gotten started because the women's figure skating has not begun, but that drought ends in prime time tonight with fremont's karen chen finally taking to the ice. we talked to karen overnight, we will have that for you and let you know what she said and how she's feeling on the eve of her big event auto. for now back to you. >> we will look forward to that because she performs tonight at 5:00, you can watch it right here on nbc bay area. it will be fun. >> it's cold enough to ice skate outside. we could keep an ice rank out there going on this morning. it's really cold as you get ready to step out the door. we've been saying that, but once you actually feel it, you'll know. look at that, 24 degrees now in napa, it continues to drop and will do so as we head through at least the next hour. sunrise is the coldest time of the day and we're still well below freezing for much of the inland valleys, half-moon bay at 30 degrees. as the sunrises taking a live look in san jose and we are going to willow glen.

at 10:00 we will still be very cold at 44 degrees, today highs in the mid 50s. well cooler than normal for this time of year. we are talking about the cold and rain in the forecast. mike, you were saying there is a new crash in walnut creek. >> i am. yesterday we had an easy drive, this morning we're seeing a pretty typical pattern where we're seeing the slower drives. extra slow through walnut creek coming out of concord, 680 southbound there is a crash at north main. there may be two separate crashes there, but both sound like they are off to the shoulder, a distraction. four vehicles reported there. a smooth drive once you get to the walnut creek interchange and a smoother drive for 24 until you meet with 580 and then you're jammed up toward the bay bridge where the toll plaza shows more traffic than yesterday. the metering lights were turned on at the typical time and look at that coming off the 880 overcrossing and berkeley curve it's jammed up right here. pack to you. 6:02. back to that microclimate weather alert team coverage.

we're tracking the freezing temperatures across the bay area right now. for some of us that means bringing your pets inside. bundling up before you head out the door. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live for us now with a push to reach out to people who are cold in these life and death situations. you have to check on your neighbors even. >> reporter: right. the folks who need to take cover the most in a cold snap like this one may not have anywhere to go. that's why agencies like the bill wilson center are opening up more beds. homeless advocates were doing their outreach over the last couple days reaching out to folks in the streets, dropping off blankets at a homeless encampment off highway 101 in san jose. there are now emergency warming shelters at the tully road library and at the south side community center on rottel road just to name a few. if you know someone in need they can call 211 for health and

human services. they can also text homeless to 888-777 for resources or find santa clara county shelter information at the address there on your screen. >> people get caught off guard because it was so warm a few weeks ago, we were bringing water out here. >> reporter: in berkeley there was a dusting of snow even some hail and now there's an emergency winter shelter open at ninth street and university avenue. this was the first freeze in a while so some folks also keeping an eye on their pets and plants, bringing them in for the night. when i reported from homeless encampments around the bay area i have noticed that quite a few people have cell phones as their only contact to the outside world so i am posting all of this resource information on my facebook page and in my twitter feed in case you know somebody who needs to have that information ready to go. in santa clara kris sanchez, "today in the bay." and of course make sure you download our nbc bay area mobile

app, you can also track the cold temperatures in your neighborhood. you will have access to our current forecast and the radar that's happening in your neighborhood as well. warning for your neighborhood of what's going on. >> it is 6:05 right now. a spring of four small earthquakes rattle the bay area. each quake had a magnitude 2.6 and 3.0. all struck this morning outside of danville in the area around monte vista high school. one quake happened at 1:30, the other three minutes -- within a one minute span at about 4:25. this is close to where two small quakes struck a half mile apart yesterday morning. our newsroom checked with usgs. in the past week there have been ate weeks over a 2.5 in that danville area, six since yesterday. nbc bay area pete suratos taking a closer look at the fault line where this swarm is happening and why it's so different. he will bring you a live report at 6:30.

teachers and students who survived the rampage at parkland high school in florida are speaking out exclusively to nbc. dara who is was the first classroom targeted by that class gunman, three of her students were killed. >> make like no one is there so they will leave us alone and when i turned i saw my student, i saw him and he was -- he was bleeding. into so another teacher is talking about breaking the cardinal rule during a shooting, she opened her locked door for students trapped in the hallway. watch kerry sanders' entire story during the first segment of the "áj>8(" show at 7:00 this morning right after "today in the bay." now to developing story where we are still waiting to hear why hall of fame baseball player orlando cepeda was rushed to the hospital last night.qxñ÷ we're also waiting for word on his condition. the 80-year-old lives in fairfield. he is a giants legend. he still works for the team and

