removed from school after he was planning to harm specific classmates. he attended bay view elementary school. police say the student began to act out in class and the teacher decided to evacuate the other students. the student barricaded himself inside the classroom. he was safely removed and the family of the student is cooperating with investigators. it's an uneasy milestone. exactly one year ago today thousands of san jose residents were flooded out of their homes wading through waste high water and rescued by boats. you see the footage here. this is after the coyote creek flooded. this is the rock spring neighborhood. san josey vently accused the water district of providing inaccurate information about the rising water. the agency said they want to look for solutions. the most obvious change, a vinyl aluminum wall that extend three feet above the creek bed. >> this is basically just keeping water within the creek

chance, not a big storm system, but it will help to increase the wind. the best chance around 9:30 here in the north bay. then eventually, a little scattered activity moving into san francisco and the east bay. again, the big change tomorrow will be that rain chance returning and increasing wind. but we're also tracking a few more disturbances on the way. we'll play it out in the seven-day forecast in 15 minutes. >> jeff, see you shortly. yesterday, we talked about the local vineyards, how the weather is impacting the grapes and also our backyard fruit trees. nbc bay area's marianne favro has a closer look. >> our recent chilly temperatures can have a negative impact on trees like this one. it's not just citrus trees vulnerable. our upcoming rains may also have an impact on other types of trees. hoping your avocado tree will provide you with lots of guacamole this summer?

with many trees blooming early after a streak of warm weather and rains on the way, you may be a few avocados short. >> when you get the rains and they're flowering and washing the pollen off, you may not get as much fruit as you normally would. >> record temperatures are hurting some citrus trees also. >> when you have multiple days where it's cold for several days, then you'll start to get it back in the tree and damage to the weeds and the fruit also will start to split. the yellow is a clairosis. >> certified arborist says you cover vulnerable trees are plastic to protect them from freezing temperatures. tomorrow keys says his grapefruit tree is too big to cover. he's not expecting the best fruit this season. >> the problem with the frost, it will turn the insides to mush. then they're no good. >> but experts say, with the right protection, you can still have enough lemons to make

lemonade. >> reporter: arborist said if you are expecting freezing temperatures overnight, it's very important that you get in there and water your citrus trees because dry soil freezes much faster than moist soil. reporting live in los gatos, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. a developing story out of yosemite. there's a missing hiker from oakland. they tweeted out photos of this man, he was last seen saturday at the entrance to the area. he is an experienced hiker, but may have gotten injured or overcome by the chilly temperatures. crews on the ground and in the air are taking part in the search for him. going high tech to solve a crime that's getting out of hand. all those car break-ins in san francisco. today, district attorney george gascon addressed the issue saying the city is launching a new tip line. people can call or e-mail the crime unit with any tips that

apple promised to replace batteries on older phones for a cheap price. it's taking longer than expected. >> scott budman joins us with the latest. scott, what's happening here? >> reporter: well, raj, some users are telling us after they get to the store, it's taking longer than expected to get their batteries replaced. they're frustrated and worried because the alternative, buying a new phone is much more expensive. >> apple stores are fast moving places but some iphone owners say the company is moving too slowly when it comes to replacing batteries. >> i got an iphone 7. >> it was an hour. >> apple, you may remember, offered to replace iphone batteries for $29 each after admitting it was slowing older iphones down to improve performance. >> i barely use my phone and it's at 69%. it's only 11:00. >> a random sampling shows some

a female firefighter says she was tormented at the fire station for months in china town. she said someone urinated near her bed and put feces in her bed. they allege the firefighter who complained was given special treatment because she had an affair with the chief. hall of fame baseball player, orlando is he paid a, he remains in a hospital. as we reported on monday night, the 80-year-old sped a was rushed to a hospital after collapsing in a parking lot of a fairfield golf course where he lives. the giants releasing a statement saying he suffered a cardiac incident and remains in critical condition. the statement adds, that his family is asking for privacy during this time. known as the baby bull, he won the 1958 rookie of the year at 20 years old. that was also the first year that the giants played in san

francisco. >> we wish him the best. a skyline nearly 130 years in the making. a california real estate company recently put together a 3d animation showing how much downtown san francisco has changed since 1890. commercial cafe's animation starts with the first sky sclaper shall the chronicle building and then you can see the historical buildings pop up. like the call building which no longer exists and the pacific telephone building and things pick up in the 1960s and '70s including the transamerica pyramid. it ends with the latest skyscraper, the sales force tower. commercial cafe broke down construction by decades. all the buildings in yellow in this area, were built before 1960. from there, they're color-coded by decade. the dark blue buildings like in this area are the ones built after the year 2000. raj? pretty cool to see. back to pyeongchang now. the last few days will be exciting. for a local bobsledding couple,

the winter olympics are a family affair. garvin thomas joins us now from south korea. >> reporter: hello again from pyeongchang, south korea. we're at the sliding center which saw a thrilling finish to the two man women bobsled. elana meyers taylor getting a silver medal. her third. she's married to nick taylor from hayward. not only is he her husband, he's an alternate on the men's bobsled team. we asked him what it is like to be both an athlete and a spouse at the winter games? >> it's been unique. so last night we were standing -- the blades at the bottom of your sled until 4:00 a.m. and had to get up 7:00 a.m. for my training. it's been unique but getting it done. >> you having fun? >> so much fun. >> are you having fun? >> oh, my gosh. time of my life. >> bobsled is not finished at these games and there are so

notice the temperatures will be dropping down to the 40s once we hit 8:00. another cold night on tap. in the south bay, i don't think we'll dip below the freezing mark. that's some of the good news. as we get you into the radar picture, showers approaching santa cruz. we think this moderate activity would continue to the south impacting near the beaches heading through 3:39 for tonight. i want to take us into our forecast 4ediheading into tomor. sunshine and clouds mixed in. it will be a cool start. you still need the jacket. the early chill in the t tri-valley at 38. we'll be watching for showers to move close by here to san francisco and also the north bay. it's another disturbance in the atmosphere that, again, could fire off activity as we head throughout your thursday. so let's go ahead and get you the timeline on this. by 9:30 in the morning, we'll see showers approaching santa

rosa. point reyes. also close to san francisco. it's likely around 1:00 in the afternoon, we see the showers move quickly to the south bay with maybe even low snow for mt. ma'am i will ton. it's a scattered rainfall situation for thursday's forecast. keep the umbrella handy and the light jacket. we'll dry out once we hit 7:30 at night. the microclimate forecast throughout tomorrow. temperatures really not going to budge a lot. this will put us at 56 in san jose. also notice the winds as we head through your microclimate. it's going to be gusty. these are sustained winds west at 20. we could see gusts maybe up to 30 miles per hour. winds will be around 17 miles per hour here in the east bay with mid to upper 50s. right near the peninsula, 52 in san mateo. 55 in palo alto. san francisco, 51 in the outer sunset and 50 for the embarcadero. throughout the north bay, plenty of mid-50s through tomorrow's forecast. on my extended, we'll see things dry out. as you can see on friday and saturday, hold on.
