groundbreaking but others worry it misses the mark. nbc bay area's robert hoanda joins us with the story. >> reporter: the idea behind the public announcements isn't just to raise awareness about domestic violence but to reach the men who need the hear that message, even if it makes some viewers uncomfortable. >> hey, i got an extra ticket to the game this sunday, man. you want to go. >> reporter: the setting in each of the five public service announcements are familiar ones such as a gym where advocates say comments and jokes between men about domestic violence often occurs. >> you need to tune her up. >> reporter: this scene has an unexpected end. >> anyone in here think it is funny? not funny. >> it will take men speaking up with friend, family members, within workplaces to change the norms that keep this type of violence in place. >> reporter: the psas feature real police officers, including steve aponte who lost his

grandmother to domestic violence. >> the whole point is to show other men it is no longer tolerated, it is not appropriate. >> reporter: one psa is being held back for now because the bar setting and graphic jokes got mixed reactions from community members who previewed it. some said it went too far and would make viewers uncomfortable. but the five domestic violence agencies involved in the project have a different view. the husband/wife leaders of the allessandra project, named after their daughter, a victim of domestic violence, are all messages about life and death and should be tough to hear. >> imagine uncomfortable our wife and i are and our family is. that's uncomfortable. you can stand to hear about this. >> reporter: now, the police department and other agencies involved are still reviewing that segment set in a bar. the other public service announcements are being released publicly starting this evening. live in san jose, robert handa, "nbc bay area news." police are hunting for killers in north bay tonight after two deadly home invasions

and a high-speed chase. investigators say it began with a home invasion in santa rosa around 4:20 this morning when five suspects looking for pot tied up a family and shot and wounded one of the victims. two hours later they hit another santa rosa home on melcon lane, this time killing one of the people inside that home. hours later the suspects' van was spotted in vallejo. the driver took off, ultimately crashing into two other cars. police arrested three people at the scene, but they say two others are still on the run. >> they are armed and dangerous. they shot two people in two different incidents within two hours of each other. so for no apparent reason. >> tonight investigators are still trying to figure out why the suspects chose those specific homes. take a look. an ac transit bus on the lawn of someone's home. this is on ashby avenue in berkley. around 6:30 this morning the bus collided with a car.

investigators say the force of that collision sent both the bus and the car into a parked car can and then into that house. >> i was in the house. i heard boom. i heard bang. i heard crash, and then i heard the third hit which hit the house next door. >> the crash killed the driver of the car. police and ac transit says they will be looking into complaints by neighbors there that cars speed quite often on that street. okay. the countdown is on again. we are looking live at the senate floor. you see kentucky senator rand paul right there. the federal government will shutdown in less than five hours if congress cannot reach a budget deal, and it is looking very likely as the white house is telling government agencies to prepare for a shutdown. unlike the last few bills, this time the senate will consider a bill that funds the government for two years instead of just a few weeks. but the bill pleases no one. conservatives are worried it adds too much to an already tremendous national debt. >> this is a terrible bill

substantively and symbolically for the united states of america. >> for democrats, they're upset the budget does not include a fix for daca. the day after her marathon speech supporting dreamers, house minority leader nancy pelosi says she is voting no but not forcing colleagues to join her. house speaker paul ryan promised an immigration vote with a condition. he says it has to be a solution the president will actually sign off on. back here at home, a high-profile visit from a canadian celebrity who is also the prime minister. justin trudeau touched down in san francisco this morning and his first stop sales force. people actually piled up on the street corners hoping for a chance to see the political rock star, and he actually obliged, coming out for a quick wave. you can see him there. mr. trudeau is in town for some high-level meetings. he sat down with silicon valley heavy weights including sales force ceo who just announced a $2 billion investment in canada. >> we know that being open to

investment, highlighting our extraordinary diverse workforce that's willing to work hard, willing to innovate and create the future is what it is all about. >> a lot of excitement and a lot of money there from sales force. the prime minister went over to the st. regis hotel where he met with amazon ceo jeff bezos and other entrepreneurs. >> a mixed message expected for the state of the city address. the highlights are for the police department and the planned opening of the new bart station. the mayor tells us he wants to call attention to the affordability crisis in local housing. >> i was just speaking at a high school in east san jose and i heard far too many stories of kids whose families are being evicted from apartments because they can't pay rent. >> the mayor says he is proposing a plan to build 25,000 housing units in the next five years with half of those units considered affordable housing.

now, the state of the city address will be held at the city college and starts just after 7:00 this evening. ♪. the games have begun. the olympics are underway. this is a live look right now at the olympic park right there in south korea. this is right along the coast where several events will take place including figure skating. dignitaries from around the world are arriving in south korea for tomorrow night's opening ceremony, including vice president mike pence. before that caldron is lit, we already have a symbolic win in a new curling event. nbc's gina kim joins us from the winter olympic also. good friday morning to you, gina. >> reporter: that is correct, raj. good evening to you. good friday morning to us here in south korea where it is just before -- i should say just after 9:00 a.m. local time. today in the u.s. it is technically damin us one as the olympics call it because it is before the opening ceremony which marks the official start

of the olympics. but there is so much activity already, so many practice events, so many qualifying events, and a splashy debut by u.s. curling. >> and the hamiltons in the winning circle. >> reporter: today began with team usa in the sport of curling mixed doubles. matt and becca hamilton, the team from wisconsin, won their very first matched against a pair of married curl canners fr -- curlers from russia. in ski jumping, all four u.s. men advanced in the qualifying rounds. the rest of the day was devoted to practice runs and first impressions by top athletes. >> physically i feel stronger than i have ever felt before. >> reporter: the big announcement of the day revealed that four-time olympian erin hamill will be the flag bearer. >> everyone at home is ready to