was the inspiration behind the famous cha-cha bowl of at&t park. raj mathai interviewed him two weeks ago. the baby bull was a 1958 rookie of the year which was the giants first season in san francisco. we hope he is okay this morning. continuing coverage now the 2018 winter games, it has already been a busy morning. joanne reid finished in the biathlon mixed relay at 5:00 a.m. she didn't shoot very well putting the americans at a deficit the team couldn't overcome. around 4:00 a.m. elena meyers taylor set a track record in her first bobsled run. today's olympic action not over. >> fremont skater takes the ice tonight, our garvin thomas is live with what karen chen is saying ahead of her big moment. big time for her and for us as well. >> reporter: it certainly is, marcus. i've had the pleasure of interviewing karen chen half a dozen times over the past year. i think i'm in a pretty good

place to know what she's feeling right now and i'm guessing nervous is near the top of that list. karen has told me in the past she has had problems with nerves leading up to big events but recently said she's made a big step in conquering that. what she's learned how to do is accept those nerves as a normal part of the process and not try and fight them. of course, the olympic schedule isn't helping karen at all, we are almost two weeks in and she is yet to compete. she has had to sit on the sidelines and watch others do their i think this. she wasn't part of the figure skating team event. karen has been training a couple hours from pyeongchang. she says it has cut down on distractions. >> it's been a few weeks, but in a way didn't feel like it was that long and i'm really -- and i feel like it was a great opportunity for me to kind of get used to the environment here and for jet lag to be gone and so i think it's great and i'm really ready to go. >> now, karen would love to be

feeling what the shibutanis are feeling right now, maya and alex added another bronze medal to the one they won in the team skate earlier this week. d uájuj to overtake hubble and donohue and the national champs who were third after the short program. prime time tonight not just karen chen, but maya nagasu and bradie tennell. who knows what their chances are, we just know a lot of people are excited to see them skating. >> no doubt. and to see the shib sibs as well. i tweeted out a picture of them when they were little kids starting out this morning. yeah, it's cool to see. thanks a lot, garvin. >> if you want to hear more about those shib sibs that's coming up at 7:00 that duo joining the "today" show for a live interview right after "today in the bay" with their

bronze medal. cold on the ice, cold waking up in the bay area this morning. taking a look at the current conditions across the bay area right now. freeze warning will remain in effect for three more hours until 9:00 this morning. meteorologist kari hall is tracking it all. i covered my plants, my citrus last night. >> you were good for doing that. look at how cold, we compare what it's like at the olympics at pyeongchang to squaw valley right now. it was coldest 3 degrees earlier this morning, right now it's 6 degrees and they are late on tuesday night there. look at san francisco, it's only 36 degrees right now with some mostly clear skies as we get a look at our freeze warning, we talked about this, it continues until 9:00 in the morning and those wind sheltered valleys will dip down into the mid 20s, we are already seeing that right now. all of these areas included in the purple where we do have that freeze warning that will be in effect. as we check out our high temperatures for today reaching into the mid 50s, we are still going to see some more 50s in

the forecast over the next few days and i'm also tracking some rain, more on that coming up in just a few minutes. mike has a look at that morning commute as you head out. >> it's pretty calm but it is much heavier than yesterday when we saw green sensors all around the bay. definitely through hayward for the nimitz and 680 through the tri-valley coming out of the central valley. a smoother drive with the north bay sees more traffic and a couple crashes. one over here we've been talking about, walnut creek south 680 around north main on the shoulder and highway 4 over here around railroad there is a motorcycle that's up there center divide. no injuries reported, in fact, it might not even be a crash but it is a distraction. there's the bay bridge with the backup coming off of 580 and off the berkeley curve and the san mateo bridge over the last few minutes shows a big burst of volume westbound toward foster city out of hayward. coming up next on "today in the bay," a woman not all olympians can relate to.

at 6:15 we have an all clear start, very cold temperatures this morning. in fact, the coldest air we have had in over a year across the bay area. as we take a live look outside in fremont, traffic really rolling and everyone is having to crank up the heater. we are still going to be in the upper 40s at 10:00 this morning, highs today in the mid 50s no change as we look at our temperatures, but there will be a change in our rain chances. that's coming up in five minutes. and definitely cold in the north bay as well, but we're huddling together for highway 37, that jam out of val low and manufactu mare island. gp for the dublin interchange. the stock market gets back to work this morning after a facebook and amazon are both in the news this morning, amazon

says if you use their prime rewards card8uñja whole foods y get 5% cash back. albert son's just bought rite aid in an attempt to save off that attempt. we've seen a sudden rise in bots in social media stirring up emotions after the florida school shootings that's the latestl%=kproblem. friday's indictment of 13 russians names facebook as the primary route for russian propaganda. to be clear, russia -- or facebook, rather, was not accused inform i crime, russia definitely was. facebook executive rob goldman jumped on twitter to defend his company. and criticize parts of the special counsel's indictment. facebook has now clarified goldman's statement saying nothing we found contradicts the special counsel's indictment.

