lighthouse stairs because of that high wind. firefighters notice north bay are keeping a close eye on the conditions. >> rob mayeda has been tracking the wind all afternoon. >> it looks like we're looking at this evening to midnight tonight. our storm ranger doppler radar, should be seeing a lot of rain this year. seeing nothing of the sort in san jose, 71 degrees outside. mostly clear skies. it's those north bay hills through about midnight tonight that will see wind gusts approaching close to 50 miles per hour. given the dry conditions we've seen this month, this has to be watched. the areas in red you see there in the north bay hills could get gusts above 45 miles per hour. at the same time. relative humidity levels even as the sun goes down, down to 17% in napa. that's what we're watching tonight. by tomorrow morning the winds start to ease off. by this time tomorrow increasing clouds, increasing late day shower chances.

advance. we have a full slate of competition still ahead in prime time with more bay area athletes set to go in gold. bryce bennett will compete in the medal race in the downhill competition, then at 1:00, the u.s. downhill title in 2013. also in prime time, the ladies short skating. free monday karen chen will be making her olympic debut. this is super exciting for everyone here in the bay area. we all saw her shine at the sap center back in january in san jose. there she is lacing up her skates, she is ready to go on tonight and the bay area will be watching. politics put aside in the name of sports. the big story line has been the unified team for north and south korea. fans cheering as the first ever women's unified korean hockey team competed today. they're going crazy out there. the match drew some big names in the crowd including the sister of kim jong-un the first immediate family member of the

north korean leader to set foot in south korea. the unified hockey team lost to switzerland 8-0. many are calling this a big win for both countries. here's the medal count so far. it's very early on. many competitions haven't even happened yet. right now the negligenter lands and norway are tied for the most medals. germany has two. no medals for the u.s. that will likely change and very soon. as we mentioned, so much more to come in these winter games, prime time coverage begins tonight at 5:00. medals on the line. the ladies short program and ice dancing. jessica aguirre is up for that. now for a story new today, a san francisco man took to twitter to revealing a truly wild story of vigilante justice. also criticizing the city of san francisco for what he says are laws that prevented police from helping him track down a stolen van.

it's a story that's gotten a lot of attention from bay area leaders. >> this is where the van was recovered at 17th and mission. we spoke with the owner of that company. he said the van was over due, they believe it was stolen. they spotted it in the city, tried to get help, that didn't work. they took matters into their own hands. >> the van is back at vandango van rentals in san francisco. a woman rented the van for the day and didn't bring it back. instead a man called. he declined to extend the rental. >> he refused to bring it back. looking into her background he found red flags, he began the required process of waiting and sending certified letters believing the van was likely

stolen. >> you go to the police and file your report and it gets listed as embezzled. >> he spotted the van near 101 and san francisco. he followed it. because of state law surrounding rental vehicles there was little he could do. he went to twitter about his ordeal. jane kim was among those tweeting back. >> the police are following state law. it treats car rentals -- >> we should have procedures in place so san francisco police officers are twrrained, ready a able to assist a citizen while a crime is in process. >> he walked up to the van calmly and bluffed, giving those inside three options. he said they remove the loads of luggage and hand over the keys. he says he isn't sure if he would do it again. >> i think it was a bad idea

transferred to maximum cu disgraced former olympic doctor larry nassar has been transferred to maximum security federal prison. nassar is now serving his 60-year sentence in tucson. the prison there has a program to offer treatment for sex owe febders. nassar pleaded guilty to sexually abusing 10 girls who were his patients. he's accused of molesting more than 250 women and girls. hold the phone, just as the competition is heating up in pyeongchang an international tussle over smart phones. south korean olympic organizers apologized to the team after saying the athletes could not keep their limited edition samsung phones which are given to every olympian. the iranian team was denied the phones because of international sanctions against the committee. the team will be given the phone. olympic officials are trying to

say an airline announces a sale. bots sometimes reserve the cheapest seats before anyone else has a chance. you get burned when the airline computer which lives on the laws of supply and demand, increases fares for the leftover seats. >> they make these systems kind of confused. they throw them off. the bots are working for unscrupulous online travel agents. they're exploiting how an airline seat can be held but not bought free for 24 hours. they make dummy bookings and repeat the trick every 24 hours or so. >> there are thousands of requests every day. they hold thousands of seats. >> we asked what happens to all those dummy seats. she said fringe travel sites sell them at a price somewhere in between the low fare they're holding and the higher fare the airline is charging.

it's clever scalping. most people book flights like linda. >> whoever offers me the best price. >> i don't believe it's a big issue. >> fare compare, a website that analyzes airline data and tracks flight prices. he hasn't seen bots gobbling up seats, but he agrees if they are, every day consumers are probably paying more than they should. >> if the enconvenient tory goes away. that's less cheap inventory for everyone that's shopping. >> we asked if they're taking action to combat bots. >> more than 5 dozen airlines have hired her team to take down the bots. >> that's airlines you fly with often. >> they want to give you a heads up. third party ticket sellers are supposed to support passengers, especially when problems occur on a trip. anna warns that a bot based site

mr. human? >> yes, for february, dry, but we have wind to talk about and our own moeb el doppler radar scanning the skies, findsing dry air for you tonight. it's scanning. if we had showers, you'd be able to see it in raziszor sharp det. right now you're seeing skies like this, average highs by the way, upper 50s and low 60s. an early start to spring continues around most of the bay area. 63 in san francisco. you may notice our cameras bournsing around from those wind gusts up to 21 miles an hour. toward the trivalley, breezy at times, close to 70. the wind speeds will likely increase as we go through the evening. you'll notice these speeds from 8:30 tonight until midnight. we'll get gusts above 30 miles per hour. wind speeds back off.

with the clear excise and dry air, you could wake up to 30 around the north bay valley. possibly locally breezy around some of the hills as we get the day started tomorrow. >> high temperatures similar to what we saw today. upper 60s, likely we'll find increasing clouds as we go through the afternoon. 65, 67 in danville. peninsula temperatures similar you'll see san francisco in the mid-60s tomorrow. wind speeds picking up again this time tomorrow evening. the change coming to your forecast, increasing clouds stock market evening, there's a brief chance of seeing showers. you'll see here on the future cast, not much to show for, but between now and 11:00 tomorrow