main. do we know how it broke? >> reporter: we don't. that's what the crews are trying to find out. i'm told they will be here for several hours into the evening until they can discover what happened and then replace part of that pipe. this was a major transmission line feeding water to homes and businesses and fire hydrants, one of many transmission lines. when this one broke it left a big, big mess. crews have reached the broken main but need to shore up the hole before they can examine it to figure out what caused it to break. from nbc bay area's sky ranger you can see the water pouring out, hundreds of gallons a minute. after a 24-inch water main broke, flooding the st. matthew church, school gym and boiler room, all 45 minutes before school was set to start. >> a lot of damage to our building and our church, and we had to cancel school today. >> reporter: just one block over on aragon boulevard, a hand of of homeowners were also trying

to stem the tide of floodwaters coming into their homes. >> it came into pour basement. it was about two-and-a-half feet high in the backyard. >> reporter: it took firefighters hours to pump the water out of their basement. by mid morning cal water isolated the break to an area near el camino and 9th street. then they started looking for the reason it broke. >> in this case we have more than one transmission line, so when we isolate this line water is still able to be kept in service. >> reporter: meanwhile, students and parents came out to look for themselves, many worried that the brand-new gym was damaged. >> the floor was really nice, and it was -- it was very clean and it smelled good in there. >> we will get it fixed. it is definitely an area of pride for us here at st. mathew. >> reporter: indeed, the restoration crews have been working on that gym and the church. the classrooms were not affected by the floodwaters. in the meantime, they will make

a decision about school tomorrow sometime this evening before the end of the day. if we get that decision we will pass it along to us. for now live in san mateo, i'm roz plater, "nbc bay area news." >> instead of a snow day, could be a flood day for those kids. thanks. another big act is pulling the plug on levi stadium. the reason? the controversial noise curfew. ed sheeran is latest to take the show up the field to at&t park. the eagles are doing the same. word is u2 has booked in san jose. the 10:00 p.m. curfew at levi is to blame. he believes the decision is costing the dcity of santa clar about 400,000 per concert. >> i wouldn't be spried if we don't get a thank you card from the board of supervisors for what we did. >> the council is defending the

curfew. we reached out to santa clara's mayor who supported the curfew. our calls for comment were not returned. >> let's bring in money list jeff ranieri to talk about the start of the olympics. >> yes. our weather here which is super nice and the weather there which is super cold. >> yes, but you know the good news about over at the olympics, they're going to start off with fairly dry weather. so we're not looking at any kind of snow storms. that's good news. just to kind of get things off to a smooth start, as we get a look at the forecast tonight we wanted to start off with a look at pyeongchang and the current conditions. our weather computer is able to feed this data in. right now it is 9:15. we have 26 degrees. the sun is starting to come out. they had some clouds early on, and then we are expecting some increasing sunshine through the day. we'll have more on that seven-day forecast for the olympics here coming up. i want to bring you right into tomorrow morning's forecast across the bay area, and the only issue we may have is along the peninsula. some patchy fog at the immediate coastline and 53. also, cold for the try valle

trivalley. just a few clouds in san francisco and 51. we'll continue to see above average temperatures for tomorrow, but number will go down about two to four degrees. it will be a slight change, but it is part of the larger trend that eventually will get us some colder weather in here over the next several days. so a look at the forecast shows santa rosa at 74 degrees tomorrow. still mild, close to record-setting in concord at 76. san jose 75. some of the biggest changes here from half moon bay to san francisco as 60s are expected to return. on the extended forecast i would love to put rainfall in here but there's just nothing showing a substantial chance of wet weather over the next seven days. remains dry in my forecast in san francisco. the biggest change again will be the temperatures dropping from the average 68 tomorrow down to 62 on monday. so starting to feel a little more like february. just watch out for the wind. it will be gusty at times, five to about 25 miles per hour.

as we mentioned, sunshine through next thursday. for the interior valleys we will see temperatures drop down to 67 on monday and also a little bit of wind at times, and continued drying likely as we head into february the 21st. dry here. also dry at the olympics as we start off everything. you can see on the extended forecast it looks pretty good here for friday, opening ceremony at 5:00 p.m. right here on nbc bay area. 32 for the high. saturday 20, we'll stay with 20s through sunday and more 30s and some milder weather at least for them would continue into next thursday. this are a lot of facts coming out about the olympics. in case you missed it, this is the one that everybody that does weather is closely watching. of course, anyone that knows anyone heading there, the stadium will be outdoors, open air, 35,000 people. yes, so temperatures could be in the teens during part of the opening ceremony. they actually installed some heaters at last minute for each seat. you will see this, it is like a pole with a monitor-looking

trying them on she said they didn't fit. so she went to the return line at sears and was promptly told to return the shoes to the nearest k-mart location. 12 miles and as much as an hour away depending on how badly 880 is backed up, k-mart, yes, is owned by the same parent company as sears. still, she was baffled she couldn't return a sears.com purchase to a sears store. so they turned to us for help. first, we scratched our heads and then we picked up the phone. we reached out to sears. in a statement the company said the sears star should have allowed the return and the situation could have been a training issue. so, yes, you should be able to return sears.com purchases to sears stores. in the end, sears refunded the ettners the $32 they spent and the bonus, they got to keep the shoes that didn't fit. if you have a consumer complaint call us or visit our website there on the screen. also, our partners at telemundo