any suggestion otherwise is wrong. now, speaking of russians, a man accused of being a russian agent and hacking yahoo will be in san francisco court in afternoon to find out how long he's going to be in prison. kareem baratov pleaded guilty to hacking yahoo back in 2014. that was one of the biggest hacks in history. now, baratov is from canada, he was born in kazakhstan, but says he was working for the russian fsb. he admitted it and that's the modern equivalent of the kgb. he will be in san francisco court in afternoon at 3:00. we presume he will then get his sentence. really one of the very first russian hackers we've seen to go all the way through the court system. >> to actually make it through. >> exactly. >> thank you very much. people often joke that the olympic games should include an average person for perspective on just how amazing these real athletes are. well, an oakland woman is trending this morning for doing just that. elizabeth swainy lives and works

in the bay area. at the halfpipe on monday she didn't do any tricks but she skied back and forth. 33 krerld cal berkeley grad is american but she represents hungary which she's allowed to do because her grandparents are from there. they didn't have enough other skiers so she made the team. she did meet the initial eligibility requirement which is to place in the top 30 of the world cup event. she chose one with less than 30 competitors. at monday's competition she finished dead last but i still think that's an amazing story of drive. how cool. she gets to be an olympian. >> let's look at her record and let's look at my record. >> ours. >> she has been in the olympics more times. >> a lot more. we've just kind of thought about the black diamond. the good news is that there is some snow, we can practice. >> we haven't had a lot this season, we are only running 15% of normal which is not good but

it is good that we do see some snow in the forecast as we get into the next week or so and some bay area rain. here is a look at storm ranger, this will be tracking those storms as they move in, it's giving us a clean sweep right now, it's our mobile doppler radar, we can move it around as those storms do start to roll into the bay area. you can see that at the bottom of the screen, we do have some rain chances as we go through the next seven days. looking live right now at our temperatures and our cameras, it is so cold this morning, right now in the tri-valley we are only at 28 degrees. it is freezing out there. 27 now in the north bay. i've even seen some readings in the lower 20s in some of the valleys. you do need so wear lots of layers as you head out and you will be peeling them off as the day goes along but we will still be chilly, reaching 57 degrees in cupertino today, east bay looking at 55 in walnut creek, oakland 54, half-moon bay 50 and daly city 51. the marina at 52 degrees, 54

today in santa rosa. now, i will be tracking some rain tomorrow, so make sure you check back in, we will start to see some clouds moving in tonight, we could start to see some of those showers moving into the santa cruz mountains between late tonight and early tomorrow morning and then we could still see a little bit of spotty light rain in parts of the bay area through wednesday night into thursday as that will bring you some rain, not the kind of rain that will be a soaker but we will have a chance of getting a soaker early next week. on monday we will have a more significant storm system moving in. meantime off and on showers, chilly temperatures and very frigid this morning. mike, you're saying some of your commute is back. some. not all of it. i will explain why in a second. we are looking over here, look, this quadrant right here the north bay, the east bay all showing the typical patterns but the south bay and the peninsula are showing a light, still all green right now, and that may tend to be a little lighter this morning because i know friends in san carlos have the week off

refund. >> once consumer investigator chris chmura picked up the phone he got immediate results. >> good morning. most people call us or send us an e-mail but gail harrell wrote me this letter and sent it in the u.s. mail. gail told me she booked a family trip on the reno fun train last tickets, but right before departuóv6ud the organizer canceled. now, gail expected a full refund, but that didn't happen. she said she called and she e-mailed for more than 11 months, with no success. that's when gail wrote me this letter. i contacted the organizer key holidays in walnut creek. a representative there called me back and told me that somehow gail's refund had fallen through the cracks and was incorrectly flagged as a gift certificate. key holida:jn then agreed to refund gail's $1,938 the next day.

