coats, i know you were mentioning when you went outside it's warm but inside your house was chilly. >> that was yesterday. >> i'm used to sleeping with my ac on. you don't need it during the day and even overnight because it's really nice outside. night and mild. we have a combination of 40s and 50s across the board. santa rosa 48, napa 42, oakland 47 and hayward 51 degrees. yes, we are not on the -- no 30s in sight. we haven't seen any 30s all week long. we will be climbing into the 70s but first let's check in with mike, he is tracking something on the east shore freeway. we had the earlier issue with the traffic break and the big rig involved in what sounded like a crash. we are looking at the rest of the bay and speed sensors are green all over the place, should be getting up toward the green level but still a little slowing around the scene where there may be activity over on the shoulder pest 580. chp said no problem after earlier traffic breaks but we are watching a little slowing getting toward the bay bridge.

no major problems. a quick look at the toll plaza shows you the cash lanes starting a little wait. we are following breaking news this morning out of san francisco. this morning fire crews are working to figure out what started a fire that burned two homes overnight. flames roque out about 3:00 in the morning on fulton street right by alamo square and the famous painted ladies. a three-story victorian home went up in flames that was under construction. the flames spread to a house next door forcing a family out of that home. no word on injuries and no word on a cause. pete suratos is at the scene gathering new details for us right now. we will check back in with him in half an hour. now to a developing story this morning, local businesses bracing as i.c.e. agents are zeroing in on northern california. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live in san jose with the immigration sweeps expected to happen soon. kris, good morning. >> reporter: a lot of folks might be going to work feeling
5:02 am
apprehensive, nervous today. some folks, though, might not go to work at all and that's because dozens of businesses in san jose and also in san francisco have gotten notices that they are going to be audited by the immigration customs enforcement branch that looks at hiring documents to make sure that the workforce is completely legal. now, this is a paper thing, but it could result in deportations as well. now, nbc bay area and telemundo 48 witnessed prior sweeps on raids. i can tell you from personal experience that come workers just stopped showing up at work for fear of getting swept up. according to i.c.e. similar raids in 2017 the entire year resulted in more than 300 arrests, fewer than half of them criminal and more than $100 million in fines and restitution for the businesses. we asked i.c.e. to explain how their homeland security investigations work and we were told that on monday, tuesday and wednesday of this week notices of inspection were sent to 77
5:03 am
bay area businesses, mostly san jose and san francisco. i.c.e. says this is an audit of hiring records, also known as an i-9 audit. employers have three days to provide records and then the agents show up to verify in person. now, the i.c.e. deputy director has said that these audits or sweeps are really about protecting jobs for the american workforce for u.s. citizens, but immigration advocates say that it also has the potential to break up families. we are going to track this throughout the morning and as we hear when it's happening we will let you know. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." live now to washington, d.c. where today president trump is expected to give republican lawmakers the go ahead to release a classified memo about the russia investigation. this comes despite warnings from the fbi about its accuracy and moves that are expected to cause political firestorm on capitol hill today. 5:05 am
misleading. democrats claim it's designed to discredit the fbi's russia investigation. they are calling on house intelligence chair devin nunez who wrote most of the memo to sit down. >> our investigation would not be credible or productive as long as chairman nunez is at the helm. >> president trump could dee classify the memo and release it himself. dee classify and give it back to congress or simply not object and let lawmakers decide what goes public when. >> this does not implicate the mueller investigation, this does not implication the dag, this is about us holding the system accountable. >> reporter: a white house official tells nbc the memo will likely be approved for release with none of the redactions requested by the fbi. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. at 5:05 on your friday morning after weeks of debate this morning we're finding out which three san jose elementary schools are scheduled to shut their doors at the end of the year. leaders say declining enrollment
