nbc bay area news. we have more details on the historic flood, the estimated cost of flood repairs stands at $100 million. 35 500 homes or apartments were damaged. 7,500 tons of debris were removed. that's about 75% of the weight of the eiffel tower. b.a.r.t. is releasing body camera video one day after we were the first to show you a shorter clip of that video. we want to warn you what you're about to see is graphic. >> what happened? >> a shooting. >> where? where? where? where? >> you can see the officer running after reports of shots fired. he sees two men wrestling on the ground. the officer commands the men to show their hands several times before firing. and that's where we froze the video. when the officer shoots, a gun falls to the ground between the

two men. it is unclear who had the weapon in their hand. tindall is seen putting his hands in the air after being shot. there will be a news conference to address the video and shooting. a bay area catholic school is making changes how it handles reports of sex abuse. this comes after our exclusive reporting exposing years of allegations as san jose's presentation high school. some of the alleged victims of the abuse say the school is simply missing the mark, the all-girls catholic school says it's creating a committee to make recommendations for how to prevent sexual misconduct against students. presentation will also create an office for the prevention of student bullying, harassment, and abuse. both groups will be overseen by the board of directors. that's the problem, though, according to the women who have accused the school's leadership of failing to report allegations of sex abuse to police. they say the same people who tried to cover up the abuse are still in charge.

>> until you acknowledge there is a problem, you can't put in place processes or procedures to fix it. they have yet to acknowledge any wrongdoing, and they need to do that. >> this is something that was done because there's been some criticism, and we want to address those criticisms. >> they say they've tallied 24 former students who raised allegations since last fall that their reports of sexual abuse were mishandled by presentation. a national call to action to reform our gun laws in the wake of last week's shooting massacre in florida. a sea of students from the bay area to the nation's capital poured into the streets today demanding changes that includes students from alameda high school and they marched to city hall. congresswoman nancy pelosi back home for a town hall on taxes talked about the impact this might have on the gun debate. >> these kids are doing a

for them in olympics history. a lot of smiles there. and the u.s. women's hockey team will bring home a medal tonight. the question right now will it be gold or silver? this is a clash of the titans. usa against canada. the gold medal game tonight right here on nbc bay area at 8:15. two other high-profile americans, mikaela shiffrin on lindsey vonn compete in the albin combined event which starts at 6:30. you can also check out our top three to watch. it's a section right on our website nbcbayarea.com. we update it daily with the top three must-see events. the san francisco giants are asking for your prayers for one of its legends, hall of famer orlando cepeda, he remains in a bay area hospital in critical condition. as we reported monday night the 80-year-old was rushed to a hospital in fairfield where he lives. the giants released a statement saying cepeda suffered a cardiac incident and remains in critical

condition. his family asks for privacy during this time. known as the baby bull, cepeda won the 1958 rookie of the year when he was just 20 years old. that was also first year the giants played in san francisco. an east bay man is recovering from a gunshot wound after meeting two people he thought wanted to buy his car. that meeting turned into a carjacking, a shooting, and a wild police chase much caught on camera. jodi hernandez got hold of the surveillance video, joins us live showing us the scary moments. jodi? >> reporter: janel, witnesses tell us it was terrifying. the car owner and a police officer were injured during that carjacking and chase. tonight the two suspects remain on the loose. you're looking at surveillance video of a carjacking going sideways in east oakland. >> it's scary. it was very, very scary. >> reporter: police say it all started when the owner of a porsche suv met with two

prospective car buyers for a test drive. police say instead of a test drive they shot the car owner in the elbow, then took off, sparking a police chase into a dead end street. >> i saw an suv just shoot out this way. >> reporter: witnesses say the suv made a quick u-turn and crashed into the police car that was in pursuit. >> basically the side of the door was smashed, and the window was shattered all over. >> reporter: then the stolen car smashed into a van, flipping it over. police surrounded the suv with guns drawn, but the carjackers had already bailed out taking off on foot. >> i hope had he catch them, yeah. really scared. >> reporter: now both the car owner and the police officer are recovering and are expected to be okay. the driver of the van that was hit walked away from the scene.

reporting live in oakland, i'm jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >> jodi, thank you. enough is enough. today san francisco's district attorney took action on a crime that's getting out of hand. car break-ins. more than 80 a day on average in san francisco alone. george gascon announcing the tip line. he says auto burglary in san francisco is usually done by organized crime. >> we want you to report any activity that you see. we want you to, if you have photographs, if you have descriptions of people that you can give us that information so that we can share it with the police. this is not a replacement for a police report. >> locals, tourists, everyone gets hit. they're seeking $1 million in funding to create an auto burglary task force. our investigative reporter has been taking a deeper look into this problem.
