off. president doesn't have plans to take the message and go on the road. how does he turn a successful state of the union address into something lasting. >> it's extraordinarily difficult to make a state of the union stick anymore. just the speed of news cycle. the speed of all of this. i'm surprised this president the entire month of january he's not been on the road much at all. and they've not done much to sell their tax plan. so if they haven't done that, i don't expect them on the road for this, but you know, look, this state of the union only becomes relevant if something, you know, if he can have a big success quickly. and immigration is one opportunity to have a big success quickly, but i have to tell you, i think his rhetoric last night set things back. did not advance the ball forward. because while on immigration, while the tone was an attempt at bipartisanship. the way he sold immigration really offended a lot of democrats that were listening in that room. i think he made that situation harder today than it was before

the speech. on the flip side talking about a pathway to citizenship. dreamers. young immigrants. how does that sit with his base. >> that's the issue. we talked about this a little bit last night. i think because the amnesty issue doesn't sit well with the base, perhaps trying to sell the hard line aspects of what he saw first. noticed he showcased immigrant crime. put an emotional period on that story and said, hey, americans are dreamers too. then made his pitch. he did so in such a reluctant way. you have to wonder. i think it was about apiecing his base. >> we'll see how it shakes out. chuck, go back to bed. thank you very much. >> you too, all right. also this morning, new concerns over the deadly flu epidemic. doctors are now warning of a possible double dip. possibility of a second round of cases even after the season

ling kent explains why. message kids is designed for young users to interact with parents and each other. it looks like a lot of fun. which is what some child advocacy groups say is a problem. >> we thought it had the opportunity to be harmful for young children. >> a letter sent to mark zuckerberg for commercial free childhood and other organizations and individuals says that message kids is not responding to a need. it is creating one. facebook says message kids is based directly on feedback from parents and experts and childhood development and online safety. >> we know they're using these technologies already and what we heard from parents is they want a way to control that experience. >> when facebook introduced us to the app just before it launched, they emphasized the safety features they had in place. explaining that it's parent who is are fully in control. setting up the accounts and approving each of their child's contacts. these are measures the child

air quality teams in richmond this mornin good morning, 7:26 right now. i'm kris sanchez. air quality teams in richmond this morning lifted the shelter in place for neighborhoods around a scrap metal plant where there was a fire yesterday. that spent thick plumes of smoke into the air at sim's metal management on south fourth street near interstate 80. firefighters still are on scene watching for any flare yaups, but with that shelter in place lifted, toll takers returned to the jobs on the richmond-san rafael bridge. let's take a look at your weather forecast. mostly clear in the south bay. we are getting a beautiful sunrise this morning and it's going to be bright and sunny all day long and nice warm temperatures reaching into the upper 60s. we will have a repeat of

>> oh, yes. >> i don't think we can do that. >> she can't drink, but we can, i )m ... r local news and air quality teams in richmond good morning. it's 8:26. i'm marcus washington. air quality teaches in richmond this morning have lifted the shelter in place near the scrap metal plant where the fire started yesterday. there are thick plumes of smoke going into the air on south fourth street near interstate 580. the shelter in place was lifted about 4:00 this morning. firefighters are still on the scene watching for any of those flare-ups. toll takers now have to return to staffing the toll booths at the richmond san rafael bridge. if you look at the overall bay area traffic jams, we've got a lot going on. we are still seeing slowing in the south bay along san jose, along 280, there was an earlier

crash there, also 880 northbound as well, now it's just early morning buildup. westbound 92, that lane originally was blocked, they had moved that off to the shoulder, now it looks like the traffic is recovering nicely in that area. and then we're also still seeing some delays along north 101. that middle lane was blocked earlier. i'm happy to report they've cleared that off to the side. we're still seeing some delays along some of the bridges. westbound 80 towards the bay bridge, it's busy out there, marcus. >> thanks. another local news update in half an hour.