right now at 6:30 we are in that microclimate weather alert this morning as freezing temperatures grip the bay area. on your left a live look from san bruno this morning where it's 37 degreesout side right now. on the right a look at the current temperatures across the bay area. that freeze warning will remain in effect for another two and a half hours. waiting for the sun's arrival but it's always coldest before that sun comes up. good morning, thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we want to go to meteorologist kari hall tracking these cold temperatures. pull out the coats, the gloves, the hats, you will need it all today. >> everything, yes. this is the coldest morning we have had since the beginning of last year. so it's been over a year since we've had temperatures dipping into the mid 20s and that's what it is right now in napa, 24 degrees. it is 28 in livermore and morgan hill, san jose at 36 and still frosty, make sure you allow time to scrape frost off of the

windshield. we have a hard freeze warning in effect for solano county, all the areas in purple inland are where we do have the freeze warning and a light blue shade indicates where you have frosty conditions as you get ready to head out. a look at our high temperatures today reaching into the low to mid 50s, we will be a little milder today and i'm tracking some rain so more on all of that coming up in a few minutes. mike gets you out the door with a few issues we have had. a motorcycle crash? the latest is a motorcycle crash. we've been tracking that on highway 4, it wasn't a big deal and then i saw sudden slowing. we will visit over here. westbound coming out of antioch and in towards pittsburg. we had a couple lanes blocked for a couple minutes. they may have cleared one more of those lanes. we have more slowing past concord and 680 recovering from an earlier crash at north main. another crash west 80 at cutting. the upper east shore freeway. continued build, we are 35 minutes now from highway 4 down

to the bay bridge with the backup of course that's back yesterday was clear, today not. back to you. >> thank you very much. we're following that breaking news out of the east bay this morning, an earthquake in the danville areaover night a day after two other small earthquakes were reported there. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live near the epicenter in monte vista high school in morning to explain why that fault line in that area typically creates smaller quakes. >> reporter: good morning, marcus and laura. it all comes back to the mt. diablo thrust fault. it's a little known fault. we always hear about the san andreas and hayward fault but what's causing some small earth cakes in this danville area. we will show you the area we saw the smaller earthquakes. they are relatively small earthquakes in this area in danville right between stone valley and diablo valley road. as far as the times when it happened it was a span between a few hours that first one at 1:30

registering at a 2.8, then between 4:25 to 4:26 we saw three more earthquakes between 2.6 to 2.9. back to this mt. diablo thrust fault, it's deep in the earth's crash, it pushes mt. diablo higher. the chances of this fault actually causing a big earthquake above 6.7, it would be a 3% chance so it's a very small percentage. we will continue to monitor things and provide updates throughout the morning on my social media accounts as they come in. live in danville, pete suratos for "today in the bay." there are new concerns as well in morning about money for an earthquake early warning system. the trump administration's budget proposal cuts $13 million to the usgs's earthquake hazards program, it would also cut staffing for that program, the funding cut would start on october 1st.

u.s. department of the interior says it's budget justification was proposed to address higher priorities. we're following breaking news out of walnut creek, that's where four people safely escaped an early morning fire that heavily damaged a home. you can see this video from within the last few minutes into our newsroom of firefighters when they first arrived to that scene. we're cold that that fire started in a carport at about 4:00 this morning. that home is located on spring brook road right here the 680/24 sler change. neighbors tell us the response caused commotion and in some cases fears that fire would spread. >> well, i just heard the emergency vehicles and then i saw someone at my back door and i got it and he said, you need to leave or does anybody else live here and i said, no i just have a dog and a cat, he said you probably should come outside in case you have to leave. >> firefighters say one person who escaped that fire did suffer

minor smoke inhalation. investigators are trying to figure out how the fire started. back to our microclimate weather alert this morning. wine growers across the bay area monitoring their grapes this morning as temperatures continue to plummet. it's cold out there. new this morning "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live in livermore with the impact that this freeze could have on some of the vines out there. you found out, bob, that it could be a good thing. >> reporter: yes, good morning. one wine maker out here in livermore tells us they are concerned that this season has been on track for an early bud break, that's when the buds break open and start to flower sooner than usual. which could spell a possible repeat of 2015 when vines like these bloomed too early, the rains came and in some instances washed away the pollen, which meant no grapes. this vineyard told us their vines only produce 50% of the normal load of fruit that year. that i remember wine maker hopes that this morning's freeze that i can feel right now, they hope

