moving into the 30s, even colder into next week. so this is a little bit of a break, i guess, it's still chilly as you get ready to head out. 33 degrees now in morgan hill, that's one of the colder spots. in santa rosa 34 degrees and 41 in oakland and palo alto. a look at our highs reaching into the upper 60s. even warmer than yesterday. looks good on this friday. we will talk about what's ahead for the weekend coming up. there's a hazard reported by the chp, somewhere around 101, 280 interchange. i have seen no flashing lights scanning the area, but they are calling for a flatbed tow truck so there must be a disabled vehicle there. the overall view of san jose and rest of silicon valley, it's right there, that's where our camera is, and no problems. very light traffic. as you saw on that live shot. around the bay no delays here, behind my head let's take a peek, not even out of the altamonte pass. a smooth drive of the travel times right here getting toward the bay bridge all very good. we typically see 14 minutes, i think you're 30 seconds slower

this morning. there must be one person moving a little slower towards the bay bridge. continuing coverage of the florida school shooting as parkland residents try to fathom the events that happened there. >> investigators say the suspect has confessed to the shooting. thousands attended a vigil last night in parkland remembering the 17 people killed in wednesday's rampage. yesterday authorities named the victims and soon the images started to emerge of those lost. they include a football coach, a future college swimmer and a national merit scholarship finalist. the devastation felt by an entire city. >> my heart is broken for everybody else. we have many, many friends who we have lost and know and kids all know. >> investigators are revealing more about the 19-year-old suspect. they say he took an uber to the school he once attended with a rifle hidden in a duffle bag. the suspect is also now on suicide watch.

president trump is expected to visit parkland tomorrow. happening today, many tamalpais high school students say they will march after school to raise awareness. students against gun violence organized a vigil in mill valley last night. students and their parents say they plan to turn their sadness into action. write your congressmen, write your senators, do something, okay? we are -- we are like teenagers and we still can make such a difference. >> it's sad. i can't imagine what it's like for the families. >> those students want stricter gun control laws. we will hear more from the victims in florida coming up at 5:00. new this morning, parents are looking for options after it is now said el crystal elementary in san bruno will close. the board is looking to close the school at the end of this academic year in june. we've reached out to officials to see if rolling wood elementary is also chistill on

chopping block. we are awaiting to see what the decision is for that campus. they are closing the schools because of a budget shortfall. parents will rally at a south bay school to stop construction of portable classrooms. they say that the school is already busting at the seams. we are talking about don cal john school. the campus is on lick mill boulevard off of montague expressway. some parents reached out to nbc bay area investigative share i can't and they believe that santa clara unified school district is crowding the campus to keep test scores higher at other schools. >> for some reason they're choosing to make the student population at this middle school, their density to be almost ten times that of the student population density at the highest performing school. >> there is a 200 person wait list at peterson and i say why is there a wait list because they have all kinds of property to put portables on. shouldn't everybody have portables? >> here is a look at the santa

clara unified student density. while most cools are under 40 students per acre don cal john is more than three times that, 134 students per acre. now to the olympic games in pyeongchang, the bay area's vincent zhou has a lot to be happy about after last night's performance. first a little history for you. zhou is the first person ever to perform a quadruple lutz in olympic competition and to land it. zhou says he skated well but not great. he is in 12th place and will be back on the ice again tonight. of course, we are all rooting for him. here is the latest medal count, norway leading the pack with 19 medals, germany 15, canada coming in with 13, netherlands taking home 12 and the u.s. has eight medals.

good morning, i'm seema mody live at cnbc global headquarters. wall street looks set for more gains at the opening bell this morning after yesterday's rally. the markets rose for a fifth straight session with the dow closing above 25,000 for the first time in about two weeks. helped by gains in the tech sector. look for economic data today on housing and the consumer. the dow jumping 306 points, the nasdaq rising 112 to close at 7,256. twitter, youtube, amazon and verizon are in the running to stream the nfl's thursday night game. it is unclear what price they are seeking but the league could strike a multi-year deal. twitter paid $10 million to the streaming lights for the

livermore. 33 in morgan hill. you go up from morgan hill to san jose where it's 42 degrees right now and our high temperatures today heading into the upper 60s. so this is way above normal and we are going to continue to have this weather into the day tomorrow, but then a big change in the forecast for sunday. we will talk about that. as we get started this morning on this friday, it will be an all clear and chilly start so you do need some layers. we are talking about a scarf and a coat and also maybe some sport sleeves, but then wearing the pants and the boots would be a good option. with those temperatures warming up today you will want to make sure that you do have the layers so that you can take them off and put them back on as temperatures go up and down. we still have a lot of dry air in place, but then as we head towards sunday into monday, this area of low pressure will be moving in, bringing some spotty showers and there will be a slight chance that we could see with this blast of cold air some very light snow flurries for some of the elevations in the

north bay above 1,000 feet. so that's something we will be watching. also the cold air dropping in right behind that will give us g some freezes through tuesday as well as wednesday. follow me on instagram, i give weather updates, you can see pictures of my munch kikinmunch. here is a look at our forecast over the next few days and as we go into the day on sunday it's going to really start to drop off with gusty winds and those winds continue to gust throughout the day on monday 52 degrees in san francisco and look at those morning temperatures. when san francisco gets in the 30s we will have freezing temperatures for the inland areas and i think by tuesday morning we could be dropping down to 32 degrees and highs only in the mid 50s. so we will talk more about that. now, mike, you were hearing about a small fire somewhere. i got concerned because reports are it's near a holiday inn express. my buddy sean at the desk gave

us a little more detail. smooth drive around leaves speed sensors all over our freeways at the green level including over there, the upper east shore freeway, san pablo avenue exit, that's where the fire is, but it's a small roadside fire that is not affecting the hotel and, in fact, it doesn't affect the on or off ramp, either. fire crews may be on scene just for a couple minutes. as you get on to mass transit no delays here for these longer rides. the capital corridor, ace or caltrain for the early trains, no delays right now. there will be adjusted or canceled service on monday for the presidents' day holiday. check the websites for the individual transit agencies if you're riding. the richmond-san rafael bridge we are looking for a smooth drive as well. a very light flow of traffic from richmond over to san rafael. no problem for these folks going across 580. back to you. in t0duhm÷ after math of ye another horrific mass shooting in america republican leaders

and president trump calling for more action to be taken on mental health issues, but trump's proposed budget released just this monday isn't reflecting that statement. bloomberg reporting the trump administration wants to cut more than a half a billion dollars from the substance abuse and mental health administration. that budget also cuts $25 million from a grant that supports safer schools. you know the dry weather means we could be facing a deadly and destructive wildfire season. >> what if the homes could better withstand the flames. vicki nguyen joins us with a new approach to saving homes and lives. >> reporter: researchers say wildfires are inevitable in california. so instead of looking at ways just to prevent them we also need to look at how to resist them. that starts with roofs and vents and designing communities that will survive fire. fire scientists say as we retrofit buildings to withstand earthquakes we should retrofit homes to withstand wildfire. we want to qai ramps where they

welcome back. it is 4:54. making worldwide headlines, a trial date has been set for "el chapo," the mexican drug lord. the new york judge has set his trial to begin in september. joaquin guzman is accused of running an international drug trafficking operation and playing a major role in a drug war that has taken thousands of lives. yesterday guzman tried to address the court to ask his family to pay for his legal fees but the judge denied his request to speak. we have been telling you that it has been a brutal and
