expect to go see some pretty heavy pockets of rain and then we see another round of showers through monday, tuesday and into wednesday. so the next workweek that we have coming up ahead is looking like a wet one. we're talking about the chance of seeing some good rain totals. another thing to keep in mind if you are heading out towards the sierra this weekend, that winter storm warning will be in place, we are expecting low snow levels possibly between 2500 to 3,000 feet. we have a couple big events on the way. we have rain, we have snow, but at least the roadways have a little bit of a chance to try out. >> we will all take the chance

to try out. folks around the bay on slightly dampened, slick roadways. one area where load droe flanhye was reported, highway 17, in the chp detail it does say hydro planed. look at the southbound side. more folks traveling towards santa cruz this time of day so they may be distracted by the flashing lights. neither side has any lanes blocked, the activity was just off the roadway near the summit road exit. as he get up toward oakland, talked about westbound 580 at coolidge, but it's off the shoulder as well out of lanes, sounds like a car rubbed the shoulder and now they're doing paperwork as well. no injuries and no delays getting towards the bay bridge. we will give you a quick look at that span. even though the bay bridge toll plaza has no backup look at the number of cars traveling west over towards san francisco and

east getting out of the city. a lot of traffic flowing on the span. chp talked about some windj84e across the benicia bridge, right now no advisories but keep that in 9dfmind. cg8jáinuing coverage now, this morning investigators in southern california say they will keep going through hundreds of pieces of evidence from the so-called house of horrors in riverside county. investigators are looking at journals written by the 13 children who lived in deplorable conditions because of their parents. david and louise turpin faced a judge for the first time on thursday. we are learning more horrifying details about the abuse investigation. the district attorney says the 13 children lived in what amounted to a torture chamber. they were chained, abused and only allowed to shower once or twice a year. authorities say some of the victims were so weak and malnourished they could go into shock by just eating in the hospital. the turpins 29-year-old daughter weighs only 82 pounds.