that this will slow down this year's possible early bud break. >> it's going to slow it down, it will delay t which is good because right now it's still too early. if we have stuff pushing too soon then we risk damage to the flowers when it rains because we usually get some rain in march. >> you're happy with this potential freeze? >> yeah, it's fine. hopefully this is the last one. we don't want those going into march, then, yes, we will have problems, but at this time of the year we're okay, but we're getting to the end where we would like -- you know, we want it to stop. >> reporter: there's also a risk this morning that any vines here in the livermore valley that have already begun to flower could suffer frost damage but that would just be a handful since most of the vines have yet to bloom. there is really nothing that wine makers would be able to do about it, they don't are watering systems in place because the freezes are so rare, but there you can see the frost

starting to form on the ground outside these vines and i can tell you right now just feeling -- [ no audio ] >> we lost his microphone there. i'm sure he was telling us how cold he is with the frost on the ground. all right. thank you very much, bob. a lot of people this week they are experiencing ski week. a lot of folks in the bay area always head up to tahoe. yeah, that is lake tahoe, believe it or not. the winds have been hitting the lake there, the speeds between 30 and 40 miles per hour this weekend. really tossing the waves up there. 6:37. this week marks one year since these devastating floodwaters really ravaged a lot of homes, sweeping those homes right here in san jose. take a look at all of this right here. this is when the coyote creek overflowed its banks after relentless rainfall. this year we're dealing with a different story, almost no rain at all across the bay area. right here you can see across

the state even. it looks like the latest drought monitor we are not in danger just yet but the state leaders are preparing. california's water board members today will debate making permanent a series of previously temporary restrictions. that boosts the water conservation even when there is no immediate drought threat. one rule would be -- would ban using hoses to wash down those sidewalks, another would require automatic shut off nozzles for the hoses when you wash cars. those new rules would take effect in april. at 6:38 on your tuesday morning we have a developing story in the south bay. scary moments for a san jose police officer. someone slammed into his patrol car and then they just drove off. this morning the search continues for the driver. police say the officer was looking for a stolen chevy silverado near tea tree and authorize ton way, that's when a white tahoe barrelled into the police patrol car. police believe the driver of

that tahoe is somehow connected with the stolen chevy the officer was looking for. the officer was not hurt. we're looking over here the rest of your commute moves well, looking at the south bay with a build now, that's kicked in over the last 20 minutes. a build for hayward for the nimitz, standard over there. a concern right here, we just heard about a crash just behind the shield south 101 just past that robin williams tunnel coming down in towards san francisco. we have two of your four lanes blocked. lanes over to the right side are open. watching for more slowing kicking in over the next probably 20 minutes. we will track that and a slow drive toward the bay bridge. the sensors show that slowing there as we come back to the desk a reminder that the mass transit [ inaudible ]. >> a lot of people have a four-day weekend which makes you think what's going on for the next weekend. >> right. especially when it's this cold out there, you are like i cannot deal with this, i am ready for my weekend right now. let's talk about how cold it is

because you do have to get through today. it has dropped down to 24 degrees now in napa, it's 28 in livermore and morgan hill, 27 this morning in santa rosa. let's talk about saturday now. it will still be chilly during those morning hours, but during the afternoon we're going to reach into the mid 50s. a lot of sunshine and that will be the key because on sunday more clouds will move in and we will still have those same temperatures up to about 60 degrees inland, it will be a chilly one. if it's going to be this cold you might as well be in the sierra, right? kirkwood is going to be only up to 20 degrees, yes, that's the high temperature on friday. still no snow for the weekend, but there will be a chance early next week. i will talk about that. also we'll bring you back to today's forecast coming up in three minutes. 6:40 right now. coming up next on "today in the bay," going green. what leaders in the south bay are doing later today to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. plus the president seems to be trying to rewrite history but we will correct him.

is the coldest time of the day. looking at san jose now normally we are up to 63 degrees for a high, but we do not make it there today, but we do have sunshine and there is some rain in the forecast. i will talk about that coming up in about five minutes. and a traffic alert for the north bay. southbound 101 we have two of your four lanes blocked just outside of the robin williams tunnel. the right lanes are open. i see the slowing stacking up right now. it is 6:44. today san jose city leaders will meet with the community to discuss what's next for the city's climate plan. just last week the city unveiled its new climate change agenda which includes becoming one of the first in the u.s. to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to meet the levels outlined in the ambitious paris agreement. they want the community's input on how to get it done. tonight's town hall is at 7:00 at city hall. president trump's border wall prototypes are already costing the city of san diego

thousands of dollars. l.a. times is reporting san diego spent $50,000 on supplies for the area where the prototypes are located. that's because the city was warned by the department of homeland security to expect major demonstrations which have never materialized. the sheriff's department actually spent more than $700,000 in overtime pay for border wall related work. the federal government is not expected to reimburse any of that money. president trump has tweeted a lot in the past 24 hours. >> scott mcgrew, you're trying to keep up. >> indeed i am. sometimes i have to check my phone. i will be honest with you, i like to cover what's going on in washington, each morning we sit in the newsroom, we type up a report on what's going on in washington and it often goes out the window when the president tweets, particularly when it's something inaccurate. he's tweeted a lot lately. this one was particularly noteworthy. obama was president up to and beyond the 2016 eye election so why didn't he do something about russian meddling.

