4:32 am
>> reporter: it is alarming, people are just getting up and coming out and asking us what has been going on. it has been a busy night for san jose police, some still on the scene here around a large crime scene. that's denny's just over my shoufrld that you can see, that's south first street and east alma avenue. also across from the sacred heart community organization. here is what he with know so far, police tell us that they began getting multiple calls about gunshots heard in this area, that was just before 11:00 last night. officers arrived to find both a man and a woman had been shot, both were pronounced dead at the scene. we reached out to investigators because there are so many questions about was there an altercation of some kind, what was the relationship between the two people and is there any suspect information? so far we have not heard of any suspects that they are looking for. meanwhile, if you are headed this way as part of your morning commute, you want to be sure to

good morning, i'm landon dowdy and here are today's top business headlines. wall street could see more red arrows at the opening bell today after the markets sold off sharply again yesterday. the dow closing down nearly 1200 points, that is its worst point drop ever. at one point the dow was down about 1600 points which put it in correction territory, down at least 10% from its recent highs. wall street has wiped out its gains for the year in just the past few days. the s&p 500 index has lost $1.6

trillion in value in february alone. overseas european and asian markets are also in the red today. let's put that market selloff into perspective. on a percentage basis the dow fell 4.6%, that isn't even in the top 20 of all time. the dow's largest percentage drop was october 19, 1987 otherwise known as black monday, it plunged about 23%, the dow was trading at much lower levels back then. so what was yesterday's selloff? well, there was no one piece of news that really triggered that move, but investors have been more concerned lately about rising inflation and in turn rising interest rates. you've seen those worries illustrated in yields on u.s. government bonds, particularly for the ten-year treasury. add to that friday's jobs report which showed wages up about 3% year over year. that is fueling concerns the federal reserve may have to be more aggressive in hiking rates this year to keep inflation in check and the u.s. economy on

track. marke . >> we will certainly watch today. money experts say the stock market isn't the only thing americans need to worry about. credit card debt is skyrocketing and that could spell trouble for you later down the road. we looked to some of the numbers overnight. federal reserve reports credit card debt hit a record high last year totaling more than a trillion dollars. nerd wallet reports an average household has $15,000 in credit card debt and pays $900 in interest yearly. delinquencies are also slowly risi rising. speaking of those records, kari is saying we could see record temperatures today. >> yeah, and we set so many reports yesterday, we will take a look back at those numbers and where we're headed for this afternoon. a clear start as we take a live look outside in san jose, low 50s by 8:00 in the morning and 70s again today. we'll talk about what's ahead in the forecast coming up next.

4:47 am
dry spell and we'll start to notice a shift in the wind as we go into the weekend, and that's going to help bring down our temperatures a few degrees. that's the only thing helping us out here from some more record high temperatures. san francisco 70 today, upper 60s the next couple days. we get ready for opening of the olympics as we go toward the weekend and then slightly cooler temperatures here. i will talk more about that, but, mike, you are saying you have a little more info on that crash in cupertino. >> i do, the good news is no majorg not clear on any injuries at all even though one of the details is that the suv involved was overturned. that means it is at least off of its wheels1q> in the south bay. a second to notice all the green around the bay, that's the good news for the freeways, south bay southbound 280 at wolf, that's where we continue to track that. over here looking over toward alma, south first, monterey, those three roadways come together right near denny's and that's where roz was reporting

del valle dam in pleasanton. if del valle were to fail it could flood an area of 100 square miles. >> so we have looked at what issues might arise if the dam does have an uncontrolled release. >> inspection records show multiple issues that have gone unaddressed, broken sump pumps not repaired for more than four years and plans to install monitoring tools dating back three years, but still unaddressed. the reports also show the dam was settled in places as much as 13 inches, not a concern say inspectors. each time inspectors declared del valle satisfactory just as they did at oroville dam. water managers say they are on it. >> are there other dams in the state that have the same problems or issues? >> none of them have showed any areas of concern where there is any public safety issue, but, yes, there will be maintenance work done on all those. >> to learn more about these