lot clearer than it was this weekend. a lot of people got snowed in, in fact. we have fresh video to show you from kirkwood resort taken late yesterday. speeding it up here, a lot of folks managed to get up here for the long holiday weekend to enjoy the snow. ski week for a lot of folks in the bay area and tahoe is one of the favorite getaways of many. so they're hitting the slopes. it's really good news for the revenue up there for the small businesses, too. >> fastest gondolas around. we've been talking about the fact that we need so much snow there and there will be some snow in the forecast and it stays cold. it won't be one of those warm storms. so that's good news there. as we get a look at our storm ranger that's our mobile doppler radar, you can see the red beam scanning around the bay area and it could be tracking some rain as early as tomorrow for the peninsula. i will be talking about that. right now let's get to these temperatures because it is so cold this morning. freezing in the tri-valley, 28

degrees and 27 now in the north bay. even in san francisco, 39 degrees there, the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen, shows that chance of rain for tomorrow and thursday as well. spotty showers. as we go through today it's going to be all clear, sunshine, highs in the low to mid 50s, getting dress this had morning, boy, is that very important because you do need lots of layers. you need to start out with a sweater or a hat and also a good idea to make sure you have some gloves, something to keep your hands warm, especially if you will be outside for quite a while. good idea to have the pants as well. maybe some extra layers as you start out this morning. then as we look at the forecast we will be tracking some spotty rain tomorrow, we will have several disturbances moving in and this shows that we do have a change in the pattern that's kept us so warm and dry. we will start to see some spotty rain moving into the santa cruz mountains late tonight and early tomorrow morning. we could see some of that rain passing through parts of the bay

area, but everyone ma i not see it and you will want to make sure you keep checking in for updates. it's also going to be windy and cold, our highs reaching into the mid 50s, morning temperatures in the 30s. as we go into the weekend more of the same although we will wipe out the rain chances and have a more significant storm system moving in on monday. mike, you're tracking a crash heading into san francisco. i am. this is highway 101 coming down through sues leto, marin county north of the golden gate bridge. looks fine but you see the accident icon, that's what hides the slower sensor reads right here. coming down through the robin williams tunnel is a problem right now, there is a crash outside of it on the south side as you're coming down toward the golden gate bridge blocking two of your four lanes and chp still not there. been about 15, 20 minutes since that crash happened. we have the build. some folks will want to head over to the richmond-san rafael bridge but then they're getting stuck in berkeley and the berkeley curve traffic in the east bay. the rest of the bay shows more traffic than yesterday but not an unusual pattern.

we have seen low level snow in week as well as hail. we've posted a full list of the warming centers that are now open this week. you can find it on nbcbayarea.com. i will make a note to try to tweet that out as well. a live look from livermore this morning where we're getting an idea of just how those freezing temperatures could impact the wine harvest. the wine growers are monitoring their grapes, but say that the cold temperatures could actually be a good thing. "today in the bay" spoke with one wine maker who says that part of the valley they have been on track for early bud break. that happened back in 2015. the vines bloomed too early and then it rained which washed away the pollen and stopped grapes from growing. the wine maker says that the cold weather could slow down the bud break. >> the mobile app is a great tool to use during those temperatures. you can track the current temperatures and you will get to push the notifications. he will get those when severe weather is in your location.

a live look at danville where a new series of small earthquakes shaking things up this morning. usgs says there were four earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.6 and 3.0 over a three-hour period. all were centered around monte vista high school. one quake happened at 10:00, the other three within a one-minute span at 4:25. this is close to where two small quakes struck a half mile away in the last week. we continue to monitor breaking news out of the east bay this morning. firefighters in walnut creek are investigating an early morning fire. we do know that one person was treated for smoke inhalation. it started just before 4:00 this morning on a home on spring brook road. this is near 680/24 sler change. back to our coverage of the 2018 olympic ims with a. two athletes with ties from northern california tweeted and tonight karen chen makes her olympic debut.
